Merrick here...

Scripter Timothy J. Sexton (CHILDREN OF MEN) is adapting the Spanish thriller TIMECRIMES, which has been acquired for remakeification by United Artist.

The film is...

"a noirish thriller about a man who travels back in time half an hour to prevent a serious crime."

...says THIS ARTICLE in Hollywood Reporter.

Here's a trailer for the original film:

I remember a way imperfect (but kinda fun) TV series called 7 DAYS. Do you? I also remember DEJA VU. And I remember...

I saw the original version of this film at a film festival and it was great except for the annoying sub titles which I kept having to look down to read. It will be good not having to do that.

You mean one of the 6 people involved with making the Children of Men movie has another movie? I can't believe he is leaving his sextet behind. Wow this news is almost as hot as the new movie being produced by one of the nine producers of Enchanted, Barry Josephson. I wonder what the extras from There Will Be Blood are up to next?

Tim Sexton was the only REAl CoM writer

    by spencertrilby

since the two Iron Man writers were unfairly credited by the WGA for their unused draft, while the other REAL scribes (Cuaron and Owen) were just snubbed by the very same shitty guild.

    Great movie

    by hookman

I saw this at the Horrorhound Fest a few weeks ago in Indianapolis. It really is quite a good movie, only 4 characters, and not what you would expect. I am not sure why it is being remade, aside from the general public not reading subs (Ala Funny Games), because it is fine just the way it is, minimalistic.

    REMAKES

    by gungan slayer

YAY we're all talentless dumbasses that have nothing better else to do but to remake foreign films for american audiences! HOT DAMN stop this shit. there are tons of young writers and filmakers out there filled with creative, unique and new ideas---give them a fucking chance. Stop this remake shit. AND STOP THE FUCKING AMERICANIZING OF FOREIGN FILMS.

    Children Of Men

    by lecter1914

I get so tired of people acting like those of us who didnt just love Children Of Men are in some way retarded. So now I fire back. It was okay, but for the most part it was boring and thoroughly unengaging. It felt more like a director realizing he had no story to tell just said FUCK IT !!! I'll show them what I can do with my camera so they wont be so bored. Not a horrible movie but I really dont get all of the praise.

  • ... no they are not real words but it is true. Saw this at Fantastic Fest last year. I dare someone to find a plothole in this movie. Everything fits perfectly which is very very hard to do in this genre. This is the best time travel movie I have seen, and like Knuckleduster I was tired of plotholes and inconsistencies in time travel movies and tv shows before i saw this. Now I see time travel can be translated to the screen in a believable way. I heard Nacho is still directing the remake which is great. BTW if you want to see Timecrimes, it will be playing at the Marfa Film Festival at the beginning of May. The schedule will be up soon.

    Sound of Thunder

    by herb west

Sound of Thunder is a bit jarring at first, because we are not used to seeing such poor and unbelievable CG in movies today. If you can get by that and suspend your disbelief a bit more, you will see that this is a good solid little time travel movie.

    TimeCrimes

    by vindice

Saw it at Nevermore in Durham couple of months ago. It's a nice tight little thriller. well acted and shot. There is a military element in the periphery that they could greatly expand on and make a very different film.

Every time travel movie suffers from the same problem: showing the same scene over and over again. Yes, it's usually at a different POV or something in the scene is changed, but in the end it's the same scene.

Children of Men was revolutionary on two fronts

    by joesnuff

    A) Cinematography wise, the camera eye and placement engaged the viewer in so many ways that drew on the masters (Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, etc.) but in a new way.

    B) Narrative-wise this was probably the first actual true action film noir. That's why just expecting a great action film will leave most people unsatisfied.

Actually, it's more like going back in time 20 minutes...

    by big dumb ape

That's because once he goes back, he realizes 30 minutes isn't really all that much time to make a difference, and besides he really needs to use the can because of all that cheese he's been eating lately. But hey, once that business is taken care of, THEN he can get cracking on preventing that crime...

original is good but has 1 HUGE plothole

    by max404

i liked the original. intelligent & with some nice giallo elements

    but

it has 1 huge plothole and that's unfortunately the trigger of the whole story

won't spoil too much (but people that want to go in blind should stop reading)

but i dare anyone that has seen the film to explain how the protagonist could gotten in the timemachine in the first place since the REASON he got in is the fact that he already did so.....

I sent in a review of this

    by mooch

I sent in a review of about ten or twelve films (including this one) from Manchester's Spanish & Latin American Film Festival over a month ago and unfortunately it didn't appear here. I wouldn't mind but at the time there were about 3 reviews a day going up for 21 and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and they couldn't find room for a round up of upcoming gems from off the beaten track. Maybe it was a really shit report, but still...

Time Crimes was a lot of fun. (Er, the original review was more detailed!)
