No Ken or Ryu in the STREET FIGHTER movie
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. DDog sent in a bit of information linking back to the official Streetfighter movie blog where the producers were asked if Ken or Ryu would appear. Nada. It's Chun Lee's flick, they say.

Sure, I played the hell out of the game when I was a kid... I remember spending weekends at the laundromat playing up Streetfighter because it was easier to get game time than fighting for it at the local arcade. But I'm pretty indifferent of a movie version. I'm sure with the right people it could be fun, but I could really care less who is in it and who isn't. Although, I'd love to see Blanka if they keep him more animal than green hairy man.

I would've had to give a shit about this movie in the first place to be disappointed by this news. -
should stay video games. they work in that universe but do not translate well to other mediums. the only possible exceptions I can think of are Final Fantasy or Metal Gear solid, and that's only because of all their highly cinematic moments. I just saw DOA the other day on a whim (on youtube for free, te only way I would ever consider seeing it) and it was terrible.

I am an enormous SF fan and I don't give a flying fuck about this movie. OK, so Gen and Nash are in it but not Ken or Ryu? BTW you would think that they would at least be faithful to Gen's actual character design instead of making him out to be all phony-baloney looking. SF is my favorite game series and I don't even give a shit. The games tell the story well enough. Seeing Kruek in a Chun-Li outfit might give me wood though. THEY ARE using her actual outfit from the games aren't they?!!!!

Who knew Ryu and Ken would not be in a movie called LEGEND OF CHUN-LI! You guys are ready for anal insertion from MARVEL yet you won't give CAPCOM a chance when they're trying to do the same fucking thing. If this movie succeeds then you bet your ass Ken & Ryu are coming. Then down the line you'll see the whole cast and crew together. It's not hard to figure out, stop shitting bricks.

Don't worry, they will have other movies...two others so far. One of the movies will deal with Shenlong, Gouki, Ken, Ryu, Dan, etc etc. -
Street Fighter IV is coming to an arcade, then a console, near you late this Summer/early fall. It's actually been generating a decent amount of interest in the gaming community. That said, no, there really is no outstanding demand for another movie based on the property (which really isn't conducive to film media anyway) to be made.

That's hilarious. You can tell how pissed off he is the whole thing blew up in his face. He seemingly claims the reason Gone was taken down was to shield impressionable fans of his 'works' from googling his name, being led to the talkbacks, and, gasp, being exposed to the dreaded word 'fuck.' In StreetFighter lore, Ryu has always been the central character. Always. That's just a fact. American film studios just seem so damn opposed to an asian lead. Give us a live-action StreetFighter TV series or something. A broader canvass to explore the SF universe.

It was also a really bad movie, yeah, but one of it's many problems is that it tires to kitchen sink every single character without a clear, single storyline to follow it. Making the movie about Chun Li and doing the Street Fighter tournament from her angle? That sounds like a better idea.

Having said that, I'd say it was just as much bullshit if say, Japan wanted to do Superman or the Fantastic Four. Some things simply shouldn't be done. An Anglo-friendly Akira is one of them. I don't want to see Kaneda and Tetsuo magically become white kids named Kenny and Tommy. Neo-Tokyo doesn't need to get transplanted to LA or Seattle or whatever city the internet is saying it's going to be this month. Otomo could have set the story somewhere else but he didn't. Akira takes place in Japan. The characters are Japanese. That's it. If the people proposing to remake this won't acknowledge that fact then I have no reason to believe they'll be faithful to the rest of the manga either.

And is it just me, or did Harry actually say he did not get paid for it...but the author in that response said he "has no knowledge" of whether money changed hands between Harry and the PR firm. That certainly doesn't exactly sound like the vehement denial I was expecting... -
