The Teaser For Fincher's THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON Is Finally Online in Glorious QuickTime!!
Merrick here...
The chilling teaser for David Fincher's THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON showed up in theaters when IRON MAN hit, but is just now appearing online (like this, at least).
Based on a 1922 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, who (between the two of them) brought us BACK TO THE FUTURE, INDIANA JONES, ROGER RABBIT, THE SIXTH SENSE, SCHINDLER'S LIST, and more.
If you haven't seen the teaser, or if you're simply hungry for another dose of surreal editing and impressive effects work...
...tickle the geriatric baby!

cannot wait for that one. Let's hope Fincher won't go academic on our asses.
-
Just in Spanish.
-
According to Fitzgerald...
-
Once again, AICN got scooped. Sad.
-
and I'm not even tan anymore!
-
Come tickle my nads Merrick, with that soft wet tounge of yours!
-
in english and in HD.
great looking flick, can't wait. -
You nailed it..this teaser hasn't been release in HD before (that part is true) but has been on the web in Spanish and in English (unofficial sites) for over a week...cool teaser though. Should be an interesting movie.
-
not so sure about Pitt's southern accent. Sounded pretty weak at the beginning of the trailer. Granted, I'm sure another viewing of Nic Cage in ConAir and he'll sound like a legitimate southern gentlemen....
-
It actually looks rather interesting, but I'll probably catch in on dvd.
-
and i don't mind Pitt's accent. it'll do.and that Indian is one bad ass motorcycle. i'd take that over Arcee in a minute.

OT, but got something going here at work...
by half-baked-goggle-box-do-gooder
We need a list of the best performances portraying whatever the accepted term would be for the "Mentally Retarded". Example: Leo DiCaprio in "Gilbert Grape". NOT Adam Sandler. (Please, they've all been done.) Sean Penn in "I Am Sam", Cliff Robertson in "Charlie", Crispin Glover in "Wild At Heart, Juliette Lewis in "The Good Sister", etc, etc, etc....
Dustin Hoffmann in "Rain Man" - debatable. (Autistic, not "defective".) Brad Pitt in "12 Monkeys": Plain Ol' Batshit Crazy. NOT retarded. Capice?
Thanks, everybody......
p.s.: "BB" looks kinda cool - but what is David Fincher doing in Tim Burton territory? -
Benjamin Button is going to kick so much ass. It was the only good thing about seeing the new Jones movie.
-
why can't Cate Blanchett ever be as hot as she was in Bandits?
-
Cate was smokin' in Bandits. Something about a crazy redhead...
-
Billy Bob in Sling Blade. Tom Hanks in Gump.
-
Thanks, Gatsby. Keep 'em coming.........
-
thank fuck for that, its the first time i've nailed something in six months.
-
this is why you can never trust a trailer:
http://tinyurl.com/6gp9kw -
you can't put a number on how hot crazy is.and don't get me started on red *coughAlyHannigancough* heads.
-
He was nominated for 12 Monkeys, which is pretty much the best performance that will get squeezed out of him. Though Fincher does have the magic touch when it comes to the pretty boy.
-
Was Crispin Glover retarded in Wild At Heart? Oh and I have to say that Cate Blanchett was smoking in Notes on a Scandal.
-
Pitt's performances in Seven, Fight Club and True Romance are pretty great.
-
How can this not do well?
-
he's just too pretty to be taken seriously. thats why 12 Monkeys is always referenced as his best acting.
-
Possibly. You never actually SEE his face, you just see him rocking and hear him screaming, so maybe he should be on the "Debatable" list. Pretty memorable, though.....
-
Some unconventional pics-
Ron Perlman in City of Lost Children, right? Bill Faggerbake in The Stand. M-O-O-N spells Tom.
Not mentally retarded, persay, but I thought Joseph Gordon Levitt in Lookout as a kid with brain damage was really good.
Since you mention the Good Sister, I assume by 'best" you are also including completely hilarious. If so, wasn't there Rosie O'Donnell in that tv movie from a year or so ago, Donnie Wahlberg in Dreamcatcher, the guy who played Dickens in Tideland.
-
Between this & Burn Before Reading ...
RE: Crispin Glover as Cousin Dell in Wild at Heart, I think that they just referred to him as "crazy". -
The trailer is GREAT, but it literally shows the entire timeline in which the movie takes place!! Who's with me?
-
The trailer is GREAT, but it literally shows the entire timeline in which the movie takes place!! Who's with me?
-
Billy Bob in Sling Blade, right?
I'd put that up for memorable. -
Sorry, Gatsby.
-
The F. Scott Fitzgerald short story it is based off of is only a few pages long, and obviously follows him from birth to death. I think this movie is being designed so it is about that journey, with great visuals and the middle part of Button's life(the part where he is most like everyone else) adding the resonance that will make the end more powerful. This is like snapshots I think of a really great trip that can't be expressed unless you took it yourself. Consider that trailer an outline. Not like Cast Away or something, where most of the emotional beats of the film and suspense are all taken away.
-
What about those performances in The Ringer, where the guys were actually mentally handicapped?
Another obscure one, the feral mentally challenged girl in The Name of the Rose? Remember that one? An another for the camp pack, Robin Williams in House of D. -
Adrien Brody in The Village...
"The Baaaaad Coollloooor!!" -
And Im not even the biggest fan of Fight Club or Panic Room. Admired Seven, loved The Game and think Zodiac is hands down his best movie thus far. Here's hoping this one changes that.

In The Green Mile.
-
Particularly the very last scene of the trailer. I doubt they could have ever marketed the movie without giving away the premise that he was reverse aging, but the shot of the toddler was just too much of a give away.
-
Retarded, yes?
-
I'm there.
-
M O O N that spells retarded.

Ron Pearlman in The Name Of The Rose.

and even then, he was RADtarded.

It's Funny...It Doesn't Look Like Fincher At All...
by troutmaskreplicant
It looks like he's been considering the work of Wes Anderson, Charlie Kauffman and Jean-Pierre Jeunet amongst others...not that it's a bad thing of course. I'm still not sure about Brad Pitt's voice though. I think I'm starting to get quite sick of it...
-
Great. I loved Zodiac.
-
come from David Fincher...can't wait for this! --G
-
You gotta be kidding me. Awful performance, horribly written.
-
I like what I see. Great teaser!
-
This really looks great. Even without a story this pictures are pure magic! Now think about a movie with a good story!... wow!
-
if he can't do the accent, then he should be taken into the back 40 and shot.regardless, this looks beautiful and the image of the elderly wife kissing her toddler husband should be creepy but, to me, is instead achingly heartbreaking. you are made of stone if fincher doesn't get you somehow.
-
the trailer is beautiful, fincher and pitt rock, individually and especially as a team
it's kind of obvious what the movies is about, I dont think the trailer gives away too much at all, it certainly left me wanting a lot more (as in the whole movie NOW) Brad better get nominated after being snubbed for jesse james, that movie is the TITS -
It's got that central conceit, and that's about it. It's also slanted toward humor; some slapsticky stuff even opens up the story. This has to be a loose, loose adaptation -- which is all for the best.
-
I think.
-
Nope -- born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, if Wikipedia is to be believed.
-
"...he grew up in Springfield, Missouri, where the family moved soon after his birth."
I guess Missouri is more right than not. My bad. -
a very interesting concept that is ripe for expansion, hence this movie, which will, once again, be awesome...
with regard to the switch in timeline, ask yourself this ginrei, if it took place in the original timeline, could he ride that supremely badass motorcycle?
nope? rest my case -
It HAS actually been in English AND in HD on Apple's site for days.
Spawn, I hope you're right, because the last shot sure looks like the end of the movie with I guess the Blanchett character being kissed on the lips by a toddler boy. So I agree with Mooseaka there, although you could predict that shot anyway I guess. I do like the symmetry that they'd 'die' at the same time though. -
"... Benjamin Button is finally on AICN in glorious quicktime".
Ya spazz (does Merrick qualify for the retarded people and movies thing ? (I keed))! -
...wrote the original story. For awhile, I thought they were ripping the character off from a villain I saw in an old Marvel Team-Up when I was a kid. Some dude who, because of one of those weird, cosmic, alcoholic-comics-writers-on-a-deadline-plot-point thingamajiggers was born old and kept getting younger. Of course the Marvel version also talked backwards and had a flying saucer!
-
I like Fincher's use of CG don't get me wrong but I can't quite figure why the clock is CG instead of just a macro shot. The shot doesn't start that wide, and the speed suggests that it started really wide and we're just seeing the last part. What gives?
And was the same shot in Hudsucker? Bigger clock, but same hand woobling then moving back? Gotta watch that flick again. It's one of the Coen's greates and I just don't get why everyone loves Lebowski to death and slags Hudsucker off.
My 2c on Pitt is that he was every bit as good as Affleck in Jesse James. He even stayed still for more than 10 seconds! Amazing performance! -
... according to the girl in the office down the hall who's also from there and says he went to her high school (..."but years before I went there", she always wistfully adds)
-
harrison ford in regarding henry...? i think?
-

And it's weird but I thought If he starts old but the size
by half vader
of a baby then he'd grow to be the size of an old man with a 'baby face'. Seems strange that he gets 'younger' the whole way through, but his body grows forwards, stops, then goes backwards, based on that trailer toddler shot. Unless all is not as it seems...
Oh whatever. Just bring the damn thing out already. Forget all the superhero stuff, Fincher does Jeunet is my most anticipated flick this year (although the Oz wait for Wall-e is killing me). -
Sorry. And for "woobling" too! Although I actually like that one.
-
...had a feature on the ten best unproduced screenplays like ten years ago. Benjamin Button was #1 on their list.
Back then it was supposed to go into production with Tom Cruise. Between this and Iron Man, it's like "The Year of Great Projects Tom Cruise Dragged His Feet On". -
The aging looks really good, but then the ship crash and clock look really bad. But this will be a character piece so I'm guessing the effects work won't matter much to me in the end.
-
i got the impression that the clock was just a part of the teaser. it seemed too cartoony.
also, that's not necessarily brad pitt at the end. there was a shot of him holding a baby earlier on.
-
Mizzou. If he can handle the Seven years in Tibet accent I'm sure he can handle Louisiana one. And don't forget he's already made a film in Louisiana, the Vampire one. And I know this isn't even an accent but what about when he did Snatch?
-
fuck him
-
this looks more Oscary than I assumed... could perfectly sweep in a "Forrest Gump" kind of way... Fincher is obviously on the edge of some recognition (specially after Zodiac), but it's still too soon to know.
-
Near the beginning of the trailer, at the train station, all of the characters appear to be motion capture. What's the point of using CGI for that shot? Or am I misinterpreting what I'm seeing?
-
...because ANYTHING scored with "Carnival of the Animals" will automatically look amazing and magical, even found footage of NASCAR fans drinking Bud Light and scratching themselves.
-
and I say that as a card-carrying, cock-sucking gay homosexual
-
Spider-Man and Ghost Rider verses the guy who ages backwards, right? I have that Marvel Team-Up somewhere.
-
Maybe it's the music.
Maybe it's the fact that I got over Peter Pan when I was twelve, but this looks about as fun as when I got a catheter inserted in my vag when I was 14 and had to piss in a bag tied to my leg at school.
Well, maybe a little more fun. -
A lot of you guys may not agree but Blanchett epitomizes HOT for me...and I've grown to like Pitt over the years. A Fincher movie is something I'll check out regardless.
-
No, in English, AND in HD (after Fincher pulled it down first time around). Read some posts, man.
-
Hey man, how's tricks?
Interesting stuff about the HD. I heard though that with the 5k (holy crap!) RED camera the gamut is supposed to be much wider than the average bear, especially at the top end and has fantastic highlights with plenty of info. Just what I've heard though, I'm no expert.
Holy shit on a stick though I want the baby RED that can do 3k for under 3k ($3000) for my kiddie videos!!
Err, meaning I'm a dad. You know what I meant... -
Huh? You mean the bit where they reversed the film? Mmmm. Fancy effects there all right!
-
Seriously, she's in every third film. WTF?!!Pitt and Swinton? Nah, Pitt and Blanchett are in films together in increasing frequency.
-
At least now we know what Fincher was doing with that soulless monster in the Orville Redenbacher ads.
-
I will see anything he and his buddy, Soderbergh, create... even their not so graet movies are still pretty good.
-
Donnie Whalberg as Duddits in the equally retarded Dreamcatcher. You know it's true.
Trailer looks great. If you weren't moved you have no soul. -
shouldn't his last years be as a man of adult size with the face and features of a child? That would've looked interesting.
-
the film I am most excited for to come out in 2008. This was more intriguing to me than all of Indy 4 when I saw it in the previews.
-
So that teaser looks to have given away 70-80% of the movie for one. Also does Brad Pitt look like Robert Redford when he's like just brad pitt in makeup? Also the beginning of the movie looks like the Where's Your Head At music video. Hope this one turns out good. While Panic Room and Law and Order: Zodiac where good, there were ultimately forgettable. Especially when paired against Se7en/Club/Game. And Alien3 just for Roc boxing with an Alien.
-
they all deserve a cyris dewey award.
-
It's a "Cyrus Dewey Brave Choice Award."
-
My butt's in a theater seat waiting, already. Anything Fincher does interests me. Zodiac is a masterpiece!

trailer is pretty basic but its still the 2nd most promising fil
by rocklobster800
..of 2008. After the Dark Knight naturally.Although as much as I love Fincher I do wonder what Tim Burton could have done with this material...oh well.
-
now i dont have to see the movie.
