Updated! Pixar's CARS Sequel Confirmed!! It's A Few Years Off, But On The Way...
Quint here... I was going to block out my own story on CARS 2, but that plan was kind of curtailed when the possible post-presentation meet and greet with Lasseter ended up falling through, so I couldn't follow-up with any specific questions, like if he's going to direct. They did have Larry the Cable Guy come out during the presentation and Lasseter asked if Mater had a passport because the CARS were going international. Guido and Luigi were my favorite parts about the first film, so here's hoping international means they are on an adventure in Italy and bring the others along for the ride. It was a quick announcement with little to no detail. But there's everything they said.
Merrick here...
Quint just called from the Disney soiree in New York City and wanted me to pass this along to ya'll.
Reliable sources had previously indicated told AICN that a CARS sequel was in the works for the 2011 (original report HERE).
Quint says Disney has just confirmed (literally just confirmed) that a CARS sequel will be released for Summer 2012. So, our folks were right...just off by a year.
Quint will be following up shortly with more details.

why continue the pain?
-
missed it by 10. Next time...
-
Even though my 3-year-old boy worships the movie. He'd hate my ass for saying that.
-
The glory of pixar has unglorified.
-
The only funny part of CARS was the guy yelling, "Freebird!"
-
Really thought it had a lot of heart (forgive the trite statement). And it was funny too. I will readily allow for Cars 2 in the time of Shrek the 5th and other crap animations.
-
yawn
-
It just wasn't as magical as their other films. Maybe because cars in general are something you're either going to dig or will just leave you cold. i'm sort of in the latter category on that one. But even the overly bubbly designs of the cars themselves seemed like something more akin to Dreamworks than the always on point Pixar. Ahh well.
-
and my yawn wasnt intended for 'Cars'. i actually thought it was great
-
Now there is a movie that warrants a sequel! Why are they doing another Cars for, it was nice but it was hardly their best flick. I wanna se Mr Incredible, Dash, Frozone, Elasti-girl and the rest going at more bad-guys. And bring that composer back for another great James Bond-esque soundtrack, that shit was super dope! Please please please!!!!
-
tie for worst, I'd say. Neither are bad, just not as good as their other films. There's much more demand for an Incredibles sequel.<p> Maybe there's more merchandising opportunities for a Cars sequel?
-
The only DVD from Pixar EVER which i did not buy. What a mediocre offering. Great CG, but lame story (LAME! From Pixar!) and uninteresting characters (UNINTERESTING! From Pixar!)<p>Back to my Incredibles-DVD. I won't watch Cars 2 if it is not a incredibly better sequel than the original.
-
...to Cars when theres so many other animals and objects to anthropomorphicize and name a movie after, like "The Bird's Tale" or "Plant Life" or "SKYSCRAPERS!"
-
I believe that 'Toy Story 3' will be released in 2010, following 'Up' in 2009. No idea what the 2011 film will be. But a 'Cars' sequel rather than an 'Incredibles' sequel? That really is ludicrous (unless 'Incredibles 2' will be in 2011, which I doubt). Surely one of the things that Pixar was most admired for was the way it concentrated on original films rather than sequels (except for the 'Toy Story' franchise).
-
Aint that the year the world comes to an end? December 21 2012 if i am not mistaken. All i know is that every movie that comes out that year better be good and if things need to get wrapped up thats the year to do it. lol
-
CARS was perfectly fine entertainment. Good story, lot of heart, memorable characters. No, it was not high art like Ratatouille, but last I checked, kids aren't playing with Remy the Rat dolls. Pixar is first and foremost a business, and Cars continues to be a cash cow for them. I look forward to a sequel.
-
quentintarantado, you're the shit! I have to get the word out, so I hope you don't mind my repost in this thread. (quentintarantado's original post below) stop uwe boll! by quentintarantado Apr 8th, 2008 04:37:57 PM Guardian news article says Uwe Boll promises to stop making movies if 1 million sign petition! http://tinyurl.com/4xmu8x Here's the Petition (116,000 signatures last I looked): http://tinyurl.com/6pgoj6

Cars and A bugs life were not that great. The animation was great but I just couldn't get into the stories. Not Pixars best. Now, Batman Begins on the other hand was NOT great at all and I'd LOVE to see the studio push The Dark Suck/Knight back to 2012 because we're supposed to have an apocolypse or something like that. Then we would all be spared that misery.
-
I'd much rather have a "The Incredibles" sequel. "Cars" was just okay by Pixar standards.
-
The Mayans are smiling..
-
I posted this a long time ago, but I still haven't gotten over it, so here it is: One of my biggest problems with "Cars" was that there is no reason for these cars to exist. There aren't any people! Why do they have doors and seats and trunks? I get that it's a fantasy, but I just can't get past the fact that there is no reason for cars to even exist without humans. Pixar's other anthropomorphic movies make sense because humans exist...I can "believe" that toys talk and move around when we're not watching, or that bugs are fighting an epic battle with the help of a flea circus, but I can't "believe" cars exist without people.

Cars?! Seriously? Why, did we piss on your unborn child???
by Womb2dooM
I was so bored by Cars, I left the cinema, found an X-Men vending machine, bought six little X-Men figures and went back into the cinema to play with them.<P>I was 24 at the time, not high, not ADD, no mental impairments I am aware of, just bored. I would have gone home by my ride home (heh, I don't drive - CLUE!) wanted to stay til the finish.<P>BORING movie. Can't say it enough. It's the only Pixar movie that I out and out dislike.<P>Having said that, my nephew LOVES the toys and has the movie playing in the background probably more often than not.
-
<p>It doesn't matter what any of you thought of CARS. The simple fact of the matter is that the first one raked in more $$$ for Disney in merchandising alone than ANY other Disney film in history.</p> <p>THAT'S why they're making a sequel. So stop wasting your energy complaining about it. Life's full of disappointments. Learn to deal with it.</p>
-
Indiana Jones 4, Die Hard 4...these things shouldnt be happening! Its a sign! A sign!
-
bar none. Why go back in the dung heap? SUre it was all shiny and bright with wonderful graphics. But the script and most of the vocals were appallingly bad. Like a Lucas production, really.
-
...gets a sequel. Way to go, Lasseter. What about 'Monsters Inc 2', you pipe?
-
Incredibles sequel please!!!!!! But don't touch Ratatouille, that one's perfect as a stand-alone.
-
Cars wasn't that spectacular... actually it was pretty average, unless you love looking at at examining Pixar's 3D work, because that's all I did...
-
I would have agreed had you of said that The Dark Knight should not be happening. Now there's an intelligent statement. Well, I do agree that Die Limp 4 sucked too. UP UP AND AWAAAAAAAY!
-
From a monster company that consistently put out solid gold movies, they dropped this turd - Cars. Yuck. I get it that it killed at the box office and with all the tie-ins. But come on, didn't EVERY OTHER Pixar film do the same? Make TS3 already.
-
Wow, what is happening at Pixar? Somehow I think they should have stayed away from Disney permanently. Hell, they could have been the NEW Disney for the 21st century if they were just patient and cut their own licensing deals with marketers, toymakers, and video game makers. I dont know the business side of it by a long shot, but I just dont get it. Oh well.

MONSTERS INC, NEMO = BEST PIXAR FILMS SO FAR
by Batman Begins Sucks Ass
-
But Cars was a HUGE disappointment. Jay Limo? Seriously? Come on, Lasseter! Take the "Incredibles" concept a step further and do a kick-ass, adult-themed action CGI film. Show Zemekis how it can really be done!
-
Weren't you going to start the John Carter of Mars trilogy in 2010 or 2011, Pixar? Your first PG-13 movie, targeted to adults? Full of action, bloodshed, and women dressed like Slave-Girl Leia? Please?
-
Ok, that one isnt mine, it was my girlfriends. Featuring John Ratzenberger as the rubber band ball.
-
I like Pixar's work but I didnt like cars. It didnt have the same appeal the others had.
-
That's what Pixar should be developing! It'd write itself in an instant.
-
Who the fuck wants a Cars sequel? I guess maybe kids, but I couldn't make it through that terrible, shitty movie.
-
it's the Incredibles. Cars is probably my least favorite of the Pixar movies. It's completely entertaining, watching it just doesn't pull me in like Ratatouille, Toy Story, and Finding Nemo.
-
But he thought that Batman Begins was total childish shit. Let the hate begin in 5, 4, 3, 2

Bleh. I mean it....Bleeeeeeeeehh
by Lloyd Bonafide the Korean War Veteran
i'd rather get a new rad pixar flick. what about the incredibles sequel? Cars creeped me out a little
-
Very interesting point. I just figured they wanted another crack at it since it was their first movie that didn't quite hit the mark.
-
i would hate for them to ruin ratatouille or nemo with a sequel. so maybe they'll improve what they didn't get right the first time around the track. heck. i know the red necks will hoot and holler for another flick based around nascar.
-
Cars, as the weakest Pixar entry, also has the most room to grow and be exceeded by a sequel, as long as they get the story right, which they do more often than not.< /br>< /br>That said, I prefer it when Pixar avoids sequels altogether and focuses on new, more original work.
-
Next up, a sequel to "The Meteor Man".
-
Disney is the owner -- they make movie to sell toys. Rats don't sell merch, cars do.
-
Maybe this is Pixar's chance to improve upon what went wrong with Cars. While I did not hate it, it certainly wasnt the same quality and caliber as the rest of Pixar's work. Maybe they know this and can make something good from it. I would rather see other sequels to their movies (Incredibles, Toy Story, Monster's Inc.) or new ideas, but if they fix their one weak movie than we can all look positively back on the films. Just a thought, I still trust Pixar to rock the shit out of everything, i.e. Wall-e, or at least it looks awesome.
-
More original ideas like Wall-E, Ratattoulle, etc please.
-
...favorite Pixar...guess I'll just join the gangbang...
-
they pick Cars? Don't get it. Does anyone really think Cars was Pixar's best flick? As others have said, The Incredibles was not only a much better movie and also sets up for another story more than any other Pixar movie. Cars certainly wasn't bad, but it also wasn't in quite the same league as The Incredibles, Nemo or even Monster, Inc. Unless they have some ingenious story idea here, this may be the first really questionable move they've made. Of course Pixar has yet to really misfire, so I guess I can still give them the benefit of the doubt until that happens.
-
Really? Cars wasn't great in my opinion. Now The Incredibles on the other hand. Loved by me and my 4 year old alike.
-
THERE. i said it all. (but really, Cars 2? thats a joke.)
-
and it didn't have a negative impact on my life...except right after it opened I started pissing my pants whenever the microwave turned on. Hulk Smash!
-
Because I don't care about Cars as a film, therefore I'm not worried about the sequel. If I like it, fine, if not, there will be plenty of good stuff to watch. I would be REALLY worried if it was a proposed sequel to the greatest CGI-animated film ever crafted: Finding Nemo. But it isn't.
-
Seriously, just what the fuck are these people thinking? I LOVE Pixar's stuff, and would welcome a sequel to any of them other than this. Cars? What's it geared toward? The little Nascar kids? By far Pixars only blunder.
-
ala the Teen Wolf sequel
-
I had to try one.
-
They can make all the CARS sequels they like. I didn't see the first one, and won't until it pops up on terrestrial TV in the UK. I just can't get excited by the vehicles-as-people thing. Just don't touch THE INCREDIBLES or RATATOUILLE - they're just perfect as they are. Leave them be.
-
I'll shush now.
-
Why don't they just hand the project off to Dreamworks? It's more suited to their tastes.
-
who got there first...
-
pixar is overrated
-
damnit
-
I am.
-
Awesome.
-
Too soon?
-
but it's not their worst either. In fact they're still to do a bad film as far as I'm concerned, but I'd put A Bug's Life as their weakest film. The Incredibles, Toy Story and Ratatouille stand at the top for me, with Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Cars and Finding Nemo next up. Wall-E though looks like it might give Incredibles and Toy Story a good challenge though.<p><p>Cars 2 could be great if they shorten it and open up the world past Radiator Springs. The best animation in the first are the scenes at the race track and the real-world stuff (the truck travelling the roads at night is an unexciting scene but so well animated it's almost photorealism). Like everyone else I'd happily swap it for The Incredibles 2 but at least they're not trying to force a story out of one of their films whose story and characters are definitely over - Finding Nemo took way more money but a part 2 of that wouldn't work. At least Cars 2 has places for its characters to go.
-
...they're making this sequel because millions of boys around the world bought Cars Shirts, Cars Toys, Cars Bed Sheets, Cars Tooth Brushes, Cars Costumes, Cars Sippers, Cars Cereal, Cars DVDs, Cars Took Kits and of course, Cars Cars. Didn't see a lot of Incredibles merchandise flying off the shelves. So don't think we'll see a sequel anytime soon.
-
...there goes the talkback.
-
One of the last studios if not the last one that didn't churn out sequels and rehashs for the money has passed away! just look number of pixar sequels in they entire history? 1 in 12 years, number of sequels in the next 3 fucking years 2! way to go Pixar. Seems they bog hollywwod desease just hit them hard, they running out of original ideas. Only reason for a cars sequel it's money, the story, characters and world culdn't even sustain one movie!
-
Anyone know?
-
like the video game
-
Is that accurate?
-
Cars was okay. great animation and some nice stuff storywise but its reeeeaaallly hard to imagine a situation in which anyone would willingly say 'lets go see Cars 2!' with any enthusiasm.<p> it'd be more like the kind of thing that you'd watch in an airport if your flight was delayed by several hours and you had nothing better to do.<p>
-
Cos i love Pixar (im an Animation student, so it goes beyond just liking the films) and i liked Cars..... but i really dont think it even needs a sequel... theres not an easy story to tell in that universe. the entire universe existed to tell that story, it wasnt a pre-existing idea. I absolutly agree The Incredibles is the only Pixar film that NEEDS a sequel. Cars 2 will really have to have something hugely appealing to make me convinced. It cant just simply be something threatening the town which in the end calls for some kind of race..... there honestly is no story i even want to see in the universe.... and this is an animator with a Cars poster above his bed talkin.

Fuck sake, give us a Bugs Life sequel, not this shit!
by judge dredds fresh undies
Even though half the supporting voice cast have died. I enjoyed cars but as has been said no one was screaming out for a sequel.
-
for those that can't seem to understand why Cars 2 is being made... ITS CALLED $$$$$. Disney and Pixar ARE BUSINESSESES (someone quick, correct my spelling). <p> Cars is one of the only movies where the related toy line has actually increased revenue and profits the subsequential years following its release. Typically toy sales spike the year the movie comes out, then fade down after. CARS toy sales didn't. <p> its all about the money.

Boring from beginning to end with a painfully slow middle.

Why are so many people demanding it as a wish project? It was announced ages ago and is coming out in 2010. In 3D - after the first two are rerelased after also being reformatted into 3D versions. And you just know it's going to make money like it's going out of fashion - incredible for a third film released 11 years after the previous franchise entry.
-
and, you're welcome for the TB diversions

... we're here to vocalise.<P>I'm 26, therefore - adult. Mostly literate. Love adult orientated and kids cartoons alike. Enjoyed all other Pixar movies, even some Dreamworks movies. If when you refer to "target audience" you must mean people who enjoy shallow, pop-culture heavy, uninspired animated picture shows. So, I guess, no, I'm not that target audience. Cars left me dry.<P>Not to detract from your generalised perception, but I'm not sure I know of a single adult who loved Cars.<P>Oh, and easy on the "twat" shit. People are just voicing their opinions here because the people on the bus won't listen. Deal with it. ... See what I did there? I held a mirror up to you anti-social, textual hand to the face climax. Bam! Now, you been served, yo. I take it to ya. Ride up on it. Beleed dat! ... Twat.
-
You forgot to mention the scary infatuation America has with Larry The Cable Guy.

because by making Cars 2, Disney is condemning us all to the worst possible sort of hell. I seriously would rather watch 4 fast 4 furious.

...but cars isn't necessarily one that needs a sequel. I think they are doing a sequel becuase that is when DCA will be opening their mega E Ticket Cars attraction (and wow what an attraction they got planned) a little earlier than the release of the movie and that momentum will be enough to generate the interest of the movie so this one will likely be a hit. For those not in the know, Toy Story ends with part 3. Lasseter always had a trilogy planned on his terms. I agree with the majority though, I still want my Incredibles 2 and John Carter which I hear is very likely closer to starting due to Disney about to write off the Narnia films after Dawn Treader.
-
I'm not surprised that Disney are nervous about Narnia. For starters it's a mistake to release Prince Caspian in the summer - it's hardly had any attention in such a busy season and yet there's pretty much no competition around Christmas time, the period the last Narnia film did so well in. And the cocky annonsement they made about there being a film of each book, one every year - fat chance. The Magician's Nephew is a good little read but would make a dull prequel onscreen; The Horse and his Boy is just dull and The Last Battle is far too dark, complex and religious too do justice to in a Disney film. It's about the rise of false religions leading to the end of the world - and characters are killed for no reason other than to live in heaven - except for the one who stopped believing who isn't allowed. It's a great, great book but ot for a Disney film. But at least finish with The Silver Chair and run even with the BBC adaptations.
-
is like saying Tyra Banks is the worst supermodel, or Allyson Hannigan is the ugliest Scooby, or Allison Robertson is the ugliest guitar player. They're all still great and smoking. Cars was great. Photo-realistic, and the kids loved it. Plus it had a different feel overall. Lowest Pixar can do is 9.5 out of 10, so please stop complaining. And if so, please rate 100 animated movies that are better. WHat? There aren't even 10 that are better?
-
I'm not a car person at all. And I didn't like it much the first time -- kind of draggy. But after several dozen more times (kids) I really enjoy it. It's not their best but it's still quite good. Maybe it's because I've never been exposed to Larry the Cable Guy other beyond this film. I was going to add that it's more complicated to tell a story without a major villain, but then I realized very few Pixar movies have one. Maybe that's why they're so good.
-
I saw this article when it was first posted and wondered how it got 200 posts so quick. <p> Now I know!
-
Ten animated films better than Pixar or ten better than Cars? Because I've been sticking up for Cars and agree with your comment that Pixar have yet to make a bad film but that's a stupid comment to make. There's are easily ten better animated films than Cars.
-
Really. The toys for Cars has grossed Pixar, from what I've heard, more money than the toys from the other films combined. Add that to the fact that toy sales for Cars is actually increasing, not the other way around.</p><p>You could look at this as a bad thing, if you like. But Pixar enjoys making money, just like any other movie studio. I guarantee you, if Pixar didn't make money, they wouldn't make films at all. So year, it is a money decision, and a smart one at that.</p><p>Cars was also my least favorite Pixar film. But it isn't horrible and it is actually very personal to Lasseter. There is nothing wrong with this decision, just not our (geeks) favorite one by Lasseter and Co.
-
what was I thinking?
-
more exposure for Larry the Cable guy.
-
I could list 100 ANIMATED movies better than Cars, but I assume you mean 10 better *CG* animated better than Cars.<P>Here we go, in no order;<P>Toy Story<P>Toy Story 2<P>A Bugs Life<P>The Incredibles<P>Finding Nemo<P>Surf's Up<P>Appleseed<P>Appleseed sequel<P>Ratatoullie<P>Ice Age<P>Ice Age 2<P>Meet The Robinsons<P>I actually could list many more I enjoyed more.<P>But, in the end, you are right. It's not the worst. A Sharks Tale is.
-
Ah the memories. Come on now...Why Cars Will Suck? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLhetTX8Too http://silencecanneverstaysilent.blogspot.com/
-
Some day. Recall when Stallone answered questions here at AICN around Rocky Balboa and "someone" asked him whether he'd be interested in an Incredibles Sequel. He said yes. Such a random question right? Nothing random about it. That was of course me. And I wasn't asking. I was trying to get the ball rolling. With The Incredibles sequels...
-
Cars would have made a great short film. Ratatoullie made all that Dreamworks crap look good.
-
But I silently accepted his challenge (in my head) and came up with ten. And yes. No animated movie, that I've seen compares to the absolute awfulness that is A Shark's Tale.
-
Not sure why all the hate. I don't even like NASCAR. Kids love cars, esp talking cars. Cable guy was at his funniest. Actually I was scrolling down to bitch that it's over 4 years til it comes out. WTF am I supposed to do with myself til then?
-
He also liked Jackson's King Kong, too, so, well, you know...
-
maybe because this was the most "kiddy" of all Pixar films it gets a lot of hate but man oh man do my kids love this movie. And the toys are endless entertainment for them. Merchandising has by far done better than the movie, hence the sequel. I'm looking forward to it cuz I know my kids will be totally jazzed for it. Shame it's four years off.
-
But it's clear that Disney was just trying to tap into a Dubya-era heightened cultural significance of NASCAR, NASCAR dads, Blue Collar Comedy and general Git 'r Done-edness. When it comes out in 2012 and Bush and Cheney are in The Hague serving a life sentence as a war criminal, where will Larry the Cable guy be? Hopefully working at a Cracker Barrel. Although I'm sure The Incredibles sequel isn't happening because in 2012, the superhero movie could be a Hollywood pariah.
-
A perfectly fine movie. Not exactly Pixars finest, but neither was Bugs Life. But . . . I agree, an Incredibles sequel should be their top priority for sequeling. That was such a rich and compelling world, and such great characters, I'm desperate for more follow up than just "Jack Jack Attack" (although that was cute, too). Please, Brad Bird: Incredibles 2. Please!
-
is too good for Larry the cable guy. He'll be the sign twirling guy standing on the corner promoting a cheap grits breakfast.
-
For a non-story, it seems to have a previously unknown release time-table and a basic plot rundown (CARS goes international). Thanks for your scathing critique, though.
-
it's fracking pixar and disney. they are companies. companies that make products for kids. and guess what- companies make money (it's kinda what they do).<p> if they didn't make money, toy story 3 would be animated with fracking stick figures and posted on youtube.
-
Hahaha. Damn.

did anyone over the age of six actually DIG cars?
by vaudeville villain
i mean, yea it was a cute little story, yadda yadda, but seriously... it's hard to believe that there's actual clamoring for this project. monsters inc. 2? absolutely. incredibles 2? without question. but cars? ehhhh not so much. first drillbit taylor, now this? starting to wish owen would've followed through with the ol' life taking thing... kidding, of course...
-
Mother of pearl, really? Cars 2? Incredibles 2 doesn't make sense just because it'd be awesome; I want to see what the Parrs get up to now that they've got their shit together.
-
Don't get me wrong, THE Pixar movie that warrants a franchise is The Incredibles... but Cars is their best performer in merchandising (upwards of $2 billion). Trust me, I know. My 2 1/2 son is obsessed with Cars. He has something like 74 of the die cast cars characters... and I gotta admit, his mom and I are obsessed with collecting them BUT that's because he flips out when he gets em so... <p> Beyond merchandising, Cars ranks up there with the Toy Story movies as far as being the most kid friendly of the bunch. Keep in mind, the 2-6 year olds that love Cars now and have all of the toys will be THE demographic 4 years from now for this sequel. <p> While it may be the weakest of the Pixar movies, it is certainly better and more memorable than any of the other CG movies out there. And I have to admit, it grows on you. Being a parent that watches it constantly, after a few viewings it's strange how much more you begin to like it. That's saying alot because I can't stomach the 90s Disney movies over and over like I can with Pixar movies.
-
Thankfully, Pixar doesn't make a sequel unless they have an outstanding story that takes the characters to new and better places... not location mind you, but character growth. <p> Obviously, since no Incredibles sequel has been announced, they haven't gotten to that point yet. You gotta respect that. I'd much rather they wait then jump into a sequel for the wrong reasons. Yeah, Cars is huge because of merchandising and the little ones, but I'm willing to bet that Pixar wouldn't waste 4 years of their time unless they had a better story than the first one. They did it with Toy Story 2, why can't they elevate Cars? <p> For the record, I think Ratatouille is the least ENJOYABLE Pixar release. Now, it's a great film and explores some great ideas. It deserved an Oscar and the accolades it received. But honestly, how many people are going to be revisiting that as much as the Toy Story movies, Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and yes... Cars. In my mind, it was a bit TOO grown-up. But maybe because I could care less about cuisine. Who knows.
-
Me thinks 15 minutes is almost up...
-
I just dont care. Thats it in a nutshell, I didnt care about most of the characters the End was anticlimatic and The "moral" was retarded (evolution of american highways has ruined small truckstop towns) Who give a flying fig. and I swear to The Almighty if I have to hear another Andy Newman Song I'll Blow my Head off right after I take the nearest Govenment Building.
-
Repeat, kids LOVE Cars. As a 32 year old, I think Incredibles is amazing and far superior. But I have friends with small children, and those kids are obsessed with Cars - they love the movie and the characters. That is why they are still making toys. That is why an attraction is being built at California Adventure. That is why a sequel is happening. There are millions of fans for this movie, they just happent to be children. I know, I know, catering to kids with animation is crazy, but sometimes it happens...
-

a compromise: the incredibles 2 featuring a talking
by vaudeville villain
family mini-van that doubles as the parrs' remote base. designed by ford. voiced by val kilmer. see? this way, we get the only pixar sequel people over six would actually give a rat's ass to see, while pixar is still able to capitalize on merchandizing.... not to mention mr. kilmer will be able to fend off the repo man for, what, at *least* three more months!
-
Give me my "Incredibles" sequel, dammit! If any Pixar movie warrants at least two sequels, it's that one.
-
Larry the Cable Guy will have dethroned Howard Stern as the Czar Of All Media by the time this movie comes out.

they are not making this sequel just to piss off a bunch of talkbackers....kids fucking love cars. My son loves...all his friends love it....the kids at his preschool love. Thats who they are making it for. so relax.
-
it actually gets a better from repeated viewings.
-
That movie should forever be a stand alone, perfect voice casting, beautiful animation and a great story. I hate that to be ruined like so many other movies with sequels.
-
cargo.
-
Oh, and....Cars PWNS Toy Story. That's right, I said it! However, I would rather see Incredibles 2: More Incredibler
-
...no, he won't. Brad Lewis, producer of The Incredibles, is making his directorial debut with Cars 2.
-
Did they find an unused script for "Doc Hollywood 2" that they can steal from by changing all the human characters to cars, like they did with the first movie?
-
Stop the madness. This is just a bad idea.

Cars 2: Batman Begins sucks and so will Dark Knight
by Batman Begins Sucks Ass
-
Everything they produce is gold, but I do think Cars has been their weakest picture. Whereas toys, bugs and robots already have eyes and facial features, cars don't. So it was harder to make that leap and buy into the personification of automobiles. Toy Story, Nemo and Monsters remain their best work.
-
What the HELL?! Why make this? CARS was a piece of soulless shit; the only Pixar movie everyone hates or is totally indifferent to.
-
WTF that nasty piece of crap is doing in any kids film is beyond me.
-
..? like...seriously `?
-
The chracters in cars are cars with eyes in their windshields. Windshields = the width of the car. Huge eyes equal cute. cute equals small kids love it and buy any and all merchandise. The reason we're getting a sequel is because the cars have some of the largest eyes of any animated characters outside of Hello Kitty or Pokemon.
-
The very reason why Pixar are making Cars is because they made a liberal-progressive film known as the Incredibles. Yes its true, because of its liberal undertones Disney decided to make Pixar make a film for the mortage belt who don't really get those films with an anti-fascist message, heck if they knew what a fascist was they wouldn't have foolishly voted for one! So Cars is designed for those simple narrow mind anti-abortion pro gun redneck folk. Most of the Talk backers here are either a liberal-democrat or at worst a liberal republican. For every Liberal minded, outward film Pixar make Disney make they make cars. But that necessarily isn't a bad thing appealing to a broad audience.
-
...to make a sequel to their least well received movie. Got to give you props Pixar.
-
...who gives a damn?
-
The year 2012 will mark the return of Lightning McQueen, Mater the tow truck, and an international cast of favorite and new car characters in Pixar's "Cars 2," directed by Brad Lewis (producer of "Ratatouille").
-
Okay, my two kids love the movie, so I personally don't mind the thought of a sequel. I know it's 99.9% to drive more marketing - like Star Wars, they needed to make more movies because they've run out of toy variants (altho I still want my Apple car that was shown in all of what two frames)... But if anyone from Pixar is reading, please consider an INCREDIBLES sequel!
-
I hope so. This is a Volkswaggon...he talks like...well...you know. And here's the white trash tow-truck love interest. And that's the taco truck. And over there is the F-1 car voiced by Sacha Baron Cohen. Something not right about him.... And don't forget Optimus Prime! He's on FIRE! Still...missing something. Oh right, maybe we can throw in a Tim Allen motorcycle? Possibly call the the wild hog. Yes...that should do it. ;)
-
All in good fun. I'm sure most folks would agree that if Cars is considered their worst movie then they could be doing much worse.
-
Acutually, I love All of Pixar's movies! Except for CARS. The reasons? 1. I'm not 3 years old. 2. I'm not a redneck sister-fucker who watches NASCAR. 3. I hate Owen "DICKNOSE" Wilson. The guy peaked with Bottle Rocket. 4. I already saw CARS when it was called Doc Hollywood.
-
Honestly, I would rather they NEVER make a sequel if Brad Bird isn't writing and directing it. Without him, it's just another shitty kids movie with Shrek 3 level jokes. Let them make CARS so all the retarted children can play in the dirt of the trailer parks with more CARS toys from their "White Trash Happy Meals."
-
...if I'm right, Cars was Lassiter's pet project so I'm not surprised this is the one picked out for sequeling - I believe the merchandise played a big part in making the decision, but I also believe that Pixar would not make the sequel without genuinely believing it could supersede its predecessor...its four years away so its not as if they're gonna just rush it out; I call it now that Cars 2 will be great.
-
never have I wanted to have intercourse with an animated woman so badly. Elastigirl was the hots
-
I respectfully disagree. I thought Nemo was brilliant and Monsters Inc was clever, original and entertaining. The trouble with cars is 1) weak story and 2) as someone above mentioned, the world of Cars has no people, and the inanimate objects that get animated don't have eyes or ears to begin with, so it's difficult to make that leap and believe, even for fun, that heaps of metal and rubber can talk and interact. Whereas with animals or toys I found it easier to buy into the fantasy of their coming to "life" and having "person"alities
-
Give me a nude elastigirl, and please get Holly Hunter to do that voice again. Sexy sexy!
-
'cause god knows we're all dying to see how the red dynamo we know as lightning mcqueen came to be. and by that, i mean his assembly.
-
the pet pig was about the ONLY thing cars left out.
-
The voice does along way, too. Makes me melt. <p> Conversely, it also gives me a Fro-zoner.

In every preceeding Pixar movie, the main characters have been somebody or something that lived among "regular" humans. The main characters lived lives that were in one way or another unknown to "regular" humans. <p> Toys that are really "alive"; Bugs who hav societies much like humans'; Monsters crossing between ther world and ours; Ocean creatures have societies much like humans'; Superheroes now live secretly among "regular" humans; Rodents have societies much like humans' (and can cook!). <p> But Cars, broke this mold - there were no humans. It took away a component that made the story a little more relatable to the viewing audience, who was not made up of living automobiles. Movies often use a character who will reflect somethign familiar to the general audience to help bring that audience closer to the main characters in a film (who are usually very different from the general audience viewing the film.) <p> It's why you have Vicki Vale and Knox in Burton's Batman; it's why you have Hobbits being relatively "ignorant" about the greater world outside the Shire; it's partially what Lois Lane is for in Superman (besides a love interest); it's one of the things that makes Spiderman so accessible to reader for almost 50 years. <p> ALl that said, Cars is not a "bad" movie, but I do think it was not as well-rounded as previous Pixar films. I thought it was better than I expected, but my expectations were low. It's a cute film, with a few clever moments, but it doesn't top, or get next to, Toy Story or Incredibles.
-
Visually, the film was amazing. The voice-acting was good, but this film never grabbed me the way some of the other Pixar films did. And I think it's partly because I had a hard time identifying with Brook's character (maybe b/c I don't have kids?) and Degeneres' character annoyed me 98% of the time she was on-screen. Plus, there wasn't really anything very interesting about either of the main characters - the Father and Nemo. The Father panicked the whole time and Nemo was a one-note "lost kid". <p> Again, not a bad job with the material that was written, but a critique of not flushing their personalities out to make these characters more interesting. I preferred the fish in the tank to almost all fo the other characters in the movie (the sharks are fine, too, but they're a minor role).
-
When will the hurting end?
-
Incredibles was a 'liberal-progressive' film? Perhaps liberal in the classical definition of the word (with the emphasis placed on individualism both economic and social), but not the modern interpretation of liberal - and most definitely not progressive (which historically has more connections with the kind of nationalism associated with fascism).
-
I disagree, the whole premise of the film is about a man whose exciting life as a hero is taken away from him and through the need to provide for his family he must work as a capitalist slave and part take in the ratrace. His true desire however is to become a hero, a hero has no boss coming to him about sales figures, uniforms or trying to lower his pay. It is a liberal progressive film as it demonstrates the life of a family that is progressively minded. The intepretation of liberal that I am referring to is social-liberal, not classical. If anyone had the ability to live outside the capitalist sphere of "working your arse off for nothing or some arsehole insurance company" then I am sure the great majority would pick the other option. FDR once said that all human beings are entitled to a life that is free from fear and need. That need stems from a person's sacrifice to provide for their family even if they have to work one of those horrid 9-5 jobs working for the man.
-
It would be cool to see Luigi and Guido visit Maranello, were Ferraris are "born" or go to the Italian Grand Prix. Wonder if we will have any more professional driver cameos, like Schumacher had in the first one.
-
How was it that Bob was forced into giving up the work he really enjoyed doing? The state regulated it out of existence for the 'common good' - and in doing so created another, more dangerous problem. The whole film is about acknowledging and accepting natural inequalities that arise from our being born with different natural abilities. I'm not the only one to point this out. Many have viewed the film as positively Randian in theme. The fact that human beings live in need is a good thing - it allows others to fill the need out of genuine love and concern. Remove need, and we as individuals no longer have to demonstrate genuine love and concern and action. We simply expect the state to do it instead - and they are ill equipped for it.
-
While Bob clearly doesn't enjoy his job at Insuracare, there's no indication that he's not being well paid for his work. His family certainly didn't appear to be struggling financially, and Helen was a stay-at-home mom.
-
I'm a NASCAR fan so.... And I like Doc Hollywood to. Hope they make Monsters Inc. 2
