The Teaser For Fincher's THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON Is Finally Online in Glorious QuickTime!!

Published at:  Jun 19, 2008 10:51:37 AM CDT

Merrick here...

The chilling teaser for David Fincher's THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON showed up in theaters when IRON MAN hit, but is just now appearing online (like this, at least).

Based on a 1922 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, who (between the two of them) brought us BACK TO THE FUTURE, INDIANA JONES, ROGER RABBIT, THE SIXTH SENSE, SCHINDLER'S LIST, and more.

If you haven't seen the teaser, or if you're simply hungry for another dose of surreal editing and impressive effects work...

...tickle the geriatric baby!

We need a list of the best performances portraying whatever the accepted term would be for the "Mentally Retarded". Example: Leo DiCaprio in "Gilbert Grape". NOT Adam Sandler. (Please, they've all been done.) Sean Penn in "I Am Sam", Cliff Robertson in "Charlie", Crispin Glover in "Wild At Heart, Juliette Lewis in "The Good Sister", etc, etc, etc....

Dustin Hoffmann in "Rain Man" - debatable. (Autistic, not "defective".) Brad Pitt in "12 Monkeys": Plain Ol' Batshit Crazy. NOT retarded. Capice?

    Thanks, everybody......

p.s.: "BB" looks kinda cool - but what is David Fincher doing in Tim Burton territory?

The F. Scott Fitzgerald short story it is based off of is only a few pages long, and obviously follows him from birth to death. I think this movie is being designed so it is about that journey, with great visuals and the middle part of Button's life(the part where he is most like everyone else) adding the resonance that will make the end more powerful. This is like snapshots I think of a really great trip that can't be expressed unless you took it yourself. Consider that trailer an outline. Not like Cast Away or something, where most of the emotional beats of the film and suspense are all taken away.

But what's with the CG clock?

    by half vader

I like Fincher's use of CG don't get me wrong but I can't quite figure why the clock is CG instead of just a macro shot. The shot doesn't start that wide, and the speed suggests that it started really wide and we're just seeing the last part. What gives?

And was the same shot in Hudsucker? Bigger clock, but same hand woobling then moving back? Gotta watch that flick again. It's one of the Coen's greates and I just don't get why everyone loves Lebowski to death and slags Hudsucker off.

My 2c on Pitt is that he was every bit as good as Affleck in Jesse James. He even stayed still for more than 10 seconds! Amazing performance!

At least now we know what Fincher was doing with that soulless monster in the Orville Redenbacher ads.

    Fincher is the MAN!

I will see anything he and his buddy, Soderbergh, create... even their not so graet movies are still pretty good.

are we still talking great retard performances?

    by judascow

Donnie Whalberg as Duddits in the equally retarded Dreamcatcher. You know it's true.

Trailer looks great. If you weren't moved you have no soul.

shouldn't his last years be as a man of adult size with the face and features of a child? That would've looked interesting.

the film I am most excited for to come out in 2008. This was more intriguing to me than all of Indy 4 when I saw it in the previews.

    Ok

So that teaser looks to have given away 70-80% of the movie for one. Also does Brad Pitt look like Robert Redford when he's like just brad pitt in makeup? Also the beginning of the movie looks like the Where's Your Head At music video. Hope this one turns out good. While Panic Room and Law and Order: Zodiac where good, there were ultimately forgettable. Especially when paired against Se7en/Club/Game. And Alien3 just for Roc boxing with an Alien.
