Ryan Rotten’s Got Some Interesting CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON News!
Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. I like the online horror community a lot. Everyone knows everyone, and even though a number of sites compete for scoops and exclusives, I still get a sense that everyone is united in their love of the genre. One of the guys I’ve always enjoyed reading and talking to over the years is Ryan Rotten, who has seemingly written for every site on the planet except ours. These days, he’s the high poobah of ShockTillYouDrop.com, and he managed to get some very cool news about the long-in-gestation CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON remake:
Sounds like this shit's finally going to happen: Designer, FX house named! Ryan "Rotten" Turek

Damnit!
-
I kinda want to see this remade
-
Universal has to have a print of the 3D version somewhere or else I wouldn't have been able to get my hands on an old ass VHS copy that had the original 3D version on it (thank you very much Movie Gallery).
-
And I could have sworn I saw something for True Lies 2 and now both are gone off the site. WTF?
-
is a cool dude. we spent an hour or so shooting the shit on the roof of the standard downtown while waiting for jessica alba to arrive so we could talk to her for 8.5 minutes about The Eye (the 2nd worst movie of the year next to Prom Night -- sorry couldn't resist) and let me tell you, that dude knows horror movies. the arrow ain't got nothin' on him.
-
As in the movie? I loved that movie what was the article about?
-
someone saying they saw a parade that had Ewan Mcg and the tall man in it. The story had a link and it was a rumor about a possible sequel.

Gone off the site.

Geek-out!
-
Oh wait that sounds racist..lol..
-
Are am I mistaken...
-
OR am I mistaken.
-
Updated special effects will not make it a better movie when the original film is more than that. Did you nancy-boys learn nothing from Burton's Planet of the Apes or the various remakes of King Kong?
-
at least for the close ups, obviously lots of CG for underwater and action scenes. the gill man/ merman was my favorite creature when I was a kid, so I hope this is good...
-
The original is pure joy. Why fuck with it? Oh yeah, money.... right. Anyhoo, I hope they at least get the folks who made Abe Sapien for the Hellboy movie to do this.
-
can play Jason's mom in the unncessary remake of FRIDAY THE 13TH (a pretty sorry franchise to begin with). Bill Clinton could play a "playboy" politician (married, of course) whose promiscuity prompts Jason's wrath. Nice cameo. Hillary could reprise her role in the sequels; in another month or two she'll--as usual--have nothing to do. By the way, Ben Chapman--who played the original CREATURE OF BLACK LAGOON (dryland scenes)--passed away a few weeks ago.

I concur with your thoughts on Ryan. I see him at any and every "horror" type event I get sent to as well. I was also up there on the Standard roof. I was the guy who asked ALba if I could have her fries after the interview. (You might have been with the other group, though). Anyway, I had fun on the roof with all the horror guys (even if you all did see Grindhouse the day before and couldn't stop talking about it) but that was a waste of a day. A set visit to watch Alba play blind as she exits a cab. Ooooohhh.. Hollywood magic!
-
and I hate people that "know horror".
-
was tedious but had some good cgi ape stuff.
-
worked because of the era in which it was made (amazingly well, I might add). Make something new, don't ruin something that's not.

Just pull the creature from Monster Squad out of mothballs. That was a cool ass monster!
-
put some green paint on him and he's it! he has the frog lips and everything!
-
This will be too.
-
Why mess with perfection? I love the originals here. Leave The Thing, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and The Crazies ALONE! Come up with YOUR OWN IDEAS!!!!
-
They cast Diora Baird as the female lead. Imagine the swimsuit... (drooling, drooling)
-
I wouldn't mind this remake if only it gets more people to watch the original. Scared the hell outta me when I was younger. Still kind of does. Exposing a new audience to that would be great. At least until they find out it's black and white, and want to jump off a roof.
-
With them getting to the island. A little pre-amble with the map and chatting about the film makers legal and financial troubles, all done in under 5 minutes, and then we're done. All the exposition in the first hour accomplished nothing. Can't recreate the exposition of the classic Kong, so why try? Just get right to the giant monkey.
-
Best thing about Kong 2005 was that they set it back in the original time frame. If The Creature of the Black Lagoon is set in the 50s, they've already done one thing right, in my book.

..was the fucking mind blowing hottness of Jessica Lange back in '76. If you don't believe me go and watch it again. Years before the aeorbics and years before "Daisy Dukes" and the sheer crazy hottness and beauty of Jessica Lange was all over the screen. Plus...she's a very talented actor which makes her a pleasure to watch on pretty much all levels. Granted, she's done some crazy roles very good justice and thus seems a little crazy herself and I realize I'm being horribly shallow here but I don't give a shit. She's perfect in that movie...perfect.
-
It would be awesome if they added a little H.P.L. to the story line..."Deep Ones" maybe?
-
I've been busy, couldn't post it until now. Anyhow went looking in my archive. Found production artwork from one of the aborted 1990s remakes. http://tinyurl.com/63w9ty
