Cool News
For you artistically inclined readers, here's a really cool Crazy 4 Cult contest for ya'!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. As someone who doesn't feel comfortable unless every scare inch of wall space is covered by geek stuff, be it stills, posters, concept art, comic book art, whathaveyou, I was really into reading about last year's Crazy4Cult art show, seeing the images that came out of that as they hit the net... well, I wished I was there for it.
They're doing another show this year and the guys that run it are opening up a rather interesting contest to you guys. They want to offer one of you a place in the gallery where your art will be seen and possibly purchased... You'll see images from last year's exhibition to get an idea of what they're looking for.

Now, I'm not judging these directly, but I think I will get together with Jensen from the gallery when he has his final picks and give my two cents (but that's just because I'm gunning to get some free prints, but keep that between you and me).
Good luck! Do AICN proud! Check out the details below:

Gallery 1988: Los Angeles on Melrose and La Brea (Gallery1988.com) is holding a contest at Aint It Cool News giving a chance to cinema-loving artists everywhere to participate in one of the most talked about annual art shows worldwide, "Crazy 4 Cult." The art show was started last year, with over 50 artists reinterpreting classic cult films in their own styles, giving new creative life to classic cult movies like Office Space, They Live!, Big Lebwoski, Mallrats, Freaks and many, many more. In 2007, we had over 3,000 people come to the opening reception, including filmmakers Edgar Wright and Richard Kelly, and actors Jason Mewes and James Duval.

This year's installment, "Crazy 4 Cult 2: This Time It's Personal" will open August 22, 2008 and will once again be hosted by filmmakers Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier. This contest has AICN readers sending in their own submissions (pieces no larger than 18x24 inches - any medium accepted), remixing their favorite classic cult films in their own voice and style, with one winner being chosen to be included, and purchasable, in the show (details to be explained to winner), as well as get a prize package which includes limited edition posters and prints from last year's show, as well as those that will be released at the 2008 exhibit.
We're not looking for exact replicas of scenes or movie poster art, we're looking for your own interpretation of your favorite scene, character or cult movie - done like no one else can. Submissions should be sent to this email address and the deadline is August 3, 2008. The winning piece would need to be in Los Angeles, framed or ready to be exhibited, by August 17, so please do keep that in mind. Questions can be also be sent to that email address.

The Bowling thing rules!
-
I like the Darko thing too though
-
covering "every square inch of wall" with decoration means your domicile resembles either a serial killer's crawlspace or a teenage girl's bedroom... but I don't want to call this one prematurely.
-
You must not be an artist asshole.
-
I'm terrible at making jokes here, so, I was just joking around: no one take that last statement seriously.
-
...jealous of their talents. Wish I could take a pen to paper like that.
-
Just wondering if you've decided not to cover it. In the last few weeks we've had posters, including the latest one with a glimpse of Piccolo, fake scripts, real scripts, videos of the Chi Chi vs Mai tournament fight...
It seems you've either not been informed or decided not give it any attention...not that I'd blame you, the film will probably turn out to be crap. But if Disaster Movie can get coverage, why not Dragonball? Is there some personal reason?
Also, there are two new Dark Knight tv spots on youtube. -
You are going to have to do a lot better than that to get hits for your dumbass site. Get lost.
-
something i painted just a couple of weeks ago. http://tinyurl.com/6q8ped i wonder if there is a 'one submission per person' limit.
-
It looks good mate, definitely send that 1 in!!
-
that is some great art. Love the Professional.
-
dbthemovie.com Seriously, this movie could not look more rank. that is absolutely one of the most ridiculously ugly movie posters I have ever seen in my entire life. This is going to be way worse than the original material. Which is saying something.
-
"Football? What's a football?"
-
.....first off, what "single" movie (character, scene, etc.) would I choose? That ALONE would take a number of days to decide. And secondly, would there be anything wrong with combining elements or characters from different movies??? For example, it could be really FUN to combine classic western characters in the form of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, representing their look in the same time period...and imagine (if only), "What if?"
-
who gives a fuck about dragonball. quit crying.
-
seriously
-
vadakinX isn't crying, he's spamming the shit out of the boards with "subtle" ads for his Dragon Ball site using that name, kungfuhustler84, and darkman007.
-
Kurzinski, I'm pretty sure that they mean that they would go through the ideas and pick the ones for the show from the e-mail submissions, then you would have to physically mail the piece (framed, mounted, ready to hang) later in August. They put it in the gallery, you just send it there.
-
I wish I was talented instead of just wishing it.
-
Despite the different IP's, grammar and opinions, I am all of those people and I am here to promote Dragonball by saying it looks crap. That makes perfect sense...
I was just wondering why AICN isn't covering it, that's all, especially when they give coverage to crapfests such as "Disaster Movie" and "The Love Guru".
It's like there's an AICN blackout on Dragonball. The Dark Knight hasn't gotten much coverage either in recent weeks. I wonder if maybe AICN is moving away from covering big blockbusters and starting to focus on more obscure films. -
That's some really (wish there was a way to bold) nice work - the eyes up top remind me of "The Phantom Menace" poster with Darth Maul's eyes.
-
i cant place the movie for the rabbit and the airplane. can someone help me identify the movie?!?!?!?
-
For a second there I thought Quint was running this contest himself. If that had been the case there would only have been a 50% chance that it would ever be finished. And then it would be 9 months later anyway.
Yes, I am mocking you yet again Quint and will continue to do so as long as you keep leaving your contests hanging for months after the supposed deadline. Once I might accept that it wasn't your fault. Every single time? Not a chance. -
thanks. and you're right on about the phantom menace reference. the design layout is a direct homage (or swipe, if you prefer) to struzan's phantom menace poster, only reversed. if you look closely, under my signature you'll see the words "after drew". he's one of my favorite illustrators.
-
i think it's donny darko.
-
thank you!!! that makes sense now. i am embarassed i didnt know that, but will admit i never got the whole donny darko thing. btw, ur pic is great!
