Action!! Effects!! Booze!! The New HANCOCK Trailer Has Some Pretty Cool Stuff In It!!
Merrick here...
A new trailer for HANCOCK premiered on TV last night & has already hit YouTube. It shows tons of action & visual effects; I love the shot of Will Smith powering through the air in his Superman pose with a bottle in one hand.
A while back we ran a bunch of reports from early screenings of the film - pretty much a split decision. This trailer suggests a movie whose scale is larger and actionier than I was expecting...which is cool by me...although I suspect The Powers That Be top loaded the promo to steer us away from the inter-personal material that test audiences didn't enjoy too much.

not a true will smith movie if you ask me
-
Some of Will's stuff is great but some is crapolla. "Welcome to earf!"
-
put frosting on a turd and call it a cupcake
-
Which is atrocious news. On the bright side, Hancock looks like a great ride. Aside from SharkTale, everything from Will Smith in the last five years has done what it's supposed to do - entertain. Here, he's got another box office smash on his side, easily.
-
What's with the stuff about Disney Channel Magazine and Simon Cowell that appears after the shot of the title?
I can only assume Disney and Cowell are somehow involved with this film in terms of producing and distributing, but I have to admit it was bit confusing that halfway through the video, the screen turns black and text about all that stuff comes up.
Oh, and I am not FIRST!!! Whoo! -
isn't it? I don't think I can listen to a voice over like that without cringing to convulsion.
-
Yes, complete with an alcoholic Kal-El.
Honestly, effects-wise, this is what he should have been doing upon his return from the destroyed Krypton. -
Either my browser can't see it, or it's already gone. Link anyone?
-
Just popped up...man, that was slow.
-
Healthy mix of levity and more serious stuff; funny gags; disenchanted, iconoclastic superhero; a more mature tone, no cheap cynicism... Looking good.
-
Looking forward to this actually. Action scenes look like they kick all sorts of ass and I have total faith in Peter Berg as a director. Welcome To The Jungle was one of the most enjoyable action comedies for years, and they guy can also direct solid drama as proved with Friday Night Lights. This is now planted high on my radar. Still below Indy, Iron Man and Dark Knight tho. Oh yeah, and tonights Linus centric Lost lol
-
Yes, I don't think anyone has ever seen a superhero stopping a train with their body before. A semi maybe, but not a train.
-
... shouldn't he be immune to the effects of alcohol?
-
Are you talking about The Rundown?
-
Was called Welcome To The Jungle in the UK. Am I the only person who loved that movie and wishes there could be a second? In the right hands and film The Rock could really beome the new Arnie all us 20 somethings are looking for
-
The Rundown Was called Welcome To The Jungle in the UK. Yeah, I thought so. Bring on the sequel!
-
Where he tossed that annoying brat from the HALLOWEEN remake through the air.
-
looks like it could be an alright comedy/action movie if they would get rid of all the stupidity about him being a reborn God or whatever. It's funny that they are describing the sequel to Superman in the same way.
-
In your screen play about a super hero you can make that distinction. I can't wait to see your movie. good luck.

... probably died of shock, or at least every single internal organ being crushed after having been caught from falling from 100,000 feet. This looks as entertaining as Men in Black 2

Because We Often Shy Away From Interpersonal Crap In Action Flic
by www.valiens.com
Why don't studios pair up screenwriters who know how to write great dialog and build relationships with screenwriters who write great action scenes? Have person 1 write the script and person 2 punch it up with the action scenes?
-
why is everyone sucking its dick so incessantly? I just don't get it. More Will SMith doing the same tired "acting" he does in every movie. It was novel in Bad Boys and tolerable in ID4, but aftre MiB it was time to get a new shtick. This trailer makes me nauseaus and so do the pukes who beat off to it.
-
the audacity this Hancock movie has in "catering" to the lowest common denominator of "jokes" makes me ill with anger.
-
goddamnit
-
which is just fine. The guy has never and will never make a great movie but he rarely makes a terrible movie (Wild Wild West and MiB:II being glaring exceptions). He is a likeable guy who makes likeable movies. He even made I Am Legend - a movie that was essentially a ridiculously safe hybrid of Children of Men and 28 Days Later - kind of watchable. I'll probably catch this in theaters, but I'm not expecting to crap my pants from the awesome or anything.
-
fuck this film. Fuck it before it fucks you right in the ass and takes your money, you feebs who laugh at this trailer.
-
Was a better title.
-
And I mean it.
-
wo ever did them needs shot, with a gun, a big gun
-
Why all the anger?
-
Yes, I'd go and watch this today. What the hell is wrong with it? Looks fun. It continues to amaze me how much hatred is spilled on this site. I'm pretty sure you people hate every single thing that's ever been done. Maybe it's crap, but that trailer looked at least entertaining. Plus it has Michael Bluth in it and Rita. I wonder if she'll call him a pussy in this one. I miss Arrested Development, sigh.
-
It's just one crazy angry guy.
-
WHY? Should be ID3.
-
... it's not even funny. I had no interest after seeing the teaser, but now I can't wait. WFT?
-
Finally, that little shit gets his ass kicked. This actually looks good. I like the idea of an extremely imperfect superhero. There's so much to be explored there which is not traditionally explored by typical superhero movies. They usually focus on the dramatic and theatrical, and not just the ordinary, day to day things, like wanting to throw a snot-nosed kid a 100 feet into the air.
-
is to help Youtube process HD audio and video.
-
Like, ZOMG!
-
When I first heard the pitch for this, I thought it sounded awful. Too much of an excuse for another Big Willy performance, but this looks good!I'm in!
-
im a dork, i dont care if i read a bunch of negative reviews, ill be there.
-
This looks fucking awesome. I agree with everybody who says this kind of thing is all we wanted from Superman Returns...
-
from the buzz, most of the movie is tedious crap...hancock is a god with amnesia...
-
Free Willy indeed.
-
This definitely looks like fun and, like General Crom, I'll be giving this film the ultimate endorsement of paying for a ticket at the theatre.
-
...what Princess Leia dreams about?I thank you.
-
Interesting, as for a long time this lingered in development hell with Will and Michael Mann attached to direct (back when it was called Tonight He Comes). I was always under the impression that it was more of a nostalgic, romantic superhero movie at that time though, this script used to get so many raves I can't believe what we're seeing on the screen is remotely close to the story's original intention. I could be wrong though.
-
Then if the movie sucks, at least it would have cool music.
-
That trailer would have convinced me to check the film out. Glad early reviews have told me about the whole old god thing and too much time spent with the relationship thing. As that all sounds a bit shit.
-
FFS this is meant to be a popcorn movie, not an Ingmar Bergman auteur piece. It'll be entertaining and mildly amusing family-friendly summer fodder. It's not trying to redefine the superhero / sci-fi movie genres, just to have a little fun with them - like Mystery Men and Galaxy Quest. The essential premise of the costumed superhero is pretty ridiculous to begin with, so why not make fun out of it? I'll wait till the DVD but I'll watch Hancock.
-
another movie with a lame superhero, let alone one played by will smith? wasn't "the specials" or "mystery men" or "my super ex-girlfriend" enough for you?
-
This film looks fun.
Stop letting the 'critics' tell you what to watch, and coming on here and lemming their babble all over the place.
Reading your crap makes me tired all over. -
What else is new? Stop hating!
-
A remake of Hancock's Half Hour?
AWESOME.
I hope they get somebody really good to do Sidney James, Kenneth Williams and the rest of those wacky Brits.
I am SO there.

You are a disgrace. It's the same old Will Smith bullshit, just a different plot. If that's enough to satisfy your movie-going demands, then I pity you. But not really, because that's just TOO pathetic. This shit may have a few little funny things, but it's full of lame-ass jokes and "oh, ain't he so cool cuz he's a mart ass" moments. That's not good movie-watching - that's fuckin lazy writing. I know, because I'm a lazy writer! Boycott this shit.
-
Ok, it has some mildly funny parts, but overall, he just a super-powered slacker with a bad attitude. I'm sure that's part of the character's arc, but I have to admit, it just isn't very appealing to me. You gotta give me a reason to care about a character, esp if it's the main one and he's got alot of negative qualities. The two trailers thus far haven't demonstrated any. OK, he "saves" people, but only when pushed into it apparently. That's liek saying somebody in your office does a good job because they finally get their work done after being continually hounded by others. I'll pass on this one.
-
Why does Chris Rock exist?
-
...but it will suck.
-
meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh.
-
version of superman. A guy who has it but is too fucked up to use it right. Finally someone does it. and this new trailer shows that they did it pretty good. Too bad he aint fucking hookers and snorting coke. Thats all thats missing.
-
Is setting in. Thats what the haters are feeling. For two years I been saying someone needed too do this shit. The screenplay existed long before this. This is superhero's Bad Santa. Deal with it. I wonder what he's fighting near the end.. Maybe his People show up.

sure this movie doesnt look like it will make me think about the existence of human life but who cares??? we need movies like this to lighten shit up every now and then. sure smith's schtick is tired to some (not me), but dude CAN act. Ali is all the proof that needs to be given. no one else on earth couldve embodied the "im the greatest" personality better. hancock isnt high art, and it doesnt need to be. and i dont think people need to be looked down upon for liking will smith entertainment, but hey its my opinion.... ill see it and ill likely to at least enjoy myself
-
This movie comes out july 2nd and I am already sick of the trailers. I didn't watch this online, but I've seen it like 20 times in the past 3 hours on the tele. That means it can only get worse. I'll probably have seen the whole movie before it comes out in theaters.
-
Please lower yourself to our level and, using your vastly superior taste and refinement, inform us Pathetic disgraces what we should think is funny?
-
On the one hand, the movie looks cool and on the other hand, I know Will Smith's paycheck is pretty much just going to be direct-deposited into David Miscavige's personal piggy bank. Oh well, it'll be on the internet soon enough.
-
Does anyone remember Handi Man from In Living Color? I mean if you're making a movie about a dysfunctional superhero, why not somebody we can get behind?
-
I've never watched a Smith flick that I didn't enjoy. YOu fuckers need to calm down... there are great movies that are cinematic masterpieces... there are bad movies that are pieces of shit... and there are movies that are perfectly good enough for whatever it is that they are doing. Movies that one can just go with a few friends and chill out and enjoy for a relaxing outing. Sorry everything that comes out isn't Oscar Gold. But thankfully everything that comes out isn't always the worst thing ever either! It's those nice comfortable spots in between 'alright' and 'masterpiece' and it makes people happy.
-
If this movie is suppose to be silly, then why is the trailer (i am on the 30th viewing tonight alone, just on commercials, thank god for DVR) why is the trailer SO serious? Hopefully Kanye W. West has a new single out by the time the trailer is the only commercial on tv. ANY ways Cheech is on Anatomy, some to loosen my vag.
-
speaking of misleading the Redbelt banner on this site has me to believe that the movie is going to only go straight to VHS. Anyways the girl from the Faculty is on Greys Anatomy. Time to shave my legs.
-
It's ironic isn't it?

Rock on, Fresh Prince Willy!

I think it'll be a little fun. I personally liked the jail scenes.
-
Not sure why...but I do. However, i'll rent the DVD of this. Not sure why...but I will.
-
After all the films and comics being made the only black hero to get a movie was STEEL...WACK AS HELL, now there's a super hero that comics still can't seem to get right being done in a movie, I for one will see it, after all i welcome a change of pace.....
-
I'll be here all week, folks.
-
Maybe you forgot Blade? That was the movie that really turned it around for Marvel, and still one of their best. Then there is Storm from the X-Men, Metor Man, Blankman, and who can forget Catwoman with Halle Berry? Yeah, we just wish we could. While there haven't been many black super hero movies, Blade is by far one of the truest the spirit of the comic, and a great all around movie, too. It seems we'll have War Machine soon as well. It'll get better.
