AICN & FANTASTIC FEST'S THE INCREDIBLE HULK Screening - Here's How To Get In!

Hey folks, Harry here - I'm giddy. Word from Moriarty is solid - word from the other sites seems to be lining up that THE INCREDIBLE HULK is Incredible. And we're going to have some Lou voiced HULK SMASH style dialogue. I'm delighted. I pursued getting this screening set up well before the tide turned on the HULK buzz. It was actually the day after the IRON MAN screening - I just refused to believe that Marvel was set to fuck this up.
That said... as the buzz has continued to build and grow gamma style for the Hulk - I have to say - I'm relieved. I loved the script and the direction that the tone was headed in. I like their director and the cast.
Well - we'll see soon enough - JUNE 4th isn't very far away now - and I've got the details for you!
On June 4th, 2008 we'll be doing an INCREDIBLE screening of THE INCREDIBLE HULK!!!
Festivities will begin at 5pm - where we'll have a 2 hour pre-party loaded with "Gamma Martinis" and other Hulk'd out libations. I hear that we'll have a TON of HULK HANDS for the audience, though I'm not sure of the exact number. There will be a HULK BOUNCE CASTLE - where you can... after having your Gamma Martini... don your HULK HANDS and BOUNCE AND SMASH! Oh - And your photo will be taken and will be on the Official HULK website I hear.
In addition - We'll have a Life Sized HULK statue there - to fondle, grope and photograph yourself with... Don't worry about bringing a camera - photographers are being provided apparently!
Oh and during all of this - Tim Roth, Louis Leterrier, Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel's man with the plan, Kevin Feige will be there.
OK - At some point they'll be signing HULK posters for the audience - and then we'll screen the film!
Then - afterwards - we'll have a Q&A - where we can ask all the questions on our minds - and Grill Kevin about the awesome period Captain America film... THOR and the direction of AVENGERS. Yes... this and more... Yes More! Can and will be yours... if you get in.
I'm so excited... I can't really ponder up hard rules for how to get in - but this is what I'm going to do. It's 1:21am LaLaLand time - and I'm curious how fast these tickets will go... so this is a speed contest.
Send an email with this EXACT subject line:
HULK SMASH ME PLEASE!
If it's changed in the slightest your email will not be forwarded to the winning folder - and if I get multiple copies of your email - I'll delete you. This is about speed and precision!
And in the email - include your name and the name of your guest (each email is good for 2 seats) - Once you've been chosen - If you can't make it - please email me to let me know - so we can get the seat filled. Ok? Thanks.
Oh - here's where to Email it... HK at AINTITCOOL dot COM
Alright - let's fill this smashing good time up! See you there!!!

Will one of the editors please discuss the Norton issue!
by industrykiller!
For God sakes guys there is this huge elephant int he room when it comes to this film and no one is saying anything. Why is Norton not promoting or even acknowledging this film?? Is it really because they cut out 15 minutes of character moments? Is he right to be upset? Is it more complicated than that? Does he still stand by the film at all? Somebody has got to know something. Considering he's about the only reason I'm going to pay money for this I would like someone to at least acknowledge the issue.
-
Hulk Smashes First!
-
I'll let you know!
-
HARRY NO MATCH FOR HULK..HULK MOVIE INCREDIBLE!!!
-
Mori had no idea at the time of his visit that I had this in the plans. This got locked up about 3 weeks ago. And what I do in Austin has zero affect on Drew.
-
I really hope I make this one. Hearing those chords from the TV show at the end of the trailer raised my hopes.
-
Doesn't anyone know anything already? You know the answer to the Q & A question is gonna be "Look we love Edward and he's incredible in the film but Edward is very...he's passionate. And it's not unusual on big projects to have disagreements. But seriously it's all been blown completely out of proportion by the media and I'm confident this will all blow over for the sequel blah blah blah." The lead actor of a 100+ million dollar movie is refusing to promote the thing, there's got to be a lot of talk about that. I just want to know the reasoning behind it all because for Norton to put his credibility as an actor a studio can trust it must be a pretty god damn big deal.
-
Sounds like a blast
-
Seriously - with a planned AVENGERS film - if THE INCREDIBLE HULK is wildly successful - will we see Ed back in the role - or has his decision to play Mr Rushmore - rubbed Marvel Films the total wrong way - and we'll have a 3rd HULK actor - or Eric Bana back? Ultimately - I'm pretty sure Marvel has Ed under contract for a 3 film deal - if not - would Ed even entertain returning to the role. All accounts I've heard is that he's fantastic in this and the interview he did on the upcoming INCREDIBLE HULK seasons 3 & 4 DVDs showed a great deal of passion for the character... but then we have this fight. Ultimately we'll see. I know from Drew and the other site's descriptions of the OPENING CREDITS - apparently a bunch of "Flashbacks" were converted into a quick opening titles sequence... and having those scenes reduced to the bare essentials... as a WRITER and an ACTOR - he was probably artistically offended.
-
Cool - most people that lost their balls - wouldn't replace them with motion activated singing Christmas acorns - You're a legend.
-
...of adding Mr. Norton as a last minute guest? Having "Mr. Orange" is pretty bad ass, but having Edward "Narrator-not jack" Norton there would be the ultimate geek icing on this AICN cake!
-
You conspiracy theorising was ridiculous, and your attempt at a rejoinder to Harry's funny put-down went down like a lead balloon. This event sounds awesome, I wish I could go. :^)
-
If Hulk is a box office failure but is as much fun as Shoot 'Em Up, I'll be disappointed for Marvel but still very happy. Your snark on the other hand, makes Baby Jesus cry.
-
Because if he didn't, I bet they wouldn't be able to get anyone to attend a free advance screening of a major summer movie where the only stipulation to get in is the attendee has to send an email. Good thing they planted that long, detailed (and clearly fraudulent) set review, or else it would be impossible to find anyone interested in seeing a Marvel superhero movie especially after Iron Man bombed so hard. (I know sarcasm doesn't read so well on the net, but I think I laid it on thick enough....)
-
I mean that might be a part of it, but there has to be more. EW said something about 15 minutes being cut to make the film more action oriented. If that's the case then I really wanna know what was in those 15 minutes. Because if it's enough that it makes Edward Norton think that the film won't meet the film he thought he was making, they must be pretty damn important. Remember his reputation is on the line, he's got to know that, for him to risk it the disparagement between him and the studio must be pretty big. He's already been pegged as "difficult" so for him to perpetuate that is kind of a big deal. It's just a damn shame, because an actor of his caliber deserves a tent pole franchise so he can write his own ticket in other areas.
-
Anyway. Yeah, this Hulk didn't have me excited in any way until recently. I like Ang Lee's version, its so strange and ballsy and that end is just something altogether beautiful. It shouldn't have worked, and clearly it didn't for many, but I like it. This new one though, the recent clips look bang on the money, a much 'safer' bet but that doesn't mean it's any easier for the makers of this. I'd go to this screening if only I didn't live 5000 miles away.
-
Just as this film is starting to fulfill my expectations, Ed Norton goes fucking AWOL on us................... Come on Ed, tell us what the deal is with this film and your distinct lack of having anything to do with it!
-
on this film? that's news to everyone. ill certainly see it, but the marketing has been fckng terrible and the interest amongst the general public (ie-not the trolls around here) is way less than when compared with Iron Man. Here's hoping it actually does kick ass tho, but other than Moriarity's piece Ive seen nothing positive
-
Norton- and the rest of you-need to get over it....as an actor you are hired to ACT....you sign on based on the script you read, if you dont like it, dont do it....or, get hired as a writer or director on do it yourself......so the project isnt what you thought-are you trying to tell me that this is the first time this has happened?.....if i recall he wasnt happy with the Italian Job either....
-
Great city, nice climate, etc etc etc.
-
Has this officially been stated somewhere? No Leno/Letterman/Conan appearances for my fellow Columbia, Marylander? I read all the rumors, but haven't heard that Norton won't be promoting it. That doesn't bode well for him appearing as Banner in an ensemble piece like AVENGERS...
-
Only because in this new re-vision version they've decided to totally change the route they went in with the toys then the first one. This time they got GIANT HULK fists!!!!!!!! Wait.... thats the same? Anyways, my girlfriend said that she wants to see it, and she hates comic book movies. So I am guessing that if a female would want to see this looks like it will make bank. She doesn't even know about the first Hulk movie either.
-
Edward thought he was signing on to do the first Ang Lee version of the Hulk.
-
or did this article not say where the screening will take place? Where is "Fantastic Fest?" No matter. Seems like all AiCN screenings are either in Austin or Chicago. When I become king of the planet, all screenings will occur in Cleveland. Just because.
-
Jesus, he is a crybaby on HALF the movies he has been a part of. Going WAY back. Wish it was different this time, but oh well. He probably got huffy because Lou got to add the voice to "his" character in the movie.
-
he's been in his fair share of shit that he was happy to promote..if the film's good he's only going to look like a goose anyway
-
then he goes and throws his toys out of his pram! If he can't be bothered to turn up and promote this one we've got fuck all hope he'll be in the Avengers! I think thats why they've 'put on hold' plans for an Incredible Hulk sequel methinks.
-
is that he did a complete rewrite of the script under the stipulation he had a say in the final cut. The studio then proceeded to not adhere to the agreement and cut the film as they saw fit. Norton has every right to be angry (they don't like him when he's like that). When I saw him at Comicon I loved the fact that he wanted to capture the Bixby series in this version (hence the theme music) and they said that there would be a nod to Bixby in the credits.
I was pleasently surprised by how much Norton really loved this and was excited about it. So they must have really dicked him over for him to be this ticked. -

Will We Be Told On Here When The Tickets Are All Gone?
by mrmidnight1201am

Being a performer myself, it's irritating when you are told to do something that you think will suck. And when it does, the audience just remembers YOU suck. Not that the editor made a bad choice or the director made a wrong decision...no, Joe Actor sucked in that. When you are the performer it is your ass on the line out there.
-
To get noticed here. Honestly I didnt get to see Iron Man. Should I send a video? Be in college? Be a chick? Have a fake of rediculas name like Jen Naddles? Say it outloud you'll get it. Honestly Im trying to be sarcastic. I need this.
-
So AICN announces a preview screening of a film less than half a week after posting a voluminous puff piece on it ... yet there was no quid pro quo.
Norton is once again nowhere to be found in the lineup for a high-profile promotional event ... yet he is definitely NOT "off the picture."
In related news, night is day, black is white, and Scott McClellan has a new book out.
These events -- like the ability of a convention room full of dweebs to pretend that one of the shoddiest CGI characters ever assembled looks just fine, thank you -- really help me to understand why such a large swath of the public still believes Iraq had something to do with Sept. 11. Because if you repeat an outrageous lie loudly and often enough, it becomes the "truth."
Can't wait for the hard-hitting, totally unfawning Q&A at Fantastic Fest (interrupted only by the tarring and feathering of anybody like the poor sucker at Comic Con who dared to even tentatively ask about the Norton situation). Oh, and the glowing Hulk reviews that will doubtlessly appear here immediately thereafter, while the rest of the known world -- or the part of it with any discernment, anyway -- goes after the movie with hammer and chisel. Feh. -
Why oh why Harry, do I live in Italy? So far away from the geekgasmic events you always have!!!
Have fun with your Hulking martinis! -
1. Grab door handle.
-
I'm sure if YOU were there, YOU would set everyone straight, right? Because it isn't possible that people might have actually LIKED what they've seen so far. YOU don't like it, so it MUST suck. How can matters of OPINION be "outrageous lies"?? Don't you realize how silly that sounds?
-
clearly seems to be missing from this site lately. Or maybe you guys are right and every big summer movie has been great lately. Well Harry's gotta eat...no doubt about that one, so carry on..
-
i been pissing into the wind on the other tb wondering how anyone couldn't have seen ANYthing bad in the extended footage when there's plenty of it staring us in the face on the shorter trailers/clips.
-
will be releasing a DVD animated version of the Black Freighter just four days after Watchmen is released theatrically, along with a documentary style film called "Under the Hood" about all the superheroes. Then after Watchmen is released on DVD, they will release a new version of it spliced with that material. Come on AICN get fuckin with it! This was in the New York Times!
-
Man I was up all night hoping this would get posted, must have gone to sleep right before; damnit
-
One lone white male fighting against the Obama-nation???!!!??
Like we can't see that Marvel is in the tank for McCain!! -
and then he will come back to the fold. Whether this was a signed and done deal or just a verbal agreement is what I want to know. Sounds like just a verbal agreement or Norton could take legal action.

Harry will love it! The rest of the world will hate it!

You know it be true! Hulk smash Harry
-
... Ed Norton IS going to do publicity. It's simply not true to say he's backed out of everything. And my set visit had nothing to do with Harry and his screening. Harry has screenings constantly in Austin, and they have absolutely no bearing on my work in LA.
-
... the reason we don't rush out some breathless article on the "Ed Norton situation" is because it was manufactured by Nikki Finke. There IS NO "Ed Norton situation." Ed's never been a guy who does tons of publicity on any film. Name one movie where you saw him on every single talk show and out pressing the flesh 24/7. That's just not who he is. Having said that, he's doing publicity for the film, and I'm sure you'll see plenty of him once the machine kicks into gear in a few weeks.
-
Trying to make the reviews here look like the Nixon tapes. Get a fucking life and enjoy something. So what if someone is excited about a movie? I'm sorry you're depressed and sad because you guys never get laid but try and get excited for something it's fun, I promise. This gothic teen cry baby attitude about movies and reviews on this site is getting really old. I think the movie looks alright and if I had a chance to go to the screening I would, but I can't =(
-
I am guessing this will be in texas since there is no mention of a venue?
-
My guess is Austin, probably at the Alamo on South lamar. It would be a lot of trouble to put up a jumping castle down town
-
It's not like he was going to do tons of publicity for Down in the Valley. This is a different animal. Usually with a massive budget comic movie you have the actor out in front MONTHS ahead of schedule at least talking to magazines and getting the hype ball rolling. That isn't happening here. To say there is NO issue sounds a little disingenuous but I believe you when you say it was blown out of proportion if, in fact, we see him hitting the circuit. But the fact of the matter is here we are barely two weeks away and he has said literally nothing. That's weird. And I didn't need some massive op ed piece about the mind of Edward Norton, only an acknowledgment, which you have now done and I do thank you for it. The only reason i care is because I'm not a big fan of the Hulk character and it's not something i would normally rush out to see. but I always love seeing comic characters played by great actors. So really I'm going to see this film for Bruce Banner, not the Hulk. And if the guy playing that character doesn't believe in the film then, as a consumer, i want to know what I'm about to consume.
-
Darn it...
-
yeah well some of us are bloody hulk fans and we'd rather talk about something else other than ed hack norton and whether moriwhatever sold out down the fucking river, please. fuck off to some other thread would you. the fact is the movie looks gank from what i've seen, much the same shit was said before transformers, it was generally deemed awful on here from the trailers and character designs and then some hype machine landed it in the broadening lap of the american movie-going public who guzzled down the feature-length army-of-one recruitment video and even came back for seconds, with the moronically apologetic "well what do you expect from a michael bay movie, 'tis not shakespeare" response. less than 10% of the talkback comments on these last few threads have addressed the lobotomized, stilted dialogue, video-game paced hyperaction, and stupid, messy logic ("hulk using his environment" hahaha!) amidst all the ancillary norton/moriarto nonsense and i actually believe some of you knob-ends are playing right into the studio's hands by focusing on precisely the WRONG things. movie looks shite! look at it for fuck's sake, look at resident evil abomination, or the hulk and his stupid car-gloves. it's cold semen on your pillow that you rolled over on, twice, or whatever the aicn tb hyperbolic equivalent. too fast, too dumb, too cliched, too poorly animated, although the cgi is the least of this movie's worries. at least they (partially) avoided smooth, swooping digi-cam moments where the viewpoint is too obviously an algorithm. shaky -even pretend handheld- camera action is precisely what is required for hulk and the only portion they nailed from what i've seen is hulk recoiling from the grenade launcher impacts before the wire-fu kicks in. half the movie is like the t.v. show ffs! hulk fans, belly-up, it's what you've always wanted.
-
... it's gossip. And I know plenty of movies that I adore that some of the cast or even crew hated. Just because someone had a shit experience on a film doesn't mean that the film is going to be bad, and just because everyone had a blast every day on a set, it doesn't mean it's going to be great. Friction can often be a good thing for the creative process. Even if Ed Norton walked away and never spoke about the film again, it still doesn't mean anything about the film itself. I'll judge what's onscreen, and I'm not going to worry about who did or didn't get their feelings hurt during the process.
-
...look at Blade Runner. Not saying TIH is of that caliber, but THAT was a movie with problems that turned out AWESOME!
-
And I;m not saying that even if Norton rages against it that it is a bad film. What i;m saying is a typical Hulk film is ultimately not something I would be overly interested in. It's just not MY thing personally on a conceptual level. I'm a big comic nut, but in all my years reading comics I've never connected with the character. I'm not against it in any way, just sort of nonplussed. Edward Norton on the other hand is an actor I've had an affinity for since my early teens and I'll more or less go see anything he does. And while I think this Hulk film looks good if it was any other actor in the role I'd wait until I heard some friends opinions or it was DVD. With Norton in the role and doing some script work I'll see it opening weekend, maybe I'm weird but I get that way with actors I like. I would also like to see what he does with a role like this. But if they cut 15 minutes out of the Banner character stuff, and Norton ultimately doesn't think it's the character driven role he wanted it to be, then I could probably wait, especially when like 25 minutes of the movie is supposed to be two CG monsters fighting, which I could really do without in a quantity that large. But if you say it's bullshit I'll take your word for it, you would certainly know better than I would.
-
... short of having actually been in the room with them for every conversation, I can't say for sure that he's tapdancing and thrilled with each choice. What I do know is that a very, very few press outlets tried to blow this up into a much bigger story than it is, and that's why I didn't address it. Shit like this takes on a life of its own, true or not. Norton will be doing publicity on the film... about as much as anyone could expect him to do on any movie... and we'll see what he has to say at that point. I'm not pretending to speak for him. I'm just saying that the places that really tried to make this a HUGE STORY are not places I especially trust. Cough crazynikki cough.
-
i dunno. i personally think the trailers show a hulk that looks pathetically cartoony but my blogging partner seems to think otherwise. my expectations are low, his are high (eattheblinds.blogspot.com). should i really care about the drama? as for norton, ask tony kaye for his opinion
-
I gots a hankering for a Gamma Martini. Or twelve.
-
There's nothing silly in saying that the opinion of an audience full of 16-year-old, 90-pound weaklings is an easy thing to sway ... and Feige et al played their fanboy naivete like a harp. But in deference to your theory about opinions not counting as lies, I will grant that thinking either of the CGI Hulks looked/looks "convincing" is an entirely credible opinion ... provided that one has never left the cradle of one's basement PS3 den long enough to find out what corporeal beings look like when actual sunlight glints off of them.
Meanwhile, the prevarication here has reached absurd levels. Norton is doing "some" promotion ... just not at two of the events (Comic Con and Fantastic Fest) of greatest interest to the movie's target audience. What, is the Joe Franklin Show still on, or something? And I guess Entertainment Weekly now has less "credibility" than AICN, 'cause they sure didn't have any qualms about delving into the Norton story, which was too big for even their advertiser-driven agenda to ignore. But who are you going to trust ... old-school journalists who are willing to work under their real names, or Hollywood wannabes who post under pseudonyms? (And before you ask, yes, BruceVain IS my given name, lack of space and all.) -
Points taken; they are good ones. I've just been chafing at the hostility on ALL the talkbacks lately. Hope I get into the screening, if I do and you have any questions you want asked post them here and I'll certainly do it. xoxo
-
what happend to actors acting, writers writting, directors directing???????? people do the job you are hired for and shut up....of course we also need hollywood to make the film the bouught.....I mean how often have we heard I love this script.book/play/comic/song/cartoon...and the finished/film looks NOTHING like the source matterial....wheres the loyalty the backbone if the shooting scrip isnt the one you signed on to do walk away,,,,,and How about saying FILM this, THIS is what we bought, THIS is what we want on film??????????
-
The HULK MOVIE SNEAK PREVIEW may suffer gastrically for you. After your LAP BAND PROCEDURE are you still limited to liquid BROTH? Your eating must be like going from being a $10,000 WOOD CHIPPER to now a 99 cents manual PENCIL SHARPENER. Have a sip and a nibble for me.
-
spoil away with appropriate forewarnings etc
-
Um, excuse me, but who's the one here who's avoiding the issue and hiding behind rank insults -- and contradicting himself in the process? I have carefully explained every assessment I have made of this movie, as Carmilla was kind enough to acknowledge. You, meanwhile, vacillate between saying you find the effects wonderful and imploring us not to judge them the way we would the product of an FX house with real resources to play with. Know what? That's an incredibly stupid way to judge movies. A viewer is supposed to sit in the audience for a major summer release and gloss over any flaws based on behind-the-scenes budgetary issues he may or may not be aware of? How about this: You pay good money to see a movie about the Hulk, you deserve to get a remotely believable Hulk. Period. End of story. It is obvious from everything we have seen that this has NOT been accomplished -- and people with far more technical know-how than I have come on here to point out exactly why this is. At this point, it's all over but the shouting -- which seems to be being done by overly emotional, easily led fanboys who try to silence voices of reason while pulling every discussion down to their paltry levels of taste and sophistication. Oh, and let's not forget the advertorial suckups with personal agendas to further. But we've established that having "correspondents" who breezily talk up their own industry projects doesn't strike you as any conflict of interest.
-
I swear dude, I can't recall any movie that we've debated that you've actually liked. Every single one of your post consists of debasing any movie that doesn't meet your subjective standards. If you were a studio executive, you wouldn't make your shareholders shit! All you do tear down any movie that's well received by the general populace. Get over yourself dude.
