Wanna See PINEAPPLE EXPRESS over 3 months early with Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride & David Gordon Green @ ALAMO?!?!

Published at:  Apr 17, 2008 6:08:26 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here! AICN is doing a couple of screenings with the ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE that are just going to kick so much ass... you won't know what to do. This is the first one we get to announce and it's a biggie.

Last year, around this time we had an amazing advanced screening of SUPERBAD with Michael Cera, Jonah Hill and McLovin'. This year we've got the new David Gordon Green directed, Judd Apatow Produced... PINEAPPLE EXPRESS with SETH ROGEN, JAMES FRANCO and DANNY McBRIDE coming... oh and the incredibly talented - and not known for his Druggie Violent Comedies - DAVID GORDON GREEN!!!

That's right - all 4 of them at the Alamo Drafthouse South on May 3rd at 9:30pm - where if you're lucky enough to make it - you'll get in to see this film over 3 months early and then have a chance to make everyone you know envious beyond words. I've been dying to see this since I met a couple of readers of AICN last summer during the Rolling Roadshow BOOGIE NIGHTS screening in L.A. - who had seen PINEAPPLE EXPRESS at two different early test screenings. They raved about the film all night to me and got me incredibly fired up to see this film.

Now - here's the rub. I don't have a ton of tickets. Most of the tickets will be handed out somewhere around the University of Texas campus by the studio's secret agents - but I do have a few tickets - in the under 75 ticket variety. So here's how we're going to handle this.

Requests for tickets are for no more than 2 at a time. You plus one. Send an email to HK @ AintItCool dot Com with the subject line: Puffing Pineapple

In this email you'll need to send your name & the name of your guest - plus why you're perfect to see PINEAPPLE EXPRESS so early. Why are you perfect to see a violent pot smoking comedy crime thriller?

This screening is being brought to you by AIN'T IT COOL NEWS, FANTASTIC FEST & THE ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE - however it is open to everyone. If you can get there - and you want to go - write me and I'll publish the list of attendees.

This is going to be an awesome screening - I really wish I could have special sugar free herbed brownies for this screening... if only the theater could make such a thing. Shucks.

    SAW MOVIE THIS PAST AUGUST

    by justanothermoviefan

    ...in Burbank.

I've been telling my friends it's like Cheech & Chong w/ guns. I wasn't the biggest fan of Hot Fuzz, and felt PE balanced the comedy and action much, much better. The action is funny, unlike Hot Fuzz, which just had action (although it was well done).
    It's really fucking funny.
It's not a great movie, but Rogen and especially Franco are just fun to watch. There was a subplot with Rogen's girlfriend that needed work (like, cut it out) but a couple scenes pretty much need the storyline, so I'm sure it is still in the film. Anyway, if you can see the film early, its totally worth it.

    by vadakinx

It is a period of civil war.
    Rebel spaceships, striking
from a hidden base, have won
    their first victory against
    the evil Galactic Empire.

    During the battle, Rebel
    spies managed to steal secret
    plans to the Empire's
    ultimate weapon, the DEATH
    STAR, an armored space
    station with enough power
    to destroy an entire planet.

    Pursued by the Empire's
    sinister agents, Princess
    Leia races home aboard her
    starship, custodian of the
stolen plans that can save her
    people and restore
    freedom to the galaxy...

There'd be herbal indulgences served at the Alamo Drafthouse and there'd be teleporters so I could go there any time I want (not just for the herbs, but the movies, queso, awesome atmosphere, gonzo programs, pizza, etc.) Keep your spirts up, Harry. My Dad was grossly overweight my whole life until about six years ago. He was diagnosed with Type 2 diabeties, got serious and lost about 90 lbs. or more. Now he's thin and in the best shape I've ever seen him at age 63, 64 next month. You can get through this and feel great. I've been on the treadmill myself of late to shed pounds.

because Superbad was a horrid movie and people are finally starting to get it. I mean not just bad...but horrid. If I knew kids like that in high school I hope they're dead now. It was an ugly mean spirited unfunny comedy. Apatow is marginally talented...he can point a camera and say "action". But he has no fresh ideas. Never had them.

    David Gordon Green

    by hoggydog

He's a good director. If there is going to be an Apatow-produced comedy that breaks the formula it is sure to be this one. Also, some people seem to think Apatow directs all these, but no he just produces most of them. Most are first-time directors so the actual film making aspects are very amateur. Gordon Green will hopefully change that.

    by dablunt89

Yes Apatow has produced a lot of these movies. But he has really only directed the 40 Year Old Virgin(which a lot of you loved) and knocked up (which is when this silly Apatow hate started). If you didn't like superbad then blame it on the writers and real director (i forget who he was, kasdan maybe?). So it is either you hate apatow or you hate all things associated with apatow (which, lets face it, is pretty much every comedy in one way or another.). Either way, you suck.

    by grandpashampoo

Sure, he may not be able to continue on this insane streak for years to come, but to say he will be completely forgotten is just asinine. A person who is involved with movies that critics and mainstream audiences adore, and that make tons of money are never completely forgotten. You need to step outside of the house for a second and think before you post next time.

    The Apatow Backlash is Absurd

    by captain mal

What, exactly, is the formula that ties all these movies together? Please be sure to include "Walk Hard" (the rock bio spoof) and "Drillbit Taylor" (the homeless bodyguard farce) along with "Superbad" (the buddy caper film), "Knocked Up" (the romantic comedy), and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" (the raunchy coming-of-age flick). Oh, and let's not forget "Pineapple Express" (the action comdy thrill ride).

The fact is, whether you like any of these flicks or not, the "backlash" against them is founded on nothing more than posturing. The movies are mostly successful because they're funny. Audiences don't pay good money and provide good word of mouth for films that aren't funny, or touching, or wild, or whatever else they're looking for in a film. If you don't get it, it doesn't make everyone else a moron.

Swear to god, I wonder if the internet will ever grow up.

Lets start getting some more film appreciation in these talkbacks. And less "Oh look at me I'm controversial!" statements that too often devolve into illogical whining. I know a lot of you are feel nice and secure in front of your computer, but people work their asses off on these a lot of these films, even if you don't like the final product, it doesn't hurt to show some respect. And no apatow did not ghost direct every single film that he produced dickblood you silly man. That is just your attempt at an argument.
