Hermione now Betsy in NAPOLEON & BETSY!

Published at:  Apr 18, 2008 5:15:16 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I saw much celebrating in talkbacks recently... seems a whole lot of people were... let's say enthusiastic about Ms. Emma Watson turning 18 years old. Yeah, that's our group alright...

Anyway, now they can enjoy her completely guilt-free in a non-Harry Potter film. She's just replaced Scarlett Johansson in NAPOLEON & BETSY about a young woman who falls in love with Napoleon as he is exiled on the small British Island of St. Helena.

The film is written by Benjamin Ross (RKO 281) who will also direct. All jokes aside, this could make for a fascinating drama and a great chance for Watson to break out of being only Hermione for the rest of her career. Thoughts?

You know - if fantasising over teenagers is your bag, I'm sure there are plenty of other places you can go. Anyway: who the hell is playing NAPOLEON? And aren't his ST HELENA days a bit dull - in ELBA at least he was planning a comeback. Oh well.

    by lex romero

emma's had two years of legalness, no need to get all excited over her turning 18. Other than that you could get her drunk now i suppose.

Anyway, bit young to play a girl falling in love with napolean? Wouldn't he have been pretty old? ANd he wasn't famed for being attractive.

    by knuckleduster

She's probably the only one of the Potter kids who will have a career after that fuckin franchise is over and done with (that's if Rowling doesn't write more books. And, trust me, she will). But hey, I love RKO 281, so bring it on.

Scarlett Johansson should be replaced in every movie.

    by derlanghaarige

I got no idea why she still gets work. Yeah, she was in LOST IN TRANSLATION, which was a pretty good movie, but that doesn't mean that she is a good or charismatic actress.

    The problem with GET SHORTY...

    by maxthesilent

...is that if you read the book, the character of 'Martin Weir' is CLEARLY Tom Cruise. But, of course, when making the movie they could NEVER get away with that level of obvious slander, so they needed to change the character to a genuinely short person. Someone like, say, Danny De Vito. Thus robbing the movie of its central point of satire.

    Good for her.

    by sithtastic

Let me be the lone voice of sanity and say that I'm glad Ms.Watson is *ahem* maturing...as an actress. Sure, we like to fumble all over ourselves as though we were coming back to Hogwarts from summer vaccation to find Hermoine had...you know...changed (greatest SNL sketch ever) but at least she's not (hopefully) going the overwrought "Behold I'm doing a nude scene in a play" the young Mr.Potter has done in an attempt to get adult cred.

Glad to see her getting other parts--she could be great

    by kevred

She's got lots of personality and a natural charm--she could easily turn into the British Julia Roberts if she gets the right kinds of parts. We shouldn't underestimate the significance of her work in the Potter flicks--she and Alan Rickman completely inhabited their parts, and hers was one of the most crucial to get right.I agree with some others above that Johansson is overrated.

    How can she replace Scarlett??

    by performingmonkey

It's a bit of a huge jump between Scarlett Johanson and Emma Watson, right?? She's like 6 years older than her for a start. That's proof they just want hype, and Scarlett doesn't attract hype any more.

    She doesn't WANT to act.

    by robred1

I saw an interview with around the time the last HP film came out. She was pretty down on the whole acting thing. Talking about how Ron and Harry were all into it and doing summer theater and she was looking forward to going to college and moving on to something else. Guess they wrote her a nice paycheck.

She will only ruin it with her eyebrows

    by superjim

Seriously though, she is hardly a celeb never mind a star. You would think some producer or director would have grown the balls to tell her to keep her fucking eyebrows still for a couple of minutes. She was the most promising talent in HP3 then totally screwed the last 2 films up for me with her eyebrow action/excessive shouting. She takes me out of every single scene that she is in. She is far too OTT, that's all.

    Be Mature Everyone

    by ajent42

I think it's great that she's moving on and trying to get away from the Hermione image, though I thought she never was Hermione to begin with. And like what someone above said, at least she is not doing nude scenes with a horse. And please be mature!
