Images And Lowdown On LOST Scribe Javier Grillo-Marxuach’s Comic-To-Series MIDDLEMAN!!

Published at:  May 31, 2008 4:34:46 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Javier Grillo-Marxuach, who served as writer and supervising producer on the Emmy-winning first season of “Lost,” has created a new sci-fi show, “Middleman,” based on his comic-book series and rocketing toward ABC Family June 16. It’s about a (really hot) geek girl who finds herself sucked into a top-secret agency that contends with sci-fi menace.

I’m all excited about it because my pal, the fabulous and fabulously talented Sarah Watson, has been hired as a writer-producer on the project and penned the first not-pilot episode. Others on the writing staff include the great Hans Beimler (“Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), Tracey Stern (“Sports Night,” “Angel”) and Jordan Rosenberg (who wrote the Goth Claire episode of “Lost”).

Natalie Morales plays the geek girl.

“The Speaker” seems all excited about the project as well, and is determined to help us learn more:

I don't know how interested you are in The Middleman, but the creator (Javier Grillo-Marxuach or just Javi) wrote some of the best LOST episodes back during S1 and he's been interviewed by the assholes here and here.

So, just in case you are -- I thought I'd give you the guided tour of where to get all the good stuff on the show.

The Middleblog is a LiveJournal updated by Javi himself. It's mostly behind the scenes pictures and some funny anecdotes about the creation of the series as it happens.

Middlefan has all the normal info you'd expect from a fansite, including a spoiler section that collects show information from the middleblog, articles, and casting sides.

And the ABC Family site is actually pretty good. A lot of show sites kind of suck, but this one is brand new and already has a couple videos of Javi explaining his universe and showing clips.

Thanks!

Speaker

P.S. - You might see my name a couple of times somewhere on any or all of the sites mentioned. That's because I've been a fan of "The Middleman" and Javi for years now, which came before my involvement with any of the mentioned sites. So my motive is purely to get as many people as possible to watch the pilot and hope they love it as much as I do.

P.P.S. -

Matt Keeslar is the Middleman.
Natalie Morales (not THAT one!) is Wendy Watson
Mary Pat Gleason is cranky android Ida
Brit Morgan is Wendy's roommate Lacey
Jake Smollett is oasis of calm Noser

    Chicks in Black

Doesn't look much different does it?
What is the limit for Family channel humor? Fart jokes? Vomit?
I would rather see this on USA. Better yet FX.
Does Pat Robertson still receive any subsidies from Family Channel?

Looks like a Men in Black ripoff...

    by googamooga

Oh wait, is that too obvious? I'm sorry. In that case, it just looks like ass.

    Les McClaine is cool...

by i am the most horrible

...and he has a cool sketchblog called evilspacerobot.com
He's one of the proud, comics-infused citizens of Stumptown, and we're proud of him.
Nice going Les! I look forward to this show.

It has about as much in common

    by speaker 815

with Men in Black as any other show that involves aliens. The Middleman and Wendy don't even work for the gummit.

Tonally it's got more in common with Doctor Who and it hits on far more genres than just alien killing.

Not to say you will definitely love it upon viewing (Though, one can hope), just that it's not an MiB ripoff.

    ABC Family?

    by charlie murphy

i can't say i've ever seen an abc family show... are they low-budgeted cheesy affairs, or do they actually have some good stuff? i think the only two i've heard of are kyle xy and greek... if it's from grillo-marxuach, it might be worth a look, but that poster looks cheesy as all hell.

    Q&A with Javier Grillo Marxuach

    by pinkraygun_guy

http://tinyurl.com/3qpwmo and http://tinyurl.com/4lwyfr for a Q&A session with Javier Grillo-Marxuach about The Middleman. I had never heard of it before being invited to the Q&A by ABC Family, but after talking with the producer/creator, it sounds like it will be loads of fun. I mean, anything with an episode about a tentacle butt-monster HAS to be good, right?

    Middling Man

    by dangerman

I've seen this and it's pretty much what you'd expect: Bad. Nothing better than misfired humor. And yes, the production values are totally Knudsen.

    Middleman will rock!

    by c00l dud3

Thanks for the info about the various websites! I've been excited for this show ever since I heard was getting produced it because I'm a fan of Javier and his comic. I think it has a wide range of appeal since it's a wacky take on the sci-fi/comic book genre, so I think this show can do very well in the ratings department. ABC Family has been doing edgier shows for a while now, and Kyle XY shows they've already got a foot in the door for sci-fi.

Also Wendy Watson rules. She's hot, and nerdy, which is also hot.

So what if it's on ABC Family?

    by doc_mccoy

They seem to have let Grillo-Marxuach, an imaginative and ultra-talented geek, run wild with this show. Love the retro vibe. This could be fun.
