Chicago!! Capone. You. WANTED. Thursday, June 19!!

Published at:  Jun 16, 2008 7:44:56 PM CDT

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. I've got a couple of major screening announcement in the coming days and weeks, and, hey, look at that--here's one right now:

We've got the AICN-sponsored Chicago premiere of Universal Picture's WANTED, starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Terrence Stamp, and Chicago's own Common. The screening will take place on Thursday, June 19 at the AMC River East theater, 7pm.

I've seen about a dozen different trailers for this movie in the last few months, and every time I do, I say "I've never seen anything like that before" about some scene or another. I looks to be an absolute action overload. I'm particularly excited to be screening this movie because the filming of WANTED kind of took over my town for part of last year, right around the time when DARK KNIGHT was shooting here as well, and I kept bumping into both productions; it was a pretty exciting time in the Windy City, as it is now with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale filming PUBLIC ENEMIES everywhere I go. Period films in Chicago are a glorious thing to behold.

But I digress. Since we have limited time and an entire theater to fill (about 200 seats all for AICN readers), I'm going to keep things simple.

Please e-mail me at capone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "I WANT YOU TO WANTED ME".

In the body of the e-mail, give me your full name and the full names of your guests (you can have up to four people including yourself.

You must be at least 18 to enter, kiddies!

I also want a list of your three favorite action films of all time--the bloodier, the better. All I need are the three titles, but if you feel you need to explain or justify your choices, limit your comments to one sentence per title

.

The names of the winners will be posted on AICN on Wednesday, hopefully before 5pm (CST). IDs will be check against a guest list, so bring one.

I'm going to plow through each and every entry and pick out those with the best three selections. Good luck, everyone. I'll see you there.

    According to Michael Grant...

The author of Gone, the book was pulled from AICN because we are all vulgar, close minded, and verbally abusive.

    GONE

had nothing to do here in the first place. Bad move. Plus, now we have to forever deal with talkbackers who wont let go, even if we were triumphant..That is the worst part if you think about it..

It a new, and pretty exciting 4K (that's over 4x the resolution of 1080p HD) digital cinema camera. And to correct Terry Malloy's first comment - the film was shot mostly on film, the Red One was only used for special effects shots

"Wow, I was psyched and surprised to see the trailer, I had no clue it was coming out so early.

I'm also blown away that there is such a huge reaction to it. The good, the bad, I love it all. I've been getting emails from all over the world and heard from friends I've known in the Karate and Kickboxing circuit whom I haven't spoken to in years. I'm starting to realize how huge The Punisher fan base is.

I'm not sure what kind of impression I would get from this trailer if I didn't actually know the film. I am utterly impressed, though, they managed to find that much PG rated action footage at all. It had to be a challenge to cut a trailer from our action stuff without showing any gore and blood.

I've been told that you can't even show heads blowing up in red-band trailers. I hope that's not true because that would suck. It's weird to see Castle shoot all those bullets and not see the thugs who are catching them. That's the best f*cking part about it!!!"....this bitch is nasty...but i bet the new punisher still sucks

    Red One

    by medianerd

My school has a couple of them, pretty nifty camera's from what I've heard, though I have no hands on experience with them(I'm in the efx department not the film). Cheap(comparatively) and the chips are fairly large which helps with the depth-of-field issues normally associated with digital cameras.

Naw, Jolie can still bring it.

    by fiester

Not many female stars that can play those roles with such aplomb. I agree Jolie is overexposed, but she still brings a tacklebox of talents with her most actresses would envy.

I haven't seen anything about this movie except the poster. And the poster is terrible. I actually thought this came out back in March. Jolie is over. There is something about getting knocked up that makes a woman less attractive. Even if she has her body back, it's, I don't know, kinda used and broken.

Really? What two-bit press put this one out? Something about it reminds me of Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever.

River East is a great theatre/Was in Batman Begins

    by reload

I lived right near it, and went there all the time. Nice bowling alley too, Lucky Strike I think it is.

I only wish I still lived in Chicago. I was there last May when they were shooting Wanted over near the new Trump tower. It was some scene with a Bus speeding over the bridge.

Oh yea, and what was really a trip was when I saw Batman Begins. In the Batmobile Chase scene midway through the movie, the chase went right by the River East theatre. It's pretty cool to see it the Batmobile speeding by the same place you're watching the movie.
