Published at:  Jun 29, 2008 2:04:43 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Every episode of “The Venture Bros.’” third season seems to pack a reveal or two regarding a major character; this week we learn a little something about Brock Samson.

Also? Dean goes postal in front of Triana Orpheus.

Watch all of this week’s episode here (except maybe the third reel, which keeps freezing up and denying me two minutes and 41 seconds of fun) or wait until 11:30 p.m. and watch it on The Cartoon Network.

I loved the Orpheus Triad team

    by napoleon park

with cheesy orange t-shirts over the tops of their costumes. And the continuing weirdness of Jonny Quest and the return of "Doctor Z." "Can I drop scorpions on him?"And Hank's line about Don - "He's never seen another teenage boy." And the Monarch's continuing obsession with Venture. And Doctor Monarch's Wife's new costume. And the fact that I can watch this on line, since I only have basic cable. And the mother hidden in shadows - I actually can't wait to find out if she's somebody we've seen or just someone he met.And the fact that unlike most large ensemble live action shows, this has a huge cast and none of the characters look alike or are hard to tell apart - every single character is clearly defined and quite distinctive.

Everybody's assuming that the kid is Brock's

by shut the fuck up donny

but I would NOT hold it past the guys to make this another red herring--remember, Sheila's reveal in this season's opener is nothing at all what you thought it might be from Season 2's cliffhanger. I would find it interesting if the kid turned out to be another of Rusty's (which would really throw a loop into Hank and Dean's already perplexing life), Billy Quizboy (just because he's been supposedly established as a virgin) or The Alchemist (for obvious reasons). But even IF the Kid turns out to be Brock's I can't complain. I just love the ever expanding scope of this season.

Further reason why I think it may not be Brock

by shut the fuck up donny

is because this reveal was done with an episode where almost every major character (including Peter White at the end) was in proximity with each other and Dermot. It just screams "A-HA, you think it's Brock, but remember so-and-so was there too...." It's a perfect vehicle for ambiguity.

Maybe the kid is Shiela's somehow...

    by danielkurland

Maybe that could even have been her reveal to the Monarch. I doubt this is the case, but it's possible maybe. Good observation about many characters being in proximity at the end. I only think it's Brock just because the chemistry between Dermot and Brock was so, so good.

When Dean jumped on whatsis name? (Dermot?) Dean is Peter Parker (pre-powers) and probably the avatar for 80 % of AICN readers at 16. Love seeing him get some licks in even if its not so realistic. This show is like funnel cake and free beer at a big outdoor concert where Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Tom Waits, and Bill Hicks are all playing on the same bill.

    by lingerdog

I'm thinking that the line from Venture to Brock "Just wait until you have kids of your own" I didn't catch it when I watched it online, but it kind of jumped out at me just now, kind of a foreshadowing.

    by necgray

It's the two dots over an "O" that you sometimes see in European words. I'm sure someone with a better understanding of language could further inform you. The reason it's a joke is because in order to type an umlat, you have to hit a key combination on most keyboards.

    Episode out of order? (Triana)

    by necgray

I know that Publick said that the shows are usually aired out of order, so I'm thinking this one definitely is. Only because Triana seemed awfully girlfriend-y with Dean and I don't recall her ever committing to that stance. She seemed to be ramping up to it in the second season, but I didn't think she was quite there yet. Which bothers me, but makes me VERY hopeful that we'll see a "Dean gets the girl" episode...

    by necgray

I'm pretty sure he's Brock's kid, but what I would love to see, in a "holy crap that's impossible but hilarious" way, is for the kid to be Hank's. Don't ask how that would happen because I don't know, but I'm sure the hilarity would ensue.

"Just wait until you have kids of your own"...

    by danielkurland

I HATE when shows know they're going to do a kid storyline so they have some awkward line earlier in the episode that's supposed to be foreshadowing, whereas it was probably added to the script once it was finished. This works a lot better when it's said an episode or two beforehand, and that's typically the route Venture Bros. takes.

is becoming my favorite new character this season. Seeing him surrounded by the kids was hilarious.Notice the Adult Swim bump asking for best cartoon voice over actor? Saw Mel Blanc, Mark Hamill, James Urbaniak...I'd add Billy West and special mention to Patrick Warburton. Oh, and Phil Hartman's work on The Simpsons, esp. the monorail episode.

    Its not Leslie Cohen

    by gearfree

Remember the facts: Rusty had the kids around the age of 24(after both he and Brock left college for their reasons). Its been 19 years since the boys were originally born, so anyone before Myra is not likely the mother. My bet is Brock likely being his dad(the segment where Brock argued with him along with other character traits leads this theory). We might also meet Sheilas father this season.

The lack of interest in this talkback

by shut the fuck up donny

only saddens me more, considering Adult Swim showed that last week's VB only got 800k viewers while a re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-rerun of Family Guy got 1.3 million. Mind you, that doesn't include a lot of people who watched it on the Fix Friday night (which I believe they're keeping track of also), but it still angers me how many people are STILL not looking into this show. And yes, Wyvern, this has been the best episode of the season so far. Doc and Jackson's writing talents are clear with their deft ability to handle such a large ensemble of characters in one scenario.

sounds like you are already committed, and I salute you for it. But to further encourage ou, the guys have been establishing a fairly thorough mythos throughout the first two seasons--some of which seems to be accumulating to something big this season. In order to appreciate this show on a larger scale, you need to see the first two seasons. The real upside is that there's not a LOT or episodes to get bogged down in, and they move pretty quickly. You could probably catch up on the show in one weekend--and what a weekend it would be! However you don't have to be an episode nazi to appreciate the show.
