Brace yourself America... Simon, Jess and Edgar preparing a SPACED tour!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We've talked a lot about SPACED here on the site. It's the real deal and if you haven't been lucky enough to have seen the original British show, never fear... we're getting Region 1 DVDs this summer with a shit-ton of new material on them, including friends and family commentaries from people like Tarantino and Matt Stone. But that's not all. Looks like Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes (not sure about Nick Frost) are headed on the road to pimp the DVDs. I know that they're planning an appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego as well as a showing in Austin and New York (details to be announced, soon hopefully). To kick it all off Edgar is doing a precursor solo event in LA as part of the Los Angeles Film Festival on the 24th of this month where they'll show 2 as yet undecided episodes and have Q&A moderated by South Park co-creator and hilarious mo-fo Matt Stone. Edgar has all the details on his MySpace blog here or you can click here to go directly to the ticket bookings at LAFF's website. I'm praying that I have some business in LA on the 24th so I have an excuse to see this thing... At the very least I plan on stalking everybody at Comic-Con. Enjoy, you LAers lucky enough to attend! I'll keep my ear to the ground on the Austin and NY Spaced events and let you know when I hear any more!

    OK, I'm There, Sight-Unseen

    by ArcherNX01

Haven't seen the series, but have been a big fan of the Wright/Pegg combo so far. So, I just bought the tix... now I need to make sure the Regent theater is the same one I'm thinking of in LA.

Spaced is perfect for this crowd

    by ebonic_plague

The references to Jar-Jar hate alone should win over anyone who knows what it means to talkback. I'd say this one lives up to the hype it gets around here. But then, Pondscum, if you don't recognize The Wire as the lord and savior of all of mankind's televised efforts thus far, and instead willingly practice idolatry, I'm not sure we're at all on the same page about hype.

    Not A BBC Show

    by Symposium

This was shown on Channel 4 in the UK. No wonder Americans think the BBC is so amazing when they see the logo on 99% of UK dvds. BBC Video is only distributing it in the states along with a whole host of other IP's.

Just for the Jar-Jar Binks rant. I am glad to finally get my hands on a legitimate DVD set.

it's not fair! it's not fair!

    by thinboyslim.

just realised that was the quote to use! "You don't understand! You weren't there at the beginning!"

  • June 11, 2008, 3:30 a.m. CST

    will it translate?

    by hoisin

I'm a Brit, living in London and love the show but can see lots of it being completely lost in translation as it makes its way over the Atlantic. Also a lot of the gags and movie references are a bit out of date after all this time. Pegg has more hair though. Great, innovative and funny series.

  • June 11, 2008, 3:31 a.m. CST

It's aimed at geeks of a specific age and background

    by V'Shael

which is why it will never become a mainstream hit.

Who the fuck is Jessica Hynes ?

    by barnaby jones

I think you mean Jessica Stevenson.

  • June 11, 2008, 4:35 a.m. CST

    Suff like the Kia-ora gag

    by Lost Jarv

surely won't translate but most of it is universal.

  • June 11, 2008, 4:55 a.m. CST

    re:barnaby jones

    by rorschach83

she got married, so her surname IS Hynes now. she doesnt go by stevenson any more. On "never mind the buzzcocks" with her on simon amstell spent every opurtunity he could mentioning her name change, which was funny in that way he of his.

  • June 11, 2008, 5:08 a.m. CST

She used Jessica Hynes when she

    by V'Shael

appeared on Doctor Who. <p> Something any geek / Spaced Fan should have seen.

    The only excuse for bootlegs

    by Wandering_Prophet

I have been waiting for this to come out on DVD forever. The first time I heard of it was on the SotD commentary, and after failing to track anything region 1, I stomached a download...Best moment of piracy ever! I showed it to all my friends and a large number of my fellow students, and based on that little bit of digital thievery, I can guarantee I've added several dozen people to the list of rabid american Spaced fans who are awaiting the chance to purchase it legitimately as much as I. It's about friggin time!

  • June 11, 2008, 9:30 a.m. CST

    Check out Nathan Barley, folks.

    by Knuckleduster

Really funny (and slightly fucked-up) britcom.

  • June 11, 2008, 10:02 a.m. CST

It's not the best show ever

That would be Father Ted but it is geekheaven.

    See, when you say "America..."

    by Roguewriter

... it leads me to foolishly imagine we could get those godly SPACED heroes here in Bumblefuck, Alabama. And then I remember Alabama barely even COUNTS as America. And then I curse you. And then I curse me. And then I curse SPACED, for being so damned good -- and so very, very far away. =(
