THIS ARTICLE in USA Today says that Robert Rodriguez is putting together a RED SONJA project, with Rose McGowan as Sonja.
Douglas Aarniokoski, whose worked with Rodriguez for a long, long time (often as assistant director) would direct the film.
Rodriguez & McGowan also have a budgetarily challenged BARBARELLA remake in the pipeline.
Back in 1985, Brigitte Nielsen appeared as this character alongside Schwarzenegger's "Lord Kalidor". It looked like this:
"Only one man on Earth is man enough to win her!" Awesome.
Ironically, that trailer used CLASH OF THE TITANS music, another revisitation we reported on TODAY.

Is hot but she can't act. Any credibility she had went away with her stint on "Charmed". I'm sure other actresses are better suited to pull off this kind of a role. Rose can't carry a movie, and she most definitely can't pull off action. This movie = FAIL before it's even made.

I don't believe the makers of the original Red Sonja were able to obtain the rights to the character of Conan from Robert E. Howard's estate, so they just changed the character's name to Kalidor(which sounds like the name of some bargain basement discount store in downtown Manhattan).
Also, I found this interesting tidbit on Imdb: " It is commonly believed that Robert E. Howard created the character of Red Sonja in one of his Conan short stories. In reality, he created a character with a similar name (Red Sonya) that appeared in a minor role in a non-fantasy work of historical fiction. "Red Sonja", the character popularized by the 1985 movie, actually first appeared in a Conan comic book written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Barry Windsor-Smith".

He seems to be picking projects based on what will boot McGowen's career into full gear. Personally, I don't think the woman has what it takes to carry a movie. But she must be awesome in bed for Rodriguez to be picking all these movies for her to star in.

She had to have plastic surgery because of an accident but on Charmed, she glowed in every silly, contrived scene she was in. I love her.

The character in the books and comics isn't especially tall or muscled , that's why casting Bridgette was such a fuck up in the original film.Sonja is meant to look more like a ginger vampirella in a chrome/gold chain bikini.Bridgette with her manly body and ginger crewcut, just about went as wrong as it could go{Her hair wasn't even orange/red it was more like *conker* coloured!!!!???} Rose can't act , but she's obviously game for any crazy shit Rodrigez thinks up...so I look foreward to this ...sort of.

First of all, I doubt they will remake the existing movie. Red Sonya of Rogatino is a character from the pulp stories and novels of Robert E. Howard (who also wrote the original CONAN stories) and the film is... losely based on those to say the least. Secondly, why fucking bother remaking a movie you can't motherfucking improve upon? Remakes of acclaimed masterpieces are bound to fail. However, if a director or writer sees potential in a flawed film there is a chance of doing it better the second time around.

If you date or marry an actress, she will usually expect to be cast in your films. It's either that or the director wants to work with his girl to the point of hurting his career and credibility. Look at Renny Harlin and Geena Davis. Depalma and Nancy Allen. Allen not getting the female lead in Scarface,if not the cause, was the last straw for thier union. There are many other examples out there.

She's hot, and she can act, I never watched Charmed, but it was just for the paycheck. I remember reading an interview with her, and she said she was going to try and get on a TV show, so that she could have a steady stream of syndication money coming in, then she could focus on roles she wanted, and not have to worry about the money. It was purely a business decision, I'm sure her indifference to the material showed, now she can do whatever she wants, good for her.

This is the jerk who attended Spike's (phony) Scream Awards and loudly declared, "This is better than the Oscars." Yeah, a ceremony that awards a trophy to "best eye gouging scene". See that sinking ship? It's been identified as "Rodriguez' Dignity". I've seen McGowan on AMC (Her usual refrain is "I could watch that movie a thousand times"). RED SONIA would be perfect for Rosie; no acting required and Rodriguez could weasel a Scream Award for the debacle. All of the major studios have passed on her qualification for BARBARELLA; simple logic--she's never been cast in a profitable movie.
