Jeff Goldblum To Replace Noth On CRIMINAL INTENT!!
I am – Hercules!!
The great Jeff Goldblum, fresh from the failed NBC crime drama “Raines,” will replace Chris Noth on USA/NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” Goldblum will star in half the episodes; Vincent D’Onofrio will continue to handle the other half.
Last year’s “Raines” was Goldblum’s first starring role on a TV series since 1980’s “Tenspeed and Brown Shoe.”
His big-screen credits include “Annie Hall,” “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” “The Big Chill,” “The Right Stuff,” “Buckaroo Banzai,” “Silverado,” “The Fly,” “Jurassic Park,” “Independence Day,” “The Lost World” and “The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.”

and first...?

He's too good for this. Why can't a great actor with such a distinctive style get a good feature? Or did I just answer that question?
-
Goldblum is an interesting choice, to say the least. It'll be interesting to see how he plays it.
-
I can't imagine Goldblum playing it razor-straight, so he'll have to work against comparisons with D'onofrio. Noth never belonged on CI - he should have become the "old cop" on Law & Order Classic Flavor after Farina left.
-
I like Noth in this role, but it could work. Even better is that a friend of mine is appearing in an episode of this in a few weeks. That will be great.
-
But after not watching L&O:CI for all these seasons, I doubt I'll be able to follow the storyline.

Goldblum needs one of those things, whatsit called? Um, you know
by wickedjacob
an agent.
-
I think he would work well - he's got that same nerdy too-smart quirkiness that D'Onofrio brings to the show.
-
A friend of mine writes for the show, I'm going to badger her until I get his autograph.
-
Is Criminal Intent still only on USA?
-
I preferred the D'Onofrio episodes, but I also liked that the Noth episodes had a different approach. Goldblum's character needs to not be a Goren clone. Maybe he can talk to hallucinations of the murder victims during the investigation? :)
-
The only question is which one's the quirky one?
-
I like Noth as Logan, but I generally like the Donofrio and partner episode better. Are there different writing staffs or something? Honestly, it's Donofrio's show, so bringing in a bigger star is a weird choice.
-
I really like both actors, but both have the propensity for over the top performances. That is what turned me off to L&O:CI in the first place. D'Onoffro basically is this super dective that everyone just sits around in awe of his brilliance and the fact he knows everything about everything. We don't need another character like that on this show. I would watch the Chris Noth episodes and skip the others. Now I may just skip the whole thing.
-
I always thought he'd have made a better Burton Batman than Keaton. Back then. And Peter O'Toole coulda been the Joker.
-
Well done, sir!
-
"Faster, must solve faster!" ?
-
can play the grim reaper, no makeup requierd.
-
"GODDAMN RICH CUNTS! I KILL RICH CUNTS!"
-
Anyone know?? I wonder if he didn't like the $$? Someone has to know, speak up??
-
Built solely around Goldblum's talent, but I found it surprisingly worthwhile and was sad it didn't make it.

Noth quit because he wouldn't agree to a price freeze...
by sledge hammer
...on his salary for this season, despite the fact that the show only barely managed to even get a new season, thanks to the first airing on cable deal they made. Apparently Noth believes that the success of the wretched Sex & The City movie means that he's hot shit right now, and as such deserved a hefty increase in his already substantial salary for the show, despite the cut backs the show had to make just to come back at all. And again, remember, they didn't cut his salary, they just couldn't increase it any so he walked in a David Caruso "it's my turn!" type huff. Nobody much cared though, and they up and hired the great Jeff Goldblum in his place instead, for the same salary that Noth would have got, not only replacing Noth with a far more talented and more popular actor, but also making him look like the absolute tool he is into the bargain.
-
It's one of the most underrated shows of the last years. Too bad that it didn't catch on, but what do you expect from viewers who think that Battlestar Galactica is smart Television?

so when is Goldbloom, Weller and compant gonna make Buckaroo 2
by groothewarrior
they said the sequal was gonna be world crime conspiracy in mid 80s
-
I mean this is a movie fan's site. Was it just to pad out the shortness of the story?
-
Because someone leaves the show every season it seems. Hell, she should just have her own show.
-
This guy pisses me off, because I have a lot of love for Logan, but every time I see Noth out of character he seems to go out of his way to be more and more of a dick. He's shot himself in the foot this time, though. Goldblum is one of my favourite people to watch on screen, and could be a draw for new viewers. And, hell, if he turns out to be too much like Goren then drop Goren. The new direction of the show has turned him into a pussy, although I haven't seen the latest eps, didn't know it was even back on (torrent time). Have they managed to salvage the character? Is it even possible?
-
I've got some serious criminal intent where she's concerned. Wish they'd stop threatening to bring back that freaky schoolboy creature she replaced.
-
She was just filling in while Julianne Nicholson was on maternity leave. However, this casting change might shake things up.
-
rapist
-
I love Noth but Goldblum is classic. I usually only watched the D'Onofrio half of the show anyway. Now I'll watch every week. Kudos to USA
-
Is there any other kind? Plus his hat in that movie was dominant you can't deny that.
-
also they are chubby.
Goldblum seems to be given a huge pass by the typically cynical TB nation here at AICN, and for what reason, I cannot fathom. He is the quintessential "one character" actor who portrays that one character every time he is on screen.
I bet the show will be peppered with his 'buckshot staccato' dialogue style. Like in 4 of July where he stammers his way through the whole movie with choice gems like "yesyes big boom gotta go - go now yes yes faster - faster is good yesyes" -
I always thought they brought Noth in as a replacement for Vincent D.
But he never seemed to click.
Now Goldblum is closer to Vincent D.'s style of intelligent detective.
If he proves popular Vincent D could leave the show in a year or two. -
But the DAMNED AD kept falling all over what I was trying to read-- FUCK YOU
-
Actually, what's even more welcome to me is the fact that Warren Leight is leaving the show. The program took a stylistic turn when Rene Balcer left and Leight took over, and it was not for the better. They added pop songs ala CSI. The mysteries themselves seemed weaker. The whole Goren's mom and his nervous breakdown thing was all Leight stuff, and I thought it was really weak. I watch that show to see some mysteries, to see Goren know everything, and to hear Eames make wise-cracks while he's doing so. I could have taken or left the Logan episodes. I only watched them because they were on in the reruns and I was used to watching the show. Logan wasn't enough of an interesting character to make watching him solve a crime for an hour fun. Goldblum probably could make an interesting detective. I watched one ep of Raines and thought it had potential, but then it was gone before I could remember to watch it again. But I think we all agree, Goren is where it's at. That character needs to get out of his funk and back to knowing everything and being quirky so Eames can make acerbic quips.
-
but I might check the show out now because crime dramas should be creepy. Although he would be a better serial killer or child molester than a cop.
-
so I can finally show people who never watched what a good show it is (me acting out the episodes for them is just not the same).Chris Noth is now a big movie star. His fim made $50 million its first weekend. He is keeping himself free for the spinoff film he was promised, "Mr. Big and the City".
-
...that TVGuide.com posted this yesterday afternoon. Amazing!

If you're in LA he's doing a Q&A at the El Portal Theater
by drewlicious
It's Sunday night for a film festival. He's not showing anything there he's doing kind of a lecture. I think it's going for 10-12 dollars for it. Interesting guy.
-
I'm not a fan of the "Law & Order"s but I'll definitely tune into to see Jeff. I didn't know Alicia Witt was in the cast. She freaks me out.
-
Does he actually think that he had any real bearing on S&TC's success? Give it a year he'll be begging at Dick Wolf's doorstep again. -
for dialogue and exposition with all that careful posturing, thoughtful sentence conjuring, and stuttering. That said, I'd watch Goldblum in this. Though I hadn't realized he'd had another crime drama, or even that Noth was back...
-
I'm really glad that they have decided to not cancel Raines in the end! I wonder how this L & O will work? Can you have two over the top cops? Jeff is not known for being the straight man.
-
Goldblum is the man.
-
Wasn't that his first foray into a TV series? Or has someone mentioned this already? Or am I thinking of someone else? That was a long time ago.
-
I'm a dumbass.
-
Noth was never brought in for a replacement of D'Onofrio. He was brought in because the shooting schedule was causing D'Onofrio some major medical issues. They brought in Noth to keep D'Onofrio on the show by cutting his shooting schedule, not to be his replacement.
-
This will be the first Law and Order I watch in a long long time
-
Too bad it's on a shitty L&O clone.
-
with a computer laptop.
then' he'll have to go. yes yes. go go now. going is good. good to go. yes yes go go good going yes good going going yes goo..*commercial break* -
Be stuttering and pointing his finger in the air a lot? Cause he's got that down.
-
...Zmed replaced Terrio on Dance Fever.

-
Goldblum on Law And Order...hohum. My Mom will wonder who that new guy is, and why does he make her nervous.
-
The show has lost something. Not quite sure what it is. I mean everything 'looks' the same but... something is missing. Probably is that shiny coat of writer paint they had to cut to pay the actors! Not sure Goldblum will be able to bring that element back...
-
You know it will happen. Just wait.
-
really.
-
Ever since Noth did his first L&O run and then finished on Sex in the City, he should already have been a big star by now.
-
Criminal Intent, its really good especially the Vincent D'Onofrio ones. If you get a chance you should really watch the episode with Roy Scheider called Endgame. Obviously inspired by Teb Bundy (but probably 90% of serial killers on TV/movies is) Its an amazing, really solid episode.
-
Fuck the nancy-boy suits.
-
was listed as "Freak Number 1" He was so good then he was better than the other two guys in the apartment, and his career skyrocketted from there.
-
Vincent D. essentially does a Goldblum impression on this show. We might as well have the real thing.
-
Seriously.
-
The hallucination stuff would distinguish his shows from D'Onofrio's. Wouldn't be the first time the L&O franchise took in a character who started out in another, non-L&O series.
-
He should be headlining awesome films not this shitty tv series.
-
He's that goddamn good.
-
Compare Goldbum's performance in THE FLY (Oscar worthy but the film's genre handicapped its qualification) to his characters in JURASSIC PARK or THE BIG CHILL. He's one of the classic character actors and deserves better than an ensemble series.
-
...you betcha ass he gets a gold pass. The man has character, something 90% of tv actors don't.
-

Goldblum is great also in the Tall Guy
by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks
I fuckin love that movie. Elephant the Musical, the funniest sex scene ever(with a very hot Emma Thompson), and Rowan Atkinson at his very best. classic scene "Is there something bothering you, something that you would want to talk about?" "Well yes, as a matter of fact there is." "Then for fucks sake talk to someone about it before I fire you and hire a lobotomised monkey to play your part."
-
Jack Nicholson, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Kevin Costner, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Keenau Reeves, Nicholas Cage, and Ron Jeremy. That's just off the top of my groggy head. I'm sure I'll think of more after I've had some coffee.
-
The show never got a chance, it was low key and well written, but I think too downbeat - shame - it was excellent.
-
The guy plays the same character in every freakin movie. Quick talking stammering hyperactive asshole.
