Fox Is Taking Its J.J. Abrams, Mitch Hurwitz and Jason Bateman Projects To Series!!

Published at:  May 11, 2008 12:29:57 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Fox doesn’t announce its fall slate until Thursday, but producers of “Fringe,” “Sit Down, Shut Up” and “The Inn” have apparently already learned the netlet is taking their pilots to series.

“Fringe,” from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot (“Alias,” “Lost”), is about a hot FBI girl who teams with a troubled scientist to investigate a growing wave of paranormal activity.

“Sit Down, Shut Up,” from Mitch Hurwitz (“Arrested Development”), is an animated sitcom about a dysfunctional high school faculty.

“The Inn,” whose pilot was directed by Jason Bateman, is about a fancy New York hotel’s staff. It was created by “Arrested Development” writer Abraham Higginbotham and stars Jerry O’Connell (“Carpoolers”).

There’s also word that Fox is ditching its Kelsey Grammar broadcast-news sitcom “Back To You.”

Read all of Variety’s story on these matters here.

    by senatorjeffersonsmith

Whats the over/under on any of these shows? 6-8 episodes I imagine.
Glad Back To You is going off air though...then I can go back to remembering Kelsey Grammer fondly as Frasier Crane and not some hack sharing a laugh track with Pat Heaton.

    by soup74

now, if fox will stick to building on these shows, i think they'll start making a line-up that can compete with the big three networks.

Why clone X-files with Fringe...just call it X-files

    by shub-wankalot

Abrams is laughing all the way to the bank, convincing the studio hotshots about his original concept of a paranormal duo investigators. He's stretching his credibility as a writer and becoming a hack in short order.

They're ditching "Back to You?" NOOOOOO!

    by yeti

How will Kelsey Grammar keep his Trophy Wife in the style she's become accostomed to? (Those boob-jobs and chemical peels aren't cheap you know!)
And how will right-wing wing-nut Patrica Heading be able to weigh in on issues that don't concern her without having a current project to sell to get on talk shows in the first place?
    Oh, the humanity!

Let me guess...when a liberal nut like Alec Baldwin or Barbara Streisand weighs in on issues that don't concern them, it's OK then?

I have faith in Mitchell Hurwitz, however there is no doubt he's going to get fucked royally by those greedy bastards at Fox. I'm still hoping for an Arrested Development movie.

    by zooch

They've hired the best guys working in television to make shows for them, Ronald D. Moore's "Virtuality", Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse", and now J.J. Abrams' "Fringe". I'm pretty pumped for all of them.

It;s funny about the stem cell research debate

    by han cholo

Because when a high profile right-winger is saved by the benefits of stem cells, they are going to do a total 180 and act like they championed research all along. Trust me, it's going to happen.
