Greynolds Park Challenges SPEED RACER And Speed Wins!!
Merrick here...
My man Greynolds Park sent in some thoughts on SPEED RACER shortly after attending a screening of the film. Due to his enthusiasm for the movie, I should probably say that I know Greynolds...he is not a plant & has nothing to do with this film.
Here's Greynolds...
So I've gotta say that as a fan of the classic Speed
Racer cartoon series, I was not impressed with what
I've seen over the past 6 months or so in relation to
the promotion and hype of this new live action film. I
honestly had no intention of seeing it when it was
released in theaters.
Well, this weekend a friend who works for the studio
(Warner Bros) calls me up and asks if my girlfriend
and I wanted to attend a Press Screening in Los
Angeles that evening. I declined initially, but just
for the heck of it asked the g/f. She, of course,
surprised me by saying she'd love to go. So I caved
and figured if it really sucked, maybe we'd wander out
and duck into another flick there at the theater.
I gotta tell you we ended up going and as soon as the
movie began, I was riveted to my seat. Words, CANNOT
explain the magnitude of this film. HOLY SHIT! Forget
Wachowski, those brothers should be called
WOW'chowski!
Ok.
I dont even know if this really captures it, but
imagine if you took visual elements of TRON, silly
imagination of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,
Star Wars: Episode 1's Pod Racing scenes, Cool
futuristic cars of Back to the Future 2, a
technologically rampant city from Blade Runner, Color
Schemes of Dick Tracy, CGI elements of Sky Captain &
the World of Tomorrow and the Comic Book stylings of
300 and Sin City and blended them all together. You'd
get a concoction of something that is so visually
stunning, rich in color and mind blowingly effects
laden that you'd be speechless. And thus I truly was.
I've NEVER seen a movie like this before. The editing
was fast pace, the details of props and 70's retro
sets along with flashbacks woven into moving wipes of
current scenes and around characters was quite
impressive.
The acting was decent as well though at
times Emile Hirsch's character reminded me a bit of
Hayden Christiansen - yet there were other times he
totally embodied the cartoon Speed we all grew up on.
There were show stealers like Paulie Litt who played
Spritel (that kid has a future in Hollywood!) John
Goodman and Susan Surandon were solid and Matthew
Fox's "Racer X" character honestly didnt stray too far
from his "Jack" strong leader persona from LOST, but
definitely held his ground. And Christina Ricci both
old and young versions of her Trixie character were a
pure delight to watch.
With homaginal nods to the classic series, it feels
like this movie is so perfect and the CGI is
so breathtaking, you really feel like you're at times
watching a bad-ass cartoon - then at times watching a
quirky, over-saturated scene from a Tim Burton film.
Admittingly though, like many movies like Gladiator or
300 in the way that the editing is so fast paced that
you cant really appreciate the fighting because the
images are cut so fast, I sorta felt that way about
some of the racing scenes in the movie, just too fast
and quickly cut.
But man, overall, what a ride!!! I was SO glad I saw
this movie. An,d to top it off, when it was done, a rep
from IMAX walked our group of about 100 to an
adjoining IMAX theater in the same complex where we
were shown the 1st 16 minutes of the film again, this
times in IMAX. WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!!
This is apparently
only coming to 107 theaters in the US in IMAX we were
told. I suggest you FIND ONE near you and see it!!!
The scope and size of IMAX and the details and effects
of this movie, with the sound that comes out...shit
you'll feel you're in the Mach 5 (and 6).
That's all I've got to say, even if you never were a
fan of the old show, you will love this movie, it was
just over-the-top pure fun and I just wanted to let
you all know this is definetely a must see!

i'm stoked for this and i'm tired of people saying plant every time there is a good review.

totally of the subject too.

-
It's REAL reviews like this from normal fans like us which really are appreciated, because if someone who's a regular to the site is posting a review, then it's gotta meet the same level of interest as the rest of us. Now I'm even more excited to see this movie when it's released! Thanks Greynolds for the heads up... -ED
-
umm...Pod Racing scenes & Hayden Christensen? You might want to tap the enthusiasm brakes a bit pal.
-
He was trying to find elements of various movies to explain the unexplainable. The Hayden comment didnt bother me, I'd rather know what to expect and focus on the rest then relying all my energy towards one expectation. Enthusiasm is contagious...
-
What a tool.
-
Or homatudinal.
-
What is that, an homage to a vagina?
-
Now that was a mess, hope I don't see anything sky-captainy about this...
-
Somebody making tunafish?
-
Sounds like a wild ride. Giddy-up!
-
the opening day in Ginormous IMAX!!!
-
a tree for Earth Day. It isn't too late.
-
That is all.
-
Not that there's anything wrong with it.
-
Now what about the Apache Riders and the Mammoth Car? Man, if this one works out they could pump out sequals for years!
-
I think this review gives credibility to the first review. Because this definitely sounds like a plant.
-
hey you have to admit, the podracing was the highlight of episode 1- the first time you saw it in a theater with a good sound system....if you can name some other hi-tech racing scenes in recent years to compare speed racer to, go ahead- i think these guys were just pulling the most recent comparison that came to mind.
-
Looks like an ad for some kid's cereal.
-
... it taught us that Wachowski arrogance and a buttload of money can really work well together and screw up a good thing. I've seen nothing here that makes me feel good about this movie, although I'm sure it will do great international numbers.
Yawn.
-
Nothing says "wooden" like Hayden
-
Probably worked on the set as an AD. hahaha
-
I can't wait for a bus carrying this films ad banner on the side to run you over while you're crossing the street. Now that will be a mess!
-
HOMAGINAL!
I'm certain it's a sub-species of the ferocious platypus. -
But now after being bombared with Speed ads left and right the more and more it starts to look more like Spy Kids 3D than anything close to visually stunnning. I think there's a fine line you have to walk when you adapt a cartoon or comic book, keeping the tone and look without crossing the line...and this seems to have gone way over. Maybe I'll see it someday when I've got young children, that's about it. -
how short is your memory span? even discounting the matrix sequels(yes yes, i loathe them too!), the bros still WROTE and DIRECTED bound and the 1st matrix. those two movies alone are fastly superior and have more imagination in one minute of their screentime than most hollywood geek fares.
the wachowskis are lightyear ahead in talent than the guy whose ironman is about to come out, but apparently chim chim and rainbow color world is below you, but a robot flying and shooting beams in sooo cooool.
if that pseudo robot movie makes more money than speedracer, i'd take a shit on the entire geek community! -
and I hope Speed Racer will be too!
-
A positive review, and 19 posts before someone declares plant.... c'mon people, we're slacking here.
-
is like rocky balboa vs mini-me. are you kidding comparing the two??? did you see into the wild?
-
why are there no reviews from the majors, like Time and Newsweek?
-
Can we start calling them the Wachowski siblings? I say yes.
-
Ironman isn’t a robot. He is in fact…..Man in Suit.
-
the press gets invited to a screening but they can only write reviews just one day before the movie's release date. that's always the deal.
-
thanks..always wondered if there was a contract of sorts.
-
hence i said "pseudo robot". :)
-
Or should it be this plant is a tool? Whichever, this movie is still going to bomb and hopefully we'll see no more out of these two fucknuts for a very long time to come.
-
why is Speed's face so smooth, like a porcelain doll in the trailers?
-
moron..."As a fan of the cartoon, i was not impressed with what i've seen over the last 6 months." What? Like the cartoon was a classic? It sucked. I think the Matrix bros. can be trusted with hallowed material like Speed Racer.
-
our eyeballs with super saturated colors and imagery, but does the story engage? We don't need Shakespeare, but something above the level of ..say, Transformers. (Here come the T defenders). A movie based on a cartoon/toy/what have you doesn't have to insult your intelligence.
-
And directed by the WOWchowskis!
Node I thought exactly the same thing. Except my inner voice was Cartman saying it. -
Can't wait for this + Indy 4!
-
Ironman is not a robot.
-
I missed the :) on your post. I think both movies will either rock or suck rocks. I will wait to see them and judge for myself.
-
... they'd be saying something like "WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!!" Business people like to use the term "The Wow Factor" a lot lately, and this kind of business-speak combined with the "I suggest you..." makes me not take Greynolds at all seriously... I've seen plant posts before, but this is the Audrey II of plant posts...
-
Merrick is right there on top saying this guy in NOT A PLANT. Fucking talkbackers.
We're a few reviews in now, and there's every indication this is gonna be awesome. But no, the Bros have fallen out of the nerds' good graces, and therefore nothing they ever make can ever again be good. Bullshit. They're two of the most inventive visual stylists in the business, with a proven track record of hits (as long as they're not sequels - that, it seems, they can't do). The Matrix sequels were basically one very long movie anyway, so their hit/miss ratio is still fairly awesome (better than, say, Ridley Scott's, actually). Give them a chance! -
Proven track record of hits *period*, it's just that some of those hits weren't all that good.
-
Go tickle scrotum's some place else tool. Being an "inventive stylist" as you so call them means exactly dick when it comes to making a movie worth a shit. And you can take that "proven" track record horse shit and stick it up your ass. Go plant yourself somewhere else.
-
and even though my kids might like it, because it is a film based on a cartoon from MY childhood, it's far less likely that I'll take my kids to it (whereas with other movies based on shows from my childhood got the nod). I just never liked Speed Racer
-
...they should hire him as one. I've never been that enthusiastic for a movie in my entire life. Except maybe after seeing Star Wars, but I was 3 then.
-
they set out to make a "G" rated movie. It is not. Every one go home.
-
so is your hit/miss ratio based only on box office? If thats the case, yes they've had more hits (and much much much much fewer releases than, say, Ridley Scott).
-
yeah I agree...although it was Star Wars at age 10 for me. But no film is that good and his hyperbole distracts from his message
-
so yeah. now i've seen the whole movie. thanks!
this has to be a new record in superhero summer teaser releases...wtf? it's what they aren't showing us that must suck..or else they are reaaaally threatened by TDK.i have pretty much noticed, some uber-praising TDK review comes out, and Iron man releases like another 30 mins of footage. -
I'll be smoking one right before I see it in fraking IMAX!
-
Podracer scene? Visual aesthetics of 300? Now I definitely do not want to see this one.
-
Because I bet as more reviews come out and this movie tops the charts and sells bucketloads on blu-ray that his reputation for predicting bombs will officially be roadkill...
-
No, no box office at all, just my opinion of Scott's movies (hit/miss quality-wise); but I have pretty traditional views on his work so I don't think I'm being iconoclastic or something (examples: Black Hawk Down good, Hannibal not so good, Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut good, GI Jane really not so good, etc etc - I'm getting about 50:50). But I still think Ridley Scott is a master director, which is the point here; I doubt anyone would disagree, even if they just saw Legend, Someone to Watch Over Me and Black Rain back-to-back. It just doesn't work that way. Therefore even if the Matrix sequels are bad movies, it doesn't necessarily mean the Bros are bad directors. It's also true the Wachowskis made a *lot* less movies, but like I said above, after The Duellists, Alien and Blade Runner Scott made that one-two-three punch of mediocre mentioned above, which should have buried him. And yet here he is, still being awesome. Go figure. I'm willing to give the same kind of break to the Wachowskis. --- Oh, and poeticwarrior (congratz on the ironic handle, btw), don't use homophobic speech figures in conversation; it makes you look childish.
-
I wonder if people forget what movies were like before the Matrix came in and changed everything............it was just so ridiculously gung-ho and imaginative about everything it did, visually and thematically. That seems to me to be the perfect fit for a movie about cars going faster than they possibly can. The plot of the movie seems to parallel the ambition of the filmakers. go!
-
For anyone doubting the positive reviews, just copy and paste the following link:http://www.cinematical.com/2008/04/18/discuss-speed-racer-hot-or-not/In that link, CINEMATICAL's James Rocchi describes the film as "pure, pop family fun, a bold, bright kids' movie that's visually exciting and keeps the tone right". I'm expecting this to be an absolutely fantastic film experience, and all these positive reviews are only adding to my enthusiasm for the film. And to those claiming that the reviewer is a plant, perhaps you missed the author's assurance that this was a reliable source.
-
How do you break text into paragraphs in the posts? That lump of type I just posted up there is really unwieldy and hard to read.
-
hey killah_mate, I just saw the Duelists in the theater last week, and had a revelation. Ridley Scott's been bad at filming hand to hand combat his entire career, not just since Gladiator. I love me a lot of his movies, but man, quick cuts are not a substitute for actually filming a fight. It's funny, because the rest of the movie is gorgeous and has the suspense of battle down very well.
-
I just hope the Wachowskis don't screw up the inevitable sequels like they did with the Matrix.
-

The word(?) "homaginal" should not be used in a review of a Wach
by frisco
I'm very excited about this movie though. But is it rated G or what? Hope so!
-
Silly trimmed message subject...
-
As a big fan of "The Matrix," "Bound," and "V for Vendetta," I'm excited for this film. The Wachowskis are fantastic writers and visual stylists and I'm sure they're putting everything they have into this film.
I'll be there with my six and seven-year-old nephews opening day. -
The trailers alone, with all the car smashings, fist fights, and such, remove it from the G cannon. Its gonna be PG. Which is perfect. cause you need to violence, but it also needs to be family friendly. I'm glad that they seem to have kept it true to the spirit of the original anime / manga.
-
does anyone else almost always skip the first two paragraphs of sent-in reviews?
-
Hmm, that's interesting. The cutting really broke Gladiator for me; I'll have to watch Duellists on a big screen one of these days...
P.S. Testingtesting -
Because the first two paragraphs are usually about whatever the reviewer was doing that day before he (or, presumably, she) saw the film they are reviewing. Why people keep writing that way, I don't quite understand.
-
...even though I still think the Wtf?chowski Bros. suck.
-
spielberg must be the worst hack around then. after all he did that sucky movie called 1941, temple of doom, always, hook, lost world.
for pete's sake, have you seen bound??? did you remember your reaction coming out of the 1st matrix movie???
honestly, i'd take a new wachowski's movie anyday over any new spielberg's film. -
but the transformers cartoon is even more so! and yet you guys turned that bay's aborted monstrosity into a $300 box office hit.
now... the wachowskis have more talents, imagination, more coolness in one fingertip than bay has in his entire being, and you guys are gonna give this movie a pass????
are you a self respecting movie buff, or arent you? -
TRON, Willy Wonka, Phantom Menace, Dick Tracy, Sky Captain &
the World of Tomorrow...these are the selling points? I'll pass. Look, the Wachoskis did one good movie - the first Matrix. That's it. Period. They've been coasting longer (and worse) than Shayamalan ever since. -
they just did that first groundbreaking, industry-changing, new century spearheading matrix movie. who cares anything else they do afterwards, right? pffft!
in other news, the guys who did elf and the transporter have a new movie out soon.
-
Just because a guy cuts off his privates because he wants to be a lesbian doesn't make him a woman. Not in this world. In the Matrix maybe, but not here.
-
Just wow.
-
:pEven if it's not, and this guy and the other guy really like the film, it still looks crap. It's gonna be talked about and adverstised about and be the surprise bomb of the summer.Look at the timing: Iron Man is out May 2nd, big money. First "summer" film, lots of good buzz, people are gonna see it. Prediction: 95- 105 mil Some who don't will catch it on the 2nd weekend, and some will go as repeat business. This leaves the kiddies and grown geeks as the primary audience for Speed Racer on the May 9th weekend. I'm still going with 45 mil, maybe 55 mil tops. Then the very next weekend is Narnia: Prince Caspian. That's a kids film, a family (christian) film, fantasy/adventure that is a sequel to a movie that made over 200 mil. It will own that weekend. Prediction: 70-85 mil.Followed directly after by Indy IV, which everybody and their mother will go see. Prediction: 120-130 mil (possible record breaker)So you have the 3rd week after it's release that people may get around to Speed Racer if they didn't go that first weekend. And with repeat/delayed viewings for Iron Man, Narnia, and Indy IV also going on, Speed will only get like 25% of that weekend. My guess is that it'll just clear 100 mil domestic. Overseas however may be a different story....
-
Why do you care so much how much SR makes at the box office?
-
I'm so there! Naysayers, the minority as usual, may sit this one out, thank you.
-
He used it right. He just misspelled it. Stems from "homogeneous."
-
It's just that using a word even remotely close to "homo gina" in a review of a Wachowski movie is tempting the talkback fates. ;)
-
Despite some of these guys trashing you, I stand with all those who support and appreciate your contribution. What's nice is that you didn't throw out spoilers or bash this film. You gave a solid well written review in YOUR OPINION which you are welcome to do and AICN was great to allow you to have a platform. You discussed how the energy, fun and vibrant colors this movie rubbed off on you, and your excitement to share it with fans of the film world is noted. To hell w/ the NaySayers, when this movie is released and people who talked trash about your review see how your references and descriptions of the movie come to life for them, let them eat their hat, because they will clearly not have the balls to come back on this forum and say you were right.
Thanks again. Your infectious review sold an extra ticket for a seat on opening day with my name on it. -ED -
That's what this borefest is.
-
sounds like you'd rather be riding the wachowski bros nob but hey , just so you know that "imagination" of theirs was basically shit they stole from asian cinema among other things. so right now i'm guessin that you look and talk like that guy from the Grandma's Boy movie...am i right ? these two clownfucks couldn't hold spielbergs jock strap . get a grip man.
-
plant life- Elvenblade's press release had untold nOOb's pitching up to offer support and this one has "Electric Dreams" with "I stand with all those who support and appreciate your contribution", and worst of all "Your infectious review sold an extra ticket for a seat on opening day with my name on it". Just fuck off back to your soulless masters you heartless fucking Marketing whores. It's driving me mad- and actually putting me off seeing this.
-
everything that there is in film has been done before. some nobody called stanley kubrick said something to that effect a long time ago. you take old ideas and once you filter them through yourself, it becomes something else entirely.
you're making it sound like there's nothing original at all in the whole matrix movie. starwars borrowed wholesale from kurosawa's hidden fortress, and tarantino's reservoir dogs ripped off ringo lam's city of fire. so what's your point? -
I'm one of the few who thinks that 'The Matrix Reloaded' and 'The Matrix Revolutions' are misunderstood masterpieces. Far ahead of their time, and even farther above most peoples' heads. That said, the Wachowskis can make good, old-fashioned popcorn entertainment easier than most people take a piss. I mean, let's not forget they wrote and directed 'Bound' - a masterclass in Hitchcockian filmmaking - totally off-the-cuff, merely as an "in" to direct their 'Matrix' script that they'd sold to Warner Brothers.Because of that, and their obvious love for the source material, I have no doubt in my mind that 'Speed Racer' will likely be the best big budget blockbuster this Summer. Now, how it holds its ground against titans like Indy 4 and Narnia remains to be seen. But with the level of marketing and merchandising being invested in 'Speed Racer', it's possible that this could be one of the biggest hits of the Summer.
-
Get the fuck out of here with that. My god, and as for qualifying it with "above most people's heads": are you joking? If they were half as clever as they thought they were then they'd still be pretty basic.
-
You say you weren't impressed with what you had seen in the trailers so far, right? So why do you see fit to spooge over things which have been apparent in the trailers once you've seen the film?
-
Who are these people who apparently "love the site" for years yet never post in talkback and suddenly show up with verbal boners for upcoming movies and only stay long enough to register and say "hey I'm no plant" in talkback?
-
When he's not sucking the satanic cocks of his Hollywood whoremasters, ElectricDreams enjoys raping crack babies.
-
the plant reviews in the first instance or the sub-species of plants that show up in the TB to offer "support" and give glowing endorsements of the original press release. You've got to hand it to philibrick though, his multitasking skills are sensational.
-
is that some assclown up there kept saying the wachowskis had imagination (oh shit it was you!) , when in fact, you yourself know that they just copied everything to get matrix 1.
-
I'm sure the official reviewers have an embargo or something which is why you haven't seen any of the major publications putting their reviews out just yet. The seat fillers, such as myself, are under no such embargo. I'm surprised there hasn't been more reviews for the film online considering they screened it at the same theater three days in a row. I actually saw Moriarty and Devin from CHUD at the screening I went to.
-
is if someone dubs it like the cartoon. i would laugh uncontrollably if they had the fast talking.
-
...if a known talkbacker wrote a review like that or like elvenblade's, I wouldn't have batted an eye. But why is it the only people who get invited to previews are the ones who just so happen to "love this site to death" but have never posted before? Are they screening AICN talkbackers and lurkers in the lobby?
-
I agree with you, did you see Uncapie's review of mamet?
-
Good example.
-
Despite some of these guys trashing you, I stand with all those who support and appreciate your relentless attempts to validate the frankly bizarre review posted by Greynolds Park. What's nice is that you didn't call anyone a cunt or ramble on about horse-fucking or challenge anyone to a wrestling match for charity. You wrote a solid, well written post in YOUR OPINION which you are welcome to do and AICN was great to accept whatever donations you have sent them in the form of frisbees, hats, T-shirts, pogs and whatnot. Thanks again. Your infectious post means there is now a small amount of sick in my mouth with your name on it. -FTM
-
have you seen 'crossworlds (1996)' ? its surprising how much 'imagination' that the wachowskis stole from this movie.
-
I just had to say it again. The word and the entire concept has had me sat here chuckling to myself since the memory of pogs resurfaced in my brain a few minutes ago.Pogs - What the fuck was that all about?
-
It's much better than mine
-
Anyone who is bored or maybe feeling a little low should head over to Vern's site (www.geocities.com/outlawvern) and read his review of Enchanted. It's a long one, but those are often his best in my opinion, and this one has a long and very funny digression about Paula Abdul and the problems inherent to sexual relationships with cartoons. Seriously, check it out.
-
i still have some pogs. let me show them to you!
-
I thought you, as per usual, made some excellent use of swears. If I could afford to have "Just fuck off back to your soulless masters you heartless fucking Marketing whores" put on a t-shirt (or even a pog) I would absolutely do it.
-
I have no clear memory of the rules of Pog, but I am reasonably confident I will beat you and all comers. It's just a feeling I have.
-
A well used swearword can have great impact
-
Congratulations, you win the day, sir!
-
that’s the problem with geeks today. always trying to look cool first, and think second. did you even read my last post?
you’re saying the wachowskis have no imagination because the matrix steals from everything. so in your world, there’s no killer robots movie before the terminator came along then, no quatermain before Indiana jones, no zorro before batman, etc etc…
oh, you DO know? good, do stay home then when indy 4, dark knight, avatar come out because the creators & filmmakers behind those films apparently have no imagination.
great directors take existing ideas and make it their own, hack directors just copy and paste. the difference is in their IMAGINATION.
-
thanks for the support, but i have to side with the majority regarding the matrix sequels. :) i thought it's a monumental waste of potential. if the 1st were an A.I. robot, the two sequels are like washing machines - big, loud, dumb.
but i agree totally about bound, and by the look of it most of the self-professed movie geeks here havent even seen it, otherwise the animosity for the wachowkis here would have calmed a bit. -
only a hollywood shill would agree with hollywood stealing good ideas from other movies. even stealing entire scenes from the first "ghost in the shell" movie.
the only point i was making is that you cant call it imagination when its just plain stealing. i really do love matrix 1. but i dont give full credit to the wachowskis for creating that world, or some of its better sequences. -
unless you're the studio's accountant, why the hell would you care? it always irriates me when people talk about grosses... every single time a new movie is coming out... grosses grosses groses... like that mean shit. it's the year 2008, and i thought movie geeks would be a little more enlightened by now and drop the 'who's got a bigger dick' mentality .
i dont even have to tell you that some of the biggest pieces of trash ever put on celluloid are big money makers. -
is not the only film it steal from. the bros stole from james cameron's, john woo's, woo ping's, not to mention the book neuromancer, the bible, dr. who, etc etc etc...
but does the parts create a new whole? is the end result a one fine film, aesthetically and artistically? when you can answer yes to both is when i believe the 'stealing' is justified. i'm pretty sure spielberg, jackson, fincher, tarantino would agree with that assesment. ;) -
This flick, aka CHIMP-THE MOVIE, sucks ass.End of message.

Eh, I just don't have time to read and participate in the talkbacks. I come on the site mostly for Vern's or Mori's reviews, and the DVD columns.

Bullshit.

PRACTICALLY ALL OF THEM FEATURE STORIES THAT HAVE PEOPLE!!! CAN'T THEY BE ORIGINAL AND NOT ALWAYS USE PEOPLE!!! ONE TIME SOMEONE USED ANIMALS AND THEN ALL THOSE KINDS OF MOVIES FEATURED ANIMALS! THEN SOME GUY DECIDED TO USE ANIMALS AND STEAL THE IDEA OF TALKING FORM PEOPLE MOVIES!!! BUT THEN SOME OTHER GUY DECIDED TO TAKE PEOPLE AND MAKE THEM METAL AND CALL THEM A FUNNY WORD LIKE ROBOTS!!! A BIT MORE CREATIVE... BUT HE GOT HIS IDEAS FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE TOO!! THE ONLY ORIGINAL ARTIST IS GOD ALMIGHTY WHO CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH AND HE SHOULD SUE THE ENTIRE MOVIE/BOOK/COMIC/LIVE-THEATRE/CARTOON INDUSTRY!!! NAME YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE THAT YOU THINK IS SOO ORIGINAL AND I WILL TAKE IT APART AND SHOW YOU HOW WRONG YOU ARE!!! BTW I DIDN'T TYPE THIS WITH CAPS LOCK!!! I HELD THE SHIFT KEY DOWN THE ENTIRE TIME!!! THAT'S ME BEING ORIGINAL!!! IF YOU DO THIS NEXT TIME YOU ARE OFFICIALLY COPYING ME!!!

We need a NEIL CUMPSTON review of SPEED RACER (tm) WB to prove to us how orgasmic this movie is going to be!!! Where is he????!!!
-
Yes, The Matrix was brilliant. But the Wachowski's fell victim to their own success in the sequels. Sorry, the other two movies weren't misunderstood, they were piles of 1's and 0's poo! I watch the original and forget the other two were ever made. As far as I'm concerned, it's a stand-alone.
Speed Racer will be a fanboy's wet dream, but that's all. It will be little more than proof that tons of talent and cash can still end up a pile of stylish and expensive high-tech poo, with producers smacking themselves on the back and telling each other how wonderful they are. But when they go home at night and look in the mirror, they really say, "God, what a mess!"
This could be the brothers' "Ishtar." -
Please understand that saying things like WOWchowski makes people think you're a plant. It's not my intent to stifle the expression of your individuality, but you need more individuality in your individuality.

What pisses me off is I've contributed my fair share of advanced reviews, insider gossip, unauthorized media, and tons of TB postings to this site for years in many forms. And as much of a plant I knew I wasnt because I personally got hold of these scoops thru trusted, reliable, inside sources, or witnessed things 1st hand and risked being exposed or exposing my sources just so I could leak this cool stuff out, I was STILL called a PLANT! No appreciation whatsoever, so I stopped contributing. I dont know Greynolds Park from Gotham_Night or Cloudrider, but what I do know is that I see people who are taking their own time to do us a favor and give us a little sneak peak into a film that's had a 50/50 mix of good and bad hype. This G.Park guy has posted on AICN before, I recognize the alias, and his SPEED RACER review didnt give us plotlines or spoilers like Elvenblade, he gave us a glimpse, a tease at a FEELING, an expectation on what many of us might walk-away from after seeing this film. Because this movie has been marketed so shitty and almost detouring away fans of the cartoon series, his review re-enforced the fact that under the cover of a crappy trailer and not-so-hot posters, there's actually a really fun movie underneath it all. So yeah, that swayed me enough to say FUCK IT, I'm gonna risk my $8 and sit my ass in the theater when it comes out and give this movie a chance. Something some of you arent willing to admit you'll do yourself, instead some of you pose as bitter, jaded hatemongers who feel you've got to trash anything thats posted on this site, most of the time w/o even reading the post. And thats a bunch of horseshit. So I continue to stand my ground and say kudos to the post and Go Speed Racer Gooooo! -ED
-
uh-huuuuuuh. Course you have. And Elvenblade's review was practically a fucking press release, so using it as your defense is no good.
-
I think the TalkBackers shouting nonsense about "Speed Racer" are the REAL plants, hired from Paramount and other companies as counter-promotional rabble-rousers to minimize a film's returns and maximize their own. That's why I ignore ALL TalkBack posts. Even my own.

Such as...? -
as in under different names besides Electric Dreams, and my contributions were under different alias's then this. Look I have nothing to prove to you guys. I dont contribute to every TB, only on subjects I care about for TV & FILM, or Interviews. And WB is putting this film out, not Paramount by the way Revolution_Now. Well enjoy the rest of your discusions, I'm off to my cushy job at the studio and looking forward to my high profile lunch w/ my celebrity friends. Ciao. I'll have my assistant field the rest of your replies. Idiots.

The "as in" I posted, was, as if you didn't know, meant as a way to prompt you into giving up some of these imaginary "other" talkback handles. Thanks for proving my point that you're a complete phony.
Fuck you. -
just give it up. Same goes for Revolution Now. But I have seen 900rpm posting more, maybe they have taken our advice about maintaining ID's
-
Hey Doc...my Talback name has always been the same, you misread in your haste the fact that my postings for spoilers and such in the past were under other alias names. Have a great day buddy, enjoyed chatting w/ you. See you at the movies.
-
So, give us some then.
No?
Didn't think so.
