Score One For The Lower 48!! Bob & Doug MacKenzie Cartoon Takes Off For Fox Network, Eh??

Published at:  Jun 16, 2008 7:53:51 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

It looks like the Bob & Doug MacKenzie cartoon being produced for Canada’s Global TV network has found a U.S. home in the animation-friendly Fox Network.

The 13-episode series, based on the beer-swilling Great White North characters created for “SCTV,” will reunite the voices of Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis. The pair earlier spun the characters off into a (hilarious) 1983 big-screen comedy titled “Strange Brew.”

still have the 1983 cassette somewhere

    by sir loin

I used to use that to "test" hi-fi systems back then in the stores, once and awhile people would recognize it. Had to love the Geddy Lee bit, too. Ergo, I'll watch the cartoon :D

    Strange Brew was hilarious?

    by snowpuff

I remember it being vaguely disappointing. How old was Herc in 1983 anyway? Ten?

    Welcome to Cartoon Network 2.0

The Simpsons; King of the Hill; Family Guy; American Dad; The Cleveland Show; Sit Down, Shut Up; the Bob & Doug Mackenzie cartoon; I still think that Pitts animated reboot is waiting in the shadows, ready to ambush us...

...but if you don't like Strange Brew, you probably don't belong here. It's kind of a nerd cred litmus test.

    Does it still hold up?

    by willips brighton

In my mind it does. Haven't seen it in a minute though. My father used to show it when he taught Hamlet to high school seniors. That's some good teachin'.

Man I hope they bring something fresh to the Great White North, that movie was so quotable. There's no way I'll crash this, this is a beer truck, eh!

I loved Bob & Doug. I loved Strange Brew. But this cartoon isn't going to be funny... looks too cheap.

So basically we'll never see it.

    by fiester

It will air Sunday nights, presumably, after football games. Which means "we now return to our regularly scheduled program already in progress followed by local news" so pretty much 8 minutes of the show and four minutes of commercials followed by cancellation for low ratings.
