Lots Of Music From Giacchino's SPEED RACER Score Is Now Online!!

Published at:  Apr 18, 2008 8:23:17 AM CDT

Merrick here...

In a masterstroke of official sanctioning & fan friendly outreach, many selections from Michael Giacchino's SPEED RACER score are now online.

The whole damn thing may be there as far as I know...I haven't made it through enough selections to tell.
Chadius, who gave us the heads up about this (thanks for the message, by the way), indicates the entirety of these selections clock in at around 2 hours (!?!?)

HEAR IT!!!

Giacchino...is crazy awesome. Whether or not the film itself is fucked up, cool as hell, or both - this is a really fun score.

It sounds like something they'd make for Pixar.

    by knowthyself

Of course this guy did Ratatouille and the Incredibles so its fitting for a live action cartoon movie like Speed Racer. Lots of homages to the theme. Its a fun score.

a real honest to goodness soundtrack for a change.
    I love it.
If they don't fill it with current Top 40 bullshit the music will rule.
    I'd actually buy this.

Bank on it. Iron Man will be a huge hit, and then kiddies and parents will go one weekend to watch this, and it'll be forgotten in the wake of Narnia and Indy IV.Prediction: 45 mil opening weekend, then a quick drop-off.

Yea, but i grew up with the cartoon back in the 60's and when i listen with my ears i hear nods to the original show and thats fine by me.
Being that i did watch it as a kid and show it to my own children i'm a hard sell so kudos to the composer.
If i have to hear another Creed like soundtrack i'm going to barf.

Lame music for a disney cartoon...

    by wowsah156

If you went by the trailer and its images you would be expecting a dark epic synthesiser soundtrack, but by the taste given in that sample, it sounds like something out of Sesame Street.

Giacchino = next John Williams (or close)

    by iamjack'suserid

Don't get me wrong; John Williams is a god that should be worshipped along with Jesus and Jack Bauer, but Giacchino is BRILLIANT, and seems like someone who will be close to William's level one day. I hope so, because when Williams dies, the world will effectively be over. And it might be a bit sad. So we need someone like Giacchino to take up that torch. Viva La Giacchino!

I heard that Spielberg or Williams discovered him. His early works are the brilliant themes to the Medal of Honor games, which was for Dreamworks, so this would support the claim I've heard of him being discovered by one of those two. Anyone know?

    by bouncy x

so he must be good because i'm pretty sure he's done the score for every J.J. tv series and movies. its like the 00's version of tim burton and danny elfman.

    Giacchino's a genius

    by jay jay

IAmJack'sUserID, yes Spielberg heard his score for The Lost World video game for the PS1 in 1997 and got him signed to CAA. Lucas is aware of him too and he did the score to the Lucasarts game Secret Weapons Over Normandy. His Medal of Honor work alone (5 scores in total if you include Allied Assault) puts hims right up there with Williams and I have been saying since 99 that he is his natural successor. I'm so glad he's doing feature films now and his stuff is definitely among the best out there.

LMAO@ "Apollo 440 soundtrack factory" Now that's funny.
Yea i can see what some peoople are complaining about that it doesn't have that London Symphony sound but i think it might be because it's a Flash file.
I know i'm going to like it becuase i can see it through my kids eyes.
The only problem i have is the Mach6.
If it ends with him driving the Mach 6 i'll be let down.
"he's busy revvin up the powerful MACH 6" doesn't really flow off the tounge.
But hey i'm old it's new and that's life.

Howard Shore is good, but I still don't consider him up there with Williams, Goldsmith, Poledouris, etc. I agree that the ROTK score is brilliant, despite me not liking the LOTR movies at all.

    BRILLIANT GIACCHINO

    by evil hobbit

The most refreshing composer of our time. I agree on the Next Generation Williams composer. He composes with a natural flair of romanticism and Hollywood bravura. Very playful yet incredible tense and spot on, for comic, or dramatic effect. He has that Bernstein/Williams/Goldsmith touch.

    Giacchino isn't the new Williams

    by m_prevette

Not yet. But he's an up and comer. He's very good, but not the heir to Williams. Neither is Howard Shore. Shore's LOTR was complex yes and dense yes, but melody isn't Shore's gift. With Goldsmith and Poledouris gone, Barry retired, Williams really cutting back on output, the Silver Age of film scores is on the way out.

    by gozu

Basically it sounds like "Speed Racer" meets "The Flinstones" performed by a big orchestra. It's soulless and artificial. I was looking forward to this for a while, but every thing I see or hear about this project sucks. "The Fall," "Mongol," and "Dark Knight" are the only films I'm really excited about.

    by genpion

This doesn't sound like it will wind up being one of my favorite Giacchino scores but I still enjoyed it. I agree that he must have been phoning it in a bit... that is probably a sign of the quality of the film itself. I can't wait to buy the Lost: Season 3 Score though and to hear the rest of his music for this season!

    Fantastic!

    by dkfuel

I'm sorry to see so many negative comments on this score. It's actually blowing my mind because I *love* it. As a fan of the original show as a kid, this is exactly the kind of score I was hoping for. No techo, rap songs, "modern" crap. It's "Speed Racer" from the 60's, and not only should the original theme be included, but the score should be BIG and orchestral...just as it has been done. I don't think anything has been "phoned in" here. Not in the slightest. Michael, you've done it and I'm thrilled. Thank you.
