RESCUE ME!! WIRE!! JERICHO!! BOONDOCKS!! SOAP!! DEXTER!! BIRDS OF PREY!! HercVault!!

Published at:  Apr 13, 2008 4:09:39 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

The BBC’s decision to mount the 2008 miniseries version of Sense & Sensibility was a very silly thing, as the miniseries comes only a dozen years after Ang Lee and Emma Thompson’s hugely entertaining Oscar-winning movie version starring Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman. The miniseries is only 45 minutes longer than the movie and inferior in all other ways. Not horrible (it is after all based on Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility”), but comparatively sluggish and clumsy and entirely unnecessary if you’re asking me.

Speaking of Britishers, Fortysomething: The Complete Series is a six-episode British sitcom from 2003 and the last TV show Hugh Laurie made before “House” made him a household name here in the states. Laurie stars as a piano-playing doctor. His partner is played by the Scottish guy who wanted to bone a mermaid in “Local Hero.” His wife is played by Anna Chancellor, who went on to regular roles on “Suburban Shootout” and “Spooks.”

Herc, did you say up top that Sense and Sensibility is based on Austen's Pride and Prejudice? Did you make a mistake, or am I missing something?

    by napoleon park

and just when I was convinced that this was the worst array of crap ever plugged on AICN - Pow! DEXTER. Even if it was better on Showtime, it's still currently the best thing or broadcast television. (at least until the 24th when Lost comes back)Oh, and I liked Futurama and my mom was Parry Mason fan. And it would be interesting to see that pre-House Hugh Laurie property I never heard of before. Pretty much everything else on this list is (humorous vulgarity goes here) though.

Birds of Prey was just ahead of it's time..

    by yeti

it's failure to find an large audience was also the reason the WB/CW didn't go ahead and pick up Mercy Reef (Aquaman). Thing is if it had aired a year or two later than it did it probably would have been a big hit.

    Wanted: Dead or Alive

    by bangoskank

I was named after Steve McQeen's character in W:DoA, Josh Randall... people always say, "Oh, how nice, you have a biblical name." Then I get to explain how I was really named after a pot-smoking TV cowboy.

Or I mention that the biblical Joshua was a war criminal who ordered the slaughter of women and children.

    Either way, good times

    MARTIAN CHRONICLES for $7.49

    by roguewriter

That's a bargain at twice the price. It's dated as hell, but still a wonderful piece of work for the most part. It's not quite as lyrical and timeless as Bradbury's peerless novel... but it still rocks. Recommended.

    by mattmanreturns

The Joker was blurred out and abstract... you could barely see him, so I'm not sure how you've determined it was the worst representation. I mean, he was voiced by Mark Hamill at least.

    by prof. pop-cult

This show gave us the first live-action representation of Harley Quinn in the form of Mia Sara. However, she was depicted as a crazed soccer mom type. Please, Chris Nolan, cast Kristen Bell as Harley for your third Batman movie.

I'm tired of the "it's trapped in licening hell" excuse. Get off your asses, cut the deal for the music and get the thing out on disc pronto. Oh, and Brett Michaels' vaginal rejuvenation surgery apparently went like gang-busters. S/he could be the poster-child for she-males the world over. That's how you do your sexual re-assignment surgeries - right out there in the open for all to see.

People actually pay to own a reality show? I can't even watch the shit on TV. But OK, some people like it, and cool for them... so can anyone explain the draw of rewatching? Didn't catch all the subtleties and dialogue the first time around?

To skimm, loved the second season of Dexter. It has moments when it's not as strong, but the last 4 or 5 eps were killer tense. I've heard the detractors too; I say make up your own mind. To me, it was the only show on this fall keeping my interest.

Final note: I miss the Wire. RIP, my good friend.

Sgt. Landsman at Arena Stage & Harry Potter on Broadway

    by kentucky colonel

Delaney Williams, who portrayed Jay Landsman (not the real Jay Landsman, who protrayed Bunny Colvin's aide-de-camp) is appearing at the Arena Stage in DC in a production of Arthur Miller's "A View From The Bridge". It got a smashing write up in the Post today. FYI. Also, Equus is coming to Broadway in September for 22 weeks with Daniel "Harry Potter" Radcliffe and Richard "Uncle Vernon" Griffiths reprising their roles from the London production. The wife & I caught that on the first night of our European adventure and were not disappointed!
