Published at:  Jun 18, 2008 10:47:28 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Universal has nabbed the Oni press graphic novels THE LAST CALL for producer Barry Josephson (ENCHANTED).

"The Last Call," written and illustrated by Vasilis Lolos, centers on two teens on a joyride who get hit by a train -- an interdimensional soul carrier -- and find themselves on a quest to solve a mystery that will allow them to return to their regular lives. Series debuted last year.

In other words, this project involves...SOUL TRAIN!

Medals for being stupid cunts, that's what you get. So sad. Anyway, I hear Carson Daly is onboard with this project and he'll be playing one of the teens. All fact.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but I always recognize Merrick's writing. Not in a good way.

    As Hollywood goes...

    by spencertrilby

they'd rather greenlight Watstax 2 - Back 2 da hood, rather than making something original. Once the Marvel fad is over maybe we'll have original content again.

I don't remember Rosie Perez having that nice an ass, but could be.

In other news, reports have poured in of a Mack paradigm shift as minute 2:44 in the video has proven incontravertably that, despite current popular belief, pimpin' is indeed easy.

    Cool Art

    by medianerd

Just flipped through the preview real quick at Oni Press' website, this Lolos cat has some nice pen art. That's the problem with converting indie comics to film, rarely is there a way to translate the unique art into real world images.

That really says it all, I think. Maybe the graphic novel is something special, but a movie? Uh... no.

    Not Tim Powers' Last Call?

    by william ashbless

The brilliant novel that was optioned back in 2000? Too bad. Tim Powers' novels are a freakin' goldmine for some awesome movies, or even miniseries. I mean, the man was mentored by Philip K. Dick! How much longer must he live in relative obscurity? If you haven't read a Tim Powers book, please do yourself a favor and do...you won't be dissapointed!

    Probably as exciting as 'Stardust'

    by scottindc

This bad penchant for meandering fantasy movies based on graphic novels or short stories needs to die a fiery screaming death. This one looks like it will sit in the same development purgatory that's plagued much of Clive Barker and Peter Straub's fantasy literature...a place from which there is clearly no return.
