ARRESTED’s Judy Greer Snags Lead In HBO’s SUBURBAN SHOOTOUT Pilot!!

Published at:  May 21, 2008 8:01:09 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Judy Greer (“Adaptation,” “13 Going On 30,” “Arrested Development,” “27 Dresses”) has been tapped for a central role in the pilot of “Suburban Shootout,” Barry Sonnenfeld’s HBO adaptation of the 2006 British comedy.

Apparently it’s about rival gangs of pistol-toting hausfraus.

Co-stars on the project include Kelly Preston (“Medium”), Kerri Kenney (“Reno 911!”) and Rachael Harris (“Notes From The Underbelly”).

Greer’s participation in any series version is dependant upon the status of Greer sitcom “Miss Guided.” ABC has until the end of next month to pick up “Guided” for a second season.

Find today’s Hollywood Reporter story on the matter here.

  • For nomination consideration, that is:

Best Actor: Edward James Olmos (Sine Qua Non)

    Best Actress: Mary McDonnell (Faith)

Best Supporting Actor: Jamie Bamber and Michael Hogan (Sine Qua Non); James Callis (He That Believeth in Me)

Best Supporting Actress: Tricia Helfer and Grace Park (Guess What's Coming to Dinner); Katee Sackhoff (Six of One)

How fucking off-the-chain fantastic must Sine Qua Non BE if Olmos, Bamber and Hogan are making it their tape?

    Ratings in UK

    by drfalstaff

Suburban Shootout (the original Channel 5 version) was a flop here in the UK. A one-joke 'dramady' that I'm amazing is being remade when there are/were so many good UK series that would benefit from a little US gloss (such as UltraViolet).

Having said that, I do have a soft spot for Judy Greer so I hope they take the premise, ditch everything else and have a hit.

The remake can only get better

    by ev1ldead

The original is a giant piece of crap and the best example that the brits have no reason to judge over US-Comedy. The Office, Little Britain or Coupling are the exception of the rule. Most of their comedies are so silly that it hurts...in a bad way.

It's been very well recieved, and its the first filmed screenplay of Danny Strong, the beloved Jonathon from Buffy. He was one of my favorite secondary characters, and I was suprised to see his name in the writing credits. Okay, now back to your regularly scheduled talkback.

I meant that League of Gentleman is just as good as Little britain. The humor is sometimes very similar. Even some of the characters. For example Marjorie Dawes in Little Britain and Pauline in League.

Darkplace is not only bad compared with Riget. Nothing wrong with a GOOD remake or ripoff. Like The Office US or Stromberg. Darkplace is bad because it's not funny.

    German comedy

    by ev1ldead

You are right, Toonol. Good german comedy is rare like an english soccer player who is good at the penalty shoot out. There are only 4 german comedies i wouldn't be ashamed of calling them good and 3 of them are remakes. Stromberg (german version of The Office. Even better is a parody in the sketch comedy show "Switch" called "Obersalzberg" in which Hitler is the boss of the Office http://tinyurl.com/4ownpc ), Pastewka (german version of Curb your Enthusiasm), Dr. Psycho(not a Remake but a little like Monk meets Rescue Me) and in the Seventies Ein Herz und eine Seele (german version of "All in the Family"/"Till Death Us Do Part").

    by oisin5199

And that picture is one of my least favorite of her. Anyway, Judy is awesome. I'd watch her in anything. Wasn't Rachel Harris on Daily Show for a while? She was the 'female reporter' before Samantha Bee. Even though Rachel's hotter, I guess Ms. Bee fit the tone of the show better. And then Harris did Geico commercials. Now she has a career, apparently.

    by the handsome 12th doctor

Peep Show - Particularly the first couple of series, though I think the current series is blissfully back on track. The Peter Serafinowicz Show - Best sketch show of recent times. I loved that it wasn't afraid to go weird. Plus his impressions are tops. Pulling - Someone mentioned this already didn't they? I concur. Gavin And Stacey - Again, someone else said this. I concur again.

She has performed so well in films and I can see her carrying Surburban Shootout over here without a problem. Greer and Julie White are great comedy no matter what dreck they're in. Instead of stupidly trying to remake a great show and failing (like the McSpaced fiasco) they're remaking something that's so shit that anything they do can only be better. Put a few half-decent jokes in it and they might have an ok show on their hands. It could be the Ocean's 11 of the sit-com world.
