A Warning to Bond Fans about SPOILER information on THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH

Published at:  Jun 04, 1999 4:24:51 AM CDT

A Warning?

Yes. You see, I'm pretty frustrated right now. Beware of Spoilers concerning the end of the New Bond film. It isn't quite like any Bond ending that has come before. A source spilled this on me tonight, and I'm very very upset to know this twist. I know I'm gonna take some dung for not spilling this twist, but... releasing the end would be... WRONG. Beware of SPOILERS on this movie, cause the spoilers can be quite potent. Akin to "The Chick has a Dick" "Vader is Luke's Dad" "It was all a dream" So please take my advice on this one. Run screaming if you begin to have ANYTHING about the end of the film explained to you. BTW... I am now quite interested in this episode of the BOND series. It is quite cool sounding and different. And if you find out what happens... Have the class to not post it as a headline in Newsgroups, Bulletin Boards, etc. Be a stand up kinda geek. Not a nimrod.

There are days that I really think that this site should be called Aint-it-sometimes-cool-OPINION. Harry, if your gonna call it news, than post it. You run this site off posting news and info. Don't say, "Oh, I heard this, but I'm not going to tell you because it will spoil the movie." That isn't cool news or anywhere near it. I can decide what I want to read or not. Please stop insulting your readership's intelligence. If your not going to post something, then don't say anything about it.

Do us a favour Harry - have faith in your readership (well, most of us anyway!!). I dont recall seeing anything revelationary in the Ep 1 stuff - every thing in it was new to me. But I chose not to partake in the spoilers; lord knows there were enough of them floating around. I would chose not to again - but I would rather it was my choice - you keep posting the news with the appropriate warnings and we'll take it from there. Thats why we love this site, man...

    AINT-IT-COOL-NATIONAL-ENQUIRER-NEWS!!!!

    by kahoona burger

The reason for Harry's reaction to the ending is because it is not something that usually happens in Bond movies. Now I do not know what rumour of it harry's has heard, but I have heard at least 2 different twists that have been mentioned by different sources.

I am have reported reliably on Bond 19 for Harry before, and I have never lied to him or bent the truth.

So trust us when we say you people do not want to know. For the main reason that the rumours are circulating in the news groups. Which is generally very unreliable on news. Wait till a few other more reliable sources have confirmed it before the news appears.

I would have sent a post to Harry about it already but as I said I have heard a few versions from relaible people. So I am waiting until one pans out before I forward it to Harry.

I would like to think that I am reliable in Harry's eyes, and when I know for certain Harry as always will be the first to know :)

So please go off and form you own opinion of the news else where. Just remember that if you want reliable news that pans out to be the truth then this is where to come. You see you can not just print things up willy nilly you have to confirm things first. A sign of good mature reporting :)

other wise this site would be called AINT-IT-COOL-NATIONAL-ENQUIRER-NEWS!!!!

    by stefka

You know, being a pretty big Bond fan has led me to conclusion that most Bond endings are the same. Bad guy dies, Bond wins, Bond gets some. I have heard some rumers about the endings too but by posting that the ending is going to be different you've already given away part of the ending. Isn't that already a spoiler?

With the greatest respect to previous posters, I rather respect Harry's call on this one. He clearly sees this as a special case as it is a fat spoiler not a titbit. Also, this seems to be motivated by love rather than an attempt to irritate and frustrate.
I'm usually the first to get purple in the face over censorship but there are some things it's best not to know.

    Bond Ending

    by mr shev

Harry, tell us! Jesus, it's a Bond movie, it's not that important!

    My Guess

Normal Bond ending: Like computer game. Bond kills very big, rock hard henchman with his bare hands. Then kills big boss (who, though skinny/old/fat/ is EXTREMELY hard)with a witty/large/expensive weapon. Gets laid, lewd comment and then final track for the soundtrack album kicks in....fin

19 Ending: Bond gets properly worked over by henchman who outweighs Bond by about 75lbs, which is fair. Recovers to discover that Big Boss has left the scene ages ago with lots of loot and chicks. Goes back to England and gets bollocked by Judi Dench for fucking up. Goes to doctors and discovers that he has numerous strains of STDs because he doesn't care how many women he shags, and that the condoms he used weren't condoms but hotair balloons invented by Q. Bond loses job. 007 to be played by Leornardo Di Capprio (because good Bonds are always followed by bad ones...)

  • Personally, I think if the spoilers exist, I will find out. Although I tried to vaguely scan over Ep1 spoilers they reached my eyes and ruined a lot of surprise for me. Either that or someone else read it and screamed it in my face. I wonder how I would feel as a director who's entire film has been revealed before it's release. Probably very disapointed. I know I'm gonna hear it for this one, but does this site exist for the love of film going, or for the undeserving, impatient audience that has no interest in the element of surprise? You can be sure this time around that I will not be looking up every detail of Ep2 having learned a huge lesson. I think Harry does a great job at only leaking a certain amout of harmless info (well, most of the time it's harmless.)

    Spoon Fed

    by ss_rat

I managed to get through the whole EP1 spoiler phase (and boy, was that a long phase!!) without seeing anything except who was playing what character. If this was the only movie related site you ever visited (and it is for me) and 3 months ago Harry had said "Something happens to Qui Gon; but I ain't saying what" it would have ruined EVERYTHING!! If he had posted the infamous countdown-to-a-major-spoiler warning and then said all that - then you would have had the chance to decide whether or not to look. But now that the issue has been raised - whether we wanted to know or not - its all screwed up. We're gonna watch the film expecting to see a different ending. Could you imagine watching TPM KNOWING that something was gonna happen to Qui Gon??

Its not a case of not going to the cinema to find out stuff - its not a case of being desensitised to the movie going experience - its about making choices or being spoon fed. It should be our choice to make.

Your concupiscent mockery of our inteligence is quite superficial and overwrought. Why even post this if you're saying nothing. This behavior does not become you Harry. In fact, I think you're lying to get reaction. It's like you're saying "I know something you don't" and you shove it in our faces with a grin. This is indeed a sad day for AICN.

    Bond DIES in the end!

    by joeyc923

Gee, wouldn't that be a shock. Well, they gotta end the series sooner or later. Wouldn't suprise me. What really bothers me is that Harry has decided we are not responsible enough to decide for ourselves weatherwe want to see this information--he's acting like our freecking mother! It IS possible to resist spoilers after all--I did for TPM until some asshole in line decided he had to talk about the book to the guy next to me.
    WARNING! TPM SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!
And, RE: the above, who the hell didn't know Qui-Gon was gonna die, spoilers or no? Anyone with half a brain figured out that there was no way he was making it out of that movie as soon as they read his character description. Darth Maul sort of surprised me, though.

    Ending

    by josh acid

PLEASE tell me the surprise ending comes at the end of the closing credits: "James Bond will NOT return." I absolutely love most of the Bond films, but I think GOLDENEYE and TOMORROW NEVER DIES were lame enough to kill the series. If they're resorting to silly gimmicks to sell THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (such as the rumor of the scene full of ex-Bond Girls, not to mention this "surprise" ending), it should tell you that they finally realize that they're peddling an inferior product.

I'm here on this site for spoilers. To me, that's the purpose for reading this stuff. I'm not going to dog Harry if he doesn't want to give us that info, because it is his site, and I'll respect that. If he feels that strongly about it, then that's a good mark of his character, but for those of us who WANT to know, where do we go looking for it then? Does ANYONE know where to find this piece of information?

I support Harry's call on this one...

    by dcon

...listen, all Harry is trying to do here is warn the people visiting AICN that information that would ruin the ending of what should be a good movie is in circulation. That's it! Remember when Harry posted the news a year ago re: Star Wars and then refused to tell us what it was? When I met Harry in person a couple of months ago I asked him about this and he told me that the info was STILL not out (and it wasn't what happens to Qui-Gon). I almost asked him what is was, but you know what, looking this guy in the face, knowing that he knew I was gonna ask...man, you should have seen the look on his face...kinda a cross between Man - I - Want - To - Tell - So - Fucking - Bad and the look you get from your dad when he's about to tell you your dog got caught in his real axle. Harry wants to share things with us, but he also wants us to get the most out of the movies we see. This is his great dilemma - he wants to give us the scoop, but it would break Harry's heart if he spoiled a great experience for someone if he let THE BIG SECRET OUT. If you want to know so damn bad, go hang out on one of the other sites - I'm sure DH or Cinescape or UseNet will have big spoilers posted soon. As for AICN - well, this is Harry's world, and, although he owes A LOT to his fans for his success, he also needs to do what he believes in his heart is right. Some people think Harry is a sellout (Armaggedon, etc.). IMHO, a move to spoil this movie without regard for the fans experience WOULD be a sellout, as it would involve Harry doing something he didn't feel was ethical simply to satisfy us, get more hits, or whatever...

  • Um, it's common knowledge that John Cleese was cast as "R" so that he could take over in the series for Desmond Llewellyn, who must be pushing 108 by now.

It's pretty obvious that they're going to kill off Q. Knowing that isn't exactly the end of the world. In fact, it makes me want to see the movie more.

The twist that nobody wants you to hear!

    by mr_noodle

The part about all the former Bond women coming back for a role in the movie is only half of the fun. The reason they've all gathered is because they're pissed-off with how they've been treated over the years by the misogynistic Bond. At the dramatic finale of the movie, 007 takes it up the tailpipe with his own special issue high-caliber assault bazooka while being held down against his will by all the women he's trodden on. Shaken and stirred, baby!

As long as they make another Bond game, I don't care!

    by funmazer

That's right. I'm more excited about the next Bond GAME than the MOVIE. But, still. Killing Bond would be DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!!! Bond is the only successful movie franchise ever. It seems every year a 'possible franchise-starter' comes out, and does squat. Or, old series are pushed WAY beyond their limits. (Lethal 4, Alien 4, Home Alone 3, BATMAN 4!) In my opinion, 4 movies does not a franchise make. Ever notice how movies tank out at #4? (beware Indy!) But Bond's made money 18 times in a row. Now THAT'S a franchise. I know, some of the profits margins were awful slim, some of those movies weren't so great, but, still. I mean, when MIB 2 ends up costing God-knows how much, do you think it'll become a franchise? No, because people don't care about it anymore. It'll have SPEED syndrome. A big expensive sequel no one cares about. But the Bonds keep making bucks. So, killing off Bond would be really stupid. Oh, and lay off Tomorrow Never Dies, it was good, dammit. Goldeneye, yes, kinda cheesy. (but WHAT A GAME!) I heard that Bond was going to meet his long-lost bastard son or something. Makes sense, he probably has about 50 of 'em... OH! OH! OH! What if the MAIN BAD GUY was Bond's long lost bastard son! THAT'D BE COOL!

"The World is Not Enough" is written on the Bond family coat-of-arms (as we find out in ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE - which all true Bond fans can recognize as a classic). It's probably also tied in to the name of Broccoli's EON ("Everything Or Nothing") Productions.

Probably everything! Unfortunately. Studios nowadays probably don't have the balls to put out anything but crap formula. Cuz of test screening and bullshit like that. I say let bond screw both women, have them naked or almost naked, and just make a Bond picture like the Sean ones. Duh!

Bond spoiler and spoilers in general

    by kabuki

Personally I don't understand why anybody would want a spoiler on any film let alone a Bond film. I love to be surprized regardless of the film. I almost didn't want to see the trailers for Episode 1, in fear that I would see too much of the film before it came out. Trailers are another thing...lately it seems that Hollywood is under the impression that they have to show half the film in the trailers to get people to see the film. Pisses me off tremendously. I LIKE SURPRIZES DAMN IT!!!!

How about Q admitting -- as he dies -- that he's JB's dad, and that M (his mother) is secretly working for Blofeld (that's why she keeps sending him on suicide missions). And the finale is a big mud-wrestling contest between Brosnan and Dench.

    by edward peregrine

Well, as much as I like Bond, I haven't been to the last few films, so I went ahead and read the spoilers posted here. Can't say it's too surprising--when Entertainment Tonight did a story on the new Bond women, they described Sophie Marceau as a "betrayer." When I heard she was playing an industrialist's daughter, it was two and two to figure she and Carlyle are in cahoots. Her being the big supervillain, well that will be a interesting switch--when was the last REALLY powerful female adversary for Bond, 'cept maybe Barbara Carrera in NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN (purrr)? I think the really big surprise is that a rather "kitchen sink" reality filmmaker like Michael Apted is directing. Maybe he'll show scenes of Bond at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35? (obscure joke)

...just as Bond goes to get his mission gadgets, Q's retirement party is in full swing.

    Q recieves a watch.
    "What is it?"
    "It's a watch."
"I know that. What else is it?"
    "It's just a watch."
    "Oh." (dissapointed)
    "...and camcorder."
    "Oh!" (delighted)

Q blows out the candle on his cake, which, as if by magic, relights.

The BIG spoiler is probably.....no more Bond films.

You all are missing the point...

    by sethshandor

You know that whatever the thing is, the movie company will spoil it anyway by putting it in the trailer!!!!!!!!
    Happens all the time.

Hang on, you mean the "BOND IN PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL" ending...?

    by mr stonky

Wasn't it rumoured months ago in the British press that this one ends with Bond suffering post-traumatic stress or going mad or something...?

WHAT ABOUT THE SPLIT RIGHTS ... ??

    by 754835

They'll change bond somehow, so that MGM have sole rights to the Bond franchise, and the penny-pinching bastards at SONY won't push out THUNDERBALL once again...what about denise Richards and sophie Marceau being lesbians ??Now That would be cool...OH AND BOND IS THE BEST ACTION HERO BECAUSE HE'S ENGLISH, - HE HAS STYLE AND CHARISMA, NOT JUST CRAP PAY-OFF LINES LIKE AHNDOLT BROWNPANTS-A-NEGGER

    My Two Rupees Worth

    by tenner

I was in an Indian restaurant in LA a couple of weeks ago and saw an English language Indian weekly with Sean Connery's face on the cover and the headline: SEAN CONNERY -- THE NEXT JAMES BOND?

    For what it's worth...

    A Lot of Bonds

    by 1936

Would be the spoiler that James Bond is not just one guy, but a group of men wich have all assumed
the Bond identity to work for Her Majesty, at diferent times? And that it would be discovered at the end of the movie, with cameos by Connery, Moore, Lazemby and Dalton?

    Harry, ignore these weenies!

    by machs pfennig

I think it was courteous to warn people that there are spoilers floating around.

I can't say the same for the folks who think it's clever to come here to do nothing but curse and have nothing whatever to say. It's *not* clever, it's rude. There are kids reading this site. Actually, it might be kids doing the rude posts - it's certainly not a mature thing to do.

I'm looking forward to seeing Brosnan as Bond again, as I always have. Harry, with the generic spoiler warning, you've also given us the opportunity to have lots of fun with some truly idle speculation! :) It's true that Bond films tend to be a bit formulaic, a sort of Anglo kabuki, but that is why we like them. A truly shocking Bond ending would deviate from the major conventions - Bond wins, Bond gets the girl - and the death of Q wouldn't constitute such a deviation; there could be another Q, or maybe as someone suggested an R. Bond marries? He did that, in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". Bond dies? Maybe - but he's got to have a son somewhere, another Bond, so killing off the original JB wouldn't even end the series. Bond gets sued for sex harassment? Not likely, he has no employees. Bond's wife turning up alive? Even less likely. A double agent in MI6? That's a whole plot, not an ending. Bond gets fired? Again, a whole plot, with him seeking redemption and reinstatement. The one ending that might truly shock Bond fans would be Bond marrying Moneypenny, but that's not a major deviation - it's still Bond getting the girl.

OHMSS Explains the Key to it all...maybe

    by deepthroat

I don't know any FACTS, but heck facts are crap, speculation's where its at.
The Bond Coat of Arms as metioned by someone says, The World Is Not Enough. The Bond FAMILY coat of arms. Maybe it means something, matybe they couldn't think of a title.
But Electra is definatley the baddie and if that's the spoiler it's crap cos I knew sept 98. It was in Xpose magazine.
