New HD & Quicktime Clip from IRON MAN!!!

Published at:  Apr 08, 2008 5:48:07 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... sore as hell and feeling the burn - but here at my post doing the job. Tonight there's a new IRON MAN clip online in HD and QUICKTIME - and I'm using it as an excuse to share. When I was at SKYWALKER RANCH - I had to stop by and visit with my ex-director of JOHN CARTER OF MARS - Jon Favreau and wish him well on IRON MAN and... well... see what I could see. He was mixing on the Akira Kurosawa stage at Skywalker Sound - which had great posters for a few Kurosawa films - but also a French 2-sheet for the silent LOST WORLD. Really magnificent poster. Wish I had a picture... or had stolen it... but that's just one of many items that I wanted to steal. Fuck it, I'd pull up a large U-Haul to that place. Damn it rocks - and I will write about it all when I calm down from all this life shit that's plaguing me.

Anyway - Favreau showed me the footage that was shown at WONDER CON that weekend and that last full length trailer... but the real show was barely in my site from my seat... what was that? The mixing going on - in the room that we had a window to. They were mixing the Mark 1 fight and escape from the cave and the "terrorists?" Some of the pictures that have recently appeared online of that scene are frames out of a sequence that just freaking looked amazing in motion... for the brief seconds I saw. We mainly talked about REPULSORS... they're a big deal for me. Jon doesn't want to overuse them in this first film... but he assures they're in there... but at the time I was at Skywalker - they had yet to clearly create "the sound of a REPULSOR ray." Personally - in my monkey mind - I always imagined they sounded a bit like the Martian War Machine ray from George Pal's WAR OF THE WORLDS... at least when I read the comics... that's what I wanted it to sound like as a kid.

Anyway - wanted to share that little bit - like I said - I was only there for about twenty minutes - but one of the scenes I saw has just been released. And it looks real damn cool! Sure, I may have worked a bit with Favreau on our project, but I actually had a reason to really not like this film, as Jon's signing onto IRON MAN - kinda gave Gail Berman the permission to kill JOHN CARTER... but dude... I can't blame Jon... it's fucking IRON MAN! And the thing is... the shit load of work that he was overseeing on JCOM - told me that he was ready to step up and annihilate geek ass on a massive scale, and that's exactly what this IRON MAN looks like. This movie looks like geek paradise. I just wish the pointed mask (TALES OF SUSPENSE 50 - which I believe also intro'd the Mandarin)

Well Here's where the clip is... sorry for my rambling... CLICK HERE FOR IRON MAN GOODNESS

And then there's this FLASH clip from IRON MAN that was over at SciFi Click Here

They're both billionaire superheroes with cool gadgets, but other than that they're fundamentally different characters. It'd be like lumping the 2 of them in there with Blue Beatle or Green Arrow. I'll concede that maybe the movie Batman shares more with Iron Man since they've played up the importance of his gadgets and armor in Begins, which is the comparison they're probably trying to avoid.

Some impatient geeks can't wait to see this stuff. Do you seriously lack the control to just not click on a trailer? And a clip is a new development concerning the marketing of a movie, hence movie news.

    by blindambition238

The last time I was genuinely surprised and excited to see a movie poster or trailer was back in 1999 when I saw the X-Men teaser poster in the theater lobby. Until that moment I had no idea an X-Men movie was even in the works. It got me excited enough to use the internet to look up info and thats pretty much how I discovered this site and the rest of the movie net world.

Thats funny, because I remember the first X-Men being one of the first movies I was completely spoiled on. I'd seen every trailer and clip available on the net back then, knew all the casting and alternate casting, and had even read reviews and synopsis of the script way ahead of time. I knew the entire movie going in. Now, nearly 10 years later, I'm attempting to remain totally clean about an upcoming movie, which i will not mention here since somebody will most likely spoil it to me.

    by jethrobodine

Why the fuck does she still keep getting work? Cause she's BEAUTIFUL?!??!?! She's gonna ugly up this film just the way Kirsten Dunst did in Spiderman films. What's with ugly skanks being inserted into our wetdream superhero movies? We wait forever to finally have "OUR" stuff developed into films, and then they rob us of our eye candy? Why can't we have good lookin actresses like Charlize Theron or Thora Birch? They have the chops and are a whole lot better to look at than the dirty dishrags we've been given lately. Jennifer Garner, well that was a fluke, and Hallie Berry, a trainwreck. The hot chick from Transformers, she didn't need to be anything more than that, and she was perfect. It's not like this is fucking HAMLET. It's not hard to find a good looking actress with the acting brevity to pull this off. C'mon Hollywood, pull your head out of your ass. ..isn't it to do with the CGI not being up to scratch yet? Hard to promote the hulk film when you can't show many clips of the hulk.

As much as i'm looking forward to iron man i do wish marvel would ease up on how much they show us. Granted it's not as bad as Spidey 3. (we'd seen a full trailer by the christmas before it was released ffs) Also, how camp is iron man's pose just before he lifts off?

    by creasybear

Telling everyone the ending to the Sixth Sense before the movie comes out, now that is spoiling a movie. Iron Man isn't some mystery or twist-ending flick. I've watched Aliens a dozen times, and the next time I watch it, I'll still love it, and none of it will be "spoiled".

Well, if i got it correctly, that Scene is just a bit before he crash-lands in his house, as seen in the Trailer.
I really hope the Movie to become good. But in fact, we all know quite much about IronMan, so I hope, that noone gets mad, if the Story isn't as complex as they/you have expected.
Like with Transformers: We all know, that it mainly goes for the Battles between Autobots and Decepticons, but yet there were complains about the simplicity about the plot of TF1. and did that really matter? - NOPE, TF got over 750Mllions worldwide through the Cinemas and the Second Movie will be produced.

Then we transition to Sci-Fi trailer #2 and use some Comic-Con '08 as filler. We dash in some powerpointed screenshots from pre-production, and conclude with the AICN sound-o-text over end credits."

    Regarding IRON MAN...

    by mr. nice gaius

...my only question is whether or not Favreau can take some incredible looking special effects and craft a story (film) that rises above the pedestrian tendencies that I've gleamed from his directoral work. This thing is totally on RDJ's shoulders. I have little doubt that his performance will make this film worthwhile. Oh, and he'll have Jeff Bridges for a backup darkhorse.

Iron Man is an awesome character, pretty good origin story, some nice demons to confront (alcholism etc.) and the look of the armor is so badass and they completely nailed that in the film, you have to give them credit for making the fucking suits and not just cgi'ing the shit out of everything, everything about this looks top notch

  • We would all prefer that they save the majority of the money shots for when we actually see the movie and I understand the concern but it the thing is that it won't matter if the movie works. If it's a great movie and more than just a collection of money shots then it won't matter what they show in the previews. If the movie sucks and it's nothing but money shots with jack shit to hold it together then nothing can save it and it'll be a punch line before the summer is over.

the two scenes (Mk.II test flight and F-22 scene) had some kind of cheap rock soundtrack that reminded me the hack job Zimmer did on Mission Impossible II.

And then I realized that it wasn't Zimmer's temp track, it was the real Djawadi score for the movie... Sounds like bad arena rock song, or 90's video game like Ace Combat or Twisted Metal, but certainly not like a film score. First lack of taste from Favreau.

I hope in the sequel he gets a "boy ward", Aluminum Boy, and they fight crime together. Ideally there will be way to many villains and nipples on the Iron Suits. Aluminum Boy used to work at the circus until his entire family was thrown into a tin can recycling machine during their highwire act and killed. His armour is pieces of his own family recycled.

Do you think anyone gives a fuck that Terrence Howard or Robert Downey Jr. or Jeff Bridges are in this film? Yup, Pixar has the rights

    by spencertrilby

Lassetter is a great fan of JCOM.

Well, to be fair Favreau was too, he said that it was his passion project and agreed to do Iron Man so he could prove to Paramount he had the chops to make a big budget John Carter movie (before these assholes at Paramount let the rights go to Pixar and shaft Favreau real hard).

I read some contradictory reports about Pixar's involvement, some say it will be their first PG-13 animated project, others say it will be their first *live action* project... Both suit me fine.

    Well said Series7

    by spencertrilby

The marketing is on the verge of overkill for Iron Man.

When will the studio understand that when it comes to promotion, less is sometimes MUCH more? Why do they always apply this rule to character development and action, and not on the fucking marketing campaign?

This movie will have a strong opening, no need to show any more stuff!

Well it may have been a passion project for Favreau. But I would put money on Pixar any day of the week. Live action is cool an all, but Pixar is cooler.

    What I don't get...

    by rakafraker

...is that I hear many ppl say that Iron Man isn't a very popular character, but in my part of the world they sell only a few different comics at the stores, and Iron Man is one of 'em. I figure if they're selling Iron Man in the boonies, it must have a bit of mass appeal. We don't get independant comics here (gotta order it online if ya want it), and many of the more popular ones aren't even on the racks (no Fantastic 4, among others, oddly enough. Maybe the movies made ppl stop buying the rags around here?).Personally, I hope the movie is a good thrill ride. I look forward to this and more installments to come. Vive la comic movie!!! (I hope I did that right. Just my luck, there'll likely be a proper Francophone to correct me.)

    My money's on Pixar too

    by spencertrilby

"Passion project" doesn't necessarily means it would turn out good.

It goes for both Favreau and Lassetter, but the latter has a nearly flawless track record while the former still needs to prove himself comes May 2nd.

it's more like "Vive les adaptations de comics!", but it depends if you live in Quebec, Guyane or France.

Also, where do you live to not see FF comics on the shelves? Since they're more kid-friendly I'd bet they were more frequent in countries where comics aren't that popular; albeit your theory about the shitty movies pulling the comics out of the stores seems credible^^

In fact play "the zeppelin" from the Rockeeter over that latest exclusive. It works quite well.

The more I see on my little computer screen, the more I want to see this on the big screen.

    BTW, Harry...

    by rakafraker

...I wanted you to know that ppl beat Type 2 all the time, just by getting in shape and eating more whole foods. I have a propensity for insulin deficit in my family, also. I put a step machine (that I got at a garage sale for $20, worth $400) in front of the TV and I would go through a 2 hour movie, easily, and barely notice that I was working out. I lost almost 30lbs in just over 3 months. One more thing: Learn to love water. I was a Dr. Pepper freak, but I learned how to drink water (I gulp it, like I'm dying of thirst.). Being a redhead, also (as am I), means that you are more likely to get dehydrated, so keep that aqua flowing! The average human needs about 64oz/day. You may need more being a redhead. Consult your doctor about the differences of being a redhead. If he doesn't know, consult a dermatologist. They seem to be more aware of the differences than a gereral practitioner, and are more likely to give you useful advice. Also, I have lost many very close family members, and I feel for you on your Gran's passing. It's always tough. Keep your chin up, sir!

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, no?
I don't know where Guyane is (I'll Google it right after this.), and I don't live in Quebec or France. That's all I will say about that. Yeah, we don't even get Dark Horse here. Lotsa Archies and even the American National Enquirer, but no F4, or special editions, or team-ups. Nuthin'! I just order online when I want something anyways. It usually ends up being cheaper!

but I am just tired of all the spoilage... I mean i feel like i am watching a vintage trailer where like they would explain the key plot points and show the best scenes of the movie in like 10 minute spots

The music has been my biggest concern since the first trailer as well. Cheap rock soundtracks can sink any movie regardless of quality.

Iron Man plot (to gotham_night) No spoilers...

    by spencertrilby

I read the novelization, and if I were you I wouldn't count that much on the plot, more on the characters and action stuff. The plot wasn't the main asset of the book and, unless they kept lots of stuff under wraps, it's not what will give the movie an edge either.

I think it will have an effect, but I doubt it will be easy to figure out how much. I can't imagine that, out of the millions of people who'll buy GTAIV on day one, some won't be either
1/ keeping their money after spending 60 bucks on the game
2/ play all the week end like geeks or
3/ don't care for the movie in the first place and will skip invitations from friends to see it

Either ways, if the movie underperforms analysts will blame the game, or my dog or your mom, but they'll never blame the fan-oriented campaign. Hell, I bet if Hulk 2 bombs they'll blame Ang Lee rather than the shitty marketing. Bottom line is, I think analysts have good reasons to point out the concurrence between movies and the video game industry (about damn time), but once the movie opens there is no way to prove it was right. Or wrong. My guess is that both will open strong, but GTA IV will make figures Marvel Studios could only dream of.

    by kevred

I didn't expect it to be funny, and the action looks better with every new clip. Could it be? The kind of thing we always ask for--a fun, satisfying, larger-than-life fantasy flick with a great cast that isn't all 20 years old? It's sure looking that way so far. This, Dark Knight and Hellboy all look ridiculously entertaining, all in different ways. That's a good cinematic year, right there.

    video games vs. movie

    by bouncy x

its not really fair to compare the two as far as how much money they make. movies only cost 7-10$ a person while a video game is 60$ and up. so right there, they already have an advantage. look at Halo 3, they made a huge deal about all the money it made within its first week and how it was better than movies. but imagine if everyone only paid 7-10$ and the total would be drastically different.
