Learn Who Snagged The Paula Marshall Therapist Role On Rob Thomas’ CUPID Remake Pilot!!

Published at:  Jun 11, 2008 11:29:53 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Sarah Paulson, perhaps best known as Matthew Perry’s love interest on Aaron Sorkin’s “Studio 60,” will play psychoanalyst Claire Allen in “Cupid,” Rob Thomas’ pilot and intended remake of his own beloved but short-lived 1990s romantic comedy hourlong. Paula Marshall played Claire in the original.

Bobby Cannavale plays what used to be the Jeremy Piven role of Trevor Hale, who thinks he’s the god of romance.

Thomas also previously created and oversaw “Veronica Mars.”

    by chorleyfm

This role requires comedy, as well as some flirtatious romance. She is a very good dramatic actress, but she can't do anything else.

Yeah, I absolutely adored Studio 60, but...

    by danielkurland

was never big on Sarah Paulson at all. How she was the only one that received any sort of acting nomination for that show is beyong me. Whitford was amazing.

    Sarah Paulson

    by chiahead

Probably got a nom for S60 because she was standing next to Amanda Peet. At least I think she was, I stopped noticing Peet about halfway in. As for Cupid casting... Rob Thomas seems to have this knack for thinking up great ideas and then executing them like Dawson Leary. I firmly believe that without the talents of Enrico Colentoni and Kristin Bell, VM would have tanked way sooner than it finally did, under the weight of its own insidious mediocrity. And as much as I loved the Juliette Lewis and Holly Hunter impressions (that's sarcasm)- Sarah Paulson is no Kristin Bell.

I agree that it sounds suspect, but there's a difference between innovative and clever shows that never find and audience and are canceled (Cupid) and inane shit that somehow becomes successful and spends years dumbing down the audience, only to be finally put out of it's misery (Yes, Dear). My opinion anyway. Plus, I loves me some VM, so I am there regardless. Although, I'm less than thrilled about this casting; something about her just annoys me.

Maybe the networks should take failed television properties and combine them in an attempt to create repackaged success. Imagine potential hits such as "Journeycaveman" or "The Bionic Anchorwoman"...

Sorry, Snopuff...Paula Marshall Is Too Busy...

    by deandome

finding NEW shows to kill off to be bothered killing off one that she already killed off several years ago. Too bad, I've always liked her AND most of the shows she's killed off...but it's just too weird; every show she's on gets KILLED OFF!!! Pretty much the same thing w/Carla Gugino, but not nearly as many examples. BRAINSTORM!!!! Maybe if you cast Paula & Carla in the same show, their show-killing powers will combine & transmorgify into an unstoppable juggernaut of uncancellability!!?!! That...or everyone on the set will die a horrible death before they wrap up the pilot.

    by big bad clone

Yeah, I know she's a lesbian but she is scorchingly hot (I loves me some white women). And yeah she sucked on Studio 60, but that role was doomed from the start. Even if it was played by Kristen Chenoweth (who the character was based on) we'd still hate the character because the character was meant to be a pain in the ass. Every other line was "I'm the only Christian in Hollywood."

we dont need a remake yet. theres a direct to dvd movie coming later this year (with entire original cast except for patinkin, PLUS henry ian cusick...DESMOND!!!) if that does well, theres an outside chance we'll see more movies or possibly even a series rebirth.

    by rufus_t_firefly

Going against the grain, here. I am now officially listed as “interested.” Up ‘til now, I couldn’t see how you could approach (much less surpass) the casting of Piven/Marshall. This is a huge step in the right direction. That said, I’ still wished that you had the opportunity to continue with the original show. It needs to be on DVD. Now.

Rob Thomas can really pick 'em, can't he? Why didn't he just rehire Showkiller No. 1 Paula Marshall?! I really liked the original show, but I'm sure this is going to blow (and if picked up, last 6 episodes). A waste of Cannavale's time.

Actually I think Fenn's character had to be banished for the sake of the character. Trevor was tempted by her, but if he ever slept with her, he'd never get back into Olympus. So he had to push her as far away as possible.

Have I mentioned how much I loved this show. This could replace my Gilmore Girls gayness.
