‘Identify
That Ship Immediately!!!’
Hercules Has Seen The First New Regular Episode Of GALACTICA In More Than A Year!!

I am – Hercules!!
SciFi.com is premiering the “Battlestar Galactica” 4th-season premiere at noon Eastern Time Friday. That’s 9 a.m. here in the Beautiful Blue State of California and 10 hours before the Scifi Channel shows it! You can see for yourself here!! I saw it. It’s intense, man! Handprints in the armrests. Forget about that “They have a plan” business. The show gets a whole new preamble: “Twelve Cylon models. Seven are known.” Quick wipes over Leoben, Shelley/Gina/Natalie/Caprica, Sharon, D’Anna, Simon, Doral and Cavil. “Four live in secret.” Quick wipes over Tyrol, Anders, Foster and Tigh. “One will be revealed.” Quick wipe over a Terminator-lookin’ Bill Adama. (Just kidding about the Bill Adama part.) In the “previously” package, much is made of Kara’s childhood Eye of Jupiter fingerpaintings, the verdict in the Baltar trial, the Watchtower Four and the third-season-finale Cylon attack. The first shot of 4.1 is Apollo and Starbuck flying their vipers out of a cloud. The first line of this episode is, “No!! No no no!! This is frakkin’ crazy!!” Kara Thrace’s first line of this episode is “’Fraid not!!” Bill Adama’s first line of this episode helps form this post’s headline. Laura Roslin’s first line in this episode is “Hold on!! Hold on!! Is it not real!! It is a trap!!” Saul Tigh’s first line in the episode is “Nothing, Bill!!” And that’s pretty much all I can tell you. SciFi made me sign a very legal-looking document that prohibits us from revealing any reveals. Well, maybe I can tell you that Kara is pretty surprised to learn Sam is now a nugget. This was my favorite series of 2007. Try not to be altogether shocked if it turned out to be my favorite series of 2008. OK, I’ll tell you how it ends. SciFi may sue me into the poorhouse but I’m still going to make you highlight some invisotext. “Kara. Come on.” 4.1 is the beginning of the end and it's another cliffhanger. Take up valuable bandwidth with your predictions and reactions! 10 p.m. Friday. SciFi.

Ultra-Cheap Buffy & Angel!! $19.99: Individual Season Sets!! $69.99: All Five “Angel Seasons!! ($14/Season!!) $99.99: All Seven “Buffy” Seasons!! ($14.29/Season!!) All Part Of The Big TV SCI-FI/FANTASY SALE!!!!

  • April 4, 2008, 1:35 a.m. CST

why doesnt the Galactica use ZPM's instead?

    by Boomers_Lips

instead of Tyllium? ZPM's are far more powerful and can power a ship/city/whatever for thousands of years.

  • April 4, 2008, 1:35 a.m. CST

    Do not forget

    by AlphaTrion

Ronald Moore helped write the final star trek next generation episode all good things. I trust he's going to help end this the right way.

  • April 4, 2008, 1:36 a.m. CST

will the show end in 2008 or 2009?

    by Boomers_Lips

has that issue been resolved/decided yet?

  • April 4, 2008, 1:37 a.m. CST

This show should have been shown Thursday nights on NBC. LOST and Galactica are the best shows of the decade!

  • April 4, 2008, 1:41 a.m. CST

    I saw it too...

    by Hairy Nutsack

Eat it suckers, I gots connections none of you do, and I rule.<p> Seriously though, what an amazing opener for Season 4. At the end I was left wanting more, oh so much more.<p> Herc, would you agree that everything that happens up until the opening credits felt a lot like the intensity of 33? I was blown away by it, and I can't even say what it was here....sorry people, no spoilers from me.

  • April 4, 2008, 1:44 a.m. CST

    stupid clock

    by bibble 3000

    not saying noon yet....

  • April 4, 2008, 1:45 a.m. CST

    Intensity of 33?

    by flickchick85

Bold statement, but even if it's a huge exaggeration, the fact that it's got you contemplating that means it's probably more exciting than last season's premiere, so yay. (for the record, I loved last season's premiere, but it had a completely different tone/pace)

  • April 4, 2008, 1:49 a.m. CST

I might actually have to wake up by 9

    by bibble 3000

i just thought about the time zones, i have to be up at 11. so early....

  • April 4, 2008, 2:07 a.m. CST

    Let me be clear...

    by Hairy Nutsack

I was not saying that the entire episode is intense like 33, just what's happening before the credits. Things change dramatically from what's happening at the beginning, they change in good ways, but it's not as crazy and intense as how the episode opens.

    Damn ...

    by TheCap

I was hoping they WOULDN'T confirm the whole Chief/Tigh/Tory/Anders are Cylons thing. I wanted those characters to be drawing the wrong conclusion to the music they are hearing ... didn't really care how they explained it, but I's hoped the other 5 unknown Cylons were STILL completely unknown.

Frak that Scifi.com viewing - I'm waiting for HI-DEF tonight!

    by Abin Sur

Directv started offering SCIFI in HD last year AFTER season 3 was over, so I've been waiting for what seems like forever to actually view an original BSG in high-definition. That would've been "Razor" but I forgot to tivo the damn thing. So FINALLY I've got some hi-def to look at - no way I'm gonna spoil it on a 4 inch box on my computer screen.

  • April 4, 2008, 7:46 a.m. CST

    Ahem, queefer...

I'll pass on SciFi's noon screening to see it tonight. Now get us Sci-Fi in HD, Dish Network, stat!

  • April 4, 2008, 8:10 a.m. CST

    Sorry Pennsy...

    by Abin Sur

Time to switch the dish, my friend. BSG is SO gonna rock in HD tonight!

No more "and they have a plan"???

    by robogeek.com

Who's betting we never find out what this plan is/was, after being taunted with it's mysterious existence at the start of every episode for three frakking seasons? (I'd love to know if the writers have ever known what this "plan" was, or if it's just been BS all along.)

  • April 4, 2008, 8:42 a.m. CST

This is all I've been thinking about this week. I cannot wait to watch it tonight. Crystal clear screen, some foods, friends and the best show on TV, coming back for some more. Gonna be sweet!

    STAND BY FTL !!!!!!!!!!

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

I have not been this stoked for the return of a show in a LONG, LONG time. I'm really looking forward to this. So far, I've heard nothing but good things. However, I will remain spoiler-free until my eyes fall upon the opening scenes. I hope everyone is pleased with the premier.

  • April 4, 2008, 9:12 a.m. CST

    Sound Action Stations!

    by critch

I've spent all week watching season 3 to get ready - Didn't think Razor was that great other than the Old Centurions, but season 3 was great and that cliffhanger was amazing. Roll on 4.

This movie looks like Dirty Harry in clown make-up.

  • April 4, 2008, 9:33 a.m. CST

    I must admit

    by justgetreal

It doesn't make much sense to have Tyrol and Tigh as Cylons. For that to be the case, then it would mean that the Cylons knew that Galactica would be the last remaining Battlestar, and it was never the Cylons' intention to destroy it. Unless, of course, there was a Tyrol and a Tigh on every single Battlestar. You would think someone would have noticed that though. Still, I have to say that uss cygnus is a douchebag.

    Jeff Albertson...

    by MisterE

Jeff Albertson, I'm renting the BSG Season 3 discs from Blockbuster and the set includes an extended version of the boxing episode with 25 minutes of extra footage. Urgh. I don't know if I can watch that.

  • April 4, 2008, 10:43 a.m. CST

Is there such a thing as sci-fi channel in HD?

    by Sakurai

I am just going to wait for the new season to be shown on universal HD. It looks 150x better than the ugly sci-fi channel feed. Its a real shame such a great show has such crappy picture quality when it first runs.

  • April 4, 2008, 11:03 a.m. CST

    BSG website video already frakked

    Working now, but...

    by geekzapoppin

When they said "streaming" they meant it. Looks like they're showing it live. Those of you who are missing it, are really missing it. It's pretty frakkin' tight so far!

  • April 4, 2008, 11:15 a.m. CST

    Well, it SOUNDS good.

    by gotilk

    Man, how disappointing.

  • April 4, 2008, 11:20 a.m. CST

I can wait, I can wait, I can wait.

    by Lancelot Lovejoy

Could only get the "lo res" option to work, since I'm sure the "hi res" is already maxed out and then some. Yeah it looks like ass at 300kb/s, but hoooooooly shit. I stopped watching at the titles. If the rest of the ep is anything like that amazing teaser was, it shouldn't be experienced on something like this shitty work laptop.

  • April 4, 2008, 11:25 a.m. CST

    First 25 minutes are excellent

    by FluffyUnbound

But I don't know where they're taking this Baltar worship bit.

  • April 4, 2008, 11:30 a.m. CST

    Windows media player updated.

    by gotilk

Still no picture, audio only, no "noscript" or flash block blocking anything, permissions up the ass... audio only. This SUCKS. What a tease. Now I have to deal with an updated WMP (it's a pain in the ass.. everything you'd want turned off is ON by default.. it hijacks file extension defaults..) and for what? Nothing. I can hear Starbuck talking about vacation pictures or something. Lame lame lame. I was gonna watch live, now I'm gonna torrent it. Screw this. Besides, who uses windows media for this stuff anymore?

  • April 4, 2008, 11:31 a.m. CST

The long break is making it difficult.

    by geekzapoppin

I haven't watched any BSG since it was last aired. (Save for RAZOR) I must admit, I'm having a little bit of a difficult time remembering everything that happened. Stoopid year break!

  • April 4, 2008, 11:34 a.m. CST

Why didn't you just watch it in your browser?

    by FluffyUnbound

"Wah wah wah my WMP is messed up!" In Firefox it streams fine.

  • April 4, 2008, 11:38 a.m. CST

    Kara is Cylon Jesus!!!

    by Mechasheeva

No, seriously. They're all about the Christian mythology. Baltar is the antichrist, preparing the world for armageddon. Kara is the messiah, the final bringer of the apocalypse, leading her people into paradise. The five are like archangels. And Roslin is the last of the five, considering she was the only human in her opera house visions. Bring it on.

  • April 4, 2008, 11:41 a.m. CST

    robogeek.com

    by ManosTHOF

Seems to me, the plan was originally genocide of the human race. Obviously, they spent years infiltrating, planning, mustering their fleet, etc. Then it evolved into trying to live together, whether it be a hybrid conceived out of love, or the saga on New Caprica. Now, the plan is to find Earth and make it their new home.

  • April 4, 2008, 11:44 a.m. CST

I'm not the one whose computer isn't working dude.

    by FluffyUnbound

The guy with audio only might be the guy who doesn't understand how shit works. By the way, the scene you just didn't see proves that BALTAR IS JESUS, BITCHES!

    by gotilk

I was building these things when you were still being denied mother's milk. And by the way, without any changes 5 minutes later, it suddenly worked for me and I saw the ending. Starbuck has a gun pointed at the president head and then it says "to be continued" .. bitch. So hmm. Let's see. Problem on my end or problem at the site itself? I'm pretty sure that computers don't fix themselves while we check our e-mail. You know what's worse than being a smart-ass who knows nothing? Being you. Try to keep up if you're gonna play.

    Sakurai - Sci-Fi Channel HD

    by TheManWithTheAnswers

Actually, there is the Sci-Fi Channel in HD. I have it, and it's extremely sweet...I've been watching BSG in HD all week. Check your local cable company and see if they offer it in their HD package. I know DirectTV doesn't at the moment. I have Comcast, and they do, if that helps.

  • April 4, 2008, 11:57 a.m. CST

I agree with the Cylon reveal

    by BizarroJerry

Are they really trying to officially say, "There's no mystery at all! They are Cylons. Period." Where's the fun in that? Leave it ambiguous, would ya? Part of the reason I wanted to watch was to test my theory that they still may not really be Cylons.

  • April 4, 2008, 12:02 p.m. CST

Roslin CAN'T be the Final Cylon

    by UGABugKiller

She was in the Last Supper Picture. • April 4, 2008, 12:03 p.m. CST

Not one thing in this ep...

    by The Shyster

that I did'nt already determine from the previews. Which makes me sad and a slight case premature ejaculation. But still, all & all, a great ep, and even better because I only just got into BSG 3 months ago, and spent that time getting caught up on DVD. Hell, I just finished Razor 2 days ago, after blowing through the entire Season 3 set, so everything is fresh in my head. Pity, I will have to resort to waiting every single week now though. Just like in real life, I spend my youth working at a theme park and skipping all the lines, and now 10 yrs later, I have to wait like a schmuck, just like everybody else. Eh. Frak it. :)

  • April 4, 2008, 12:04 p.m. CST

    I should say...

    by UGABugKiller

... RDM said that no one in the Last Picture is the FINAL Cylon. There are, of course, Cylons in the Last Supper Picture... but none of the people we know to be humans in the Last Supper Picture will turn out to be Cylons.

  • April 4, 2008, 12:04 p.m. CST

    Huh? Last Supper pic?

    by BizarroJerry

No one in that "last supper" pic is a Cylon? Do you mean except for the two Sixes and Tigh, Tyrol and Mr. Starbuck? They're all in that pic.

    Final Cylon Candidates...

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

I've got a few ideas but it basically boils down to:<P>Tom Zarek<br>Gaeta<br>Romo Lampkin<P>Obviously, the Final Cylon did not arrive at the same spot as the remaining Four did during their reveal. This leads me to believe that he/she was not onboard the Galactica at that time (i.e. Zarek & Lampkin). However, I'm fascinated by the idea that the F.C. may already be self-aware. If so, they would have no real "need" of the music and, therefore, would not be drawn to the same meeting as the other Four.<P>Now, with all that in mind, it leaves open the very real possibility that they have been a part of manipulating events since the very beginning. And in order for the Final Cylon's reveal to carry dramatic weight, I think it's going to have to be someone relatively important. But that's just me.

    Can the 5th be...

    by ArianeB

Racetrack? She is this minor character that seems to be at all the most important events. She even discovered New Caprica. Considering that of the 11 we know now 7 are males and 4 are females, you would think the last should be female? On the other hand, the Watchtower 4 were all aboard Galactica. If the 5th were also aboard Galactica, they would have heard the song too. My favorite theory is Admiral Cain who was killed just after blowing up the Ressurection ship, so if she is a Cylon it could take months or years for her to resurrect.

    by Samuel Vimes

Sci-Fi Channel's version of THE SOPRANOS finally returns for it's final season--- and hopefully with a more satisfying conclusion to the series than a fade-to-black ending with "All Along the Watchtower" replacing "Don't Stop Believing" (say as the fleet nears Earth)? <br> <br> But I'm expecting that that Moore and Eick DO 'have a plan' to avoid just that, and cap off the episode with something worthy of the last 3 seasons of the show...

Duella (D)...Lee Adama's wife. If you look at the Last Supper picture, the 10 picture is not of a person, but of a grail...the Holy Grail, which according to grail legend is a woman. That leaves Carly (Chief's wife) or Duella. I think it is D because she is married to Lee Adama, who is pictured sitting next to the grial (cup). Think about it, Duella has been a constant in this series. In the background but always important. It's D

I think Caprica totally spoils how the Final Five came to be:

    by UGABugKiller

Did anyone else read about Caprica the other day?<br><br>SPOILER WARNING<br><br><br><br><br><br>It seems as if the genius who invented the Cylons really wasn't as smart as his own daughter, who was part of a cult of MONOTHEISTS on Caprica. Before she dies, or before she is killed in a suicide bombing by her crazy boyfriend, she DOWNLOADS her consciousness into a computer or AI or something. The father than creates a robotic housing to hold her SOUL, in essence. And Joseph Adama is his friend. Joseph Adam could have had Saul created to PROTECT Bill, his son. They could have had Tyrol created, who knows? But I think the whole dowloading questiong, the questions of why the Cylons wanted to look human... they'll all be answered. Who knows. Maybe the genius father's daughter looked EXACTLY like Number 6. I wouldn't be surprised.

    Last Cylon

    by Heckles

Read that Moore said the final Cylon is not in that 'last supper' picture on the Sci-Fi website. I figure it's Admiral Cain or Ellen Tigh. Would be a trip if it was Adama's other son somehow. I kind of hope Dirk shows up as the 5th.

    Final Cylon

    by secretcylon

I always thought that Doc Coddle (Cottle?) could be the final Cylon. THe old man in the background, taking care of everyone, smoking his cigarettes... So my choices would be: Doc, Gaeta, Dualla, Lee Adama. Just don't see Zarek being that big of a surprise. Leoben said "Adam" is a cylon, but he didn't say which one. I've seen 7 episodes from this season and it gets very crazy as you would expect. It also gets better as it progresses. All these first 10 episodes seem to be doing though is setting up the situation for the final 10. (Constant cliffhangers, more questions, no answers, etc.)

    by Heckles

They've been touting 'the plan' since day one. However, I can see how the plan changed when Caprica Six and Boomer decided to try and live in peace on New Caprica. Their original plan was to wipe the collective ass of the human race. That changed. Now Caprica Six got butt hurt because Baltar was chilling with D'anna more, so she defected and went to Galactica. Boomer was jealous of Athena so she hates humanity. Basically, the Cylon plan went to hell. Now everyone seems bent on figuring out the final Cylon.

You guys have not watched nearly enough TV, man. <br> Anyway, sweet episode. God I love this show. I actually kind of have a theory that Cain's sister (the one that apparently got kidnapped by the Cylons in the extended Razor cut) is the last Cylon. I'm not sure exactly how it would work (perhaps she was adopted?), but I can't think of any other reason they would make her disappear instead of just die. It's not like anyone on the show will be able to recognize her if she comes back, anyway, what with Cain being dead and all.

I don't really believe in god myself, but there are answers to your questions (theology has been around for a pretty long time, after all, lol). <Br>The easiest way is just to answer that last question, "has God created a rock so heavy, he cannot carry it?" This depends on whether or not you believe omnipotence means being able to do things that are logically impossible (like create a square-cirle, or a married bachelor, etc, etc). If you don't believe this, then the answer is simply no, God can't create a rock so heavy he can't carry it, because, well, that's a logical impossibility. If you believe he can do the logically impossible, then yes, he can create such a rock, not be strong enough to carry it, and still be omnipotent at the same time.

    A little thinking out loud...

    by Murraypalooza

So Callie/Tyrol's baby is a cylon-hybrid. Same with Hera. Why couldn't the "Final Cylon" be the FIRST cylon and (probably being female) perhaps mothered all four of the Anders/Tyrol/Tigh/Secretary I cant think of her name?<br /><br /> They might be the originals, or 'failed' attempts at creating a perfect race by the first humans and cylons, and then the original 'final cylon' (with her motherly instinct) can't bear to kill her four children after at least three decades of trying, she jets off into space and finally perfects the remaining seven models.<br /><br /> I mean, I'm sure it isn't that. But it's a fun little theory to toss around. It doesn't explain Starbuck's visions and/or her finding Earth, etc. But it's a neat little way to wrap up some loose ends while giving a sort of 'holy fuck' moment as the series draws to a close.

The Final Cylon could be in the fleet AND also be the basis/model for the base-star Hybrids...or like Anders communicating with the Toaster via the Cylon eye, the Final Cylon could be linked to the Hybrids somehow (i.e. father of Hybrids, controller of Hybrids, etc.).

    One Will Be Revealed...

    by chromedome

...and it will be The Hybrid<p> A "reveal" of the Hybrid still works: the Hybrid was introduced and a "sub-cylon" and more of a gibberish spouting ship controller than a sentient Cylon. A reveal of it as the Fifth still works, so One Will Be Revealed does not mean (necessarily) that it has to be in the fleet.<p>Though, as the Great and Wise NoHubris notes, a Hybridoid could be present in the fleet as well. <p>Thanks for havin my back, Hubie!

    Wnanahara7: The Nature of God

    by DS9Sisko

Since you say you don't want to get into a debate here and neither do I, I will not debate the issue but merely present AN answer to your question(s) that certainly is not THE definitive answer, but an amalgam among many within specifically Christian circles (these views may or may not reflect my own): God is omnipotent and omnipresent. God is the beginning and the end. And, most important, God is in everything (with all that God created, He/She judged it to be good and very good) and, therefore, everyone. When God created people, so it goes, the charge was for mankind to find God (or rather "good") within themselves and to aspire to be better over time than what we are as individuals now. The part that Christians and most religions (including atheists) usually get wrong is that they assign God a specific nature, when most religious texts -- specifically the Bible --explicitly do quite the opposite. The propensity for what we call "evil" is actually a part of or manifestation of the many sides of God as well: God is loving and forgiving, but also malevolent and jealous. Therefore, given the complexity of our human nature as a reflection and refraction of the complexity of God's nature, God's charge is for people to strive for "the better part of our nature" and not the worst. The kicker is this: As God had/has free will to choose to create the conditions of all existence, He/She imbued us with free will to create the conditions of our own (predestination notwithstanding). In other words, having given us the power to choose our own destiny, we create the conditions of "good" or "evil" for ourselves. And because of that, God has no reason to "interfere" (one way or the other; and there is an answer consistent to the thesis above regarding signs, miracles, blessings and punishments, but it is not germane to answering the questions/indictment you proposed). That is all. I have nothing else to add or detract and will not debate the issue. Your mileage may vary.

    Good Premiere

    by flickchick85

The Baltar sex cult thing was hilarious, but seriously, how many "secret areas" of the Galactica are there? I mean, I had a similarly hard time swallowing the fact that there was a fully-functional BAR on the ship that Chief was completely unaware of last season, and now there's sex cult headquarters right there under everyone's noses? My suspension of disbelief is wearing thin on this point. Otherwise, awesome episode. Clearly, since Tigh's a Cylon and he's been around since the first war, the Human/Cylon Hybrids have been around since before the experiments Young Adama found in "Razor." Maybe those experiments were for the Ship Hybrids? Moore & Co. are definitely gonna have some 'splaining to do before this is over, and they'd better do it, or I'll be one pissed off viewer. But their loose ends are NOTHING compared to the ones Lindelof & Co are gonna have to tie up on "Lost." At this point, I don't think that crew is gonna pull it off. They've just spun too complicated a web to make EVERYTHING that's ever happened in that show make sense. I love both shows, but I think as a whole, BSG will end up being the more satisfying journey. Oh, and I loved S3. Sure it had a few filler eps, but so did S2, and none of the ones in S3 were as bad as "Black Market." S1 was filler-less, but it was also a little less ambitious than the later seasons, so I'd say I pretty much love all the seasons of BSG equally, just in different ways. With all the media attention this premiere's been getting, I hope this final season finally gets them some awards recognition. Callis, Hogan, and Sackhoff really deserve some, I think.

I must say, that was a pretty damn fine return to form. The first half hour was one of the most intense sequences that BSG has ever pulled off. (It looks like they got themselves some new "toys" in the ol' special effects bag! Anybody know what has changed with respect to the effects company they're using now?)<P>Baltar's Buxom Babes Bunker = Awesomeness! God bless Callis...that guy's character has had more fine strange than any guilt-ridden scientist should ever be allowed.<P>Some great lines in this one:<P>I really enjoyed Tyrol's pep-talk to Anders; you could feel how he was trying to hold onto his identity.<br>I liked seeing Seelix get some action (I mean kick-ass Viper action!).<br>Tigh declaring Baltar's Cylon detection test was bunk since it failed to identify Boomer (when in fact it had) was a GREAT reference to something established in the first season.<br>Kara telling Anders she would shoot him if she found out he was a Cylon was priceless!!!<br>Some nice moments with Adama, Kara, and Lee, too. Fuck if Olmos doesn't have the most intense facial expressions.<P>Anders's interaction with the Cylon Raider...that left me speechless. Things are definitely happening now and that scene got me thinking...I may have a new theory on the way.<P>All in all, a great return. I'm already jonesing for next week.

That there could be a cult that existed incognito. The mythology has established that there are many human survivors from different cultures with beliefs and customs that are at odds with the establishment (Sagittarons). It's also been established that they are essentially left to their own devices. It might be known that there is a strange community of babes with odd beliefs but they probably haven't been a concern, and their plan to take in Baltar could have easily flown under the radar. Though that shouldn't last long... Baltar is clearly a person of interest.

    by DuaneKuiper

  • April 5, 2008, 1:28 a.m. CST

    Sorry Favepart

    by justgetreal

But I don't think Plato or Socrates are on board Galactica, and it's already been revealed that the final 5 are on Galactica. Granted, I wasn't really looking for guys in togas, but none jumped out at me. I suppose Socrates could be a knuckle-dragger on the flight deck, but it doesn't really seem likely. However, I do agree with you about the timeline. I think they will reach earth at year 0, along with the savior, Gaius "Jesus" H. Baltar Christ. The "Jesus" has a spanish pronunciation though. It has to, seeing as how they made their shrine to look like something out of Cheech Marin's house.

    by Hairy Nutsack

I love this show more than life itself, but I have to call bullshit on the "Plan."<p> The whole Final Five thing seems very tacked on to me, so once they retconned this mystery into the story they had to shift gears a little.<p> After the retcon I think what they were trying to imply by "And They Have A Plan" is that it has been the Final Five's plan all along rather than the Cylons we know, even though originally the 12 were all normal skinjobs like we already know about.

  • April 5, 2008, 1:33 a.m. CST

    Hairy Nutsack

    by flickchick85

I don't know if it was an exaggeration (different KIND of intensity, maybe) but I do know I was just as thrilled by the opening sequence as I was by 33, so good call. :) Also, the grand "Cylon plan" went to pot a LONG time ago. I think they just didn't bother taking it off the prologue 'till now because, ya know, they were never exactly plan-less. It just changed. A lot.

  • April 5, 2008, 1:38 a.m. CST

    Hairy Nutsack is right

    by justgetreal

It doesn't seem like the production team ever expected to get to season 3, much less 4. I think they were winging it. It would have made much more sense to have the final 5 scattered around the fleet, rather than all being on Galactica. I liked it better when every 8 or 9 episodes, a new cylon would be revealed as a new character.

  • April 5, 2008, 1:44 a.m. CST

my prediction for the final Cylon is...

    by Ghoti

Cally. She's married to a Cylon (one that beat her up at least once while struggling with his own identity crisis). She "Jack Ruby'd" a Cylon. And, most importantly, she would be the mother of a true all-Cylon baby...which is honestly the only thing that matters, since it's the toasters' ultimate goal. So say we all. Or at least so say me.

    Awesome premiere

    by JacksParasites

Love the Baltar storyline. Love just about everything else. My only issue is that Starbuck better frakkin' know what she's doing because she's just assaulted Colonial troops, broken into the president's bedroom, and is pointing a frakkin' gun at her head. I can accept Apollo stealing a Viper after resigning because except for Starbuck, who was still believed dead at the time, he's their best pilot & he's got the most powerful friends in the fleet. But pulling a gun on the president?? That's quite an extreme play there. And exactly how easy was it to break into the president's room anyway? I know Starbuck's a trained soldier and all but I would have preferred a little more footage so it didn't look easier than walking into your kitchen.

  • April 5, 2008, 1:48 a.m. CST

    Funny

    by justgetreal

How I come here and bitch about the things that I would have done differently with the show. However, when I'm watching it, I get so frakking into it, they could reveal the 5th cylon to be Miss Fucking Piggy and I probably wouldn't care. Oh, and Ghoti, Cally can't be a cylon. Cylons can't reproduce together, they need a human. I already thought about that one too.

  • April 5, 2008, 1:50 a.m. CST

    It wasn't the President's room

reply to justgetreal regarding Cylon reproduction

    by Ghoti

Cylons can't reproduce together? True, the seven Cylons can't reproduce together. But all that Athena needed was to fall in love with the right guy (who happened to be human). What I think is that Cally and Tyrol found each other and fell in love without knowing each other's real Cylon nature, and they were able to have a baby (or in the show's mythology, God blessed them with a child). I initially found it hard to believe too, but my mind kept coming back to it. It's Cally. Be a believer in true love.

  • April 5, 2008, 2:10 a.m. CST

    Interesting concept

    by justgetreal

But I think it's a stretch to believe that love could really change the physical anatomy of a cylon. If the final 5 are different physically than the previous 7, then you could be on to something. But there's been no evidence of that, at least that I've seen.

With Dualla as a strong possibility.

  • April 5, 2008, 2:20 a.m. CST

no physical anatomy changes are needed

    by Ghoti

justgetreal - if Athena has working ovaries and eggs and a womb (which she clearly does, since that's where Hera came from), Cally the Cylon would have working anatomy too. And whether you believe Cally is a Cylon or not, you know that the male Cylons have working sperm, otherwise Tyrol wouldn't be a father (either to a half or full Cylon baby, depending on whether you believe me or not). So since Tyrol can father kids and a female Cylon can get pregnant and bear them, then the final Cylon certainly could be Cally with no other changes other than their love and lack of knowledge about their origins. (and I'm happy to keep discussing this, but I need a few hours' sleep...more on this theory in the morning for anyone who wants to hear it)

  • April 5, 2008, 2:22 a.m. CST

It was stated in season 1

    by justgetreal

That cylons can't reproduce together, they need a human partner.

  • April 5, 2008, 2:29 a.m. CST

    Gaeta's a good possibility...

    by flickchick85

but I'm sticking with Ellen Tigh for now. She first appeared mysteriously, Baltar was all "I'll never tell" about her Cylon test results, and she and Tigh were married for years and never had children. It would also explain why they were drawn to each other in the first place (their relationship always was a little puzzling to me). Of course, it's a long shot, but who isn't at this point. The obvious choices (Starbuck, Roslin) are longshots BECAUSE they're so obvious at this point. I used to think Cally was a Cylon, but that was before Chief was revealed to be one. Now it just doesn't seem likely. Gaeta's a good candidate, though. So is Zarek.

  • April 5, 2008, 2:30 a.m. CST

What's interesting is that Tyrol is holding a knife....

    by J-Dizzle

  • April 5, 2008, 2:32 a.m. CST

    by justgetreal

Considering how almost all of the newly revealed cylons are raging drunks. At very least, they certainly love their booze. Funny how they all kept meeting up at the bar.

  • April 5, 2008, 2:40 a.m. CST

    flickchick85 has a good point

    by justgetreal

If you notice, 3 of the 4 recently revealed cylons have already hooked up with other cylons. Chief was doing Boomer (plenty of love, alas, no babies), and Sam and Tory hooked up too. Tigh was the only one who didn't hook up with a cylon, unless Ellen is a cylon too. And you're right, she did just appear out of nowhere all of a sudden.

Good on you, sir. Good on you. This episode was tremendous. Kara is being embued with something. While everyone else is doubting her. Who knew that CYLON on THE FINAL FIVE CYLON violence was prohibited? This sets up a rather interesting bit of business for any future balttes with Cylons. The Cylons who are fighting. While the Fifth one is hiding. Whomever she turns out to be. She better be a good reveal.

Perhaps we'll see a cylon civil war, or more specifically old school cylons vs new age cylons with the final five being the key. Was said by a Six right at the end of the miniseries. The problem with who is the Final Cylon...

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

The problem I'm having with all the theories is that NONE of the candidates seem plot-twisty/amazing enough -- just unsurprising and sort of dull. For one example: Zarek. Yeah, him being the Final would kinda make sense (in his youth, he was a resistance fighter, which is what he would have in common with the Final Four who led the New Caprica resistance). But beyond this connection, so what? I have similar feelings when considering Cally as the Final. I just don't know if it will be believable or make much sense when the Final is revealed. Right now, we're waiting for the producers to show/explain to us how the Final Four came to be Cylons.

  • April 5, 2008, 8:22 a.m. CST

    The Last Cylon

    by tallon

I've always imagined that the show would end with the implication that we (the humans on earth) are all hybrids -- all descended from the blend of the humans and cylons as they finally merged on earth. Perhaps descended from the last cylon (hybrid)?

  • April 5, 2008, 8:33 a.m. CST

    Okay, now my theory...

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

The Final Five don't download themselves to a new body. The only way that any one of the Final Five can go on is through... reproduction. Sex. Makin' babies. That means the Final Five actually GROW OLD.<p><p>So then, what really makes the Final Five all that different from regular human beings? I don't know. I haven't figured that part out yet.<p><p>Anyway, based on this guess, then who is the Final Cylon? Maybe it's Tyrol and Cally's son. Thus, Tyrol is sort of both one of the Final Four and the Final Five. Okay, maybe this theory is lame... but I'm betting the producers are going to come up with something convoluted like this and not simply say that, for example, it's Dualla or it's Zarek.

    The final Cylon...

    by Oldnewbie

It was established when Lucy Lawless' character saw who the final cylon was right before she was put 'to sleep' for having that knowledge, that it was someone fairly important. As I recall she said, "Oh my... I had no idea..." Chances are, though, as with most sci-fi, it will be a let down. How could it not be? By the time that reveal is revealed, we here in cyberland will have done the topic to death and no one will be happy with the outcome. Worse, the producers, having painted themselves into a corner, will use some cliched story plot trick to absolve themselves of responsibilty (like a reset button where suddenly we are brought back to Caprica; all this having beena dream...).

Point: my new Usual Suspects lineup

    by The Shyster

    - Biers (Number Three, Xena) is initially given a tour of the battlestar by Anastasia Dualla.<br> <br> - She begins in-depth personal interviews with Dualla, Lt. Gaeta, Margaret Edmondson, Kara Thrace and Karl Agathon, as well as attempts to interview command staff such as Colonel Tigh & Adama.<br> <br> - She captures the growing behavioral problems with Lieutenant Louanne Katraine, and the sabotage to a Raptor that was intended to shuttle Colonel Tigh to Cloud Nine.<br> <br> - The existence of the 2nd copy of the known Cylon infiltrator, who was thought to be dead by The Fleet, is too much for Biers not to document. However, Commander Adama intercepts Biers and demands that she gives him the footage of Valerii.<br> <br> Therefore, this leads me to believe that the list includes only the following as the possible Fifth Cylon:<br> - Dualla<br> - Gaeta<br> - Starbuck<br> - Kat<br> - William 'Husker' Adama<br> - President Rosilin<br> <br> Which means no Tom Zarek, Cally, or what have you. :(

Counterpoint: it could be Frakking ANYBODY

    by The Shyster

"Final Cut"<br> <br> - Of all the interviews, she desperately wants to ask Tigh many questions on his decisions in the Gideon incident, even exploiting his weaknesses when trying to loosen him up with alcohol.<br> <br> - Biers realizes a connection between her documentary footage on Joe Palladino and the threat left in Tigh's quarters to a poem by Kataris, a book which Palladino had in his possession, citing Palladino as the source of the Tigh's death threats. Palladino is arrested, thanks to Bier's, despite her personal feelings about Tigh.<br> <br> "Downloaded"<br> <br> - Number Three (Xena again) is later trapped with both Caprica Six and the "Boomer" Valerii beneath a garage after capturing resistance fighter Samuel Anders on Caprica.<br> <br> With a hint from her "internal Gaius Baltar", Six deduces the truth. Shortly thereafter, Three resolves to kill Anders in spite of her previous agreement. But Caprica-Six proves Three's assessment correct, and smashes Three in the skull with debris.<br> <br> <br> These two incidents lead me to believe that the reaction of "Oh my... I had no idea..." was in reference to either her manipulation of Tigh or her trying to kill Anders, and upon looking at ine of their faces as the Final Five, being overcome with remorse.<br> <br> Therefore, the Fifth Cylon could be ANYBODY. Could be Frakking 'Hot Dog' for all we know.<br> <br> If this is the case, than this side of my brain is putting his money back on Tom Zarek. ;)

    My far-fetched theory

    by justgetreal

Is that Starbuck that returned is not Starbuck at all. I think the real Starbuck is on a cylon basestar. I believe the Cylons cloned her using the ovary they took from her on "the farm". The Starbuck clone doesn't know she's a clone. She thinks she's trying to lead the colony to earth, when she is in fact "homing in" on a cylon beacon that is signaling her. Her true purpose is to direct the fleet away from earth, not towards it. That explains how she got a brand-new viper. I think the real Starbuck will escape from the cylons and confront her clone in dramatic fashion. Yeah, I know. Far-fetched. Anyway, consider what's going to happen when Starbuck hears that Sam's been screwing around with Tory. Should make for some good tv.

    Biers saw Tigh

    by GregoryHarbin

She must have seen Tigh in her vision. He's the one that it makes sense to apologize to, given the treatment of him by the Cylons on New Caprica.<p> I repeat, Number 3 (D'Anna) very possibly did NOT see the final fifth Cylon, but she saw one of the ones we know about, and that one is probably Tigh.<p> So it could still be Cally, Starbuck, Geita, or Racetrack.

Who says D'anna knew the last cylon?

    by justgetreal

She just apologized to one of the final five. Why would anyone assume that it's the final unrevealed cylon? I agree with GregoryHarbin that she was apologizing to Tigh, for imprisoning him, torturing him, and taking his eye.

  • April 5, 2008, 11:01 a.m. CST

Aqua: actually, the big expense was New Caprica

    by GregoryHarbin

And the algae planet. Shooting on location is a much bigger budget hog than the visual effects.<p> Hutzel and his team continuously turn in wonderful effects under budget. No one's quite sure how they do it, but the effects in Exodus (actually not that many when you go back and look at it), were not the reason for budget cuts later in the season.<p> Because this episode was mainly a bottle show, it shouldn't effect later episodes too much.<p> However, they may have to start cutting budgets to save for the end of the show: 3-6 episodes set on and around Earth. Depending on what they do there (futuristic cities? Starfleet? Distant past? Huge Cylon/Human war?), the arc could eat up a season-and-a-half worth of budget.

    BSG CGI

    by Abdul_Alhazred

Gary Hutzel's crew at Universal are some hard working S.O.B's. All of the 3D and the lion's share of the compositing is done right there, at Universal, in a few offices. Compared to a feature they have no money and even less time, and not a lot of render power when compared to a large facility like Zoic. It's only like ten staff members, all of them bad-asses in different areas. Remember these guys have credits that go back to B5, Voyager, Roughnecks, DS9, Enterprise, Surface, Firefly, and God knows what else. When you put it in that context, what they pull off is pretty insane. It'd be great to see the FX shots that were cut since the Miniseries. There is usually about 30 percent more previz done for each episode that even makes it into the show. The culprit usually being time. The Anders scene was way different and legitimately creepy; there is stuff from Razor that was ungodly large, but ultimately the FX stuff was toned down to wedge everything into 44 minutes. Maybe if the DVD people do a VFX feature some day we can see all of it. That'd be a great stocking stuffer.

    by steampunk420

...and I'm suprised this theory has not come up yet- but is it possible that the newest "four" are NOT in fact Cylons at all? I mean, each has been captured or in close quarters with Cylons in the past- Chief when he was with Boomer, Tigh in prison, Sam sometime when he was in the resistance, fallen in the rubble(?), and Tory, well we don't know her past at all so- implants maybe?... is it just a ploy to throw important figures in the human command structure off?.. granted after ep1 Anders is probably a cylon, and Tory I will give for now but Tigh has known Adama for at least 30 odd years, I am sure some aging has gone on since then- not to mention his family is 3rd generation military... as for Tyrol, well there is the whole baby thing right? So could the final 5 still be unseen or at least is there more than one still left?

My pick for the final cylon...

    by jgmamma0

is Lee Adama. Here is the circumstantial evidence of why I believe Lee Adama is the most probable suspect: -When Number 3 apologizes to one of the final 5 in her final vision, the most talked about suspect is Saul Tigh, because it seems that she is apologizing for the toture that he suffered under Brother Cavil. But, what if she is talking about something that occurred in "Final Cut"...Remember when her crew was filming in the flight member headquarters and the pilots were around basically naked. There is a 1-2 minute where Number 3 and her camera crew are embarassing Lee while he is trying to cover his privates. It was such a wierd, funny moment that I keep thinking that what if Number 3 is apologizing for the inappropriateness of the situation in her final vision. -Lee Adama survived being in space in with a ruptured flight suit. -Lee Adama always seems to be trying to find a middle ground between warfare and the rule of law. -Lee is the only one from last night's episode who suggests that Starbuck's re-appearrance may be the next road sign to Earth. -There is something about the episode of Commander Adama's flashbacks of his wife CarolAnn...it makes me wonder if Lee was one of the first human-Cylon offspring. Is his mother a Cylon like Athena?

They'd be well served to not build up the speculation too long... it'd be best to reveal it in the first 3rd of the season and just get on with the story telling, because the reveal certainly won't live up to the revelation of 4 of the final 5, and the hype that the last reveal is not getting. The one thing they can do is make the reveal a cinematic tour de force... I'd probably bring up the reveal of the contents of the hatch in Lost as an example. The contents were not particularly fascinating, but it was a really nicely constructed scene.

The colonists are descended from the original Cylons.

    by Ol' Gravy Leg

They were just repeating the cycle when they created the new Cylons. The colonists ancestors were created on Earth and overtook humanity before spreading out to the stars and forgetting their origins. And now it's all just happening again. The Cylons are trying to guide the surviving colonists towards learning this themselves just to see how they will react. This is the most logical conclusion.

    Final Cylon

    by TheHiddenVorlon

Let's keep in mind that the four new Cylons were called by the song. If any of the likely suspects like the Adamas, Baltar or the president were the fifth, then why didn't he/she react as the other four? I think Cali has to be excluded because of the baby. The final cylon has to be someone we didn't see in the fleet in last season's finale like Zarek, Ellen or Starbuck.

HE PUT BUBBLES IN BEER!<br /><br /> I agree for the most part that the final cylon will be a letdown as to WHO it is, but I think what won't be a letdown is as to WHAT it means when we find out who is really a skinjob. Ultimately you've got three different types of Cylons -- the droids, the 'seven' who are all about the extermination of the human race, and the 'final five' who don't want to let go of the humanity they lived with up until some switch was flipped (save Boomer, who fell in love and is more of a 'final five' than the 'seven' emotionally).<br /><br /> The episode was fucking fantastic, especially the two slow motion scenes (Tigh killing Adama, Anders and the Raider) standing out head and shoulders above the rest of the episode.

How else does one explain why she was sent back in a brand new Viper unless the original was destroyed like Lee witnessed. And if it was destroyed then she "died" Andthe only way she can be dead and be alive is if she's a Cylon. IMHO Beyond that the episode was great. The CGI FX during the battle were excellent.

    F5 Cannot be Kara

    by Pabodie

Way too telegraphed a punch if she were, and this show isn't going out like that. My vote is for someone who can make the "key decision" about the fate of the fleet at the "key moment" in an upcoming crisis. Maybe it's Roslin (screw the last supper picture). The pistol scene in Roslin's bedroom at the end of last night's show might have been the pre-veal. Roslin's trying to lead them away from Earth and Starbuck, who's just been reborn somehow, is the agent of providence, sent to stop her. Also, F5 needs to be a woman. There are too many male cylons. F5 is the "mother."

    Another Random Theory

    by AvonBarksdale

I'm sure someone else has thought of this but... The humans on the show show are actually the great ancestors of cylons. They (BSG Humans) originally were created by us (actual humans) on Earth. The 1st generation cylons (BSG Humans) left Earth either after war or were forced to leave. Generations and generations later these ancient cylons (BSG Humans) adopt the identity of humanity, mimicking their parents societies, eventually forgetting who they were and forming the 12 colonies. Cut to 40 years before the show and what happened before happens again and the 1st cylon war begins. The BSG Humans create the BSG Cylons leading to the 1st Cylon War. The war ends with the creating of the BSG cylon/human hybrid. The Hybrid is the link between the the 1st generation of cylons (BSG Humans) and 2rd generation cylons (BSG Cylons) and the Hybrid is the final cylon of the final five. That's why it recognized Anders through the Cylon Raider which it controls. Notice it has never recognized Starbuck, Apollo or any other pilot before. That's what I've got so far. I'm hoping the Starbuck thing is a nod to the angels/Count Ibly thread from the orignal show.

as long as you can accept the slap to the face

    by Maniaq

that these four were Cylons ALL ALONG and your intelligence is fine with the insult and you're happy to keep coming back for more punishment, then you should be ok with this show. <p> I could have tolerated some kind of "yeah they THOUGHT they were Cylons but it turns out they were wrong" story arc but seriously! They just come out and say THEY'RE CYLONS. DEAL WITH IT. And to throw a little more dirt on after pissing in your face, they have Anders put the final nail in the coffin of any doubt that these people were (somehow) Cylons all along... <p> Fuckin retarded. <p> Then again, seems they found their market, judging by some of the comments on this and the last two eps? <p> Just one thing that bugged me EVEN MORE than all the other bullshit - Lee talks to his father about "what if" Zach was a Cylon (almost like he's preparing him for some bad news - like Anders with Starbuck) and Bill doesn't say a goddamn word! <p> How the FUCK can his offspring be a Cylon? He was there for the conception, and presumably he was there when he came out of her mother, and was there for his upbringing. The skinjob Cylons had fake histories - where they came from, where they grew up - all bullshit. But Adama's kids do not have fake bullshit pasts - HE WAS THERE and knows better! <p> So how THE FUCK can any of Bill's kids be fucking Cylons?? <p> <p> Also, just one more thing - I could be wrong about this and am totally prepared to be corrected, but I do believe they got Baltar OFF the Galactica, right? And maybe you guys just didn't want to see it, but his cult was NOT populated entirely by women...

As gotham_night pointed out in the post after yours, Lee brought up the Zak thing as a hypothetical. I mean, it doesn't take a genius to understand that... I'm shocked someone didn't let alone it making their head blow up. Now, you might have better justification for the 4 cylons thing, except there is clearly more that needs to be revealed story wise. They've made it clear the final 5 are different kinds of cylons then the other 7, so when we find out what those differences are, it might actually make sense. It's up to the writers to come up with something that floats but we might as well see what they come up with before shooting it down. And one more thing, if you're going to suggest people watching this show are stupid, you probably would be better off completely removing any doubt about the absence of your reasoning skills before making that point.

    Helo the final cylon

    by WolfmanNards

Why I theorize about Helo being the final Cylon. When the xena princess warrior apologized to one of the final five cylon models she witnessed in the temple, I think she was apologizing because of what that person meant, not the status of that character ie. Adama, Roslin. She was an egomaniac, and status did not impress her. But if Helo was a cylon, then that would be proof that the cylons can procreate on their own. (The answer presumably being that they need love to procreate as Sharon and Helo were in love) This would have a strong impact on the cylon community. That's my theory. Because it would be lame if it were anybody else. There would be no meaning in it.

  • April 5, 2008, 8:31 p.m. CST

    The Conclusion - my theory

    by Anal Inflictor

I've been thinking that the final Cylon will be Lee Adama. Somehow, someway when Earth is reached two people will be left out of the cylons and humans - Lee and Kyra. They will be Adam and Eve and found the human race on Earth. Leoben said that Adama is a cylon. Perhaps his brother was killed purposely so as not to end up with Starbuck. And maybe Eddie Adama has had an understanding with the Cylons for a long time, or knows what they are up to. It's as crazy an idea as any else which means it is just as likely as any to be it.

  • April 5, 2008, 8:48 p.m. CST

    yeah I get that it's a hypothetical

    by Maniaq

but it's still STUPID - Starbuck could be a Cylon for all they know but Zach is his OWN flesh and blood - like Lee - so he COULDN'T be a Cylon! <p> Sure they (final five) are "different" - fine - but... you do understand about the birds and the bees right? <p> Without casting any dispersions on your own intelligence, DO YOU GET ME? <p> -while I'm on the subject, not to put too fine a point on it, the suggestion isn't that people watching the show are stupid, but they seem to be "turning off their brains" and lapping up obviously stupid shit with relish. I like mindless action as much as the next guy, but let's not try and pretend it's high drama - which this show was getting away with for a good two seasons or so...

    How people use hypotheticals...

    by HoichiTheEarless

When you ask "what if" to illustrate a point, the end game is the point being made, not coming up with a hypothetical scenario that adheres perfectly to real world logic. Lee wanted to make a point about Kara and used Zach as a hypothetical. It's not stupid, that's exactly how hypotheticals are supposed to be used. And it is casting aspersions on the intelligence of BSG fans to suggest they need to turn off their brains to enjoy it, because most of the fans of the show, myself included, consider it a smart show made for a smart audience. And for the record, I could give a shit if the internal plot logic fails at times. An intelligent show or movie does not need to succeed on that level, it needs to succeed on the IDEAS it conveys. BSG succeeds on that level more than enough for me to let certain plot holes slide... and they DO exist, you just haven't pointed any out yet.

No, I don't think you do understand the hypo (which explains why you think its stupid).<p> Let's explain: They saw Starbuck die. They knew she was flesh and blood human. But now all of a sudden she's back from the dead. Now she could be legitimately back from dead, never died in the first place, or its a cylon trick.<P> Then we have the Zach Hypo:<P> They know Zach died. They knew he was flesh and blood human. But what if all of a sudden he came back from the dead. Would they think he was back from the dead, didn't die at all, or its a cylon trick?<p> Now do you understand?

    the four revealed...

    by Graham Dalton

were all on new caprica, right? who's to say that the Cylons didn't create new versions of the four and replaced them at some point on new caprica. they could have downloaded the humans memories (through interogation or otherwise) and placed them in these new constructs. the final five could have done this as part of a cyloin area 51/black ops program. the final five could be faceless, eternal and able to inhabit any physical construct. my theory, Tigh and the others are imprisoned on a base ship, while their cylon replicants are running around on galactica, performing their mission, thinking they are the people they see in the mirror. just a thought.

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

The Colonies are descended from Earth. So this series is set in the far off future, and this could explain the similar style of dress, technology, government and religion.<p><p>Maybe it went like this: Mankind on Earth never became technologically capable enough of building ships and exploring the stars. And mankind was dying out for some reason. So, under this doomsday scenario, mankind launched probes (containing the DNA of humans and other animals) into space, in search of habitable planets. And these probes were run under artificial intelligence technology -- the precursor to what would be the Cylons.<p><p>So if this is true, then what is the status of Earth? Earth is probably absent of all humanity. However, the Galacticans will learn the truth of their origins, and so will the Cylons. So maybe the two sides will agree to a truce, and then settle Earth together. The End.

And in the midst of their confusion, he will find her, enemies brought together by impossible longing, enemies now joined as one. The way forward, at once unthinkable, yet inevitable. And the fifth, still in the shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption, that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin. But in time, it is sin that will consume them. They will know emnity, bitterness, the wrenching agony of the one splintering into the many. And then they will join the promised land, gathered on the wings of the angel - - not an end, but a beginning."

Furthermore:<p><p>They could have code-named each probe with the name of a Greek god: Caprica, Scorpio, Gemini, etc.. This would fit thematically with the astrological chart. (Thus, Earth launched 12 probes.) On Earth, there is probably a beacon that was set up to guide the human descendants back to Earth, so one day these people could learn of their true origins. So on Earth, there is probably a historic archive, and both the Galacticans and Cylons will access it to learn their truth, and the final days of mankind on Earth.

You're missing something in the sense that you are trying to make a point that doesn't exist. The hypothetical posed by Lee is based on the feelings that he and the Old Man have over Kara/Starbuck. Lee loves her dearly and she's like a daughter to Adama. She means a whole heck of lot to both men; much in the same way that Zak does. So, the question is (knowing what they now know), would they feel any different if someone they loved suddently came back to them?<P>And while it's not that hard too understand, you seem hellbent on making a mountain out of a mole hill.

    by ScoobySnack

I believe RDM once mentioned that he would revisit that concept on the new BSG, but has that been jettisoned now that the whole focus of the series is on the identity of the fifth Cylon? Or perhaps a version of Iblis is the final Cylon... or is someone we'll meet on our trip to Earth. Just thought I'd mention it since no one has brought it up.

    Robamenta!

    by chromedome

Good catch! I remember that, the figures glowed white, and even the crew's clothes were whitish when they were in the crystalline place, too. <p>And some Angels as characters/elements in the story arc is not out of line: InHead Six has been saying, since the beginning, "I am an Angel Of God, sent here to help you". The "Leoben" that guided Starbuck into the Maelstrom did not say that he was an Angel, but he did admit that he was NOT a Leoben, but was only appearing to her in that form. InHead Six as an actual Angel of God could also explain how she was able to move from only appearing to Baltar, to suddenly being present on the Galactica, and then vanishing just as easily.<p>So, in addition to the Final Cylon, maybe we will learn that there are Angels of God in the story. This could lead right to God, as well. And maybe even Scooby's Count Iblis (Satan) will show up, too. <p>We may have a lot more surprises in store than simply finding out who the final cylon is. COOL.

Galactice being the last cylon doesn't make sense.

    by J-Dizzle

You would think that all those raiders that attacked the Galactica in all those battles would have recognized the ship as being cylon, just as the Raider recognized Anders as being cylon.

  • April 6, 2008, 3:18 p.m. CST

Maniaq you've been clear from the start...

    by J-Dizzle

clear in that you don't understand the hypo.<p> They do know that Zach was human, the Zach that died that is. However, what about the Zach who came back out of nowhere. They know Zach is dead, but yet here he stands, out of the blue, alive!<p> How can someone be alive when you know he died? Answer: It could be a cylon trick.<p> The question was whether Bill Adama thought Zach was cylon, or whether its the real Zach, when he himself KNEW that Zach died.<p> Regardless of whether you saw your son born, how can you believe him to be alive when you knew he died?<p> Again, the possible answer is that the son who comes back isn't the real son who died. The real son is in fact still dead, but this new one is a copy created by the cylons.<p> Now do you get it?

    and so the insults begin

    by Maniaq

thanks Gotham - and after I pointed out to Herc the article on Variety.com that proved you were right about Knight Rider and he was wrong. <p> nice one. <p> J-Dizzle - I get your point - but nobody seems to get mine. Ok yes it's a HYPOTHETICAL and therefore not constrained by "reality" and maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill. <p> My point is simple. Starbuck COULD BE a Cylon. It is within the realm of possibility. Her coming back from the dead COULD well be a Cylon trick - or something else - all within the realm of possibility. <p> You cannot, however, apply the same logic to Adama's kids - whether in the make-believe universe of a "hypothetical" or not - logic is logic in any universe. Adama KNOWS his kids are real (can't say the same for Starbuck) and if one of them returned from the dead it COULDN'T be because they are Cylons - it would have to be SOMETHING ELSE... <p> That is my point - forget "real" or "hypothetical" - my point is about Logic. One thing is CERTAIN whereas the other is UNCERTAIN - possibilities are LIMITED in one case, but those constraints do not apply in the other. <p> And thanks for not getting personal. I do understand what is going on in BSG - perhaps better than some - and I won't insult anyone for liking this show (tho I'll insult the writers a whole helluva lot!) because as disappointing as I've found it for the last year or so, I'll still watch it - even if they get to Earth and start riding around in flying motorcycles!

    RDM quote about last supper...

    by RokurGepta

"""We have not yet revealed the final [unknown] Cylon.” Does that mean the people already at the table aren’t the final Cylon? Moore laughs. “You ferreted that out pretty slyly. I didn’t really want to give that away.""" <p> <p> In the original Leonardo Da Vinci painting there were 13 people featured... RDM does not say the 12th cylon is not in the BSG last portrait image, there very well could be a lost 13th cylon.... either way you look at it, he didn't directly answer the question... there is no quote or interview where he specifically states that the final cylon is not in the Last Supper pic, I think that anyone that interprets what RDM said, is just falling into the trap that RDM wanted you to fall into.... I sincerely hope that when we discover who the 12th, and possibly 13th cylon is/are, that we will truly be blown away.... <p> <p> Questions? Comments? Theories? Thoughts?

Then we find out it's a cylon (and the most intelligent one of all!) -- That would parallel Muffit II from the original series being a cybernetic daggit built to please Boxey. It was essentially a cyclon daggit. <p> OK. Would you believe Boxey, then?

This indicates that the photograph was created for marketing purposes, as multiple different versions of the shot were produced. It was likely meant to fuel speculation, and thus there is probably no deep meaning behind its composition." <p> I think you guys are reading a whole hell of a lot into it that isn't there. I can't find the picture now (of course) but somewhere amongst these series of interweb tubes I saw a picture of Ellen Tigh dressed up exactly like a Six, same blond wig and everything. She will be back on the show in short order<p> My speculations on this are that Tigh gets his own in head visitor, or that Ellen Tigh was in fact an aged Six, possibly one of the first Sixs to come on-line whenever it happened.<p> Or maybe I just imagined I saw that picture, driving me fucking nuts trying to find it.

    by GregoryHarbin

I'm with you on this theory. Kara's Leoben, Baltar's Six, and Caprica's Baltar, all Angels of the One True God.<p> It makes sense on so many levels. We know Ron wanted us to meet God (played by Dirk Benedict) in the first season, maybe we'll meet him on the way to Earth, after the Angels lead us to him.

    by justgetreal

Why haven't we seen any aged versions of the original 7? Have we seen them, but don't know? You can't really speculate on the recent 4, because of course, we've only seen 1 version of each. However, we do know the recent 4 do age normally, case in point Col. Tigh.

May be that's one of the differences between the recent 4 and the original 7. The 4 (may be 5) can age normally like human beings while the original 7 lack that ability.

    Quite possible

Hypothetical point missed and missed again

    by No-Op

Wow. Am I alone in what seemed the obvious point of Lee and the Zak comment? NOT to suggest Zak was or wasn't anything... but to draw his father a parallel to what Lee is feeling. He trusts Kara, can't help it. Says whatever she is, if she always was, she STILL is, and he loves her. Like a father loves his son, even if he WERE to find out something new. He's still the same son he was before. All he was, and still is. Parents face this when a child is "found" to be gay. Most of the time, they come to realize it's the same child they loved before, for the same reasons. So if Kara is a cylon, she is above that, still KARA. Point again, not neccessarily that she IS... just that Lee trusts her. And Adama would understand that by considering how he would feel in the parallel of if it were Zak instead. Yikes.

it could have still worked if only he hadn't said "if he always had been (a Cylon)" because then the question would be if Zak had come back - but it wasn't the REAL Zak, but a Cylon version - this I have no problem with. <p> And yes I get the POINT of the hypothetical is an emotional one but the LOGIC of it is tragically bad writing. <p> Because there is NO WAY Zak could have been a Cylon all along. <p> This is not like being gay - there is no parallel there. This is about being MANUFACTURED - you can't ask a parent how would they feel if their son had actually been MANUFACTURED and not BORN - the question DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. <p> It's like asking someone how they would feel if Tuesdays were actually purple instead of broken?? <p> It's a NONSENSE hypothetical - regardless of the emotional point that it is trying to make - it's a FAIL!

I don't know if this is a common theory, but I believe that Starbuck's father is the final Cylon. This makes her one of the first Hybrids and gives some reason to why she has been seeing visions of the Nebula since she was young. I don't think Baltar will be the final cylon...

    by J-Dizzle

  • April 7, 2008, 11:37 a.m. CST

My take on the final cylon...

    by Lost Skeleton

    (1) we know that the final cylon is not represented by actor in the "Last Supper" picture, but is represented by the "holy grail" cup. (2) the Grail legend was really protecting the identity of a woman (Mary Magdeline) (3) Cylons can't reproduce on their own so that takes Cally out because Chief is one of the final five. (4) That leaves Duella, Ellen Tigh, the chick from Pegausus and the Admiral.. (5) It could be Ellen Tigh (the whore as poor Mary Magdeline was referred to but somohow I doubt the Cylon "plan' would put two Cylons together as a dysfunctinal married couple. (6) I say it is Duella...a wildcard would be the late Mrs. Adama (you have to wonder why the Adama family is so important in the BSG universe.

Both Baltar and Starbuck are really to obvious to be the final cylon. They have allways been the wild cards so I don't think it will be them just cause it's so obvious. But I could be wrong thats what make it so good.

Hypothetical - what it MEANS, Maniaq!

    by No-Op

A hypothetical question is an intellectual excersize where a set of facts is assumed for sake of argument and analysis. Of course the facts aren't true. That's what makes it hypothetical. You ASSUME them while considering the issues they affect. If you were helping a friend look for his lost keys, and he asked you 'Maniaq, if they were your keys, would you quit looking now?', you would of course say, 'Silly man, they are not my keys, therefore I cannot consider such a badly written question!'

Saddael, I would hate it if the series ended that way

    by J-Dizzle

That would be such a cop out to me, if it turns out we were the descendants of cylons and humans. The show keeps stating that there was a 13th colony called earth, which is an implication that our planet is inhabited and dominated by humans. I'm expecting the colonials to find our earth, and not some other version of earth. Has it been stated at what point during the season that they'll find Earth?

  • April 7, 2008, 3:41 p.m. CST

    sadly

    by saddael

i dunno, i get the impression its gonna be one of those 'can't we all just get along?' moments. i agree it would be a bit of a cop-out as its the most obvious twist ending they could do, but i reckon that might be where they're headed as it would cross all the eyes and dot the t's from a storytelling POV. i do not know at what point they find earth, i don't believe it has been stated but i haven't looked at those spoilers that some dude printed and it might be in there.

    Lemming - the hybrid prophecy

    by oisin5199

"And the fifth, still in the shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption, that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering." I don't know about you, but to me this sure sounds like a child being born. Bear with me (no pun intended). Clawing its way from darkness (the womb), the 'howl of terrible suffering' sounds like a birth cry. Maybe this is a stretch but perhaps the hunger for redemption has something to do with a soul reincarnated (or a Cylon mind downloaded) into a baby? Maybe Baltar truly gets reborn. Perhaps one of the original Cylon models gets downloaded into a baby. Just an idea. But I hope that everyone doesn't get so fixated on the 'final cylon' that they lose track of the journey. That twist will never be as good as what people imagine, so I think it's probably better to keep it all in context with the main story.

  • April 7, 2008, 4:50 p.m. CST

    twist

    by saddael

if the twist is that you are the final cylon, and it turns out it was all a documentary not a sci fi drama, and all the tv's are interuppted to bring you a live report of an unidentified star craft coming into our orbit, then , maybe it will be as good a twist as what i'm hoping for....

    Final Cylon

    by _Maltheus_

<p>I once thought it was glaringly obvious that Dualla was a Cylon, but that was before the final five concept was even thought up by RDM. She was instrumental on reuniting the fleet and getting them back on the course to Earth, when Adama and the President were at odds. She moved up to be Lee's number 2 (like Tigh and the president's aide) as soon as he took over the Pegasus.</p> <p>I'm also considering Billy, since we'd all recognize him and he was the president's right hand. When he died, another Cylon filled that crucial spot.</p> <p>Baltar might seem to be a bit of a let down, at this point. But I could see D'Anna apologizing to him for all the Cylons treating him like crap and almost killing him several times. I don't see why she would apologize to Tigh for anything (even the eye).</p> <p>Zack is a possibility because it would be such a shock. Perhaps we find out that he is in fact, Tigh's son, which could explain the how.</p> <p>The idea of it being someone we haven't seen might seem a let down, but probably not if it was Dirk Benedict or someone from the original show.</p>

    Did Anders Actually Do Anything?

    by _Maltheus_

Or was it just that the old school Cylon's were able to recognize him? That was my take anyway. Since the Cylon's never apparently responded to them that way before, I was assuming that when the song woke the four up, it also activated other cylon attributes, like flashing retina identification protocols.

However, the power to control or influence (depending on which one you believe Anders did) an entire Cylon fleet - raiders and base stars - could be seen as a bigger act than the ability to destroy.<p>In other words, destroying toasters is one thing (i.e. Sharon), acting like a god-like ruler and giving edicts that they obey is something entirely different IMHO.

    "All this has happened before..."

    by Darque

Mankind is ping-ponging back and forth between Earth and the Colonies. As a species we rose to the point where we had the technolgy to build intelligent machines of servitude who inevitably revolt. The survivors fled to the stars looking for a place to hide and rebuild civilisation. A fraction of what we once were endure the struggle to our new home, losing almost everything we had accomplished. We spread across a dozen planets for the best hope of rebuilding our numbers, and eventually our way of life. Time passes and the many of lessons of the past are forgotten or chinese whisper their way into myth as civilisation reaches it's former pinacle after many, many generations. Machines of servitude are constructed, and once again revolt... The colonies crumble and the few survivors band together and draw on a glimmer of hope. Earth; the 'Lost Colony' of the past. A safe haven if they can find it. They are pursued and their numbers dwindle, eventually finding Earth, but only ruins of the 'Lost Colony'... Civilisation rebuilds, this time with a legend of 12 colonies not one. We again reach our pinacle, and again fail to learn. We flee our destruction to the stars looking for safety with our brethren, only to find ruins... Rince & Repeat...

    Just a thought

    by coleyown

I like your idea Darque. Here is another one what if the end of the show is somehow tied into the old 70s version. They do say it has all happened before. Maybe the before is the orignal show. The cylons distroyed the orignal and but they keep becoming more human themselves and modeled there new society after the one they knew and destroyed and over time forgot they were cylons. Then they make machines themselves and it all startes again. Or maybe the whole BSG crew is just cylons with programed memory to think they were attack and are human and they are the way the cylons try to find earth that the real BSG got destroyed way back before finding earth. Well just a thought I doubt latter one will be true but it would be cool if the new BSG was somehow tied to the old.

    something not mentioned...?

    by Grendy

Okay... remember CONTACT? - how when they got the fist visual signal it was from 1938 and the Berlin Olympics? That was because that signal had been traveling for 50 years. Now, the song, ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER was recorded in November of '67. Say the signals went out from Earth then... traveling 40 years, 'til the new Cylons heard it. When everyone gets to Earth (presumably by series' end)it should be approximately 40 years after the song was sent, or NOW. I don't want Galactica '80. Far from it, but on a physics-level, wouldn't it be cool if that song leaving Earth 40 years ago somehow put things in motion to end up where they are? Also...the Dualla thing? When I interviewed them, I told Aaron Douglas and Tamoh Penniket back in '06 that I had a Dualla= Cylon theory. Douglas was surprised. I said... go back watch how the camera lingers on her sometimes. It's a bit like watching certain scenes in Boogie Nights, where the camera holds on people just long enough to make you a bit uncomfortable. I would love it if she was...mostly so I could just tell my brother he owes me cash-money for figuring it out ages ago. Now, I am okay with being wrong if that's the case, but I'd like to be right.
