Re-team alert! Sarah Marshall's Nick Stoller, Judd Apatow, Jonah Hill and Russell Brand join forces for GET HIM TO THE GREEK!

Published at:  Apr 23, 2008 5:52:46 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Nick Stoller is a busy dude. He has a Universal project with Sarah Marshall's star Jason Segel as well as the reinvention of THE MUPPETS he's doing with Segel... Now he's got another project called GET HIM TO THE GREEK gathering steam. Apatow returns to produce and Jonah Hill will star alongside Russell Brand, who I thought was fucking hilarious in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL.

Stoller describes the story as a dirty Almost Famous. Hill will be a fresh-out-of-college insurance adjuster who is hired to keep a British rock star in line and out of trouble on his way from a gig in London to a gig at LA's Greek theater.

Maybe Brand is getting typecast a bit as the crazy British rocker, but why not? He's good at it.

The more these guys want to do together the better as far as I'm concerned. You?

Russell Brand is a very funny man.

    by batmans_pants

I suspect that the US hasn't seen much of his TV work, which is excellent. Youtube him and have a look.

Wouldn't have expected to see Russell Brand as a returning member in Apatow's crew, but this is good news. I loved him in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and have been meaning to download his numerous UK series since then.

...couldn't be bothered to spell Jason Segel's last name right throughout that entire article. Jesus Christ, talk about sloppy.

He's very much a love him or hate him person here in the U.K. I know people that won't see FSM just because of his involvement, i however find him hilarious.

is a great series to watch for some quality humour from russell. there are six half hour shows and they are worth finding.

I keep thinking you're referring to Neville Brand...

    by tonagan

Then ask myself "Isn't he dead?" and "I had no idea he did comedy." I'm also glad that we don't have to go a month without a Judd Apatow-related film. Otherwise, the withdrawal would be awful.

    Interesting this new Brand thing

    by filmcoyote

Usually i avoid a film with a British comedian in a major role like the plague and his involvement did initially put me off FSM. But so many people have told it's worth seeing i'll go anyway and hope for that rarity - a good film with a British comedian in it

I was worried there for a bit that we weren't going to have anything Apatow to take about day in day out after Pineapple Express for a while. I just had a Danish, I wonder what Judd Apatow had for breakfast?

  • as stated in a previous post Russell Brand is like a lot of other people who you either love or hate. I personally think he is very funny and an allround good bloke, although i would prefer him to do more personal stuff like his live shows and ponderland than him doing films.

Personally I think Russell Brand is unfunny and I do not see why everyone seems to think he is amazing. Will still see Aptow's films hopefully they might make the hairy tit look good.

A little of him went a long way, especially toward the end. Maybe he'll fare better here.

by Russell Brand's "ego" - but if you have ever been around him in person, he is a GREAT guy. He always has time for his fans [male AND (mostly) female]. Also, his ego-centric style, I think, comes off as very tongue-in-cheek

Just for a week. "Hey dudes, check it. Uh, let's make a film about a rock star. And uh, some dudes have to...uh...get him to the show on time." "Brilliant." "You're a genius." No, dudes. we're all geniuses." "Pass the bong."

I trust their judgment in writing the script

    by smackvein

The premise isn't very exciting, but clearly this troupe takes boring ideas and makes the best out of them.

Whereas a big concept like Year One might be too complicated to be great.

Russell Brand, the Dane Cook of the UK.

    by annoyyou

This is so tiresome. The only reason you fanboys liked him in FSM is because he was obvious and he mimed boning Kristin Bell. I hope to God his US career sinks as fast as Steve Coogan's (another baffling UK darling). Oddly enough, Americans CAN tell the difference between the good UK comic imports (Python, Eddie Izzard, Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran, the Boosh boys, French and Saunders, Fry with Laurie) and the crap ones (Brand, Coogan, Simon Amstell, Fry without Laurie). God save us from repeated doses of Brand. He's icky.

French and Saunders good? (maybe if you're 43 and its 1996) Stephen Fry bad? God save us from your taste, frankly. Funny that you should mention the Boosh boys, since Noel Fielding and Brand are alike in many ways, and are in fact great mates.

Not finding Brand funny is one thing, but its the hate for him that I find quite odd. Over here in England, I think it has something to do with men feeling slightly threatened by him. He wears make up, has wild hair, often acts quite camp, and yet he is wildly successful with women: this does not go down well with the football shirt-wearing, pint-drinking, smoking, swearing blokes of England.

    Mighty Boosh better than Coogan?

    by cedar_room

what the fuck are you smoking AnnoyYou?? Furthermore, adding French & Saunders to a list of good British comedy is like adding Pol Pot to a list of loveable scamps. They haven't been funny in 15 years, debatable that they ever were. Whereas Coogan (despite the Hamlet 2 trailer looking decidedly dodgy) is ALAN MOTHERFUCKING PARTRIDGE. A-HA!! The man deserves a place in the comedy hall of fame for life for this alone. AND Saxondale is fantastic I don't know why it isn't more well known. Anyway, I think Russell Brand is hilarious which was the original reason why I wanted to post on this talkback, so good on him. The Mighty Boosh is utter pish and anyone who thinks otherwise can dress up as a gorilla and be fucked in the arse by that little spazzy bloke who wears the hat.

You know, that cute guy Russell usually hangs out with? I know the Boosh is supposed to tour next year in the US, but I'm definitely going to try and find any way to contact Brian DePalma to get Noel in that POTP remake. Oh yeah.
