The V FOR VENDETTA Director Is In For A REVELATION!!
Merrick here...
James McTeigue, director of V FOR VENDETTA (whoo hoo), the currently-in-production NINJA ASSASSIN (Wachowskis + martial arts? Who would've thunk it?), and the good parts of THE INVASION (there were a few), is now attached to REVELATION.
Story centers on a female journalist who is assigned to investigate a series of bizarre murders and discovers that the victims were all being treated by the head of an org that researches alien abductions.
...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.
John Salvati wrote the script.

about the Bible. Oh well.
-
I can't read those Crystal Skull reviews. I did a little and regretted it.
-
... is responsible for the good bits of The Invasion. But most of what he did was never shown, since Joel Silver decided to fuck him over and get James and Wachowski's to "spice things up".
-
he'll cast ellen paige and make her shave her head
-
V for Vendetta was brilliant!
-
Pros: this sounds like a great concept.
Cons: There were GOOD bits in THE INVASION?!?!?
Though this does sound like the epic DTV classic PROGENY, by my hero Brian Yuzna and the immortal Arnold Vosloo ("I don't get angry. I'm a professional." in the only decent Van Damme flick EVER).
Could be very cool though. Remember THE FORGOTTEN? Those abduction shots still freak me the fuck out, and now the open sky makes me very nervous. -
Was very good indeed. Didn't wimp out, got a lot of the British touches right, great non-Hollywood casting for the supporting players and a note perfect dig at bird flu and panic media. Quality popcorn.
-
Thought the movie was ok. But a bunch of people I know say its there most favorite movie ever? IDK I always thought it was funny how the British celebrated Guy Fawkes day. Then again they also celebrate boxing day. With that said, I reiterate my philosophy that foreign directos need to stay PUT! If they do make the trip to hollywoodland they get one chance to proove that they can work it American Style with the big budgets and fancy cars. If it sucks (Invasion, Derailed) then they have to go back to there homeland and continue making great movies there. I know there are success stories (Del Toro, Paul Verhoven) but Oliver Hirschbiegel please go home. Lets see how Timur Bekmambetov fares this summer, though if there was anything else I betted on besides black, it would be his ability to make a decent big hollywood movie.
-
Everybody knows that it was McTeigues stuff that kept Invasion away from being watchable, cat hater.
BTW, I love the first half of V For Vendetta, but then it falls apart and becomes an annoying piece of crap. -
Who was non hollywood in V?
-
No, I think you missed the point completely by viewing it as a right vs left movie, meaning that YOU can't see the forest for the trees. V for Vendetta was an excellent flick. The only downside is that now every stupid teenage psuedo-anarchist runs around in that Guy Fawkes mask. I think they're the ones that really missed the point of the movie.
-
but that's what happens when you get a hack in to direct.
-
Surely it can't be just me and the other 2 or 3 people that have posted above that think it was, ya know, shit? Guess I am not intelligent enough to "get it" or something.
-
...looks like they plagiarized another of his goofball novels (actually, this time a graphic novel called The Nye Incidents).
-
Pure and simple.

If you can go along with the updating of V for Vendetta...
by rbatty024
then it's a really good film. I can understand if you, like myself, read the comic book before the film but were unable to go alone with the updated issues. Personally, I went along with it and had a good time. It's the best adaptation of Moore's work to date, and judging by what I've seen of The Watchman, it will remain the best adaptation for some time.
-
It was beautiful to look at but oddly unmoving. There have been so many of these lone revolutionary against the totalitarian system movies (like Equilibrium) that V kind of gets lost in the crowd.
-
Is TDK out ,yet?
-
I recommend it in a double bill with CHILDREN OF MEN. Both have similar TV propaganda inserts ('Only Britain Soldiers on' etc) But amazingly different in texture. Much as I think CHILDREN is pure movie heaven, V FOR VENDETTA stands up as equally enjoyable, and full of exhilarating ideas...
-
V FOR VENDETTA = V for WHAT?
-
Doesn't mean I put absolute faith into the guy. But V was so great.
-
...about as good an adapation as you're gonna get from Hollywood. The only really stupid thing they did was have V use f***in' Fed Ex (!), complete with a Fed Ex product placement (!!!), to mail V-Masks to everyone so they could have their big street protest outside the exploding House of Parliament. Pretty dumb.

It had serious problems. Stephen Rea's policeman had absolutely nothing to do but look miserable and plod about. He didn't really solve anything. And why the hell was HE one of the inner party? Why did they cast the hideous, snaggle-toothed John Hurt as Chancellor (urgh) Sutler (double-urgh) when they had Roger Allam, who was the dog's bollocks for about ten minutes and then was boringly dead. Stephen Fry's comedy skit was agonisingly bad, so awful that you actually wanted Mr Creedy (Tim Pigott Smith: excellent) to black-bag him.
The whole shiny new London of Tony Blair just didn't work. New Labour is NOT fascism. You can't have proper totalitarianism without the filth and grime of economic catastrophe. What, the USA is a leper colony and London still has waste-paper baskets and water coolers? Please. If they had got Curaon to do V like Children of men, it would have been a classic. The problem was that it was a movie about fascism, concentration camps, nerve gas, murder, anarchism, bombing, rape and terror that was filmed for a PG13 audience. You can't do that. -
Because they've only ever had centre-right governments. They have NO experience of communism, socialism or fascism. Sorry, but that is the case. I'm tired of having to listen to the 'difference' between Hillary 'obliterate Iran' and John 'Bomb bomb bomb, Iran' from American voters. They're all the same. and they will be, until the US collapses as a viable state.
-
Can we get a post about this travesty in the making so I can flame?
In the meantime - I loved V for Vendetta and the Matrix Reloaded. -
What about Hamlet/Requieme for a Dream/Fight Club/Purfume, just to name a few? And all those books didn't have pictures as an aid.
-
...go Google "North American Union," and then cringe as we switch from the dollar to the Amero and slowly move toward one world gov't.
-
The Arrival. Not a bad fiendish plot, really.
Now will the aliens have actual personalities or be collective again? -
"They have NO experience of communism, socialism or fascism"
What the fuck are you talking about? ..No better yet, just fuck off.

I've been to 48 US states. I have family in three. I stay in the US for at least a month every year and every year it's like falling into a coma when I get off the plane. People in suburbs on meds watching TV and bleating about the political system. People who have never known a hunger pang; who are literally overfed at every hour of every day. people who measure the distance they walk every day in inches.
And then I go home, to where people aren't on Xanax, obese, driving from house to mall and back again without getting a sniff of fresh air.
hold on; back to my point; when was the last time that an American utility was nationalised? That's the lowest rung of socialism.
WATCHING OTHER COUNTRIES DOESN'T COUNT. -
You suck!
-
My parents won't give the car; the fascists. The police are fascists. FOX is fascist. Georeg Bush doesn't even have the guts to say ONE BAD THING about gay people and you think he's going to declare martial law, suspend the constitution and make himself Fuhrer? No, sorry; checks and balances. I agree that things are worse in the US than they've been for ages but you are still one VERY unregulated society, that politics is totally corrupted by lobbyists but the situation is closer to the hobbling sprawl of Later Rome than a proper fascist state.

Maybe you should look at Euro suicide rates and try Xanax..
by jackrabbitslim
According to this weeks Economist magazine (hardly a pro-Yankee propaganda rag) the chart on page 52 clearly indicates suicide rates for France, Canada, Germany, Britain. and (of course) Japan are all significantly higher than the USA, Frances being 150% that of the New Worlders. Maybe they should try some antidepressants over there
-
... what about 'em? What the heck are we talkin' about, here anyway? Strieber books? Something related to V for Vendetta? Sorry for my confusion... been a long day...
-
..."my meetress, she 'as lef' me! Now, I 'ave zyust zee wife!" BLAM!!!
-
don't do nothing for me. That is all.
-
You said V is ...about as good an adapation as you're gonna get from Hollywood. And i was just wondering what you thought about those other movies that I feel were better adaptations.
-
Hopefully more X-Files than the Invasion
-
I cracked up at the part where Portman in her Bo Peep costume seduced the priest. Just a terrible, ugly movie.
"Children of Men" put me to sleep. -
I orriginally read, "Story centers on a female journalist who is assigned to investigate a series of bizarre murders and discovers that the victims were all being treated by the head of a DOG that researches alien abductions."That would be an awesome movie. Make that instead.
-
What's with all these alien conspiracy movies?Maybe the "powers that be" are trying to tell us something...dun, dun, dunnnnn!Hehe...I'm kidding of course :-D Bring it on. I'd be curious to see McTiegue's first movie away from the Wachowski Brothers.
-
sounds like it.
-
Damn You Michael Bay
-
I'm surprised you guys are so positive about that one. Children of Men was about 10 times the movie that V was trying to be. The original comic book was great, but the movie was the typical Moore adaptation. I was really hoping for a better movie version, and felt completely underwhelmed after walking out of the theater. Portman and Agent Smith were good, I guess, but the stuff with John Hurt, and especially the end, was just blech.
-
and I just got finished watching it for the umpteenth time the other night. Thats about all I have to say.
-
Just a sub-par, godawful, disposable popcorn flick with laughable pretensions of being "relevant." It's even worse when you consider how mind-fuckingly brilliant and nuanced the source material is. But leaving that aside, the film taken on its own merits is a piece of crap. Shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as the feat of dystopian brilliance that was Children of Men.
-
the stole the story of the first Matrix, laid the biggest turds in cinematic history with the shitfuck sequels, and V for Vendetta was only loved because its a liberal revenge wank fantasy. it was shit and you know it.
-
Is one of the worst things to happen to the modern anarchist movement in living memory. All those stupid attempts to tie everything into current politics is gonna date that motherfucker faster than the special effects in Resident Evil.
-
The Wachowski/McTiegue reshoots RUINED that movie.
