Regency Faces DANGEROUS DAYS!!

Published at:  May 02, 2008 8:33:55 AM CDT

Merrick here...

New Regency has optioned a soon to be published book called THE DANGEROUS DAYS OF DANIEL X, by James Patterson (ALONG CAME A SPIDER, KISS THE GIRLS, and a ton of other stuff - HERE's a list).

Described as an action adventure, "Daniel X" chronicles the adventures of a conflicted yet extraordinary teen who yearns to discover secrets about himself and his family as he battles alien outlaws who threaten life on Earth.

...says THIS ARTICLE in Hollywood Reporter.

The project will be be Exec Produced by Patterson, Steve Bowen (an effects guy/editorial dude), and Leopoldo Gout.

The book will hit shelves in July, and can be pre-ordered HERE.

I wonder if the title is a deliberate nod to BLADE RUNNER, whose original title was DANGEROUS DAYS?

    Premise

    by palimpsest

Daniel X works alone. Having watched from the shadows as the brutal murder of his own parents unfolded before him, he has been forced to make his own way in a dark and unforgiving world with a heavy task handed to him. Daniel's father was an alien hunter, working his way through a fearsome 'wanted' list of aliens intent on seeking control and wreaking devastation. But as he planned his next target, his own time was running out. Following his parents' sudden deaths, Daniel faced an uncertain future: he knew little about his family nor where he came from but a few things were clear, he had inherited the list from his father and a unique ability to create anything that he needs including some very devoted friends to help him along the way. His life has become dedicated to the mission. Every day has been transformed into a terrifying hunt, watching each step he takes for danger awaits around every corner and lurks within the shadows. His ultimate aim is to exact revenge against number 1 on his list: his parents' murderer. But first he must target the others: each more sinister and gruesome than the last. - according to wikipedia anyways...

Patterson is such a horrible hack

    by major hockshtetter

It boggles the mind how this guy continues to sell so many books. Granted his subject matter is sordid enough to garner interest from the dim bulbs who "read" him but good lord... I love how Stephen King takes not-so-subtle digs at him every chance he gets in interviews!

    Buffy, anyone?

    by fishface

I'm a little sick of teenage angst coupled with sci fi/fantasy.

I thought "Regency" was a new reviewer...

    by tonagan

Which I now know is silly, because if he/she were a reviewer, they would be reviewing Iron Man.

    Fishface is right

    by palimpsest

That's SUPERNATURAL with aliens, that is. Then again, Patterson's so lazy he gets someone else to do the writing on most of his books these days (this is one of those James Patterson with Michael Letwidge books), why should we expect him to come up with an original-ish plot...?

    Couldn't help laughing. . .

. . . I'm in a discussion where someone said, "Fishface is right." Don't know why that cracked me up so much. Anyway, it boggles my mind how so many, my stupid wife included, just eat up his Patterson's books. And it seems like there's a new one every other time we go to the store. I read one of those Alex Cross books because she promised me she'd read Salem's Lot in return. It was terrible, almost unbearable. And don't get me started on his lame attempts to see through the eyes of a black man. And any fanboy who hasn't heard of his X-Men rip-off series about the winged teens should forget I just typed this sentence.

    WHY!?!?

    by brians life

Why does this hack keep getting his books optioned!?!? Is it because his writing style is in the Michael Crichton "begging to be a screenplay" style? Tell me so that I can copy it!?!?!
