UPDATE!! Independent, unimpeachable sources assure me that there will be a total of 11 new regular-series "Battlestar Galactica" hours in 2009.
The original plan was to use the last two hours for the series finale. When the finale was expanded from two to three hours, 2009 got its 11th hour.

Because the number of hours SciFi is airing next year may have been upped from 10 to 12. And word is the not-“Caprica” TV-movie prequel is a 90-percent certainty.

If you've just started watching this season then you'll not have a fucking clue what's going on! Personally, I'd stop watching right now, go out and buy the pilot and seasons 1-3, and enjoy a damn fine show. Although you've probably ruined too many of the surprises by watching season 4 first. What the *FRAK* were you thinking???!!!

the closer galactica got to earth, the older the artifacts and "road signs" they found along the way.
that means kobol was populated by people (or cylons) who fled earth. People who fled likely because of the reason we just saw.
when the 13th tribe left kobol, 1000s of years later, to RETURN to earth, is this what they found?
what did they do? where did they go?
that's likely what the next episodes will deal with
earth was everyone's goal - humans + cylons - and its is a waste ... it looks like they only thing to do at this point is interbreed + potentially come to understand that is the first act of renewing the cycle (this has all happened before + will happen again) -
Tonight's episode better be something else, or I'm just giving up on the last 12. These past post-Watchtower 10 have been just this side of atrocious.

Deanna said the final cylon wasn't in the fleet. And I doubt it was on the rebel cylon ship, because knowing Deanna, she would just go and talk to him/her/it, and she didn't do that. And I don't think the final cylon is on earth, based on the mid season finale's closing moments. So my guess is that the final cylon is either a prisoner on a Cavill controlled base ship or is dead and has been brought back to life like Starbuck, and is on the re-imagined version of the ship of light with the beings of light/lords of kobol? Are the lords of kobol trying to show what are left of the humans and cylons the error of their ways to prevent the same cycle from repeating forever? I think the show will end back on Kobol or a new, radiation free homeworld, with the few surviving humans and cylons raising the new generation together: Hera, Tyrol's child, Caprica 6 and Tigh's child, etc.

We know that not everyone was evacuated from New Caprica, so the Final Fifth could be there. Also, based on the experience of Anders' group, there may be other colonists still surviving on one of the colony planets.

I imagine the Cylon that D'Anna apologized to in her vision is the missing 5th. All signs point to a 'dead' character. Ellen Tigh and Helena Cain come to mind. It's somebody that D'Anna has met, presumably. Of course she could have been apologizing to Tigh for poking out his eye.

Heckles has a point too. But for that matter it could be Kat or Kendra, etc. What intrigues me is Deanna's certainty. She knows the identity of the fifth and the fifth is not in the fleet. But knowing the identity means she met the person. Who did we see her with on Caprica who may have been left behind? Who did she interact with on Galactica who may be dead now? (Besides Starbuck) Why was she willing to listen to Baltar? Why did she specify Adama to go with her on the shuttle? Is there some thread tieing this altogether that we're missing?

THE ORACLE. Granted, she was supposed to return in a later episode but the actress was unavailable/unaffordable, so they went with a new character. However, that means that RDM could retroactively leave her behind on New Caprica.

NOTE: Earth isn't mentioned. Just a "promised" land. A "new" land.
I believe this is Earth, but I don't believe this is where the 13th Tribe is. The Colonials made a mistake: they followed Kara. -
Remember the Pythian prophecy as told by Elosha: "She also wrote that the new leader suffered a wasting disease and would not live to enter the new land." Why is this relevant? Monty Python: "I'm not dead yet!" Laura Roslin is still alive. The prophecy itself says "And the lords anointed a leader to guide the Caravan of the Heavens to their new homeland." Notice it doesn't specifically say Earth. When we combine the quoted prophecy with what Elosha said about the dying leader, as well as the end of "Revelations" we can reach one of three conclusions. The first possibility is that the planet they have arrived at is not Earth. I don't find this likely, since a divine force seems to have guided them there. The second possibility is that the planet is Earth, yet is not what it seems. Spoilers from around the internet seem to confirm this is true to some degree. Perhaps an event has yet to happen that will rejuvenate the planet, or perhaps the gods/God are hiding the nature of the planet much like the Cylon projections or Tigh's uncontrolled waking visions. Another possibility is that not all of the planet is quite so barren (this seems a bit anti-climactic, so I tend to disregard this possibility). What I *think* is going to happen represents the third possibility: Earth is not the promised land of the prophecy. Remember that the promised land has no name, and thus the promised land may not be Earth. This would be the easiest way to explain why Laura Roslin is still alive. As someone mentioned earlier, I now believe that Earth is the One True birthplace of mankind. Remember the other important religious motto that no one seems to care out these days since the "All this has happened before..." prophecy has become so popular. The other saying-representing the first words of the sacred scrolls is that "LIFE HERE BEGAN OUT THERE." What if 'out there" is actually Earth? The survivors of an Earthly catastrophe (perhaps part of the Cylon cycle, but maybe not. I tend to think the end of Earth has nothing to do with the cyclical prophecy) arrived on Kobol, and then after the Kobol exodus the 13th tribe said "let's go to Earth instead of searching for a new home." This would explain why the 13th colony knew the planet was called Earth (everyone on Kobol would know because they or their descendants had lived on Earth and named it). So now what? What is the new homeland if not Earth? Will there be a return to one of the colonies? Is the homeland New Caprica, thus seeing a return to that barren little rock? Will there be a return to Kobol (seems likely to me. What if the cycle is a constant return to Kobol after discovering Earth is a wasteland?)? Will a new planet be home to the survivors? In all honesty, I don't see any ending other than a return to Kobol... at least from a realistic sense. If the show ends with a truce between humans and cylons, then why the hell wouldn't they go back to Kobol? It's the only place in the universe that seems lush and isn't dying of radiation poisoning.

If peace is reached, then there is no blood. Even if say, a price has to be paid, it would be illogical for humanity to die out completely on a barren Earth or irradiated 12 colonies for fear of unspecified bloodshed that may possibly already have come to pass in seasons 1 and 2. Recall that those who died on Kobol died from Cylon attacks; a non-issue if a peace is reached.

The truce is with a subset of Cylon, not all of them (and Gods know what's happening back on the Cylon Homeworld). There's no reason to believe that Cavil et al. will change their stance.

I never watched a single episode of the os, but since its common knowledge that there are a bunch of plot homages in the series, its padding my half-assed theory that "Everything has happened before and will happen again" is insinuating that this series is a prequel or sequel to the original continuity, and just one loop in a series of predestined/ inevitable events- and at some point either near the end of the season or start of the next half, they'll find the remains of the 1979 BSG (it did make it to Earth at the end right?). Anyways, itd make sense from a business perspective too since by tying this into the original they can enhance the popularity of both series when this is canceled as itll give fans f this series a reason to watch the original episodes and the fans of the old to watch this (if they aren't alread), while expanding the 'Battlestar Universe' as a whole, and allowing the birth of new related properties without seeming like they're milking a single show or beating a dead horse. Of course Im drunk right now. So I may think very differently tomorrow afternoon.

It looks like Ron Moore finally got around to re-imagining the original series' storyline about Terra. I predict the Galacticans and Cylons will find clues on Terra that lead them to Earth. What I wonder is if Terra is completely dead -- are there a few humans on the planet?

The thing is that I don't usually watch first seasons anymore. Firefly burned me. Bad. I don't like to think about it. If I could sue those stupid Fox bastards for pain and suffering...well, that would be retartded. But you see my point.
So I didn't start watching BSG until this season. But this being Coaxial and it being my favorite place to be on AICN since BtVS wildfeeds, I started *reading* the BSG TB's since the beginning. So I know a bit. I even know what happens this mid-season ep because I am a spoiler whore. (That's right; I said it. What are you going to do about it?) Sometimes you guys throw me by mentioning first names and last names but I think I'm following along okay. And like I said, I will be getting all the seasons when they become available in a nice looking package that hopefully resembles a Viper.
No one still answered my question if I NEED to see the prequels though. I'm skittish because...did I NEED to see the Star Wars prequels??
That would be, "No".
However, I did dress up as Darth Maul for Halloween. Once. -

This is something i don't understand. Where do the frakkin' cylons live? Do they have a home planet? Or are they simply flying around in space like the last remnant of humans? If they DO have a home planet, why do they give a crap about earth? I'm also not buying the feel-good alliance with the cylons in this episode. It's not like these two factions just happened to get entangled with each other and duked it out for awhile - the cylons practically destroyed the entire human race. THEY are the reason the humans have to search for earth to begin with, because the cylons ANNIHILATED them. And now they're going to shake hands and decide to start fresh together and work together? Weak.

i think that the overall story is like that of the matrix. i think that humanity and the cylons are in a cycle and that this trip will break the cycle.
deanna started with the "this has all happened before" and lee interjected with "but it doesn't have to happen again"
when the hybrid said "kara thrace is the harbinger of death. she will lead humanity to its end" could be referencing the cylon/human babies that are popping up. meaning the only way for the cycle to end is for a new race to emerge. -
If they wanted to show it was Earth they could have showed continents or recognizable landmarks. Accidental ambiguity is unlikely. On that other hand, if it's not Earth, wouldn't Starbuck say something? Or is the planet WE saw at the end of S3 the same planet Kara saw?

Check out the comparison picture Jim Jam Bongs put online. Amongst the fallen debris where the group is standing, there is what appears to be a dome-top structure from a fallen building. Is there such a building near the Brooklyn Bridge?

Also... look at the architecture. It's clearly not human. It looks more like a COLONIAL planet, then the planet we currently sit on. So I am going with the planet they found being the planet the 13 lived on before they came to earth, and simply kept the title.

:) Easily the best since Exodus Pt. II. Maybe even better. I guess it's a moot point now since it's trashed but why, under any circumstances, would they lead the Cylons to Earth? Kind of blows the whole last refuge thing out of the water. And they took time off to reinstate Roslin, just before the jump? That's convenient to prophecy, but contrived.
I love that Tigh is cool again. He was always my favorite character and I haven't been digging him this season. This ep was great from beginning to end. I'm glad I was patient through this craptastic season. The Earth resolution was fine by me, but I can't see what could be coming at this point. -

the last scene is the TEMPLE we saw in the book Lee referenced to Kara at the beginning of the episode. Does that temple seem like something from Earth to you? This planet they found may have been called EARTH, but it's not THIS EARTH. Something I am sure these people will discover over the next 11 episodes. What they thought to be the end, was only the beginning.

I'm pretty certain that the reason they're not referring to the split as separate seasons probably has to do with contractual wording. Actors sign to TV shows for x number of episodes spread out over x number of seasons. Could be a case of HAVING to word it like this to avoid breaching contracts with cast, crew, the studio the B.C. studio they rent, their distribution (worldwide), their DVD deals, etc.

Was either a huge clue, or something to make us believe its the real Earth and they'll brush it aside as something like, "it just happens to look like a cross". I gotta admit that it looked a little like NYC to me, but then the buildings, or ruins, looked more like the buildings on Caprica as seen in the shows intro. They look more rounded and futuristic than ours. Either way though, cool show.

If this is not the real Earth, what will the real arrive-at-Earth scenes be like? They went through all the motions except for the very end. Does this mean the real homecoming will seem repetitive, or will it be rushed and hardly shown like on Voyager?

I remember a story from my childhood (can't remember what it was called) about a devastating war that annihilates almost all of humanity and a number of "seed" ships are sent to the stars in a last ditch hope for the survival of the species. This ending reminded me of that - the fact that the Colonies are named after the Zodiac - after the constellations in that temple...

I mean, really, did anyone expect this show to end with them finding big green valleys and living happily ever after? They found earth and it's decimated. Now where do they go? What if it describes the original EXODUS from Earth - the dying leader was on Earth and saved humanity with a crazy plan to send twelve seed ships, Noah's Arc style, each heading for a different constellation - and each carrying twelve randomly (or lottery or whatever) selected embryos, cryogenically frozen and a HAL-like AI running the ship and life support called CYLON. Acutally, I'd say it's about finding the 13th Tribe and Humans vs Cylons. There is still a lot of bad cylons out there -- in fact, way more than good cylons. I can guarantee there will be a big space battle coming.

That definitely looked to me to be NYC...trouble is, from the Discovery Channel special on what would happen if mankind disappeared from Earth, the skyscrapers would rust and completely collapse in less than 300 years. The place was nuked a long time before that, assuming the survivors left that planet, settled on Kobol, then that got nuked and they set up the 12 colonies during the next 2k years. The radiation should also be at a safe level after 4k to 5k years. Perhaps as others have said, this is Planet Terra, which was in the original series, and the discovery of this planet is meant to be a cautionary tale to both the humans and the Cylons to test them if they are worthy of reaching Earth, just as Apollo in the original series was tested. Of course, there is one way to sort all of this out while leaving this as the Earth... There's a wormhole or time loop that the Humans and Cylons will enter to travel back in time and hopefully re-create a peaceful civilization and thus prevent the Earth from nuking itself. If they are not successful, then everything will happen again and again, thus jiving with the scrolls. They have to break the chain at the beginning of the founding of what led to their civilizations. That's the key. There should be some character that pops up to tell them this, and have that character played by Dirk Benedict or someone else from the original series. The character should also explain how Kara is still alive. The drama for the next episodes could be the struggle with this information as well as factions created on both sides such as Cylons (Deanna and Torri) who exclusively want to set up the original society, Humans (Roslin) that want that exclusivity for themselves, and a third faction that want Humans and Cylons to accomplish this together (Kara, Baltar, and others). Hell, they wouldn't even have to use Dirk or an original series cast member for that...they could use Baltar and reveal that our Baltar is a clone or something whose purpose was to orchestrate the entire chain of events...to be a destroyer and a redeemer. And then top it all off with Adama being the last Cylon, which appears to be the direction it will be going. There's other twists that they could use. Kobol could be the original true Earth, which I'd say would be cribbin' off ol' Isaac Asimov. I think at this point if they want to shock the audience (and give us a legendary "fuck you"), they'd end the series by the survivors (Humans and Cylons) making the jump to the real Earth, only to find out their reward for their troubles is being on the receiving end of Earth firing their weapons at both fleets and obliterating them all. The end. Actually, I think I like that a lot. But I still would like an explanation of what the Lords of Kobol are/were, and like with the hints from the original series, our "Cylon God" is a jealous former Lord of Kobol that plotted to wipe out the rest of the others. That would be a fitting analogy to Judaism since Yeweh was originally a minor deity of the Semetic pantheon since El and His Wife were the top dogs, so to speak. Funny how that doesn't get covered in modern Judaism or Christianity.

Summary (since this is a long block of text):
The Hybrid warned against following Kara Thrace, but the Colonials did it anyway. Now they're in the wrong place. They need to find the Final Fifth, who, with the Final Four, will show the way to the home of the 13th Tribe ... all while fighting off the Cavil-led Cylons.
Disclaimer:
This is just something I came up with. It's not written in stone (notepad, actually). The purpose in posting it is to test it. If you find a flaw, GREAT. If you have a different interpretation, that's also great ... we can discuss it and see what we come up with. I may embrace your position, I may not, don't take it personally. The goal is discussion, not conclusion. This is a start point, not an end point.
The Nebula:
The Nebula is KEY. This is where things went wrong. Up until that point, the Colonials were following the correct path. The activation of the Final Five was the next step in the correct path. However, something else happened: Starbuck came back from the dead (confirmed in a podcast that she was dead). Multiple Hybrids warned against following her. The Colonials did anyway. Why? Because whoever brought Starbuck back returned her at the exact moment to pre-empt the next step. Since In-Head Leoben led her to her death, I'm going to guess that he was an agent of that power (we'll talk about them all later). So upon Starbuck's return, the wrong path was taken.
Now, there are some questions here (and possible flaws). Starbuck's path took them to the Hybrid and the destruction of the Resurrection Hub. The hybrid didn't want them following Starbuck, but she did seem to want to destroy the Hub. So it gets kind of confusing. Was the purpose just to follow Starbuck some of the way? Would the Hub destruction happened anyway if they followed the Final Five? Hard to say.
The McGuffin:
BTW, I think there's a giant McGuffin that is everywhere in the BSG universe and I think we've been tricked with it. I refer, of course, to "This has all happened before and that will all happen again". Many of us are trying to fit events into some sort of cycle. This has resulted in some far out looping (Cylons invented on Earth thousands of years ago, etc). I think we've taken it too far. For all we know, the cycle in question is tens of thousands of years old. So I am not going to try to fit the events into a cycle. There's an almost infinite number of ways to do it, and I don't think it gets us any closer to the 'truth' of the remaining episodes.
Earth:
Ah, good old Earth. And yes, I do believe they're on Earth. I believe that Earth was the previous home for those that ended up on Kobol, but it really becomes an academic question. Was Earth destroyed before the 13th Tribe set out for it 4000 years ago? Possibly; would make sense why everyone was on Kobol and ONLY Kobol (in a Universe with no aliens, why, 4000 years ago, was all of humanity on one planet? Could it be because they had been on another planet earlier that they destroyed, and their new leaders, the Lords of Kobol, kept a tight rein on them for unknown reasons?) Or was Earth destroyed after the 13th Tribe arrived, either in a battle with other (original) inhabitants or some sort of pseudo-Cylon event like what happened to the colonies (here's a place for our McGuffin)?
Ultimately, IT DOESN'T MATTER. See, a lot of people forget (because of New Caprica and the opening credits) that the real goal wasn't Earth; it was to reunite with the 13th Tribe. Reunited (and it feels so good), they would be able to fight off the Cylons. Despite all the truces and toaster-frakking going on, there's something still out there, because ...
Here Comes the Cavil-ry:
There are now a lot more bad Cylons than good Cylons. There's only D'Anna. A handful of Leobens. Some Sixes and Eights.
But there are potentially hundreds of thousands of all the other models. Not to mention Raiders, Centurions, and whatnot. Granted, those may no longer attack due to the revealed presence of the Final Five, but there are a lot more bad basestars than good ones. And there's still the Cylon homeworld, where resurrection still happens (unless RDM retcons this out) and they could build a new resurrection hub if they felt like it, one that the 'good' Cylons could no longer use.
The Thirteenth Tribe:
So that's what it comes down to -- finding the Thirteenth Tribe. There has to be some survivors somewhere. Back to our McGuffin: if the Colonials survived the Cylon attack, than I'm sure the 13th Tribe survived whatever happened on Earth (or if Earth was already like that). And I'm sure they got into some ships and went looking for a place called ... you got me. But I'm guessing the 13th Tribe is there. And I'm guessing they got there before the colonists left Kobol.
The Final Five:
This is where the Final Five's path comes into play. The Final Five's path leads to the 13th Tribe. Since the path they have followed has been laid out thousands of years ago, it seems that the 13th Tribe returned some of its members to Kobol at some point to create a new path, one that didn't lead to Earth (or led to an Earth 2 or New Earth or something). Now since we don't know the Final Fifth (who could be dead, or one of the colonies/New Caprica, or could've been on the Basestar already, or D'Anna could've been lying, whatever the explanation for the location is), I believe that the plot directions points to the joined Five being able to find the correct path. So the Fifth needs to be found (and I'm sure they'll figure this out pretty quick).
Roslin's Upcoming Death:
She's still the dying leader (remember, it's a wasting disease. Those championing Natalie for this role forget this fact). But the scripture never says Earth. Just the 'promised' or 'new' land. Since the 13th Tribe is what set down the markers, it makes sense that she doesn't die until they're close to their home.
The In-Heads and the Lords of Kobol:
Here's one of the big questions. What is the purpose of the In-Heads? I'm guessing they're avatars of the Lords of Kobol, but it's just a guess. The Cylon God is likely a former Lord of Kobol who was exiled for wanting to be the top dog, and the Cylons found him and he converted them to belief in him. The In-Head Six and Baltar are his doing. Is the Cylon God responsible for them following Kara the wrong way? It's the easiest solution to the problem (since it utilizes an established entity), but the Why is tricky. Maybe he doesn't want the 13th Tribe reunited with the Colonials because the other Lords of Kobol reside with the former? But it's also possible that one of the other Lords of Kobol (Aurora is a very likely suspect here because of her connection the Kara Thrace) doesn't want them reunited because they do not want the agents of the Cylon God amongest the 13th Tribe.
Where Do We Go From Here?
Well, I think the path is simple: find the Final Fifth. Follow the path to the 13th Tribe. Unite with them to stop the (bad) Cylons. Live happily ever after ... until it happens again. This doesn't mean there aren't loose threads (and some of them are already answered above, but we'll include them all) that need answering, but I think this is the core of the final episodes. Some of these are academic (as noted, does it really matter what happened on Earth? All that matters is that it happened).

The splendor of Kara's Earth opposed to the Earth they're on now: Roslin and Kira see a green bank. Natalie sees verdant trees. These are the glimpses of death/afterlife we've been shown on the show.
Now consider what the podcast told us when she returned: Kara DIED. And was returned. What if the splendor she saw was the one Roslin and Natalie glimpsed, not Earth?

I don't want to come off like a troll, but I used to be into this show. During the first season, I liked it better than Lost even. But good god almighty it feels like homework watching it this season. I guess the show, even when it was great, was THIS close to being shitty and it has crossed the threshold with flying colors. It's depressing in a way. I always procrastinate watching it. Hell I might stop watching it if it wasn't so close to the end. But they keep moving the fucking goalposts. Maybe I'll stop anyway.Anyway no offense to those who are still digging it but I can't be the only one that feels this way.

However, the Hybrids interaction with everything is suspect. I'm not sure how much influence the Cylon God has on them, or how it's wielded. The Hybrids might not be able to have an In-Head (which seems to be the Cylon God's method of communication).
But let's say the Cylon God was in contact with the Hybrid, and thus was warning against Kara. Why would the Cylon God allow the Resurrection Hub to be destroyed (it was the Hybrid who was leading them to it)? That's going to take awhile to replace. If the goal was isolation of Leoben/Six/Eight, then just recall the entire fleet to the homeworld.
Because the hybrid worked to destroy the resurrection hub, I think she's in tune to something else besides the Cylon God. -

I thought the inference with Iblis was that he was the demonic creature responsible for causing the Cylons to attack mankind. That he corrupted the Cylons and caused the wholly robot Cylons to destroy their reptilian creators who were the actual original Cylon race. And a piece of that evidence was that the Cylon Imperious Leader(s) had the same voice as Iblis. So using the original series as a template, the Cylon God must be one of the original LoK who turned on them, corrupted the Cylons and used them as a means of destroying humanity which the LoK created. So which Olympian God would be the Cylon God? Ares/Mars? He's the god of war, hated by his father Zeus, a murderer, a coward, and represented by the vulture. Or is the Cylon God Hades? Either fits. Then again, maybe the Cylon God is a Titan who hates all the Olympians/LoK. I would like to know if the 12 Cylons are representations of the LoK. That would explain why there are only 12...because they are "perfect". Then again, it doesn't make a lot of sense why 5 of them would be hidden, or why a rebel LoK would stand for the creation of representations of the other 11 LoK unless he/she took great pleasure in being worshipped by beings that looked like fellow LoK.

Is it still around? Was there a Cylon civil war that destroyed it? Is it named Telos or Mondas? (heh). And what is this "plan" of the Cylons? The only grand plan they seem to have is that they destroyed the Colonies; everything else they've done they've winged it, so it doesn't seem like they have a master plan.

Is the creator of the Cylons, Daniel Greystone. Or at least that's the rumor going around. It makes sense. Seems likely that Greystone would be thought of as a god by the Cylons. Since Greystone literally made a Cylon out of his daughter, that would explain his willingness to call the robots "his children." Looks like Greystone has been cannibalized into the ship, which would also explain the hybrid's confusion when he asked if he was a man or a machine. And chrth... "backwards thinking" it may be, but there has been much made out of the idea that the show is a cycle. Y'know, like bringing you back to where you came from? As for the Fifth, keep in mind that D'anna had reason to know that Tory, Tyrol, Anders, and Tigh would definitely be in the fleet (presumably, she could have met them on G or New Caprica). That's no indication that anyone with unboxed D'anna comprises the entire shortlist of Final Cylon candidates. If she never came in contact with the Fifth, then she would know of, and ask only for thr Four she was certain about.

The original movie was the first film i ever saw at the cinema (The Spy Who Loved Me was sold out). But boy was i ever glad the Bond movie was sold out. I really bought into the neo-biblical universe and had an unforteble time watching that movie. I remember thinking the story reminded me a lot of Noah's Ark; the survival search for dry land to settle upon. I made up that the new series is so good - best TV show ever in my opinion. It was inspired to add the Bladerunner-esque theme of 'what is human', by giving the Cylons human form and emotions - Darrel Hannah and Rugter Hauer's Replicant would fit in well. I'd be even more made up if the finale reveals a 'Noah's Ark' connection - would mean i got it right when i was just 7 :)

... Probably true. Rumours I heard were that originally there was going to be 12 models - some sleepers some not in the fleet. Hence Boomer saying there were 8 Cylons in the fleet when Baltar nearly killed the Chief in that cell - supposedly that number was in her subconscious.
Then they changed tack with the Final Five idea. Apparently the Final Five don't have numbers according to what Ron Moore just said. Since we have model numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 - and 8 - well this does hint at a change of direction during the life of the show. -

in the original series the fleet found the colonies of the planet terra. on one planet they met a family and a couple of androids hector and vector. in one scene hector offered to play a video disk of some dancers in the royal opera house on terra if i remember correctly. the opera house visions in the new series are supposed to be a very important clue. maybe this is the second part of the puzzle.

Ron Moore could be reversing the journey in his take of BSG. Maybe they are indeed on Earth, and the destroyed city is, in fact, NYC. If this is confirmed in the next episode, then where does the series go from that point? Maybe they learn that they have to find the descendants of Earth, who escaped to another planet: Terra.

I'm thinking that the "plan" in the original season's opening sequence was the plan to breed, thereby evolving to take the place of their human creators. That's why they kept some humans alive, like Helo, to learn how they love and reproduce with one another. They figured once they learned how to love one another as Cylons, they wouldn't NEED humans anymore. They would have replaced them as the superior race.
And to those who knock the show for shifting streams and making it up as they go along ... oooookay, but is it done well? I personally think they've done a great job of maintaining a consistent tone and a coherent story, even as the show develops and the internal mythology deepens.
Are some story elements tossed aside without any follow up? Sure. Red glowing spines? That one sticks out in my mind and I'm sure others here can come up with a long list. I'm enjoying what's going on enough that I just don't care.
Having said that, I do NOT think it's fudging (or retconning) at all to say that the Cylons HAD a plan ... which was abandoned or at least modified with time, first because they tried to "live with" the humans on New Caprica (which was a decision made under the influence of those Cylons who had lived amongst humans and saw a possibility for a different way) ... but the problem with New Caprica is that the Cylons tried to enforce harmony through force. This "plan" to ascend to and transcend humanity keeps changing because the Cylons are learning that it requires coming to terms and cooperating with their makers, not destroying, deceiving, or dominating them. -
Yes, the final five thing definitely feels tacked on and RDM even said he only came up with those four during the middle of season 3. But I would dispute the notion that the Cylons were trying to destroy them early on. I always felt like they were being driven to find Earth by the Cylons. They always seemed to know where the fleet was and even Cain made mention that the Cylons were tracking Galactica.
Granted this show has shifted directions a few times now, so who's to say? I think the cheesisness of the four surviving until now is tied in with the whole cheesy, divine inspiration/prophecy element this show has embraced. Once they went down that road, anything is possible. I'm still hoping they explain all these visions and mystical events away with a scientific explanation. Even on DS9, the prophets were advanced aliens, so I guess there's hope. -

In the Miniseries, after they rescue Leobeon, they discuss what should be done. They decide to hunt down and eliminate humanity because otherwise humanity would strike back one day. Earth only became a target for the Cylons later.

What are the Centurions not telling? They've stopped co-operating with the "bad" Cylons, right? Or did they lobotomise their Centurions? Surely they would hold the balance of Cylon power - maybe Baltar new this and that's why he wanted a few moments of that Centurion's time to talk about Jesus.

In the mini-series, he is in a house that appears to be destroyed by a nuclear blast, but then miraculously survives to leave the planet with Boomer. What happened to Six in the blast? Did she "die" to protect him? Or did they both die, and he simply doesn't recall?

I think you're gonna need to watch that (miniseries) again - it's a birrova stretch, I know, but Six somehow saves Baltar from the blast - sacrificing herself in the process. What we find out later is that she has Downloaded into a new body - the one that is currently with-child, I believe?

hmmm... that was when we were introduced to in-head Six - I wonder if the same mysterious force (the Fifth? Iblis? Angels?) that brought Kara back from the dead worked that same trick on Baltar? And installed a little in-head modification in the process?? The reborn Six's in-head Baltar was just a standard Cylon in-head, right - or was there something "special" going on there, too??

That could actually be cool, and it would allude to the original series' Baltar who became the stand-in leader of the Cylons. Perhaps Baltar convinces the Centurians to break free from the humanoid Cylons. He encourages them to exhibit free will... so they do, and choose Baltar as their leader!

I suddenly just remembered the final webisode flashback for Bill Adama that revealed how Aaron Doral orchestrated getting Lee Adama on the Galactica before the attacks on the 12 colonies. It seemed the Cylons wanted Lee to survive for some reason... but then again they did 'have a plan' but it looks like they frakkin forgot all about it in search of the final five. I hope this gets addressed...

The Galactica Fleet IS the 13th colony. At the end of the series they go back in time to an uninhabited earth, the humans and cylons co-habitat on earth and start making babies, create the human race, eventually annihilate their own world (earth) and take off into space and establish the 12 colonies. "all this has happened before, and it will all happen again".

No clearcut views of Earth's continents for ID purposes-- why not after all these years. They would if it were Earth. Nuked cities and charred earth/sand would be pretty depressing ending to the search. My guess is that it was the original Earth, but most inhabitants left for another planet which will be discovered before series ending, a planet likely co-inhabited with Humans and Cylons-- after all they can't commit genocide and the Cyclons are not mortal. Perfect ending: "real" earth found, everyone gets along, future is bright.
Last 3 seconds, Death Star comes out of Hyperspace, fires main weapon and series goes black a millisecond before beam hits planet. -
Here's a notion: 'Adam' from the Genesis story is based on the ancient term 'adama', which stands for the dust/earth/stuff from which all humans were created. Any thoughts?
Also, Cylons are among us. They have continued to evolve. Proof?
Adama --> Obama: the leader who will help us change.
Tigh --> McCain: they fucking look the same and suffered in war.
Roslin --> Clinton: some Cylons get less foxy with newer iterations.

Because everyone on the show thread loved it! And yes one of the best episodes ever. A real punch in the gut at the end. But as I told my friend while we were watching Earth may not be the point of this show. When you see it in that context it really is less damning that it's a scene of left over war and decay. What a great show! I can't wait to see what happens next.

...this is not the real Earth. Rather, it is this series' version of the planet Terra, from the original series of BSG.
It draws directly from a two part episode that featured Ray Bolger as a robot named Hector. They learned the planet was called Terra and hoped it was Earth, which it of course wasn't. They even found deserted cities whose populations had been "destroyed" in a war; although in that series the cities themselves were left standing.
The whole thing wrapped up with Edward Mulhare's "Ship of Lights" character telling Apollo that they had not in fact found Earth yet. Their search for Earth continued; as it will for this series, after however many interminable, infernal months Sci-Fi waits to start airing the show again. -

To those blaming the strike for the delay in presenting the last episodes of BSG, I call bullshit. They just finished filming the series finale. I don't think they need 6+ months to get it ready for airing. They don't need to wait that long. But they do need to wait long enough to market Season 4 part 1 DVDs, followed of course by SEason 4 Part 2 DVDs. The timing of when these episodes are aired is all about money. That's it. The strike has nothing to do with it.

... and Count Iblis is portrayed by Dirk Benedict. Actually, they can't stay on Earth. I think some may request to stay behind, but with the war over and a truce is on with the Cylons (at least some of them) ... I think they'll jump back to the 12 colonies or New Caprica or Kobol.

1)D'anna says the fifth is not in the fleet. Ie. he/she is on the basestar.2.When D'anna was offing hostages, the president was threatened as next out the airlock. She also flat out joked about the Rosilyn being a cylon.3. The only one able to stop D'anna was Baltar. they revere the five, remember?4. Way back when, a Six told Baltar on a basestar that they can project any kind of reality they wish. ie. Baltar is manifesting in-head Sixes/Baltars subconciously because he's a Cylon. Remeber the only other person who created an 'in-head' Baltar was a Six herself. Another Cylon.I'm fairly sure I've sussed it. Whether Ron Moore said it's not anyone in the Last Supper scene is irrelevent. It's his job to throw uis off the scent until reveal time.

Well, the 3 hybrids we know about are Hera, Nicky, and Tigh Jr. 2 of the 3 are Cylon/Cylon mixes. Maybe it wasn't "love" that was missing...maybe they just needed the Final 5 Cylons!

My wife didn't see the webisodes but has thought for a long time that Lee is the 5th. I feel like I have to keep getting that out there incase she's right. :)
My money was on The president for awhile there, but now I'm thinking they might all be cylons ( not joking ) and there is no 5th.

Said this in another thread... one other possibility is that they are creating/fulfilling their own myth. The 13th colony is separated from the other 12 in their own mythos. Could they, the cylons and the galactica humans *be* the 13th colony?

Tigh Jr. is not a 'hybrid' if he's Cylon/Cylon. That's not what hybrid means. Nicky and Hera are the only Hybrids and Hera is so significant to the visions people keep having, that it rules Helo out as anything but human.

bomb shelter somewhere listening to the "along the watchtower" track over and over cause it's the only one that works. The other four hear it because Fifth hears it. His/Her conscious or subconscious is reaching out for some kind of contact. He/She built the ship and altered Kara's meories. Or maybe the Earth Cylons or humans did that before they blew each other up.

Razor hybrid meat when they said Kara would lead them to their end and as the harbinger of death. Not lead the humans to their end, but to lead the Cylons to mortality, which she did by following Leoben to the Base Star.
