Park: New GALACTICA TV-Movie Is Slated To Shoot This August!!

Published at:  Jun 29, 2008 5:19:33 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

“I just heard about the first Battlestar movie being greenlit,” Grace Park tells the Los Angeles Times in a story dated June 28. “It's supposed to start in August.”

The August start assumes that the Screen Actors Guild is not on strike at the time. The guild’s contract with the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers expires Monday.

The movie is widely expected to be, like last year’s “Razor” TV-movie, set before the events of next year’s “Battlestar Galactica” series finale. Many expect the movie could air on SciFi this autumn, before the next year's final 11 hours of the regular series.

As many as three new “Galactica” movies have reportedly been discussed.

Principal photography on the series finale, hitting the SciFi Channel next year, was expected to be completed before the SAG contract expires.

“There's one episode where everything is explained and I had to read it three times,” Park told the Times. “I had to sit down with [executive producer] Ron Moore and he had to break it down.”

Park apparently let the news slip while promoting her role in another cable series, “The Cleaner,” which premieres July 15.

I had my doubts with 'Razor' at first, but that turned out to be a superb example of all that is right with the series. I think that BSG is probably the pinnacle of sci fi as a series. Mainly this is due to the writing, which just gets better and better with every season. Usually i'd be warey of such announcements, but with Battlestar, i know we are in safe hands. Bring it on.
P.S. Lets hope we get to see more of young Husker kicking some Cylon ass eh!!

Anyone heard when Season 4 is coming out on DVD? Are they going to split it in half like they did Season 2? I hope they don't make us wait until the end of 2009 or 2010. I need my Galactica now dammit!

    by tomhooligan

I think they should do a tv movie where they are all warped to a parrallel dimension where all the clothes, equipment and hairstyles are changed to the styles from the 70's series. The main plot point would be Starbuck coming to terms with her new found male genetalia.

    by performingmonkey

Jesus Christ just think what they have to answer! Personally I'd love a headfuck ending rather than every single thing explained. What I want to see more than anything is one final fuckass battle between the colonials and the Cylons, complete with the cool Starbuck dogfights like what we used to get on the show in the first two seasons. I want to see people go down in a blaze of glory. I want to see Husker actually getting action in the cockpit, like what I THOUGHT was going to happen only instead he read a book for two episodes while he waited for Roslin! I want the 12 models to be the 12 humans that left Earth hundreds of years before and who founded the colonies. Skinjob versions of them were created so they would never die.

    Just No Sopranos Ending, Please

    by nohubris

Since RDM has given the fans a continuing story from the miniseries through 4 seasons, with a beginning and a middle, we have to have a very un-Sopranos like ending (i.e. an ending that will tie up loose ends with clarity and make sense of the whole story).

I like Chromedome's idea from a prior TB with respect to a movie about the Cylon home world. For what it's worth, I'd also like to see:-4,000 years ago story of the 13th Tribe's journey to Earth and Kobol prior to the 12 colonies.-Starbuck's visit to Earth before her return-A story about the man/woman behind the curtain controlling the In-Heads-The Cylon civil war-Some cool space battles-More on who the Final Five really are

    Explaining the Script

    by _maltheus_

That's not a good sign. The last time RDM had to explain his ideas to people we ended up with Tigh humming All Along the Watchtower because of the mystical connection between all life that causes different cultures to come up with that song independently of each other. No shit, that was how he explained it to the guy who did the score. And that's when I knew RDM totally lost it. It's ok, I still love him for DS9 (despite the cheesy trekishness of it).
Razor was ok though. It was certainly better than anything in S4 and most of S3. It was disposable, but watchable. I might look forward more to the movies than S5.

    If that's the in-show explanation

    by bellwether

for All Along the Watchtower I'm going to be sorely disappointed. I've been assuming it's because it's set far in our future and they (or at least the final five) are the descendants of an earlier cycle of human-cylon hybrids, so they've got some sort of genetic memory of previous events. Mystical connection between all life? Godammit... *wanders off muttering*

Quote on All Along the Watchtower

    by _maltheus_

This is the exact quote from the blog of BSG's music composer Bear McCreary:
"I happened to catch Ron Moore in the hallway at Universal and, in a brief conversation, got everything I needed to know. I learned that the idea was not that Bob Dylan necessarily exists in the characters’ universe, but that an artist on one of the colonies may have recorded a song with the exact same melody and lyrics. Perhaps this unknown performer and Dylan pulled inspiration from a common, ethereal source. Therefore, I was told to make no musical references to any “Earthly” versions, Hendrix, Dylan or any others. The arrangement needed to sound like a pop song that belonged in the Galactica universe, not our own."

    by shran

A little perspective. Do you really think RDM would be telling Bear McCreary crucial plot points about a storyline or that he just wanted Bear to score something that didn't sound like Hendrix or Dylan? Seeing how Bear apparently keeps a secret like most people's 10 year old sister.

And Lance4431, I wish Grace Park had done 6. That would have been better than Playboy.

I read somewhere that in addition to Stolz being cast as Old Man Adama, they also cast his daughter.
