Contest

For you artistically inclined readers, here's a really cool Crazy 4 Cult contest for ya'!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. As someone who doesn't feel comfortable unless every scare inch of wall space is covered by geek stuff, be it stills, posters, concept art, comic book art, whathaveyou, I was really into reading about last year's Crazy4Cult art show, seeing the images that came out of that as they hit the net... well, I wished I was there for it. They're doing another show this year and the guys that run it are opening up a rather interesting contest to you guys. They want to offer one of you a place in the gallery where your art will be seen and possibly purchased... You'll see images from last year's exhibition to get an idea of what they're looking for.

Now, I'm not judging these directly, but I think I will get together with Jensen from the gallery when he has his final picks and give my two cents (but that's just because I'm gunning to get some free prints, but keep that between you and me). Good luck! Do AICN proud! Check out the details below:

Gallery 1988: Los Angeles on Melrose and La Brea (Gallery1988.com) is holding a contest at Aint It Cool News giving a chance to cinema-loving artists everywhere to participate in one of the most talked about annual art shows worldwide, "Crazy 4 Cult." The art show was started last year, with over 50 artists reinterpreting classic cult films in their own styles, giving new creative life to classic cult movies like Office Space, They Live!, Big Lebwoski, Mallrats, Freaks and many, many more. In 2007, we had over 3,000 people come to the opening reception, including filmmakers Edgar Wright and Richard Kelly, and actors Jason Mewes and James Duval.

This year's installment, "Crazy 4 Cult 2: This Time It's Personal" will open August 22, 2008 and will once again be hosted by filmmakers Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier. This contest has AICN readers sending in their own submissions (pieces no larger than 18x24 inches - any medium accepted), remixing their favorite classic cult films in their own voice and style, with one winner being chosen to be included, and purchasable, in the show (details to be explained to winner), as well as get a prize package which includes limited edition posters and prints from last year's show, as well as those that will be released at the 2008 exhibit. We're not looking for exact replicas of scenes or movie poster art, we're looking for your own interpretation of your favorite scene, character or cult movie - done like no one else can. Submissions should be sent to this email address and the deadline is August 3, 2008. The winning piece would need to be in Los Angeles, framed or ready to be exhibited, by August 17, so please do keep that in mind. Questions can be also be sent to that email address.
