ScoreKeeper With Video From Bear McCreary 's Recent GALACTICA Concert!!

Published at:  May 20, 2008 12:28:34 PM CDT

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here with a multimedia follow-up to my article on the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA concert held last month at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood. After the post went public I received a lot of email and questions in the talkback requesting video footage and expressed desires to have the concert released on DVD.

Ask and you shall receive.

Let’s start off with word from the man himself, Bear McCreary. Here’s what Bear had to say on his blog [HERE] concerning some new video footage from the event.

G4.com is running exclusive concert footage of the recent MUSIC OF BATTLESTAR GALACTICA at the Roxy Theatre! It features interviews with myself, singers Brendan McCreary and Raya Yarbrough, and our MC for the evening, Kandyse “Dualla” McClure. You’ll also hear clips from our performances of Fight Night and Roslin and Adama.

If this segment gets enough clicks, they’re ready to run FULL MUSIC VIDEOS of those two songs, so pass that URL to your buddies!

Bear also mentions some exciting news about getting the whole concert and documentary featured on the Season 4 DVD.

We are in the process of putting together a video of the complete concert and the documentary we premiered. Fear not. You will all get a chance to see this thing. I don’t know how yet… maybe I can convince Universal to include it on the Season 4 DVD, maybe we’ll release it online, maybe I’ll burn DVDs myself and leave them at bus-stops. But, it will get out there, I promise!

In all seriousness, though… some enthusiastic noise from the fan community will really help get this concert footage on the Season 4 DVD. So, if you want to see this, help out by drumming up some support online.

For everybody that wanted to attend this amazing event but couldn’t, here’s a chance to carve out your keyhole in the fence for a little glimpse. I, for one, can say it would be an extremely welcome edition to the season 4 DVD set to have this footage. You’re already going to get the final season of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA how cool would it be to get the entire concert included as well?

You should also check out the plethora of photos taken by LA based photographer, Andrew Craig. There are three online albums chock-full of superb photographs from the event.

    Best Thing You Can Do

    by scorekeeper

if you want more footage, i.e. the whole concert on DVD, is watch that film and spread the word. The more hits that video gets the more you'll get later. It's clearly just a matter of popularity and demand. Show the powers that be both and the chances increase. Read Bear's blog for more info.

Yeah, that track was from "Unfinished Business." It's also one of my least favorite cues from S3. I really prefer the orchestral stuff, which it doesn't look like they were able to do for this concert. Oh well, I still want to see it. Hope it ends up on the DVD.

    Concert DVD, orchestra, and more

    by tangent

Hey guys, Andrew Craig here with a few responses for some of the things people have commented on.

gotham_night- Two things. First up, this has only been up for a little over a week. Bear made the post late night on May 11th. Secondly, you can pull video of youtube to be sure. The only issue with that is that the video quality is terrible, the audio is inconsistent, and its all shot from mid audience. G4, however, had three cameras there shooting (one up at the very front of the stage, two in the VIP section) and they were using real cameras so when you see the full resolution footage, it looks way better then anything off youtube.

SlientP- The exact track is called "Fight Night." It was more of a rock show then an "orchestra" show, but a lot of it had to do with space. As it was, fitting two percussionists, a drummer, two guitarists, two violinists, one violist, one cellist, one guy on wind instruments, a bass player, two guitarists and the keyboards was a mighty task. Maybe if response is high enough, the gang will play a bigger venue next year and get the entire orchestra on that stage...

blindambition238- Paul Cartwright is one of the more talented violinists I have ever met. It isn't that hes about to drop dead, but that he gets so incredibly into everything hes doing. Hell, the man jumps up and down while playing sometimes. He has an incredible amount of energy and if you ask anyone who went to the show, he was clearly one of the most appreciated musicians on that stage. A true rock star if I've ever seen one.

    by blindambition238

When I said that he looked like he was going to drop dead that was basically what I meant. He looked so into it I thought he was in a drug induced trance. Don't worry I have the utmost respect for violinists, as someone who had to play the damned thing for a few years (quite badly I might add).

Yeah, the guy is amazing. A friend of mine had me ask him if he got beat up a lot in high school and his response was "No, they just wouldn't let me be in their rock bands." He has an insane amount of talent. Go see Brendan's Band if you get a chance. They won't be playing til probably July (as Steve is in London orchestrating on Hellboy II) but they put on a great show.

    Hey guys,
G4 actually has 2 more Galactica Live! videos....

One is an interview with Bear:

...and the other is a more traditional Galactica cut, this one being "Roslin & Adama" (you might like this one Flickchick85):

    by flickchick85

I did like that one more. Looks like they at least a few violins there. I doubt it was enough to do tracks like "The Shape of Things to Come," "Prelude to War," or "Something Dark is Coming," but they worked nicely for that rendition of "Roslin and Adama." Now I REALLY want to see this on the DVD.

Hadn't read Tangent's post before I posted. So they certainly made the most out of 2 violins, 1 violist, and a cellist. It sounded great.

    by dumbpeoplesuck

It's things like this that make this site worth coming to. Mr. McCreary, hats off to you. The body of music you've created for this show is just incredible. One CD per season just isn't enough. Just another reason this concert needs a DVD release. It's mandatory.
