Zap2It Has Script Reviews For Fox’s Two Hottest New Shows – J.J. Abrams’ FRINGE and Joss Whedon’s DOLLHOUSE!!

Published at:  May 13, 2008 3:55:39 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Zap2It has pilot script reviews for “Fringe,” the new J.J. Abrams sci-fi pilot starring Joshua Jackson and “Dollhouse,” the new Joss Whedon sci-fi pilot starring Eliza Dushku. Both are going to series next season on Fox.

Says the site:

A good pilot should do one of two things: It should either lay out the blueprint for the rest of the series or it should intrigue you so much that you can't wait for the second episode. Fringe falls into the first category. It leaves almost nothing to the imagination in terms of what's coming next. Dollhouse falls into the second category.

Screen Actors Guild permitting, Fox is expected to premiere “Fringe” in the fall and “Dollhouse” at midseason. The netlet unveils its 2008-2009 schedule Thursday afternoon.

Megan Fox's rack + Whedon script = Dushku's rival Doll

    by spud mcspud

You know this could work. Megan Fox as evil nemesis to Dushku's heroic Echo. I explode with orgasmic joy. Mrs Spud-To-Be leaves and moves in with Lost Jarv.

I'd still watch THAT show, though. The Fox/Dushku one, not the Mrs Spud2B and Jarv one >:(

    FRINGE and DOLLHOUSE

    by spud mcspud

DOLLHOUSE has got me - that could really work. The philosophy of identity made the Bourne movies pop, and gave them a gravitas they otherwise might not have had. And it's Whedon - he got a lot of goodwill from me with FIREFLY, which is almost perfect. I'm there with bells on.

FRINGE... meh. Could be interesting, and might actually do something with that abandoned Rambaldi plot in ALIAS, but sounds an awful lot like reheated X-FILES to me. Great to see Noble back., but Jackson? Has he made anything decent since the Creek? And FREAKYLINKS did the post-X-FILES X-FILES thing so much better - Ethan Embry is fantastic and Lisa Sheridan is the best-kept secret in hottie history. She was Evangeline Lilly even before Evangeline Lilly was Evangeline Lilly.

So, in short: DOLLHOUSE sounds awesome (and no I'm not a Whedonmaniac), FRINGE sounds okay-to-meh, and we fucking demand a FREAKYLINKS DVD box set RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!

Question: Does Dushku have the acting chops for this?

    by smerdyakov

I mean, playing a slut, we know she can do, but the rest?

  • As long as the script review wasn't hyperbole or the reviewer wasn't Herc in disguise it certainly sounds like material requiring too much attention for Fox. Hell, I was worried enough that the first episode didn't spell everything out; mixing it with cerebral concepts sounds like a death wish

    Terrible...

    by skull1138

What...Whedon is a fucking hack, he raped my childhood

Abrams has totally lost it because he is over a certain age, this will be ghastly and terrible and all that stuff that everyone says about every other story on here.

Someone will start it, so thought I might as well, theres always an asshole everywhere

Although people like Abrams, even though MI3 was incredibly shit, and Alias faded away to shiteness after series 3

Whedon lost it when they cancelled Buffy and Angel, that firefly gash was absolutle rank rotten, so was the movie
but uinlike most others on this site, I will give things a chance and judge for myself, so will watch both and see what they are like, could be another LOST and/or Buffy/Angel.
the start of this post, was just an impression of the normal biloe that is spewed by talkbackers.

Teenage geeky ass bandits the lot of them

    by genpion

Both these shows sound like they could be awesome... let's not resign to them being canceled before they have even aired their pilots. We should give them a chance. Then maybe Fox will too.

You do realize this is FOX we're talking about right? Fox does very little to develop or promote a show unless it's another shitty reality series or a ratings monster from episode one. I really want to see both of these shows but I'll just wait until they come out on DVD and get renewed for a few years because I'm tired of investing anymore of my time in something they're going to yank off air after two episodes.

You know what? I think the world is ready for an X-Files clone.

    by zillabeast

I'm not talking about LOST, either. I mean something that literally emulates what Chris Carter did for all those years. It's no secret that JJ is a huge fan of the franchise, so I think he will respectfully add his own touches here to continue what he loved in his own way.

is a hack. He copies so much shit and turns it into crap. Fringe will suck just like Lost, MI3, and Alias.

I feel exactly the same way. After the way Fox screwed up Sliders/Wonderfalls/Firefly and other shows, I cringe whenever i hear they are putting out a show I may be interested in. They will screw it up or cancel it...or possibly screw it up then cancel it.

    Sliders, No

    by _maltheus_

But you can add Profit and Action to that list. Profit was up there with Dexter, in my book. And Action was the last new funny show to come to Fox.

ok off topic but its J.J. related...

    by bouncy x

im in the middle of listening to the season 2 soundtrack for Alias and i noticed something interesting in the CD case...this one photo has the following numbers on it : 16-8-1523 those are also part of "the numbers" from Lost. i guess they must have some special significance for J.J. just though that was creepy and cool.

Dollhouse is Whedon's response to BSG

    by killamajig

It sounds like both his response to, and adaptation after BSG in themes and tone
