Published at:  Jul 01, 2008 12:40:34 AM CDT

I am – Hercules

Tim Roth (“Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” “The Incredible Hulk”) is going to star on a Fox TV show.

The netlet ordered 13 episodes. Tuesday morning’s Variety describes the project:

Roth will play Dr. Cal Lightman, a scientist who pioneered the field of deception detection. The doc is a human lie detector, skilled at reading the human face, body and voice to uncover the truth in criminal and private investigations. The fact that the character can apply the same skills to his personal life complicates his relationships. The science in the show is genuine, based on the work of Dr. Paul Ekman.

Cool enough to check an episode or two out.

Besides I love Tim Roth, and wish he had more work. He earned that as Mr. Orange.

13 eps of Roth staring intently, then saying "you're lying"?

    by newc0253

Maybe he could do variations, to keep it interesting:
"you're not telling me the whole story!"
    "you're fabricating!"
    "you're dissembling!"
    "you're telling porky pies!"
    "you're being untruthful!"
    etc.,

    DECEIVER in reverse?

    by futureboymaddog

Anyone remember that film with Roth, Zellweger, Rooker, Arquette and Penn where he played the guy who beat the lie detector? Wonder if he'll question himself? I actually really liked that film.

Basically, he's going to be playing Christopher Walken in TRUE ROMANCE?

    Such a waste of talent

    by ev1ldead

Why can't he go to HBO, Showtime, F/X or AMC? Why this shitty network Crime procedural/House Rip-Off? Are they paying so much more? This is the same shit like James Woods in Shark or James Caan in Las Vegas.

    Hmmmm.

    by fiester

Now I've always seen Roth as a big screen actor. If he wanted to commit to a series I wish he'd found something more interesting on a network that would support the show, such as FX or even that much maligned (and deserving of the criticism) HBO. Fox will probably cancel it after three shows for "World's Biggest Ass" reality show.

    Does anyone remember "Angela's Eyes"?

    by cypher

Seems to be pretty much exactly the same premise from only a couple of years ago. Failed then, can't say this will wow me either.

    Promise 13.... Air 3

    by chromedome

and switch out the timeslot to Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire....On the other hand, is this a sea-change for Fox? Seems like they are giving a LOT of actual scripted drama's a chance this fall. Is there new management there, does anyone know?

On Fox? Canceled in 1 season.

    by zerocorpse

Seriously. When has Fox ever been decent to a non-reality, non-sitcom, non-soap series? They'll air it in the wrong order, shuffle it around, pre-empt it for sports, and claim it gets low ratings, then they'll yank it.
