Sony heads to the MOON with Sam Rockwell!

Published at:  May 06, 2008 2:54:46 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I actually visited this production when I was in London a couple months back... on my way to the airport I swung by Shepperton and spent a couple hours checking out what they had going on and it looks really damn good. I'll have that set visit report to you soonish.

It's a sci-fi flick about a man stuck on the moon with nobody but his clone to keep him company. There was a real effort to make this a lived in space... the sets looked a lot like the original Alien. I'm not exactly sure the tone, but they have some of the best people working on the model work and avoiding CG.

MOON is an indie flick and Sony just picked up the rights to distribute to all English-speaking territories. Congrats to director Duncan Jones and the group who produced this. Rockwell is awesome and I can't wait to see what the this project ends up being!

Grrr... Between this and The Ditch...

    by bass bastardson

...one of my long-sat-upon story ideas is looking less and less viable. Memo to self - if you have an idea, actually write it before someone else has a similar idea and actually gets it made. Of course, now I guess I could pitch my idea as in that horrible Hollywood fashion - "It's the Ditch meets The Moon".

Every time I cut and paste a post, I wind up mangling the phrasing. I wish there was an edit button, or an "approve post" window that let you see the whole message before finalizing it. Then maybe I wouldn't sound like quite as big of an illiterate moron. Anyway, there's an extra "as" in my previous post... and now I've gone and made a big deal about it. I should just shut up.

Duncan Jones is David Bowie's son

Formerly known as Zowie Bowie. It seems like the talent is hereditary. Sounds like a cool flick and with old school model work no less. i'm in.

Hopefully Rockwell will do a better job than his Zaphod

    by photoboy

I was really surprised at how weak his Zaphod was in the H2G2 movie, I'd expected him to totally knock it out the park. Admittedly, the idea of hiding Zaphod's second head fatally knee-capped the part anyway, but I still expected Rockwell to get the swagger and ego right.

Still, this could be pretty cool with the right story.

It would be pretty cool if the clone is a retard like in Multiplicity, and Sam plays him Galaxy Quest style.

but he is becoming the actor who plays himself in every movie. He is like an odd combination of Jack Nicholson and Bill Murray (who I just saw at Whole Foods the other day, it was really bizzar). The only movie I've seen him in that was almost different then everything else he's done was Joshua (good film as well).

    Space on a budget? EASY!!!

    by darth macchio

Just go to the kids aisle in any grocery store...buy a shitload of black construction paper (the really thick but still papery stuff)...take a sharpened pencil and punch holes in the paper. Push the pencil in further to make big stars or planets...poke only tiny holes to make far away stars. Then tape all the holy construction paper to the windows of your double-wide trailer and then during the day...voila! instant space out the window. Also...cover the interior with tin foil and then baby powder and brown sugar. Makes badass sci-fi hallways and walls. Then...attach a plate to your head via bungee, etc, and voila...you're a fucking alien!!Rockwell is the shit in everything he does...I still think he was one of the best things of the otherwise fizzling Hitchhiker's movie (don't panic) contrary to other TB'ers. Zooey Deschanel is definitely cute but she sounds like she's speaking around a mouthful of soda or something. Mos Def was great as Ford and the guy who played Arthur was...meh. Of course the genius of Bill Nighy cannot be stopped. I still think Rockwell mostly stole the show for Galaxy Quest. Him and Tony Shaloud anyway (Shaloub is one of the most understated comedic actors that nobody knows).

He wa s great in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. He was the creepiest sas man you ever did see. He plays great hicks, hillbillies, white trash and criminals and other assorted lowlifes. I loved him in HHTTG, unlike a lot of folks. I don't know who he was channeling but I was entertained.

Indie doesn't mean low budget and it never has. It means independent financing was the money. It could be $1,000 borrowed from mom and pop or it could be millions from your own bank account, George Lucas style. It just means independent from the studio system.

Yeah, and he and some others around here are one of the reasons this site is turning into what it has become. A less and less talkative place. Seems like all there are is kids playing here now a days and another reason why the main writers hardly ever answer questions in the talk backs now. Seems like either someone is posting that has nothing to do with the premise of the topic or promoting somethign for themselves, or hollering and screaming at each other with insults that make no sense whatsoever. I wish there was a way they could star banning people for doing some of these things, because honestly, Harry, Quint, Moriarty, you all are losing some major fans from your site and they are going else where do to the nonsense that takes place in the talk backs. And I am actually a person that likes to hear peopls opinions and speculations, just not children doing it.... Anthony
