Dr. Robert Langdon Finds His ANGELS & DEMONS Sidekick!!
Merrick here...
Entertainment Weekly says Ayelet Zurer will star opposite Tom Hanks in ANGELS & DEMONS.

Ron Howard is returning to direct this DA VINCI CODE prequel, and Akiva Goldsman will once again adapt from Dan Brown's book (we've known for a while that Hanks, Howard, and Goldsman were all on-board).
Zurer's character is the daughter of CERN physicist Leonardo Vetra. Following her father's death, Vittoria pairs with Robert Langdon (Hanks) on a journey to uncover the mystery behind her father's murder and stop a terrorist plot.
..says THIS ARTICLE at EW's website.
An Isralei actress, Zurer has recently appeared in high-profile American films like MUNICH and VANTAGE POINT.

Has anything Akiva Goldsman worked on not been both commercially
by kesoze4
They REALLY need to find a new "big movie go-to guy". Like the new actress, though, she's great.
-
Didn't realize subjects were so short. My bad.
-
i had a broken ankle so i read it on the sofa ..... it was ok
-
and Decpetion Point I have come to the conclusion that Dan Brown is the John Grisham of the Tom Clancy novel.
-
I thought that Naomi Watts had secured this role long ago. If she's not going to be in this film, I no longer have any reason to see it, which comes as a great relief.
-
that got shot in the chest with that weird gun on the houseboat in "Munich?"
-
hopefully they don't water down the destroying-the-Church plotline...
-
...we'll see the film that's hopefully superior to Da fucking Vinci Code.
-
Only really fucking stupid people enjoy Dan Brown novels. You may have read them, you may have found them mildly diverting, but to enjoy them you need to have just about zero taste in literature.
-
The twist ending was very well done in this novel, and I'm hoping they can nail it perfectly in the movie since it is so complex.
-
Why are Hanks and Howard involved with this pulp crap? I thought they were better than that.
-
Eddie Van Halens did back in '78/'79
-
Which surprised me because I thought she was above this type of tripe. I guess she is.
-
Hope they get this one NOT to be boring
-
The ending (assuming they don't change it) will be exceptional. I remember when I first read this book that it would make a kick ass movie.
-
. . . and sleepwalk through this one too? I'm amazed that the plot actually involves him teaming up w/ a woman to solve the mystery behind his murder. My wife was already having a hard time getting me to read this damn book . . .
-
I'm a fan of The Davinci Code book as a purely literate form of making films. Though not great literature, the book was captivating. The film on the other hand was a ridiculous and lazy attempt at filmmaking. I lay more blame on the writing more then the filmmaking itself. It was absolutely painful to sit through these expository scenes while everything was spelled out so easily for the audience. Akiva Goldsman is lauded for his writing abilities, but they were completely lacking for The Davinci Code. Ron Howard is a mediocre filmmaker, always playing it safe, never making any film that isn't a feel good crowd pleaser. He tackles his subject matter in such a "gosh golly" way that it eviscerates the blood from the meat.I will see this film, but with the lowest of expectations.
-
Is stopped reading around pg 150 and I rarely give up on books. I flipped forward to see if I was right about the twist, found I was, and then gave the book to someone else. Really poorly written and the dialogue all sounded so fake. My tolerance for junk is high but Angels & Demons was just too much.
I did like Deception Point. I thought it would make a great plot for a season of 24. -
He totally revolutionized the guitar with his tap-and-roll technique.
-
Goddamn, why do they keep giving that hack any jobs? This is a person who is constantly drawn on to write screenplay adaptions from books, and who NEVER SEEMS TO READ THE FUCKING BOOKS before writing the screenplay. I've NEVER seen a screenplay writer so consistent in his failure to UTTERLY MISS THE POINT of the books he's adapting.
On the other hand, this is a Dan Brown book, and Dan Brown is a hack, too. The only people that dig Dan Brown books are people who start their reviews of his books with "I don't normally like reading, but..." -
was kinda crappy, but i did always think Benicio Del Toro would be great as the charismatic big baddie.
-
I meant "his ability to UTTERLY MISS THE POINT" -- That'll teach me to write before having caffeine.
-
Dr. Jones shall not disappoint. I hope!
-
Angels and Demons was far more enjoyable for than The Da Vinci Code. It has much more action and is more filmable as a movie than Da Vinci was. All that symbololgy and cryptology
-
Because The Da Vinci Code was such a roller coaster ride of YAWN!
-
...because it's so pro-christer. It's also preposterous bullshit for anyone with over an 8th grade knowledge of basic scientific principles, but the trailer trash demographic will never figure that out.

And the chick wants to be Anne Hathaway.

Because of Richie Cunnigham the "fire" death will be shite (when it's really quite fuckiest uppiest), and this film will be 12A, or PG13 if you're in the USA.Really wanted Monica Bellucci in this role, then again, I think she should star in every film.As for Jaime Murray (the hot chick who can't act from Dexter S2) she should be in films, you know, the ones that need a box of tissues to enjoy properly.
-
yeah, wat!?
-
Ron Howard is a mediocre director.
-
Kicked his sorry ass to the curb. Made one of the Busted Tees ladies as my new one. Haven't regretted it since.
-
Couldn't they find a girl more boinkable?
-
If this is what happenes before Da Vinci Code, then why wasn't this movie done FIRST!? Why should I watch a movie then have to watch ANOTHER movie to get the back story of the character to see how it leads up to the story we all REALLY wanna see anyways? It's like I'm taking crazy pills!!
-
He was following Joel Schumacher's orders on Batman & Robin. Schumacher wanted camp and Goldsman gave him camp.
-
...is it really surprising that so is Dan Brown?
Instead of touching his trash, take a look e.g. at "Gabriel Knight III" for a really skilled and involving take on the story of one corrupt priest "reimagined" as a conspiracy adventure. -
However, that part at the end with the whole jumping out of the plane was a little crazy
-
They will only fuck the shit out of Angels and Demons like the did Da Vinci Code. What was the shite on the bus where they use that guy's phone? would have taken about the same amount of time to not change the story and get him in the library. Do you think they will adapt deception point to have Robert Langdon in it? When reading that i pictured the main character as him from the Invasion TV show, Russell was it? Anyway.
-
Only saw Munich once in theatre. Enjoyed Marie J-C's nudity even though it was a tense & violent scene. Also agree Monica Bellucci would be good in this & should be a Bond girl.
-
No one asked for this movie. NO ONE. It could very well kill the careers of everyone involved. Wait... didn't the Da Vinci Code already do that?
-
His "A Beautiful Mind" and "Cinderella Man" scripts were great. And Dan Brown's novels, although not factually accurate, are definite page-turners. Both of these scribes are talented, love them or hate them. Most of the comments posted by this board's large contingent of 13-year-old minds and bodies are asinine.
-
A bunch of microcephalic losers calling Dan Brown a hack.. true enough, the movie version of TDVC was a huge let-down. Same people making this one, same potential for crappiness. But as for you twits who sit in this hole and snidely dismiss Dan Brown, you just need to do one thing: open up your checkbook. Look at it. Now pretend you are looking at Dan Brown's checkbook. Then cry. Does making a bajillion dollars make Dan Brown the greatest author ever? Of course not. However, neither does a bunch of pathetic weenies sitting in an anonymous forum calling him a hack MAKE him a hack either.
-
for the lead guy I pictured George Clooney, and for his scientist buddy I imagined Bob Balaban.
-
A season of 24? If I recall correctly, the original concept of 24 was NOT to have Kiefer save the world season after season, but to have different stories whose only common theme was that they took place over the course of 24 hours. Since this book was structured in much the same way, it seems like it'd be a natural fit.
-
Heeth juth tho theeeeeeeriuth theeeth dayth
-
Howard was clearly the wrong director. There was just no thrills or suspense in any scene. It just draged on and on.
-
i understand what it's supposed to be about, i am just curious if anyone has heard a release date. dan brown is a good writer. he is one of the best writers that i have ever read. not everyone can get into the subject matter and that is understandable. he can set up a thriller as good as anyone that i have read.
-
"Angels and Demons" especially. These aren't serious books. Templar conspiracy theorists latched on to one and made it a hit. This just isn't A-List material. They are patently ridiculous and totally over the top but largely entertaining. The films should be full of Hey-I-Know-That-Guys having a ball and playing to type, with maybe one minor A lister slumming and enjoying themselves.
-
I've read "The Solomon Key" is supposed to be released in 2008 (according to Wikipedia), but there's no specific date. I would imagine by Christmas time to cash in on those holiday dollars.
-
of 24 tried to get the rights to one of Dan Brown's novels (Angels & Demons would make sense but I think it was Da Vinci Code). Brown rejected the idea in favour of holding out for a feature film adaptation.
-
We're almost in May. I mean the movies almost here. We've only had a teaser trailer. I want that final trailer.
-
thanks. for some reason the official dan brown website has not updated in quite a while. i like the name the solomon key and i wish he could have released it before the national treasure films ran with his ideas. oh well.
-

-
this was as bad as "davinci code"...
same general story, same character types, same bland, expository dialogue from out of nowhere.
and the movie will be a piece of garbage too.
and stop whining for more trailers and just wait for the goddam movie to come out.
jesus god, people, have some fucking patience!
stop devouring movies like they're fucking hot pockets!! -
Fack all this!! I watched that Da Vinshee crapfest and I nearly turned inside out wiv boredom!! It was just people talking their nuts orf in different places for nearly 3 hours. And wot de 'ell was all that abaat with dat bird? She was jesus' daughter? huh-what?? a) she'd be about a jabillion years old and b) why couldn't she work a miracle and turn that movie into something other than a rancid vagina spillage. Or maybe make Ron Howard talented? Cunningham!!!!! Yeah, shoulda stuck being Henry Winkler's 'winkler' if ya know what I mean!! Twot. Got ginger hair too, which means he's half-satan. Either way, we don't need more of this nor do we need more of Tom Hanks' mullet. Who's he think he is? Eddie Van Halen with that haircut? I dont think so. And that bird up there whose supposed to be in this new one..she'd better get her arse out that's all I'm sayin. Make it worth downloading.
-
actually, this story came first...it has to do with the illuminati...
the best thing about the book are the cryptograms inside; words that are written in an artsy way so's they read the same right side up or upside down... -
It follows pretty much the same formula as The Davinci Code, only with a different theme. It was entertaining overall, but like someone earlier pointed out, it wasn't high literature. Its like pulp. So the thing is, when they take a pulp novel, and dumb it down in movie form like the film version of "Davinci Code", it becomes so thin and diluted that there's practically no substance there, because there's little to begin with in terms of the novel.
-
I read that somewhere, too. I was just asking from a simple story-structure standpoint. Smart of Brown to hold out for the movie $$$.
And Lucid, I'm afraid I have to disagree. "Readable" doesn't equate to "good." Dan Brown has a great sense for pacing (making his books the very definition of "page-turners"), but the quality of the writing is, in my opinion, pretty poor. Not, say, "Left Behind" poor, but still bad. -
in my opinion, brown is a great writer. better than just "readable". i know that 95 percent of the people that post on these talkbacks are just here to rip the subject of each post. i don't care if i am the only person on here that likes brown's work. in fact, the stuff i like is usually trashed on here. i could give a shit. personally , i have no problem with the first film and i will gladly check out this one too. i never even wrote the word "readable" in my original posts. why do i take the bait? okay everyone, trash every single talkback thread. is anything cool on this website? i like the movies that are discussed at aicn( for the most part).

Jimmy Kimmel Live: 1,000th Episode In a major step forward on "The Hobbit," Guillermo del Toro has signed on to direct the New Line-MGM tentpole and its sequel.
The widely expected announcement came Thursday afternoon jointly from exec producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, New Line president Toby Emmerich and Mary Parent, the newly named chief of MGM's Worldwide Motion Picture Group.
Del Toro's moving to New Zealand for the next four years to work with Jackson and his Wingnut and WETA production teams. He'll direct the two films back to back, with the sequel which will deal with the 60-year period between "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship of the Ring," the first of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
New Line is overseeing development and will manage production. Both pics are being co-produced and co-financed by New Line Cinema and MGM, with Warner Bros. distributing domestically and MGM handling international.
Del Toro most recently helmed "Pan's Labyrinth," released through New Line's Picturehouse. The fantasy set a record as the highest grossing Spanish language film in U.S. box office history.

OCALA, Florida (CNN) -- Actor Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison and fined up to $5 million Thursday for failing to file federal tax returns.
Wesley Snipes, sentenced to three years in prison, starred in "Blade," "Major League" and "Murder at 1600."
1 of 2
It was the maximim sentence possible under federal sentencing guidelines.
Prosecutors last week urged U.S. District Judge William Hodges in Ocala, Florida, to sentence Snipes to the maximum penalty to demonstrate to taxpayers that refusal to pay income taxes carries severe penalties.
"The law is very clear: People must pay their taxes," Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Douglas Shulman said. "There is no secret formula that eliminates a person's tax obligations."
Snipes was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failure to file federal income tax returns.
Snipes, who has starred in movies such as "Blade," "Major League" and "Murder at 1600," had been charged with felony conspiracy counts for participating in a scheme that rejects the legal foundation of the tax system. However, a jury accepted his argument that he was innocently duped by errant tax advisers and acquitted him on the most serious charges.
"The fact that Snipes was acquitted on two felony charges and convicted 'only' on three misdemeanor counts has been portrayed in the mainstream media as a 'victory' for Snipes," the government document says.
"The troubling implication of such coverage for the millions of average citizens who are aware of this case is that the rich and famous Wesley Snipes has 'gotten away with it.' In the end, the criminal conduct of Snipes must not be seen in such a light."

Assistant Attorney General Nathan Hochman, head of the Justice Department's Tax Division, has promised to beef up the government's efforts to pursue those engaged in a variety of schemes making legal assertions that income taxes are either voluntary or unconstitutional.
"For nearly a decade, Snipes has engaged in a campaign of criminal tax conduct combining brazen defiance with insidious concealment," the prosecutors say. "By these means, Snipes has escaped paying more than $15 million in income tax to the IRS and has pursued an intended fraudulent harm to the United States Treasury of more than $41 million."
The document says Snipes shipped millions of dollars to accounts in Switzerland, Antigua and the Isle of Man to avoid taxes.
"Given defendant's income, earning capacity, and financial resources, both disclosed and undisclosed, the United States submits that a fine of at least $5 million is warranted," the sentencing recommendation says.
The 35-page argument for the stiffest possible penalty ends with a dramatic flair.
"In the defendant Wesley Snipes, the court is presented with a wealthy, famous and inveterate tax scofflaw. If ever a tax offender was deserving of being held accountable to the maximum extent for his criminal wrongdoing, Snipes is that defendant," it says.
The IRS is also seeking repayment of all taxes and interest through civil court proceedings. -
someone had to say it

I know I'd love to see a movie that shows the plight of overpaid, untalented celebrities who are villified by the government because they didn't pay their income tax. Maybe we can even get a cameo by Willie Nelson...
-
Thats a nice google list of "celebrities" you've got there, but I haven't heard of any of them. I seriously doubt you heard of most of them either before you googled them. As for Cage and Nelson, if they do 3 years in prison for tax evasion, I'll issue you a formal apology. Until then, yeah, I'm saying they're making an example of a famous black man.
-
... I probably wouldn't pay $8.50 to see a movie about Mohammed the prophet of Islam being a cocksucking homosexual. I'd wait til Falcon released the gay porn version of the same movie, and then I'd rent that for $3.50 - assuming the guy playing Mohammed was hot.
-
a convicted famous black man - unless of course you think his conviction was a Jew conspiracy. but be fair - did you read the wingnut shit Snipes testified to? He's making a zillion times more money than you and me put together and he's relying on some crackpot advice to keep from paying his "fair share" of the loot. Boo fucking hoo. Let him cool his greedy arrogant heels in the clink for a few months.
-
...I'm not making up the fact that they're making an example of Snipes. This is what the Prosecutors are reported to have asked the court to do.
-
crazy Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Athiests blow up far fewer people on average though.
-
I don't share the whole "eat the rich" mentality. Though I may be liberal, I think if you've worked hard and made a fortune, more power to you. Money management is a huge problem for celebrities. Many of them go bankrupt because of taking bad advice from self-interested parasites posing as advisors and friends, but sometimes the result is worse. Plus, there are a lot of corporate white collar criminals who are doing far more eggregious things than Snipes ever did, yet they walk the streets free because they are part of the system and pay off the right people.
-
An accountant for 15 years? That would mean you're at least in your mid-thirties. I would never have guessed. Are you this charming in person, or is this your behind-the-computer persona? With all your infantile name-calling, I wouldn't have thought you were older than 17, and thats giving you credit. But no one would lie about being an accountant. You got a wife and kids? Are you a daddy? Thats freakin' scary if you are.
-
Dan Brown's books make for good PULP fiction and maybe (just maybe) they could translate well to film in the right director's hands.
No doubt the producers thought those hands belonged to Howard because he managed to make mathematics semi interesting in Beautiful Mind - except that was Russell Crowe doing that, not Howard. If you have any doubts about Crowe's acting ability, watch The Insider.
The problem with Howard giving Brown's books the Beautiful Mind treatment is - with Hanks on board instead of a decent actor (Brown himself made no secret he wanted Harrison Ford) - the 90% preachy fucking "history" lesson that Brown uses as filler in his books ends up translating to film like dogshit translates to High Art. If you look hard enough you can probably find some meaning there, but most people just see a pile of shit...
So yeah this story has almost exactly the same plot as DVC, except with a little less conversation and a little more action - but if the same people are going to be doing it then we are just going to see the same pile of shit on the Big Screen.
And yes the saddest part (at least for the rest of us) is that this film will likely make a great big pile of money out of that pile of shit, too... -

Absolutely true. But being self-centered, I'm really only concerned about the present day dangers that can kill me or make my life miserable. I'm sure the Aztecs and the Phoenecians and the Sumerians were also responsible for horrible things in the name of their religions too, but their not on my tits now, so please forgive my unwillingness to take the long contextual view of the theological and political Rubick's Cube that is Islam. And I know I can ask your forgiveness without you cutting my head off with a rusty pair of left-handed pinking shears.
-
I had hoped they would cast Monica Bellucci as the female lead. If they get Naveen Andrews as the Hassasin I'll be pleased. Somehow I doubt that will happen. Howard has been letting us down as of late. It truly is a shame...
-
oh come on now, Hanks is a "decent actor" - he was just wrong for that part
-
... don't knock butt-fucking. But if you've tried it and don't like it, that's a different story.
-
...can you by lectured about making generalizations about race and homosexuality by someone using the screenname "Mohammed was a butt-fucking pedophile". I can that racism and homophobia are near and dear to his heart. I know the reason you didn't answer my question, Moh, about having a wife and kids is because you don't. Its a vicious cycle, eh Moh. You're angry and frustrated because you can't meet a woman, and you can't meet a woman because you're so angry and frustrated. Hopefully this talkback helps you a little, but in your advancing years, you should really try to meet a woman.

Sure, he gave us "A Beautiful Mind" and "A Time to Kill" and even "Cinderella Man", but then he spent the rest of his career giving us:
Batman & Robin
Starsky & Hutch
I Am Legend (and it's shitty miss-the-point endings)
Da Vinci Code
I, Robot
Lost in Space
Batman Forever
Deep Blue Sea
Constantine
. . .
Now, maybe he's just NOT cut out for adapting novels into screenplays. And maybe "A Beautiful Mind" and a few others were the EXCEPTIONS, not the rule. If you look at the man's record, his work is about 80% awful.
One good story doesn't excuse a dozen awful ones. I'm sorry. He's terrible. But at least in the case of Dan Brown books, Akiva's at about the right level.
How anybody can screw up a great short novella like "I Am Legend" is beyond me. It's all right there! The graphic novel managed to give a perfect storyboard for the movie, and yet Goldsman manages to not only mangle the setting, protagonist, and antagonists of the book, but he also MISSED THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE STORY.
I don't even think I need to remind you how absolutely mind-numbingly PAINFUL his "Batman & Robin" script was, do I? Akiva is responsible for EVERY SINGLE BAD LINE OF DIALOGUE in that shitstorm of a movie.
He's a hack who had a couple LUCKY moments where he actually wrote a halfway decent story, and a good director turned it into a good movie. -
A sequel to the worst movie ever made! Thank god for idiots!
-
From my understanding, even though Angels and Demons came first before Da Vinci Code, it is being filmed as a Sequel.
That fact has me worried. I agree Ron Howard and Tom Hanks were poor choices for this movie. Lets hope they learned from their mistakes.
Having said all that, I did mildly enjoy the Da Vinci code, nowhere near an amazing film (as it could have been) but it wasn't completely horrendous as some say. I give it a "so-so". -
"Internationally, however, most Muslims will stab you to death for a truthful documentary and riot over fucking unproven rumor". Let me guess, you live in a one horse town where the town has died somewhere in middle America, don't own a passport and have a waistline currently approaching equator? Or am I generalising based on a stereotype. Dickhead. It's no wonder you get banned.

I guess they just can't keep pretending Hanks ain't an old fart...
hey when you OWN the property, you can do whatever the fuck you like with it, right? Look at what Mel Gibson did with Payback... -

This will be awesome, as long as they use the Ambigrams and and the whole Illuminati vs Catholic Church plot. Angels & Demons is far better than DaVinci Code....they should have made this film first.
