‘Stains??’ A New 3.5-Minute Trailer For J.J. Abrams’ FRINGE!!
I am – Hercules!!
What if somebody at ABC said, “Y’know, David Lynch is a fucking genius. Maybe we should give his show a year in a decent timeslot and see what happens.”
What if someone at Fox said, “Y’know, what would happen if Scully started remembering all the crazy shit she saw in the previous episode every week?”
What if somebody at ABC said, “Y’know, J.J., instead of exploring Sydney’s relationship with her boring fucking half-sister for two seasons, how about digging a little deeper into this Milo Rambaldi business?”

Count me in

Looks really solid, another winner from JJ. I just hope his faith in these Transformers writers is misplaced. I hated that movie, mostly because it had the dumbest script/plot imaginable, but also because Bay sucks balls. I hope this is as intelligent as it looks.
-
Get Denny Crane on the phone! Looks good. Not sure i'd make the X-Files comparisons yet (which would definately be a compliment!) Could do without the Dawson's Creek dude (who did he play? Pacey? never saw the show and yet i know the character's name. scary)but this and Dollhouse and Lost and BG. A new SF TV renaissance definately. Not really a fan of Terminator but i guess you could throw that in there too. Now if only they could do an SF anthology series that people would support. I guess everything HAS to be continuing characters for people to watch....
-
The only television producers in the Aintitcool microcosmic universe.
-
fancy that
-
Well, I've blown my credibility here in just three posts, a new personal record. Still, the original message stands.
-
I hear he gotta eat!
-
It just so happens that J. J. Abrams and Joss Whedon are BOTH creating new television for the fall that might actually be good. So what's wrong with that. Let's not naysay until we've seen proof otherwise. I think this looks well executed, and it seems to have high production values. I'll be there.
-
at least from that short clip, it feels tonally different, and a bit more about science and technology. X-Files had some of those elements but it had a different feel. Aw crap, I can't articulate enough yet. But this will definitely be on the DVR in the fall.
-
could be the new x-files... the new 24 even.....and definately better than the consistantly disappointing alias
-
you can't go wrong. Preview looks great, very excited about this show. hopefully Reddick can find time to appear on Lost now and again. He's such a commanding presence on screen, on the Wire, of course, but his appearances on Lost fucking own, and he looks like he'll be great in this too.
-
why would they want to proclaim that? to scare people away?
-
I had that same thought when I saw Reddick on Lost. I think it's because every other actor on the Wire was so fucking brilliant that it's harder to stand out Not that the acting on Lost is bad or even mediocre, but the Wire was mindblowing for finding talent. If he's involved, I'm even more interested in this (not a huge Abrams fan, but I'll definitely give this a shot).
-
when people know who J.J. Abrams is, yet don't know who Lorne Greene was.
-
This is gonna be a good show. I trust that J.J. can make good on any project he does.

Not X Files rip off, more like female Quatermass, meets The Wire
by wowsah156
JJ Abrams is doijg what the English done in the sixties.
-
Maybe their marketing dept wants to rethink that one...
-
TXF comparisons aside, there's also The Eleventh Hour, another show about people trying to fight abuses of science coming to Fall on CBS. Going back further Strange World a show from X Files producer Howard Gordon also dealt with abuses of science and predated these shows by nine years.
-
Just happy to see colonel Daniels has landed on his feet since leaving The Wire.
-
scary.
-
...appears to be the only reason to watch this show. The rest of the characters look boring, and I'm not a big fan of the whole "introducing science fiction concepts into the real world" thing. I'll probably watch the pilot, and if it doesn't wow me I'll stop watching.
-
funny to see Joshua Jackson working
-
It seems cool one second, then lame the next. I dunno, I'll give it a shot, but I'm far less optimistic than I was before I saw this preview.
-
I'm amazed that some people don't get what's going on there. The studio is probably contractually obligated to put that in their promo materials, so more than likely they don't care if they've got the writers of Transformers writing their show, they're just doing their job.
-
1) Twin Peaks would still have died because it was too weird. Brilliant, but weird. 2) The X-files would have been more interesting, but wouldn't have had the shelf life and it has in reruns. 3) Alias wouldn't have shed viewers like it did towards the end.
-
She looks as if she has to have enough weight to carry us along with with some freaky stuff almost single handedly, certainly to begin with, so her acting and character will have to be interesting, subtle and not cliched. (Lance Reddick will be able to point Abrams to some top class acting talent via the Wire too.)<p> <p>But it certainly looks to be solid so far. Even the Whedon thing doesn't stink to high heaven of cheese yet. Some genuinly intriguing new stuff on the small screen.
-
I can't suspend my disbelief that that blonde chick is a hardcore FBI agent. Abrams is so Hollywood.
-
and I still don't know what your show is about?? Of course I'll give it a chance cause it's JJ. But the "from the writers who brought you... the scene where Transformers hide in a boy's backyard" doesn't exactly inspire confidence. On first glance, this show looks like it's trying too hard
-
one just aint enuf...im going through serious the wire withdrawal
-
...and I have to admit that I always had a soft spot for Joshua Jackson as an actor. I rooted for him and Tom Cruise's wife and I'm glad to see him move into a more adult role. Also, glad to see Abrams doing something different like producing a show involving a mysterious crashed airline and that black guy from Lost.
-
everytime i hear him speak, i get chills up my spine...and charlotte rampling is in the pilot..so thats cool...and the writers of transformers??? transformers had a script?? who knew
-
JarJar has to compete with "Dollhouse." <p> Was that Blair Brown in a scene? She got old. JarJar must be hoping for an "Altered States" connotative boost.
-
It's the black guy from The Wire who was in Lost.
-
Dumb ass. And he rocks. So does this trailer.

JJ is overrated, Alias Sucked, so did that other show is Lost is
by Stormwatcher
Lost is the best show bar none but all JJ did was direct some episodes, He so does not deserve credit for that.
-
The "black guy from the wire" seeing as how 75 percent of the show's entire cast is black.
-
Try finishing a show properly before you go starting new shit. Thank you.
-
All will depend on the details of the actual show. But that is a really good trailer.
-
She's cute but from the video she's looking like a blonde boot leg Sydney Bristow minus the acting skills of Garner. I'm going to give it a chance because I adored Seasons 1 and 2 of Alias (the Francie vs Sydney fight in season 2 owned Peter vs Sylar). Hopefully this show won't disappoint. Just iffy on the lead being likeable enough for me to keep tuning in.
-
google Bonanza, you heathen scum, you....christ, i hate being old, but this is fucking rediculous
-
who knew?
-
Geez, do all the people in these kind of shows have to be so boringly perfect? Even when they're flawed, they're perfect. Every fingernail, strand of hair, piece of clothing, pout, look, word spoken is so deliberate, so bloody perfect. They're always so goddamn serious. It's boring and utterly charmless.
-
HATES airplanes.
-
He was very heavily involved in creating the show. Probably the main guy. Damon Lindelof came in to help develop more of the story initially. He continued to executive produce while filming MI:3, but eventually Carlton Cuse was brought in and JJ basically stepped down. He still's gets a producers credit, but the day to day things that occur at Lost don't involve him anymore. So he directed the Pilot and wrote an episode of season 3. That is it.
-
I think John Noble and Riddick tells you there will be some solid acting from the start. And though Joshua Jackson looks bland teen fodder he may surprise.(or get killed)<p> <p>Remember some of the greatest actors on Lost were completely unexpected (Go Benry!)<p> <p>As for a it being a trailer for the Pilot Ep well, A/ The Pilot Ep is supposedly 10 Million so, yeah, I'd trailer it heavily. and B/ anyone who thinks fringe is goin to have an easily summarised story arc clearly hasn't been paying attention to Lost.<p> <p>Good. I wan't it complex and far from obvious.<p> <p>Personally I think it will try and subvert X-Files expectations yet keep the Twilighty Zone feel. From the little I can gather there may be some intriguing "mind-voyaging" via crazy scientists apparatus. That could prove interesting and extracting information from corpses via this method may well get quite freaky. Hard to tell much of anything about a series from a Pilot Trailer though but I for one welcome it above 10 New Ugly Betty Housewives type shows or 20 New Reality fests.<p> <p>P.S. Remember Wire fans Generation Kill is coming in July. :)
-
glad to see the best actor on tv back in a major role, not like his cameos in Lost aren`t cool, but the man deserves his own show. Hope Cedric and Ronnie are happy in TV heaven
-
...too bad it looks like he's just playing the black Skinner role, hopefully they'll give him more to do than that though. After Oz, The Wire and some guest shots on Lost it's cool to see him get a big money lead role on a network show. Cool to see fellow Oz alumni Kirk Acevedo too. And can't argue with the casting of vets like John Noble and Charlotte Rampling. But the lead actress unfortunately utterly fails to impress me there, in fact she comes off as decidedly dull...still, I'll watch and see.
-
ill torrent it. I gotta say..TV is getting better and better these days.
-
I'll give it a go but it doesn't look like it'll replace Lost, BSG or even Doctor Who in my favourite sci-fi tv list. Kinda looks like pieces of other better shows bolted together.<p>Nice look to it though. Very movie-like.
-
It's tonally and thematically quite different from the X-Files. I didn't even think about The X-Files until I read talkbacker postings, actually.<p> I'll tune in for it.
-
lets start a program with quirky supernatural/sci-fi undertones and not kill off the main character half way trough or otherwise ruin it and then cancel it after one season for poor ratings.
-
When the FBI boards the plane, Kumar and his smokeless bong bursts out of the lavatory? Yeah, I didn't think so either.
-
Reddick's Lost character (according to IMDB) is Matthew Abaddon... Anyone ever look up just what Abaddon means? (Sorry, know this has nothing to do with Fringe, which looks alright to me, but who cares what I think?) Cheers.
-
but this looks cool. Let's hope it's not another Alias (great set-ups with profoundly disappointing reveals).
-
I know they filmed the pilot here in Toronto. Are they filming the whole series here?
-
but is nowhere near David Lynch.
-
It means the Destroyer. Subbosedly a Demon or Dark Angel. (And I suspect the human incarnation of Smokezilla)
-
No, that's the black guy from The Wire. He's doing a bit part on Lost, but what you just said is like seeing Robert De Niro and saying 'hey isn't that the guy from Hide and Seek?'.
-
It's a shame it will probably take hollywood years to realize he should be 'the main guy' of all the shows he's in rather than a character actor. Sadly, he suffers from the same affliction that Yaphet Kotto had of being 'too black'...Kotto once said that even black people cross the street when they see him coming.

95lb hot blond FBI agent going to save the world...lol.
by Sappers Forward
"I've been trained for a lot"...lol. This would have actually worked if they had just used a believable protagonist. Just like Hilary was going to save America...lol.
-
There were enough of those dangling threads from Alias to fuel another show.

Let's try and cram another "Transformers had writers!?" joke in!
by Angry Mean Panda
It was funny the first time. Not so much the 30th.
-
but the content not so much. Gonna have to wait for the consensus on this.
-
...would totally rock in the role of the female FBI agent. This actress is fine, though. Maybe I'm still getting over the still-born "Veronica Mars: FBI" series proposal :(
-
at the end of the trailer: "See the exciting new show on Fox that will be cancelled by Fox two weeks after airing." Heh.......
-
no thanks.
-
YES!!!!!
-
If the show is as much of a dick tease as that 'trailer' was, count me out. I don't think I can deal with another slow moving serial where the characters forget to ask obvious, vital questions just so the writers can stretch their one idea out over 5 seasons. And I'm a Lost fan. I will give this a try, but the first MOMENT it seems like the circle jerk that the X-Files became or that some episodes of Lost have been, I'm dropping it.
-
... and any kind of overall story or concept. They did get a pretty good cast, however.
-
Yeah I said it...
-
wouldn't need much plot, just great HiDef imagery.<p>"Fox on Fox!" catchy, eh? buncha suits at Fox are running to get this greenlit right now.<p>back on topic, this looks like it has potential--until Alias went stupid, it had a lot of potential: if JJ stays with this, instead of handing it off, like Alias, it might have legs.
-
...was played by the beautiful Mia Maestro, and the most unforgivable sin of the final season was sidelining her with the coma. Guess Jennie G couldn't stand having someone more beautiful than her on the show. They killed off Melissa George for the same reason, no doubt.
