Is KAREN FILIPELLI The OFFICE Spinoff?? HUMAN GIANT's Aziz Ansari Confirmed For Cast!!

Published at:  Jun 12, 2008 10:23:14 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Wanda Two Saints over at E! is reporting that one of her “always been reliable” sources says Rashida Jones, who plays Dunder Mifflin’s branch manager in Utica, will be a focus of the “Office” spinoff headed our way at midseason. But W2S can’t get another source to confirm yet.

You’ll recall Jones left the “Office” for a bit to star in the horrible Fox sitcom “Unhitched” from big-screen comedy directors Peter & Bobby Farrelly (“Stuck On You,” “Fever Pitch,” “The Heartbreak Kid”).

Read all of E!’s story on the matter here.

UPDATE!! Variety reports Aziz Ansari ("Human Giant") is a confirmed member of spinoff's cast. Read the paper's report here.

    BBC Office Cameo on NBC?

    by zartan

I thought AICN reported a BBC Office character was making an appearance in Season 2.

I think Michael Scott and David Brent should compete on Trumps' "The Apprentice" with Dwight and Garreth trying to sabotage tasks in favor of their respective bosses.

Not only is Rashida beautiful but she's smart and funny and deserves a show much better than what Farrely Brothers gave her. This could be a good show if there's more interaction with original Office characters, especially Jim and Pam.

How could Herc of all people forget Angel? That was the first show to spring to my mind when the convo of spin-offs came up. Buffy was a good show, Angel was legendary. I still miss Wesley Wyndam-Price. And on a related note, I would dig a Karen-centric Office spinoff. She is hot and funny as hell. Loved her in Office, Freaks and geeks, and most of all Stellas pilot.

The danger is that they'll stretch themselves too thin doing both shows at once. The super-sized episodes have already shown that the writers can run out of steam when asked to do too much.

I don't get how this will work.

    by mraig

Because Michael is the boss of "our" office, the humor centers around the fact that he is incompetent and tries to be funny but isn't, creating lots of awkward pauses because nobody knows how to respond to something so awful.

Since Rashida's character (1) is very competent at her job, and (2) has a good sense of humor, the format of the show will have to be completely different. I'm not saying that the only way an Office spinoff could be funny is if the boss acts like a doofus all the time. But without the awkward pauses, how will it really be "The Office"?

    Reply to Talkback

  • Let's face it - as great as most of us like the Office, it usually runs second behind Grey's Anatomy. I'm just not seeing the masses getting behind a spin-off of a show that isn't a huge hit in the first place. I predict NBC will snackcake this puppy after six weeks.

If they can get Rob Huebel on this show and Craig Bierko that would be awesome. No need for Paul Scheer, he can be like a cameo character a bunch like Todd Packer. Maybe Todd Packer will be the new boss. I hope they make this show to exsit in the same universe as The Office so there is some overlap. Maybe try some different styles, but pretty much just the office 2.0.

Rob Corddry be on this show. He is a blister on the taint of comedy. He's done one good thing (Bobby Dukes) and now he's just on repeat. It would be great if they could get an amazing cast for this. Get some lesser know stand ups say (Nick Griffin-He's on Letterman tonight watch him). Rather then just all improv people..... god I still can't see Rob Corddry not being on this show. Like I just know its going to happen.
