In Austin? Wanna meet Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith and see SON OF RAMBOW... for FREE? Click here!

Published at:  Apr 05, 2008 6:02:16 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. AICN is hosting a screening of SON OF RAMBOW here in Austin next Tuesday with Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith in attendance. The flick isn't just great, it's fuckin' great. No kidding. The comedy is funny, the drama is real and the nostalgia is thick. If you don't know, the flick is about a pair of kids, unlikely friends, who get together to make a video sequel to FIRST BLOOD. One kid is a little terror, a foul-mouthed hooligan and the other is the most innocent little kid, a child from a religious household who is not allowed to watch TV or movies... so when he sees FIRST BLOOD, the very first filmed anything to cross his eyes, it is like his own personal religious experience.

It's a fantastic movie, so of course Fantastic Fest, AICN and Paramount Vantage are putting on a fancy screening. And it's free! All you have to do is RSVP either via the Fantastic Fest Facebook Page or by email (click here to email!).

I will unfortunately be in New York during this screening (leaving tomorrow morning), but I have seen this film twice already and I'd be there to enjoy it again. It really is that good. Hope you guys enjoy the show.

Sounds interesting... sounds like that "Raiders" kiddie remake

    by prof. pop-cult

Are they still on track to turn that real-life story into a scripted drama (to be written by Daniel Clowes)? This may sound cynical, but I predict we'll be seeing a few more films like this, as Generation X keeps breeding and starts entering middle age.

I think you're on the right track, although I'd love to see more Alamo type theaters in Europe as well. There's no reason not to go international, if you're gonna franchise a great idea.

I saw Son of Rambow in Austin after BNAT btw and it is awesome. Will Poulter, the kid who exposes the other one to First Blood reminded me of River Phoenix in Stand By Me. he's really good for a kid.

Ah yes, we Brits are renowned for our fortified and imposing palaces! Alamo franchise is a sweet idea, though. Also 'Son of Rambow' is awesome.

Saw this at Sundance @ Brooklyn Academy of Music and...

... despite having a horribly frantic train ride to Brooklyn and my usual prickly demeanor, this movie put a huge shit-eating grin on my face- truly a disarming and sincere piece of work. So glad that this is FINALLY going to get seen.

  • We have a bona fide classic here. A real Back to the Future sort of level of classic, with the same overall level of appeal, wit, smarts and filmmaking chops on display. Of course, anybody who knew Hammer and Tongs previous work would just know they have a whole heap of films this good rattling around in their heads waiting to get out.

The film is on release in the UK right NOW so, if you're over here, I really can't recommend it enough.

He wants his quirkiness back. Even using the same music from Bottle Rocket.
