Original [REC] creative team back for [REC] 2! Poster here!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The original Spanish [REC] is one of my favorite horror films of the last few years. Everything that Romero tried to do in DIARY OF THE DEAD they actually succeed in doing with this movie. Of course, [REC] is being remade as QUARANTINE here (DO NOT WATCH THAT TRAILER, BY THE WAY... THEY GIVE AWAY EVERYTHING, INCLUDING THE LAST SHOT OF BOTH THE ORIGINAL AND THE REMAKE!), but the original filmmakers, Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza, are starting up their own sequel and DDog sent in the poster which looks to originate from Aullidos.com.
If you don't know the story, [Rec] follows a TV reporter on her "night with the fireman" puff piece story. This takes her and her cameraman into a building on a routine call... while inside the building it is quarantined and they are all trapped inside as we find out why it is being quarantined.
Frightening stuff, very smartly done and good god almighty Manuela Velasco is gorgeous. Have no idea what they'd do for a sequel, but if they bring even half of the scares it'll be a great movie. Here's the poster:

I resorted to torrenting it since it's not out here, but fuck, it was such a perfect horror film.
-
Quarantine looks awful. There's some really terrible acting in that trailer.
-
And Jennifer Carpenter ain't bad either, Quint. That girl can scream like a motherfuckin' banshee, too.<P>I have yet to see [REC]. Unfortunately, I have already seen the trailer for QUARANTINE. I guess they're both spoiled for me then, eh?
-
WHAT ARE YOU 11???? ANYHOW LOOKS INTERESTING...
-
Was a piece of shit.
-
ruled. Occasionally I remember that... that *thing* at the end, and it makes me shiver.
-
fucking Return key
-
it's pretty lazy to just throw that out there, i thought the lead actress was strong, best use of the CAM viewpoint in a while... and the film actually gave a detailed, ominous explanation for the the shit was happening...man fuck quarantine!
-
Damn You Michael Bay
-
So if someone warns you that a bear trap is right in front of you, and you step on it out of curiosity... the person that warned you about the bear trap is to blame? Interesting outlook you have.
-
....if we didn't know it was the last shot up until Quint said so? Inquiring minds....well I am sure inquiring minds have better things to do but still.
-
Stay strong Brotha!
-
How am I supposed to see [REC]? It's not on DVD... and I doubt if it'll be released here (the States) when a remake is in the can and a sequel to the original is already unway.
-
it's been on several film festivals (including Stockholm film festival last november) and it's also running theatrically in some countries since several weeks back.
-
The original is definitely in my top five horror films, and this will either just be worse or more of the same. As if a Host prequel and a Descent 2 wasn't enough.
-
How about you back up your stupid assertions with actual reasons? As for Gotham_night: Yeah the sequel looks like shit... based on the one poster so far that has been released for it... with no trailers or footage at all... retard.
-
It's effective and does what it's supposed to do.
-
It's tough to do a part 2 of such a minimalist movie and not come up with a completely different concept. This was all about the suspense and what's really upstairs. I won't hold my breath on this one but it'll still be better than the U.S. version.
-
They played it for one night only as part of a spanish film festival here in australia and i dragged my unsuspecting friends along withouth telling them anything about it or letting them read anything, after I had already seen it torrented. Man that was one of the greatest nights in the cinema I have ever had. This film worked wonders on the unsuspecting arthouse crowd hahahah.
-
And Diary's job was to effectively show Romero doesn't have what it takes to make an effective zombie flick anymore?
-
They know nothing about movies. Or much else. I usually have to drag them to see movies or trick them into watching something that EW didn't recommend. BUT they always have movie recommendations for me. LIKE hey you should see the Strangers! Even though I've told them I already did back when it was called Them. I really don't want to have to Torrant this movie but looks like I'll have to if I want to see it.
-
Last time I Torranted a scary movie it took around a year before I could convince my friends to watch it. And it was only because they finally saw the previews of the Descent on the tele.
-
I didn´t expect that.
-
i saw that in a cinema, which adds greatly to the scaryness, as some of the scenes work especially well if you are in the same darkness as the hapless protagonist (=beautiful female reporter).<p>But i have no problem with the remake, it would be great if the makers of the original make more money in the US, as they deserve it. But i think it very difficult to make a part 2 in the same style (POV/fake documentary) as the original, although the nasty background story could be explored more.
-
who torrented this. I'd pay to see that bad boy again in the cinema. The night-vision end totally runs rings around the already amazing bit in Silence Of The Lambs. I just hope this sequel doesn't feel the need to explain the thing at the end anymore than it did. That thing's creepier than the dwarf in Don't Look Now.
-
*spoilers* - The upshot of what happened? The boy in the loft? I just didn't get it!?
-
in the wrong place at the wrong time for a second time?
-
Wasn't a boy (although defo looked like one)- it was the girl the newspaper clippings and tape recordings were all about.
-
Oh! So who the f*** was that in the apartment itself then!!
-
Ah-aah-aaah! Now if only that eyeball on the poster was made as a bright red hologram with blacklight capability. Now we just need the synopsis for where they are taking up this 2nd effort and if it will conflict with Paco's horror film about killer clown(s). The US remake of [REC] seems to be trying too hard and what's up with giving away an entire movie in the trailer?
-
*SPOILERS* I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by the ending! So some sort of demonic posession was involved, which affected kids? But it wasn't explained very well... And who was the boy up in the attic!?
-
That made my day. Finally watched [REC] on the weekend and loved it. Then I watched the Quarantine trailer again and was disappointed to see what a scene for scene, line for line remake it seems to be. It lookes like they just grapped [REC]'s script, translated it and away they went. And WHY show that nightvision scene in the trailer?? Especially knowing there has to be some people out there who've seen [REC]! Oh well, that's Hollywood these days, it's mostly remakes now, not much originality left.
-
"DO NOT WATCH THAT TRAILER"<p>That's like saying "Do not touch the shiny red button." C'mon, how am I <i>not</i> supposed to watch it now?
-
and I haven't been scared by a horror for years and years. I'm only 20 too, for Gawd's sake. The 'end' as I shall call it to prevent any spoilerisms, freaked me out!!
-
HAven't seen the original, sounds like I'll have to go track it down, but I love the simplicity and basic symbol usage on the poster. Very effective me thinks.
-
One of the creepiest horror films to come out in the past few years. I wonder if the majority of the movie watching public (who, let's be honest, don't check sites like these) will even realize that Quarantine is a remake when it hits theaters? I would hope that the filmmakers at least acknowledge that this is a remake in their publicity for it, but we'll see.

Orixen Pharmaceuticals was working on some sort of experiment and somehow the Medeiros girl, possibly a guinea pig, got infected. She's is taken to a hospital where she eventually dies. While she was there, her unusual behavior was perceived by some to be some sort of demonic possession. Thus, the Catholic Church becomes interested in the matter and somehow snatches the corpse, finding out that the girl is not really dead. The Church wishes to rule out conclusively a demonic possession and decides to place her in the care of some religious scholar who spends many years looking for a cure in the form of a vaccine. He needs subjects to test it, including the boy in the attic, who is possibly the same boy in the medical dossier located on top of the old recorder. Those pictures are captioned "Before" and "After" with a visible improvement in the "After" pictures. Maybe that's why the boy, unlike the other subjects, doesn't die but rather develops some variant of the condition and gets locked up in the attic. Eventually, the scholar gets the order from Rome to terminate the girl after many years of studies (that's why she's a grown woman now) but since he probably doesn't know how to kill her he decides to follow some sort of ritual to lock her up. Remember when the two reporters are in the attic and they hear a loud noise which the man attributes to the old pipes? Maybe it was the sound of the "seals" being broken. How did the disease spread? Remember when the male reporter sticks the camera into the attic to see what was up there? I believe that, just before the boy comes on screen, you can see some a large hole at the bottom of the wall. Add either the little girl's dog, or the old lady's cats, and bingo bango, you've got yourself an outbreak.

...to watch on Google video for free. It contains subtitles and everything.
-
I was really impressed with it, and damn if that chick wasn't hot. I was shocked though by the remake trailer, not because it was any good(which it wasn't) but because of how blatantly they spoiled the movie.
-
That helps!
-
...because you knew it was a low budget film, and therefore what you were seeing was almost certainly NOT CGI!
-
I just finished watching {REC} (Thanks Torrent!) and was looking for a little bit in the way of explanation - that was perfect!
