"Law and Order" tidbit !'!

Glen here...

AL sent in the following message about Law and Order. It's a rather self-explanatory
message:

Al wrote:

A friend of mine ran into Sam Waterson at the airport in
Toronto.

As he was leaving the plane, an attendant mentioned to
him that it was "his fault" that she was working a day shift because
she had to book off the night shift the day before so she could
watch the L&O season finale.

Waterson was apparently amused,
and she asked him what's next for L&O

I guess he was still
feeling charitable so he said "well, I can tell you that it looks like
Jill Hennesy (who played Asst. D.A. Claire Kincaid from 1993-1996) will
be worked in next season".

She and some of the
other starstruck L&O fans in the terminal fell silent at that little
tidbit - and Waterson did the wry smile thing and was on his way.

    I've Missed Jill

    by marklemagne

Um, I missed that episode, but didn't Claire DIE in a wreck? Don't get me wrong, she was always my favorite McCoy "sidekick," but I'd like to know how they're going to pull that one off.

They're never said she was did

    by fordat1

Whenever the topic has come up,it's never been made EXACTLY clear what happened after the accident. The impression has been that she died or at the very least something awful happened to her due to the accident. The way out is to say she was in a coma or something to that effect. If Dick Wolf and company read this, GREAT IDEA!!!, Also do another Movie with Chris Noth and Bring Back Dr. Olivet and just keep up the great work!

    The Car Crash

    by caitsith

It was made fairly clear that Kincaid was dead, but that doesn't mean the show can;t involve the accident. It was left fairly ambiguous, but it did appear like it was a hit-and-run accident, so it could involve prosecuting thcase, and if you saw what McCoy [sp?} did to the guy accused of a drunk driving homicide a couple seasons ago, you'll know that he'll go all out on this case.

    It was very clear

    by noflyzone

Of course they made it clear, or did we miss the most recent cross-over episode? The Independent Council made it perfectly clear that Briscoe was in the car when his client/lover (another myth which was finally made concrete fact) was killed in the accident.

Maybe Waterston's just a bit of a joker. Being that Dick Wolf has been trying to get te show back to it's "just the facts" roots, I doubt he'd be into any kind of flashback episode(s). But then again, maybe he'll use them in the spinoff...

    Claire

    by quiscustodiet

They are working Jill Hennesy back in the script not Claire, could be a different character, how, I'm not sure, but whatever they do, I'll be happy to have this beautiful woman back on my screen. Also, if anyone from L and O reads this, do a two-parter with Paul Robinette, his new outlook on being a black lawyer should make for a great episode!

    No Claire

    by scott-sahn

I`ve never gotten to see this episode when Claire dies. But I`m sure Waterson is joking just to get the reaction from the gawkers that he got. HE WAS JOKING! Do you think he would devulge such info. Dick Wolf would kick his hiney. I just hope that the new guy (I can`t recall his name) can fill the shoes of Benjamin Bratt.

    Claire was not killed

    by cpt. matt

If you have it, go back and watch the next season's opening episode after the car wreck finale (its one of a few episodes I kept on tape), its clearly stated that Claire was in a coma. That's why Briscoe was so torn up, she had been "rescuing" him from a bar.

    Cool!

    by half pint

Well, it's great that they're going to bring back Jill Hennesy, if not Claire, but what about the fact that McCoy was FIRED at the end of the season finale for disobeying a direct order from Adam? Anyone heard if they're going to keep the character somehow?

    Was he fired though?

    by snakeeyes

I'm not sure he was fired though. In the final minutes, Jack tells Adam that even (insert name) would have fired him for disobeying an order. Adam then turns and says, "But I'm not (insert name). There will be no martyrs in this case." (I don't remember the exact words)
It sounds to me like Adam just changed his mind.

    yeah, but

    by half pint

True, Jack might not have been fired, but it looked like he was packing up his office at the end of the episode, & he told Adam he was just finishing cleaning up, or something to that effect. I hope he's not fired, I love the character. If Jack's not in the "real" L & O, maybe he'll be in the spin-off that I saw advertised, something like Law & Order special crimes unit (something like that). I think this new unit is supposed to concentrate on the most gruesome crimes & helping the victims. Anybody know anything about the new series?

    They did kill her off....

    by sethshandor

I remember when they came back for the next season they mentioned she was in a coma. However later in the season they alluded to the fact that she had in fact dies later on. McCoy got yelled at by Adam because Adam thought he was taking a drunk driving case for personally than he thought he should, because of Claire. It was quick and an odd off-screen way to get rid of her but they did. (Just like Ben Stone was mentioned being contacfted in passing once briefly.) It was also suggested that Jack and Claire had been intimate as well.

I miss homicide too but L&O has always rocked.
NYPD blue and ER have always sucked.

    McCoy was NOT fired

    by a-train

McCoy was packing up his desk under the assumption he would be fired. Adam reminds him that there "would be no martyrs on this case" which is a pretty clear indication that he is staying.

Of course, its also widely known that Sam Waterston will be on next years L&O so its not really a cliffhanger.

BTW, Claire did die. I miss Jill Hennesey a lot, but I like the Baywatch chick a HECK of a lot more than I thought I would. She's great.

    Hennessy, Harmon, etc

    by whitey

It was my understanding that Kincaid did die; the poster who cites the special prosecuotr episode is right. I think Waterston, if this tale is indeed true, perhaps meant that the past will catch up w/Jack McCoy. Maybe McCoy begins a new romance and the metaphorical ghost of Claire is haunting him throughout it, which would imply that he has another romance w/ a co-worker. Angie Harmon maybe? Doubt it. She started off nicely on the first two episodes but I have to say I've lost interest in her characters, as have the writers too apparently. She has NOTHING to do except be the bitchy foil for McCoy. Her moral grandstanding can be a little much to believe considering she's an ex-narc atty. from Texas; how many moral compromises do you think she had to make to be where she's at in the NYC DA's office?! They ought to explore that more. Otherwise, dump her after this upcoming season as she is not adding anything to the series anymore (I know, the sidekick's burden but Claire and Ross transcended that somewhat). No, I think Waterston starts a romance with that redheaded attorney from the season finale and she either dies, sues him, or replaces Harmon. That's my bet. Now how many other people out there think that it's time for Orbach to move on? I love him on the show but I think the series needs another new jolt in casting besides the forthcoming Jesse L. Martin. What low grade movie star/high grade TV star should replace him? Someome of a Sorvino calibre maybe?

    John Munch on L&O

    by mr dark

Forgive me if this is old news already, but I did not see any reference to it in this L&O Talkback... so here goes: Apparently, Richard Belzer is in contract negotiations with Dick Wolf and company to reprise his role of Det. John Munch (from our beloved Homicide, natch) on both L&O and the new spin-off series. Earliest reports have Belzer becoming a permanent cast member. As a die-hard Homicide fan, I'll become a more regular viewer of L&O, just to hear Munch's wry observations and conspiracy theories. Now, if L&O would just salvage a couple of other Homicide characters, we'd be in business.....
