Eric Stoltz Will Play The Inventor Of The Cylons!!

Published at:  May 12, 2008 12:27:51 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Eric Stoltz, the Jesusy-looking drug dealer from “Pulp Fiction” who almost starred as Marty McFly in “Back To The Future,” will play Daniel Greystone – the genius who creates the Cylon race in “Caprica.”

The TV-movie pilot prequel to “Battlestar Galactica” has also cast Alessandra Toressani (“Malcolm in the Middle”) as both Greystone’s 16-year-old daughter and the First Cylon.

If “Caprica” goes to series, Stoltz’ character will continue to play a central role.

    A skinjob!!!!

    by dc films

As IAmMrMonkey! also pointed out, in BSG myth the 'skinjobs' were created 'off-Caprica' by the Cylons (though no one knows how). I guess that the producers thought that a BSG movie/series without skinjobs would be pretty dull, so they're exploiting the 'No One Knows How' mystery to say "Hey, guess what guys, skinjobs were actually invented secretly on Caprica buy the Pulp Fiction bloke - ain't that irony!!!" Well they they have to spice Caprica up, just don't fuck up the BSG legend you've created - don't muddy it. You have to trust them though, since their making the best TV i've ever seen!

    by thedarklinglord

I can't say I was all that interested in 'Caprica' because neither the cast nor the overall premise impressed me, but casting a grossly underrated actor like Eric Stoltz in a major role is exactly what this project needed. Stoltz is one of those actors who, whenever I learn he's involved in a project, makes me giddy. He's generally better in roles with a bit of a comedic edge to them (anyone remember his recurring cameo in "Mad About You"?), and I hope it's something the writers mix into his character. They've had some great moments in BSG with wit and sarcasm. They're few and far between, but they were also superbly written. If we get the same quality writing with 'Caprica' then this should kick ass.

    Timeline...

    by furzee

First off, I am not a hater. I love BSG and what they do week to week far surpasses nost network and cable shows in depth, character development and action. Having said that, doesn't it seem like they are rushing the timeline a bit? 50 years doesn't seem like it fits in with the time frame they've already established just to throw in some original names like Adama etc. I'm hoping they do this logically. The casting of Stoltz is a great move, though. Dude can act, and if they can work the words 'Dont Be Bringing Some Fucked Up Cheeba To My Basestar' into the pilot, well, that would be great...

    by performingmonkey

OK, maybe the Cylon's aren't meant to age (is that even confirmed?) but what if Zoe, this guy's 16-year-old daughter is Six but younger-looking? Whatever, I don't get how this can fit into BSG mythology. If this guy created the Cylons it kind of takes away the mystery of the current BSG situation.

"the Cylons were created 50 years ago"

    by newc0253

when i first heard about the timeline, i was kinda skeptical. it didn't seem long enough to have led to (1) their use throughout the colonies; (2) their revolt throughout the colonies; and (3) their long absence and evolution.
but then, stop to think about what our world was like 50 years ago:
    * the average computer was the size of a small car, but with less memory than your cell phone.
    * airlines were just introducing those new fangled jet aircraft on a wide scale, to replace the ones with propellers.
    * most of the world still didn't have television and, in those countries that did, the picture was in black and white.
    * the British still ruled Palestine/Israel (okay, just barely).
So, yes, I think 50 years is enough of a gap.

Awesome! Eric Stoltz is still alive!

    by series7

Kick ass, he was amazing in Fly 2! He was even better in Harvard Man and The Honeymooners! Seriously, Stoltz and Tim Roth must be pissed that Tarantino pretty muched stoped making movies for awhile. They both got recognized in Zoe/Dawgs/Pulp and got roles in Rob Roy. Then pretty much nothing, until now! Hulk and BSG. Stoltz just never gets the same luck as the other actors who become big after their ensemble movies that hit (he was in Fast Times in Rigemont high as well as Pulp fiction, both of which started a lot of careers (he didn't get Travolta's luck with re-starting it either). Will call it the luck of the red heads, because Cole Hauser was in Dazed and Confused and Pitch Black, but is not well known. Granted not everyone in Pitch Black is huge but Vin got big and Radha Mitchell seems to be in a lot of good movies these days. I wonder if Harry has the same problem? I mean this site was on like all the There Will Be Blood Posters, and still not everyone knows about it.

The final cylon model is humanity

    by hervoyel

It's the human race who inhabit the 12 colonies (or at least at this point it's the remaining survivors of that group). Remember that all of this has happened before and all of it will happen again and everybody, whether they are cylon or "human" knows this. Everyone also knows about earth regardless of which side they're on as well. I think that's because the humans have led the cylons to earth many times before. I believe that we're going to learn that the cylons were invented by man at some point in the distant past and that they did in fact fight a war with their creators and they won it. They followed the rest of humanity to the final colony and destroyed it as well. Then, taking the remaining bits of mankind they began their evolutionary move toward skin jobs. At the same time I think they intentionally recreated humanity in the 12 colonies and they "injected" the stories and themes necessary to start a slow "replay" of past events. I think we'll see that there's some purpose for this and that every time they get a little closer to their goal of becoming human. Notice what a big deal they made about the cylon-human hybrid but none of the revealed four has paid much thought to the chief's daughter? If it was so tough for a human and a cylon to breed then how does the chief knock a baby out with Callie so easy? He does it because the "four" are models from the last batch that are the proverbial hair away from being really human. The "humans" in this are the end result of thousands or maybe even a hundred thousand years of cylon study and development. They're in a loop and every time it completes the "cylons" set up "humanity" to begin anew and then pull away from them to observe. Then they nudge them along to the point where "cylons" are invented (again) and it all starts over.

    Too stupid?

    Continuity?

    by hairy nutsack

The Cylons were created as tools, all sorts of different kinds of robots that served specific functions such as cooks, janitors, and other menial stuff. They weren't all war machines like the Centurions, there were different models that served different functions. They aren't called toasters just because they're shiny!
But now we're getting a retread of A.I.? I can't believe the same creative team came up with something this far outside of their own continuity that is a rehash of motherfucking Astroboy and the Blue Fairy. L A M E

    by nohubris

...they'll need to include some aspect of the current show. A Godfather Part II type structure (i.e. Michael Corleone story interspersed with Vito Corleone's story) could be interesting where we go to the future to periodically join the fleet or the Cylon world such as a basestar, Cylon-occupied Caprica and so forth, then go back to the CAPRICA prequel era.

the Cylons weren't created 50 years ago - the ARMISTICE had lasted 50 years and they'd been fighting for fuck knows how long before that?
Bill was a rookie - still in his teens when the cease fire was declared and now he's an "old man" in his sixties - so does this show fit in with the continuity of EITHER old or new BSG exactly?

    by nohubris

I recall two related points from the mini series: (1) the armistice lasted for OVER forty years and (2)someone said (don't remember which character) that 50 years ago or so was the EARLY days of the Cylon War. The Cylons had to be created, developed and produced in mass quantity WAY before that.
