ANGEL’s Amy Acker Joins Joss Whedon’s Upcoming Secret-Agent Sci-Fi Series DOLLHOUSE!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
Joss Whedon reports on his website that “Angel” icon Amy Acker (“Alias” “Drive”) has been cast in Whedon’s coming Fox series “Dollhouse” as Dr. Claire Saunders.
Whedon tells Ain't It Cool the role is recurring in nature.
Acker joins the project alongside a number of “Angel” vets, including writer-producers Whedon, Tim Minear, Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, as well as “Dollhouse” lead Eliza Dushku – who played Faith on both “Angel” and “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.”
The series, which hits Fox next season, is about secret agents who are programmed with memories and personalities for their missions but have no memories or personalities of their own. Until one of the agents, Echo, somehow grows some.
Olivia Williams (“The Sixth Sense”), Tahmoh Penikett (“Battlestar Galactica”), Fran Krantz (“Welcome to the Captain”), and Harry Lennix (the “Matrix” sequels) are also in the cast.
Dushku plays Echo. All the blank-slate Dollhouse agents have Whiskey Tango Foxtrot phonetic alphabet names. Dichen Lachman (“Aquamarine”) plays Sierra. Enver Gjokaj (the TV-movie “The Path to 9/11”) plays Victor. Miracle Laurie (“Medical Investigation”) plays November.

so beautiful....so damn scrawny.
-
Not that clever imho
-
Very good to hear.
-
This is gonna be kickass, and BRUTAL. Amy will kill doods.
-
When she was in Alias or Drive, she wasn't wearing the stuff Fred typically wore. Now, she'll likely be wearing a lab coat again. With miniskirts? We can only hope.
-
This keeps sounding better and better. Fox had better not "Firefly" or (worse)"Drive" it.
-
I mean it has all the markings of a show FOX loves to cancel - great writers, interesting premise, decent cast. Do we start sending doll houses to FOX now?
-
...Glad I'm no the only one who thought that (showing my age here: I watched JOE 90 during its first US syndication). Same concept, only now the puppets have bbobies...
-
duuuhhhhh...
-
Actually, I don't think that she will have a hard time shaking Fred - she was a positive bad-ass when Fred became Illyria. Hopefully this character will allow her to show more of her bad-assedness (if that isn't a word it should be)...
-
... are funding chronal-spatial research at the CERN super-collider labs in Switzerland to enable them to open wormholes into the past in order to cancel shows (such as Dollhouse) before they actually air.
-
Amy Acker, Summer Glau, Eliza Dushku, Charisma Carpenter, Monica Baccarin, Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, and that electic chick that was in a few episodes of ANGEL!
-
You know it'll happen.
-
I had forgotten about Drive, tv needs a good Nathan Fillon gruff and manly tv show, and to reflect above thoughts, Im not going to bother getting excited for this show because its practically a sure bet to be cancelled. Maybe the secret agents can sing and we'll vote each week for which one gets their grisly doom.
-
Poor Wallace has been related to Hot Pocket commercials
-
you know it. This is freakin' awesome. I still miss what could have been with Illyria/Fred in a season 6 of Angel. Have to settle for the comics.
-
Amy Acker and Summer Glau standing in front of you.....Naked.......Think about.
-
I love me some Summer Glau and Morena Baccarin but Amy Acker might still be the most beautiful girl in the Whedonverse.
-
"relegated". how can a vm fan screw this up?
-
He better not be too busy filming White Noise 6 or something. Cast him!
-
u-turn from weeds, is also doing teevee commercials.
hard to blame them. commercials pay.
oh wait this is aicn -
that better?
-
when Fox cancels this thing after three or four airings.
BTW. I don't think Acker will have any problem shedding her Fred persona. She is a very good actress. So good in fact it was almost jarring when she became Illira and you realize Fred wasn't just an extention of Acker's own personality. -
I'm not even going to bother watching until the first season boxed set is out, and the second season has been confirmed. I refuse to spend my time watching another show that Fox is going to cancel before the first commercial break. Fuck you, Fox. FUCK. YOU.

I didnt watch Firefly because I was sure it would get cancelled
by shiftyeyeddog2
..and I was right. Then years later when I watched it (plus Serenity) I was kicking myself. Maybe if more of us didn't take that position of pre-emptive boycotting and we had watched, it wouldn't get cancelled. Kind of becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't make the mistake again - watch and support!
-
HOW has there not been a line of action figures made for this?!? You'd think the company that has made 12 variations of every character on Buffy and Angel would at least put out ONE of each character for Firefly!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!
-
I was wondering how long I would have to wait to see Amy Acker in a new show.
-
Kristen Bell will be on The Late Late Show Friday night.ShiftyEyedDog2, you make a good point. However, I was glad I did not see Firefly when it was broadcast but instead got to see all the episodes in the order in which they were intended to be seen.
-
That show definitely aint' gettin cancelled any time soon much to Herc's dismay. As for Amy, she even SOUNDED hot when she did the voice for the Huntress on Justice League Unlimited!
-
I hardly ever watched the show but I do recall a scene where Amy was walking across a room, toward camera, as a flaming helicopter descended behind her outside the window, in slow motion. That was a COOL action shot.
-
gotham - yeah i remember those Serenity figures, but there were only 3 characters (Mal, Jayne, Reaver) and they were HORRIBLE - ugliest I've ever seen. Why can't McFarlane or NECA or someone pick it up?!?Big Jim: That is the one reason I'm glad I'd waited. But I'd rather have multiple seasons with the first couple shown out of order than only 14 episodes total.
-
you should see what happened before, she takes the helicopter down with a freakin rocket launcher....beautiful moment. yay bad guys.
-
Soon, I betcha.
-
just posts there like he did at the Bronze (nitpicky). Good news about Amy. Also agree about giving Alexis some face time.
-
Was very happy when I read this. I agree with you oisin5199-would have been great to see a 6th season of Angel on screen, but I think the comics are doing an amazing job of continuing the story. And more Illyria..which is always good!
-
A similar theme, as with River in Firefly/Serenity. Whedon sure does love his sexy tomboy beanpole secret government programmed killing machines.
-
Jonathan M. Woodward - one of Whedones triples (Angel,Buffy and Firefly)...so I think we may see him in an episode of Dollhouse simply cos Whedon likes him and hes a great actor too.
I took would love to see Denisof back on TV. How has he not been snapped up by a show-he was amazing as Wesley. -
I think that's the wrong approach. How are shows supposed to make ratings if people don't watch them because they're afraid of cancellation. That's like being afraid of dating because your heart might get broken. Live for the now, my friend! I watched Firefly as Fox screwed it up, but then watched it again (and again) in the order they were intended. It was certainly more enriching to see things work out how they were meant to, but at the same time, there's a certain energy to watching something as it's broadcast - that sense of wonder, discovery, and anticipation at the same time that everyone else is discovering it. And by everyone else, I mean the handful of people who watched it while it was on. It's the reason why I only watch 2 other shows (Lost and BSG) practically live and the rest I DVR. Though it's harder with BSG since it's a weekend, and I do still tend to go out on Friday nights. And there were more than 3 Serenity action figures. Dark Horse is still selling them, along with those little ship replicas and the lunchboxes.
-
I love Fred (Amy) more than any fictional character ever created. I was already psyched for this show...now I am.... psycheder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Seriously, she's like a toothpick. But MORE seriously, I am also semi-in love with her. She's got that great ass swoop off the back thing...and sure, no breasts to speak of...but i can look past. We're growing as a person...we are.
-
If you've read the description of Dollhouse, the Dolls aren't actually assassins. They take on various fantasy roles according to the needs and desires of the client. So it's not really like River so much. Maybe it's more of River + Inara. Okay, that's a nice image.
I was hoping for Woodward (Knox) as the tech guy, but I guess he's already played that role. I hope to see him show up for this one, too. -
You beat me fair and square.
-
... How was that supposed to end anyway?
-
He was the best actor of all Joss's shows. The subtle things he did taking Wes from goofy to dark to slightly crazy by the end of the Buffi-verse in the last season of Angel was phenomenal. No character had such a wide arc. And the traitorous lab guy mentioned early was named Knox on the show. He was good too. Not sure the actors name.
-
Before the show is even ready to air, AICN'ers begin the cry, "Save Dollhouse!"
-
...or something? Or does he just want that ass really, really bad? lol I mean, really.
-
like others have said, not going to bother watching until, 1 season is in the bag and second season confirmed. it has joss, it has folks from the wheldon universe. i know its going to be good. but im tired of watching great shows only for them to e canceled, for another reality show. fox is the absolutely worst network ever to support new shows. this decision for most of us does not come likely, but quite frankly we're fucked off in investing the time in a new show only to have it ripped away from us. RIP kitchen confidential, space above and beyond, angel, wonderfalls, journeyman, firefly and the fucking rest!
-
I can't wait to see more of Amy Acker in a Whedon show. And my oh my is she a babe.
-
...tonight's episode might pull ya back in. Also, LANA WAS A NO SHOW IN THIS ONE!!! :)
-
skin tight leather Pretty pretty please.
-
Wake up! Tomorrow is Forgetting Sarah Marshall day!
-
Amy Acker is an effin GODDESS!
-
I think you're absolutely right! We need to nip this thing in the bud and start sending Dolls to the Fox executives.
BRING BACK DOLLHOUSE, YOU BASTAGES!!! -
If there's one talent that Joss Whedon possesses, its finding GOOD TALENT. Amy Acker is a phenomenal actress. Though it wouldn't help if she downed a few steaks. Her transformation from Fred to Illyria was MIND BOGGLING. Her entire character changed, her entire body language, her speech. I was blown away by her performance and felt bad for Fred's demise. And Acker was amazingly convincing as an evil bitch in Alias. I couldn't help but hate her. She deserves the best roles and great success. Wish her the best.
-
Unless he explicitly told Joss he doesn't want to focus on TV acting, he should put him in there. He can write better for him than almost anyone else it seems.
-
this show is going to make it past the fall, much less to a second season. -
Soon she will learn to appreciate me. :licks her face:
-
Wow, I guess it hadn't registered with me that Joss is getting a new show. Too bad it's on Fox, but all the same, it's about time. Given his past shows, I can't imagine not loving it.
-
She is by far the cutest and hottest chick around. Teaming her up with Dushku is a stroke of genius. Now if Morena would also be there the holy trinity will be complete. I am so there, although a Faith series would have been better.
-
Damn, I thought that show was done forever when they introduced Kara Cousin Oliver, so when the fuck did they get grown up writers? That was an incredible episode! I always liked the show, without thinking all that much of it quality-wise, but for one hour, they kept it up to Lost, BSG quality (on their better nights, that is). Or maybe I drank too many beers. Either way, what the fuck?
-
All you geeks can have your Acker. I'll take the Dushku.
-
Seeing as Buffy (1997) fans are always hijacking Doctor Who (1963) threads to rail against how Doctor Who steals everything from Jesus Whedon... is there actually any evidence that there will anything remotely original about this new nonsense? Or will it just be the usual ripping-off of superior TV shows that Whedon et al hope their 15 year old audience are too young to have heard of? I know what my money's on... Good to know they're filling it with a good T&A quota. At least they know their target audience. Who needs drama when you have cleavage, d00d!
-
I really disagree with that. Ever show he's done has sounded stupid (valley girl vampire killer, vampire detective, and space western... no really a western in space), but I think that was kind of the point. To take cliche storylines and twist them. So naturally there are situations that are seemingly "stolen" but the punchline is what makes it original. There was a Firefly episode where Mal gets in a huge fight with one of the bad guys henchmen. Jane and Zoe bust in to save him. Jane moves to help, Zoe stops him and say sometime cliched like "Captain's gotta work this out himself". Mal croaks out, "No I don't". All his series are filled with scenes like that.
-
one of them anyway. I rolled when he saidthat, and she said. "Oh." and they ll shot the guy. Brilliant.
