I'm gonna see this definitely.

    Oh RLY?

    by Mr_X

    Ya RLy! hulk smash!!!!!!!!

  • June 2, 2008, 1:55 a.m. CST

what was so cool about that?

    by chaseguy17

Just seemed like a shorter version of the normal trailer. This movie seems to be spelled out in the trailers, and in my opinion (without actually seeing the thing) it looks rather generic. Looks like your typical Banner in hiding, fights military guys...but at the end gets caught by cheap shot. is imprisoned. new monster made...military needs his help...he fights new monster and kills it...and of course doesn't turn himself in and goes into hiding. possibly finds cure...but decides not to take it...because of how everyone he loved might have been killed if he got rid of the "gift" he was given. something stupid like that. I'd say that sums up the film...(without seeing it of course).

  • June 2, 2008, 1:56 a.m. CST

dont get excited about it chaseguy17

    by chaseguy17

Don't get me wrong...I could still see myself enjoying it. I hope i'm proven wrong and the trailers haven't spilled out what would seem to be a VERY VERY simpe plot. I don't like how the trailers seems to show each stage of the plot (except the conclusion of course). Pretty much makes everything expectable. Of course I hope I'm proven wrong.

  • June 2, 2008, 2:03 a.m. CST

Are Marvel trailers going to give away the entire movies in trai

    by happybunni

Usually if you see something that looks big in a movie trailer, it has little to do with the last half of the actual movie. But Marvel seems to be giving it all away now. How awesome would the Iron Monger VS Iron Man fight have seemed if we didn't literally see it coming? Same with this. Granted it's just a few seconds, but that's enough to take away the "WOW!" factor of seeing the actual movie.

i like to do to the double and fuck my sexy lady friend in the cinema whilst watching the hulk and do it whilst wearing my Mexican wrestlers mask. torrent that cam uploaders! Not really sure what the fascination is with the hulks cock is though. is this the new aicn saying like damm you Micheal bay or kurt Russel laughing? " i want to see the hulks cock!" doesnt really have the same ring to it. Unless it is of course a massive green cock ring.

    by LUZER

    pretty slick

  • June 2, 2008, 2:10 a.m. CST

    Nothing new..

    by LockesLOSTkidney

There's nothing in this trailer that isn't in the worldwide cinema trailer. So what's the big deal?

I'm looking forward to the Hulk as much as the next fairly interested guy..but there's nothing particularly enlightening about this trailer as far as I can see.

  • June 2, 2008, 2:10 a.m. CST

    by RedwingsHoolihan

I just have to be patient and wait three days for the kick-ass screening. I might freeze myself like Eric Cartman.

  • June 2, 2008, 2:11 a.m. CST

    on a serious note

    by Mr_X

the clips i've seen of this movie in all the trailers and bits out there , make me think this movie is going to be awesome and the one that marvel should have put out a couple of years ago. it was genius to have aspects of the tv series as a basis for this movie. i just hope that cgi becomes better over the next couple of years that we could have an intelligent hulk speaking throughout the movie. anyhow.. mustn't get my hopes up too much. i still think this movie will do really well

  • June 2, 2008, 2:12 a.m. CST

    Yeah, the trailer was okay.

    by DerLanghaarige

But not more. And this comes from someone who really wants to like it.

And harry is now officially an idiot

  • June 2, 2008, 2:24 a.m. CST

    I think...

    by JethroBodine

:::whispers quietly to everyone but Harry, as to not startle him:::: I think Harry had a MPAA funded LO BO TO MY a few weeks back insted of weight loss surgery. Now he is finally COMPLETELY uninhibited to LOVE everything thats on the screen without question, regardless of whether or not it's of merit, originality, or quality.

  • June 2, 2008, 2:26 a.m. CST

and that hulk intro was much better then the spidey one

by Mr_X who the hell can remember that tune!

  • June 2, 2008, 2:26 a.m. CST

    Did I miss something?

    by Fleet

There wasn't anything special about that at all... Harry might have a newfound love and appreciation for all things now that his life is slowly getting back on track - But that was pretty much the same old tired shit they've been peddling for the Hulk from the beginning...

  • June 2, 2008, 2:26 a.m. CST

You know, I come to this site now and then...

    by kuldan

...and I've learned that when Harry gets reeeally excited about something, he is, once again, blowing it waaaay out of proportion (just like my drawn out spelling of particular words) and totally over-hyping it. It's over-enthusiasm like this that makes so many people begin to hate movies. There's no surprise when your expectations are set too high. Very rarely do any movies ever live up to them (except, lately, the "Lord of the Rings" films).

  • At least with the Ang Lee version (which I quite liked and don't fucking care who knows it) we were given a new take and a very good visual style. You might not have liked it but then again a film that pleases everyone would A) be boring as fuck and B) most likely end up looking like this one. Colour me unimpressed so far. Hope Im wrong 'cos I likes me some Hulk action but these trailers aren't making me geek out in any way.

  • after that i fucking went blind. so harrys happy about this trailer, and everyone isnt well what a miserable bunch of cunts you all are. whether its a collective * meh* or a " fucking a!" why so serious?

  • June 2, 2008, 2:43 a.m. CST

Mr_X, my opinion on Lee's version irrelevant...

    by Gabba-UK

but I think we can all agree that this trailer is very 'meh' for lack of a better term. Plus Harry's new found enthusiasm for all things average is the reason why many here are happy to read his reviews but take no notice of them as critiques of movies.

    Hulk animation in 5..4..3..2..

  • June 2, 2008, 2:51 a.m. CST

    by Laughing Irishman

Apparently, all but three of you missed the point. What rocked Harry's socks wasn't the intro itself but in the way it was done, like the Old School TV show. That was very GEEKtastic. Hence the damned Headline to the article. Pay Attention Class.

  • June 2, 2008, 2:52 a.m. CST

ya....incredible...if you thought the tv show was

    by bacci40

    by WelcoMatt

  • June 2, 2008, 2:59 a.m. CST

allow me to explain why neither bixby, bana or norton

    by bacci40

work as banner...and ya, i know enuf people grew up on bixby...but i dont give a shit...banner is the 99 lb weakling from the charles atlas ads they used to put in the comics...he a puny the idea that he might want to stay as the hulk makes the idea that the hulk hates the banner persona, makes the idea that the fan boy gets a woody cuz betty digs the banner persona, makes sense...but christ, bixby, bana and norton can get all the took they want...they dont need to be the hulk to be a sorry for playing the fanboy role, but i had to do it...marvel still doesnt get what made the hulk popular...but kirby did...ya, this will make money...the kids will want more...there will be a sequel...and maybe then we will hear the hulk say "HULK SMASH"...btw, the scene with the hulk cuddling next to betty looks like a rip from king kong

Did Harry post the right videos?

    by Gilkuliehe

Cuz I honestly can't tell what was so different in those trailers from the old ones, as to give such an impact on Harry. I'm going with what Laughing Irishman said, but if that's true, well, Harry's intro still has like a fifty hundred hyperboles too many.

  • June 2, 2008, 3:10 a.m. CST

I also liked Ang Lee's Hulk. I don't own the DVD but it wasn't so bad as some of the retards here like to bash it. At least it tried something new. This Hulk I predict will go well at the start but then all the basement dwellers will start crying and going on about Hulk not green enough, nipples and flames... Good gawd some of you will never be happy...

Agree on the gamma bomb and Rick Jones! "I'm Rick Jones, bitch!"

    by Steve Rogers

I have tentative hopes for this one as I think Norton is *perfect* casting for Banner. Spot on. However I do always feel a bit let down that the movies throw away the fantastic set piece of the gamma bomb explosion. Yeah, it's a bit '60s but so what? Update it! Imagine how tense that could be, the scene with the countdown and Bruce trying to save Rick and the saboteur not shutting off the bomb. Awesome stuff - tense, nail-biting, and it culminates in a gigantic fucking explosion! Banner just sitting in a chair is boring (I don't care if Bill Bixby did it). Not sure yet whether it will be more boring/dumber than Ang Lee's 'standing in front of a doohickey' origin though.

  • June 2, 2008, 3:35 a.m. CST

i have mixed feelings about this

    by captainbritain

as the old adage goes, how could a film by the kid behind the sequel to the transporter be better than an ang lee flick?!?! it does look promising tho.

  • June 2, 2008, 3:37 a.m. CST

    Use a dictionary

    by Lloytron

Look up the word 'Incredible'. It does not mean 'average'. Whoo its The Average Hulk.

After the past trailer and clip blitz this is looking pretty goo

    by KillaKane

Really pleased that they've alligned this Hulk movie with the 70's TV show, even better to hear that classic theme. Loved the action clips, this could be another Iron Man, I hope so as the Hulk has the potential for a truly ass-kickin franchaise.

  • June 2, 2008, 3:37 a.m. CST

Why is this better than the others?

I just don't get it. Or agree.

  • June 2, 2008, 3:45 a.m. CST

    Looks good to me

    by Franklin T Marmoset

The Hulk. Good. Ed Norton. Good. Liv Tyler. Good. William Hurt. Good. Crazy as shit Louis Leterier ludicrous action shenanigans. Great!
I'm looking forward to this one quite a bit. Not as much as Hellboy 2, maybe, but I reckon it could be a lot of fun. Also, it will make all the CGI whiners pop a vein and post long, angry rants about shaders and whatnot. Those posts are always funny to read.

  • June 2, 2008, 3:50 a.m. CST

Hmm, a hommage to the old TV-show

    by Roderich

with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferringo i presume?
I did not see that, nor did many people outside the US, so your excitement is, er, confusing for us poor fellows...

  • June 2, 2008, 3:57 a.m. CST

    Harry, I've gotta say...

    by Kirbymanly

This most likely seems a bit better than the trailers they're been showing due to nostalgia reasons than anything else. I grew up with The Hulk t.v. show as well but the trailer is just rehashed bits from older versions with a "people in their 30's will get this" kick.

  • June 2, 2008, 3:59 a.m. CST

The Incredible Hulk looks Incredibly boring

    by warphoenix

Why must superheroes movies have the heroes fight 'evil' versions of themselves again and again? E.g. Spiderman vs Venom, Iron Man vs Iron Man mk1, Hulk vs 'super soldier experiment gone haywire'. MARVELous!

  • June 2, 2008, 4:12 a.m. CST

What the hell, I've seen all this already

    by NomoredirtyjokespleaseweareYanks

except for that cheesy ass voice-over.

Roderich....the old shows are on line

    by bacci40

i suggest you check them out..all but the one where the hulk fights thor...basic story...david banner (tv execs thought bruce was too gay) is a genetic scientist experimenting with gamma rays...experiment goes bad...turns him into the hulk...everyone thinks that the hulk killed keep his secret, banner becomes david jansen and goes on a road trip looking for the one armed man...however, every show someone has to piss him off, and he becomes lou ferigno...amazingly, no matter what the color of banners pants, when lou shows up, the pants always change to theyre extra stretchy too...the line "you wouldnt like me when im angry" comes from the show, not the comic...oh, and a cop....errrr.. nosy reporter is chasing the fugitive....errr... banner around the country...y'see...i was really hoping that this movie was going to be following the bruce jones storyline...which may have been the best since the kirby/lee days...but now, it doesnt look like it....too bad

  • June 2, 2008, 4:21 a.m. CST

I can't believe Hulk Redux looks as SHITTY as the 1st.

    by Pixelsmack

I mean does Hollywood just NOT get Hulk? This looks as shitified as the first floppy tit they dumped on us.

  • June 2, 2008, 4:21 a.m. CST

    Homage my ass...

    by blckmgk13

especially since only the you tube version worked, it seemed like a fan dubbed/edited trailer made to look corny. If I saw that in the theatre regardless of the nostalgic factor that maybe the geek projectionist gets and one other fat dude in the audience would appreciate, the rest of the world would be, WHAT THE SHIT WAS THAT?

  • June 2, 2008, 4:32 a.m. CST

that just instantly made me 9 years old again

    by ian216a

And that was just the funky lab chair and the green crosshair light. Took me back nearly 30 years to the first time I saw them. Very cool.

  • June 2, 2008, 4:33 a.m. CST

Still doesn't look like the HULK

The movie looks great but I really don't like the Last shot of him walking towards camera flewing his muscles like he's totally aware of his stature which looks more like a Pro Bodybuilder? Maybee they were going for the Lou Feringo look coz he was just a green painted Body Builder but the comic book HULK is as wide as he is tall! really Huge arms, really wide neck, really obvious in stature and you can guess who it is just from looking at a shilouette!!! They seemed to 'get' the look in the concept art but haven't followed it through into the movie unless it's just that one shot and they've fixed it.
Anyway, I still can't wait!

  • June 2, 2008, 4:50 a.m. CST

    Is it true....

    by KnightEternal

that Ed norton has distanced himself from this film now? or was that jus gossip?

  • June 2, 2008, 5:10 a.m. CST

    No Rick Jones = fail

    by messi

Rick Jones was the heart of the Hulk's character. So making it an experiment rather than an accident born out of nobility changes everything.

  • June 2, 2008, 5:14 a.m. CST

    on another tangent

    by NomoredirtyjokespleaseweareYanks

i have been waiting to post my thoughts on Indy 4, as the first time I saw it I was on acid and felt conflicted. I realised many if not all of the faults many posters have accused it of were right there on the screen. I therefore went back straight, and I gotta tell ya, apart from the monkey swing, I felt it flowed much better. Although I love the phrase 'nuked the fridge' I actually bought it more the second time. Heck, even the 'three drops' played better. I am going one more time on thursday and I will then post my definitive review. I just hope it holds up or(pray) gets better.

  • June 2, 2008, 5:17 a.m. CST

    Hulk's got an awkward walk

    by Lance Rocke

Is it just me? Every time I see that animation of him walking toward the camera, he looks stiff, like a marionette. Running looks good. Walking? Not so much.

    can somebody explain?

    by kungfuhustler84

first video didn't work. the second one did. was the second one the same thing as the first but on youtube? was that second video what Harry was so excited about?

    by NomoredirtyjokespleaseweareYanks

otherwise it was the most pointless cool news ever.

  • June 2, 2008, 5:46 a.m. CST

Why Was That The Best Trailer?

    by LaserPants

I actually thought the last one looked better. Either way, this looks really good. I liked the part where he's lookin' at Liv Tyler, and then the machines green light pushed her out of the frame. Like, "HERES YOUR NEW GIRLFRIEND, BILL BIXBY (er,. I mean, David, that is to say Bruce Banner)!!! THE GREEN LIGHT OF THE HULKS RAMPAGING ANGER!!!"

I think there should be a scene where HULK, angry and horny, rapes a Tiger, Buffalo, or Elephant. It would also be great if when he transformed, he was buck naked instead of wearing purple shorts. Imagine all the jokes you could have as he ran down the street and all the women sighed and smiled or gasped. You'd also have to shoe-horn in some stereotyped hyper flamboyant gay men doing the same.

  • June 2, 2008, 5:50 a.m. CST

    whats with Hulks stiff-ass walk.

    by NomoredirtyjokespleaseweareYanks

Robocop had a more natural walk, and he had a carrot up his ass.

  • June 2, 2008, 5:54 a.m. CST

    Yeah, not Incredible at all.

    by GivenToFly

I love comic book movies and will give most of them a chance, but this does not excite me one bit. The fact that the filmakers are just pretending the last one never happened really gives me the shits. It was far from perfect but it shows that these studio's will stab their filmmakers in the back the second it starts to underperform or gets a negative reaction form some corners. Also, I once thought Ed Norton was cool but now all I see is a skinny, my-shit-don't-stink prima donna who needs a serious reality check.

  • June 2, 2008, 5:55 a.m. CST

    So that was ALL.

    by kungfuhustler84

I got the little homage, but it's the same material from the other trailers spliced a different way, with an incredibly corny voice over. I'm excited for this movie, but that was not exciting. The whole point of cinema is to tell a story without necessarily relying on using words, so how is a trailer with a voice over superior in terms of impact to one that can tell the same story without simply resorting to exposition? In my opinion, that trailer was created to tailor to the less intelligent audiences who can't simply deduce the basic plot any other way than having it spelled out for them. Weak.

  • June 2, 2008, 5:59 a.m. CST

    The other trailers were better

This one leads the viewer by the hand through the Hulk's back story narrated by the "In A World" guy. Yawn

    by NomoredirtyjokespleaseweareYanks

but I thought Ang Lee's hulk was sublime. I know it's hated but quite frankly the visual uniqueness and Nolte's performance blow me away everytime. I have had a projector for three years, and outside of Lawrence of Arabia and 2001, Hulk is my most viewed film.

Now, if I had made this movie.............

    by Half-Baked-Goggle-Box-Do-Gooder

.........the Abomination would show up after Banner had already been captured. The team of Army surgeons and physisists, attempting to isolate Banner's transformative ability, accidentally kill him, and the Abomination goes on to destroy the fucking world, which does seem to be his only motivation. All in the first half hour. Then another two hours of nothing but TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION, Abomination-style. No plot, no hope for a happy ending, no last-minute miracle, just mayhem.
I know that some members of this board can relate to that.

  • June 2, 2008, 6:10 a.m. CST

    that's right Harry...

I liked the Ang Lee movie and I also use to enjoy the TV show.. but the "accident" scene in both really were bleh to me. I want to see that moment, I want to see that moment where Doc Manners body is just frozen beng writh in pain as he has caught in that explosion. I can understand for a couple of reason for not using a bomb..but maybe due someting else like a Gamma Reactor that the 1996 Cartoon series did.

    It's nice to see...

    by Sledge Hammer

...that all it takes to get positive buzz on AICN is free invited to the editing room, and a complimentary screening in Texas. I mean hey, I hope the film is good, I really do, but you can hardly trust the opinion of a site whose positive hyping seems directly in proportion to the amount of free shit they get.

    The television origin is inferior

    by Chewtoy

It sucks that they've gone back to the television origin, if this trailer is accurate, as that had no resonance. In the comic, Bruce uses his God-given genius to create a weapon of mass destruction for the military, and is punished by becoming one himself, hunted by his country and losing his great intellect each time it happens. In the TV show he sat in a chair peacefully trying to cure disease, and is turned into a monster for it. Random and shallow.

  • June 2, 2008, 6:42 a.m. CST

AICN is fuck dead right now. I guess there has been a serious lack in cool news. Those t24 hour talkback numbers are teensy weensy.

  • June 2, 2008, 6:51 a.m. CST

If they had used different footage...

by pacheco.BC would have been much better. This trailer should have been released earlier, and made with more original footage. Instead, it feels like a retread, and you can barely tell what they're trying to do with it. Good idea, bad execution. Adding the trailer title cards at the end REALLY ruined it.

  • June 2, 2008, 6:56 a.m. CST

Couldn't they come up with new music?

    by abovo

Did they have to copy the crappy seventies music? I sure that they copied some shots of the original show too. For example, the green cross hairs moving across Banner's face. I don't know, but I was hoping for something a lot different.

Ang Lee Hulk origin was lame, too...

    by Kid Z

...Bruce's father experiments on himself, has a mutant kid, who he experiments on some more, then kills his wife, Bruces mom, Bruce gets adopted by some people called the Krenzlers, grows up to become a scientist, invents some kind of nanobot medicine-delivery system wherein you have to zap everything with gamma rays to make it work, but it still explodes frogs like a 12 year old George W. Bush on a Dr. Pepper and Pixie Stix bender in possession of a box of M-80s, but his assistant gets stuck in the nano-med gamma room so Bruce uses his body to cover the gamma zapper thingie and a bunch of flashbulbs go off... Not a bad trailer, but I agree with Gotham Night: they kind of gave everything away. I pretty much know what's going to happen now, whereas before it left a few things open.
Oh well. I really like Ed Norton, so I hope this film kicks ass. But the fact Norton pulled himself out of all publicity for it worries me a bit. He might know something the rest of us don't know yet.

Rickey can edit a home made trailer for Indy IV with Mutt getting hit in the groin with the theme from "Chariots of Fire" playing in the background and it still wouldn't improve upon the movie.

Ang Lee's Hulk sucked because Eric Bana sucks. Now that I know he got his start in acting as a comedian I know why all of his movies sucked. Like I saw Chopper and thought he was alright in it, and like him Black Hawk Down. But now that he gets leading roles in drama/action movies he sucks. He was on Leno, and I was surprised how funny he was. He went on to explain how he started out as a stand up comedien and now even he is surprised at all the dramatic roles he gets offered and he just takes them. Pretty much admiting that he sucks but he likes the pay check. The dude pretty much only has one facial expression. And he's been in a bunch of movies now but still no one knows who he is, unless you say the guy who played the old Hulk. And if you talk to the average Jo, they'll probably think that it is the same guy who is playing the new Hulk.

I wonder if voice over man gets to see every movie he does the trailer's for? Probably not. I bet he works like 1 day a week, just comes in hung over, gets handed a cup of coffee and a piece of paper with everything they need to record today, take a piss, hits on the recording studio secretary, falls asleep, get awoken by the bitch errand boy, yells at the errand boy for waking him up, goes in the recording booth and reads all the lines on the piece of paper, leaves before he even finds out if it was good enough, is home and drunk again by 12. And in that whole time made more money then you and I combind will probably make in the next 5 years. (I don't think he gets paid in the millions, plus there are a couple of voice over guys).

I wouldn't be surprised is Universal is doing shit like that, after that fire there movies are going to have to catch fire this summer to recoup the movie and the damages. And NON of there movies are sure things, Hulk is probably the closest one to a sure hit but its going to have to beat out a talking animal dreamworks movie, which has costed peoples lives in the past. Oh and a Adam Sandler movie...Man this is like ROTS year all over again. Big box office hype movie (Indy) then a Sandler/Dreamworks combo, and a Louis Leterrier movie all in the same box office top ten. HMMMMMM.

    by rhcp2sweet

A week after Moriarty visits the Hulk editing suite and raves about what he saw, Harry had to make sure he wrote an article that professed his love for a movie that hasn't come out yet. Gee, I wonder if Harry will give a positive review? (Excerpt from Harry's future Hulk review): "When the Hulk hit the Abomination for the first time, I cried tears of joy while drinking chocolate covered pussy juice with a boner."

    by dr sauch

I don't think that Bana was bad at all. In that movie, he was suppossed to play an academic, a research scientist. As a research scientist myself, I can tell you that he embodied many of the traits I see in a lot of the people I work with. He is certainly not a superstar, but his subtle style was perfect in belying the rage just beneath the surface in Bruce Banner. I think Lee's was poorly received because non-hulk fans were expecting what Norton's film will deliver, mindless HULK SMASH! scenes with some novelty plot thrown in, and Hulk die-hards were expecting the storyline to mirror the comics, which it did not. It played like a weird art film dealing with issues ranging from memory, repression, destruction/power of nature, and scientific corruption.

Still looks better than Ang Lee's Hulk

    by Darksider

The old tv show worked despite everything it had going against it. It makes since that they would tap into that. The Hulk looks a hell of a lot better than the tall pouty green muscular child that was in the first one. He doesn't look like Hulk from the books still, but it's definitely an improvement. I'm willing to bet that with the cast involved, we won't be seeing that much of the Hulk anyway. Like the show, it would be more about Banner on the run while trying to find a cure. But he has to stop every now an then to kick someone's ass.

    by nexxus7

All of the footage has been shown in other trailers. The editing of this one is actually quite sloppy, and the narration is regional at best and amateurish at worst. To me it looks clearly homemade, because I could certainly do it on my PC with one of the local narrators providing VO. In a couple of days someone will probably jump out from behind the curtain and take credit for it.

I own Transporter and Transporter 2...not for the paper thin plot or the average acting...but because of the kickass action. They are kickass action flicks, and Hulk needs a kickass action director to helm this flick.
The reason people like Harry love this trailer (myself included) is because we remember being in our jammies on the floor after our nightly bath wathching Hulk on CBS, and this was essentially saying 'Remember how kickass the Hulk was when you were a kid? Remember how they dealt with characters and made a kickass show?' And I say, yeah, I remember, and this was fucking sweet. It would be better in an official Quicktime format or even flash. I'm looking forward to this version of the Hulk, because I happen to like the director's vision of action and the screenwriter's sensibilities (Ed Fucking Norton). This is going to be a sleeper, I bet, I think it's gonna do Iron Man business out there after next weekend all the way to Dark Knight.

but it will no doubt appeal to the people who thought that Ang Lee's film was too "arty"

  • June 2, 2008, 12:30 p.m. CST

    by micturatingbenjamin

Look, you know who 'the people' you're talking about are? The fucking majority of filmgoers who gave his flick a pass, and made it worth fifty cents on Amazon.
It will no doubt appeal to a broader filmgoing audience, because it's not as 'arty' (your word)...Or as I'd say, it's not as dense, obtuse, and deliberately oblique as Ang Lee's beautifully flawed version. Lee failed. Fail, fail, fail. It was a failure on all counts, except with people who want to be seen as 'intellectual' or 'in the know' or 'film buffs'.
Ang Lee's version didn't suck, it just wasn't what the public wanted OR EXPECTED from a Hulk movie. It's like someone saying, 'Hey! Let's have an ice cream sundae!' and you say 'Sure! Fuck yes, I do like me some ice cream!' Then, they sit you down, and give you a steaming bowl of wheatgrass and brussels sprouts.
Sure one is WAY better for you than the other, but shit, everyone went into Lee's Hulk thinking 'Ice Cream Sundae' and got 'Steamy pile of Wheatgrass and Brussels Sprouts'.
In short, Lee's Hulk = Fail, and Letterier's Hulk FTW.

Don't flame me, I love FIGHT CLUB and AMERICAN HISTORY X, shit I even like the guy in that Richard Gere attorney movie, but for the past years I've only been annoyed by the guy. He just seems a total ASSHOLE. Remember that heist movie with "the biggest three actors of all time"? Yeah, me neither. Or how about his I'm-the-bad-guy-fear-me role in THE ITALIAN JOB? And man don't get me started on THE ILUSIONIST... He seemed to be completely out of that movie, like he didn't give a shit. Oh yeah, the Spike Lee one wasn't bad... Still, I just don't like the guy. Why all the Ang Lee hate? I'll tell you why...

by the dolphins are in the jacuzzi

Ang Lee made a version that was designed to appeal to the art-house crowd (you know, those obnoxiously self-important people with an abundance of education and a deficit of intelligence). That target audience loved Ang Lee's version precisely because it sucked the life and the fun out of the story and made it into an empty exercise in intellectual navel-gazing. This also assured that no one else would like it, and that made it even cooler because then the intellectual crowd could tell themselves that they were the only ones who "got it." But more to the point, a Hulk movie should be a primal, raging beast of a movie as befits the character himself - more thunderous than ponderous. At least this version looks to have gotten that part right. I'll reserve my judgement until I see the finished product, but I, for one, say, "Fuck Ang Lee."

    by TheEleventhDoctor

Obviously they took cues from the television show for the sake of nostalgia. This should be right in my generational wheelhouse, being as how I turn 31 this year, but "Hulk SMASH!" Hulk (to me) is boring and the television show even more so. I couldn't stand it as a kid and hate it more now. When I first started reading comics, Peter David was just getting into the Joe Fixit arc. The Hulk as a grey skinned, Italian suit wearing, perpetually pissed off bodyguard for a shady casino owner? Oh, now you're talking. Even better was the introduction of "The Professor" Hulk - Banner's intelligence, Moron Hulk's strength, Joe Fixit's attitude. That's the Hulk I want to see. A real character, not this monosyllabic, dumber than an MSNBC pundit bullshit.

Also- While watching this trailer makes me feel like I'm in elementary school, watching the Hulk all summer long; being on this THREAD makes me feel like I'm in Kindergarten, with all these IDIOTS poking fun incoherently, teasing, mocking, and generally grossing me out with their sheer lack of Hygiene & INTELLECT. In your post to micturatingbenjamin, you expressed indignation at someone "generalizing human beings [namely you] you don't even know," and in your previous post to me, you took pains to point out that you weren't an "art house fag." Now, I've known many art house fans (most of whom were insufferable), and there didn't seem to be any clear-cut sexual preference, just a penchant for pretentiousness. But for someone who hates judgment (enough to even make it part of his username), the whole "art house fag" comment seems a little hypocritical, doncha think? Not hatin'; just sayin'.

    FF movie and Ang Lee

    by Series7

I'm sorry I have seen most of Ang Lee's films save for his most recent and his Merchant Ivory wannabe Jane Austen thing. And I really just don't get all the praise. I just don't buy any of the performences he gets out of his actors, they all seem way to fake and just reading a script. I just never feel or really give a shit for any of the characters in his movies. Save for the Dawsons Creek girl in Brokeback.
As for the Fan Four movies, I always thought that as a comic there wasn't much depth and it all seemed kind of lame. So I thought the movie protrayed that, though Doom sucked, good casting choice I thought, but i think its going to be hard to not see him as Dr. Troy, ever. He needs to realize he'll only be suited for serial killer roles.

    1. they didnt have much money in the 1980's to do effects properly and CGI was invented until the late 1990's. 2. The series had a moral story running through each epissode. So you cant compare then with now and the tv series was huge and was syndicated around the world. Wow. You were wrong on almost every single point you made. I started reading Hulk comics around age 10 (1979) and continued until about age 18. I never saw Meet the Spartans. I was also a longtime FF fan and was hugely disappointed by both movies, and as a casual Daredevil fan, I was very meh on that movie as well. I also, for the record, have voted Democrat for almost every election in the past 20 years (except in some local elections where no Democrat is running, in which case I either try to find a Libertarian or abstain). Some of the superhero movies I like are: Superman (the original), X-Men 2, Batman Begins, Spiderman 2, Hellboy, and more recently, Iron Man. These are all movies that manage to balance drama and dynamic action without tipping too far in either direction. Ang Lee's Hulk went to far into navel-gazing, existential ennui, which, by the way, was nothing like the old TV show (which I also watched). The drama in that show was usually acted out, rather than discussed, as it was in the incredibly tedious Ang Lee version. No comparison.

    nostalgia for the original show

    by troutpencil

I just cannot approve. That show was boring. I guess there is some value in a generic wandering hero helping with a new cast's problems each episode show mixing it up by having the main character mutate into a green bodybuilder at some point each episode. I would've liked to see Chuck Connors turn into a dragon in "Branded," but really, that style of show was boring, and the Hulk show sucked somewhat terribly, just as bad as "The A-Team" or "Starsky & Hutch."
And am I the only person who hates the shit that they are pushing about this movie? That Bruce Banner is constantly "searching for a cure"? Can you imagine a whole series of movies where the lead character just searches the whole time? Wouldn't that be fucking boring? He's always looking for one thing, on the run, and sad. Like in the tv show. Probably like in the comic book. To me that sounds unspeakably dull.

what is navel-gazing - in spite of all of you bullet points, you still dont like ang lee's hulk? - wow - ive been reading hulk comics since around 1970 (when i was 5), so whatever - you will excuse my previous vitriol, but i dont like being anonymously attacked and pegged as some kind of fruit for liking a movie that the overwhelming majority didnt get (and by "didnt get" i dont mean "didnt understand" narratively speaking) - at the risk of sounding juvenile, you started it by saying among other things "Ang Lee made a version that was designed to appeal to the art-house crowd (you know, those obnoxiously self-important people with an abundance of education and a deficit of intelligence). That target audience loved Ang Lee's version ..." - thats a real asshole-thing to say - i hate american idol, but i wouldnt paint all of its fans as short sighted morons with no taste (while im sure some exsist)

the tv show premiered in 1978

it became a hit in the 1970s - and ran on through the 1980s - and in my opinion started to tank around 1980 - the first season is the best of the series

    Not too cool...

It really looks no better than the previous debacle. The effects are still weak with the green skin tones. Very fake looking, and the story is just...tired. Hopefully I'm wrong. But for some reason, I believe Harry also enjoyed Indiana Jones 4. I'm thinking a bit of the $186 million dollar budget went to critics pockets.

I admit my comment was pretty antagonistic and baiting, so I'll cop to deserving all the flak I've gotten, but I never called anybody a "fruit." In fact, I called krushjudgment to task on the derogatory use of the term "art fag," so don't lump me into the homophobic crowd. I just hate Ang Lee's Hulk because, in my opinion, it was unbearably pretentious, like most art films I've seen, and many of the same people I know who like art films liked Ang Lee's Hulk. I also happen to think that the acting was pretty dreadful (somebody on this thread mentioned that Eric Bana was originally a comedian, not a dramatic actor, and that makes sense). And it seemed very much to me that many of the people who liked this movie liked it because it was "daring/different," but not because it was good or well-acted. But hey, as Mark Twain said, "Difference of opinion is what makes a good horse race," or in this case, a talkback. JMO.
