What Makes The Cylons Tick?? CAPRICA, The BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Prequel Pilot Movie, Kind Of Explains!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
Hollywood’s casting community is trying to find a guy to play Lee Adama’s lawyering grandpappy for “Caprica,” the pilot/TV-movie set half a century before Boomer discovered she was a Cylon.
Why are the Cylons so hot for a single god? A glimpse at the characters inhabiting “Caprica” may provide clues:
* DANIEL GRAYSTONE is literally the father of the Cylons, a fortysomething “spectacularly wealthy” computer designer.
* ZOE GRAYSTONE, Daniel’s hot 16-year-old daughter, dies in a suicide bombing. Daniel learns that Zoe – like iconic “Twin Peaks” dead teenager Laura Palmer – had many secrets. For one thing she was a closeted monotheist! For another, she was even more of a technological genius than daddy Daniel, and succeeded in secretly uploading her personality and DNA into a holographic avatar. Daniel comes to combine the Zoe avatar with stolen technology to create the first Cylon, “a robotic version of his dead daughter.” Oo!
* JOSEPH ADAMS, Bill Adama’s pop and Romo Lampkin’s future mentor, is a fortysomething Tauron native who long ago emigrated to Caprica and overcame anti-Tauron prejudice to become an influential defense attorney on the capital planet. Joseph’s wife and daughter (Bill’s mother and sister) die in the same blast that killed Zoe Graystone. Joseph Adams and Daniel Graystone, despite their very different backgrounds, are bonded by the tragedy. Adams, who still has “powerful ties to the Tauron crime underworld” helps Greystone create the first Cylon by stealing cutting-edge robotic technology from a Tauron computer developer.
* TAMARA ADAMS, Joseph’s dead daughter, may also be resurrected as a robot, but Joseph – much like the dad in Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary” – comes to regret his role in the Cylonic creations.
* AMANDA GRAYSTONE, Daniel’s thirtysomething wife, is a successful surgeon devastated by the loss of her beloved daughter Zoe.
* TOMAS VERGIS is Amanda Graystone’s Tauron ex-lover and one of her husband’s chief competitors. Following Zoe’s death, Amanda covertly returns to Vergis’ bed to learn more of the tech that might be used to resurrect her daughter.
* SISTER CLARICE WILLOW is another closeted monotheist and the headmistress of the Athena Academy, the polytheistic religious school Zoe attended. A product of colonial slums, the sister is presumably responsible for converting young Zoe into a monotheist.
* BEN STARK is Zoe’s unbalanced monotheist-fanatic boyfriend, the suicide bomber who kills, among many others, Zoe, Tamara, Bill Adama’s mom and himself in a horrific train bombing. He too secretly uploaded himself into a holographic avatar. But his can only be contacted by headmistress Willow.
* WILLIAM ADAMS, a dour 9-year-old introvert unaware of his Tauron heritage, is Joseph Adams’ sole surviving child. Like John Connor, he will prove humanity’s savior in a universe ruled by murderous robots.
Thanks to “The Monkey King” for the heads up!!

Galactica FTW!
-
seriously, I loves me some BSG
-
that's a conjunction
-
And for some reason, the show just hasn't appealed to me. Maybe someday I'll give it a go on DVD.
-
I wish the crotch-rot upon people who post "First!"
And by that, I really mean some rancid, festering, unspeakable evil emanating from your dangly bits. -
if you've seen BSG, how could you not be sold on the idea of caprica?
-
As a father myself, the entire ZOE GRAYSTONE storyline, along w/ that of BEN STARK, has me very intrigued. I hope it pans out.
-
A 16 year old genius uploading herself into a hologram... Awfully Star Trekian. Tough sell for me, even as much as I adore Galactica.
-
Everywhere where you typed Adams? That's supposed to be Adama? Because it makes no sense at all otherwise.
-
And I meant Adams.
Friendo. -
so while i'm anxious to see this show, it's not exactly "exclusive" news.
-
Why go back that far, avoiding any cylon vs human action?
If they want a prequel, they should just make it about the first cylon war. Do it like the star-wars prequels only better. Are they just trying to cut corners on budget?
I don't get it. -
meh.
-
My comment was that if it wasn't a typo, it doesn't make any sense. This is the first I've heard of Moore changing the name of his lead. I just re-watched season 3, and--whatever his name is, Badger from Firefly---definitely calls Lee's grandfather 'Joe Adama,' not Adams.
I guess it'd kinda fit into the comment so many had at the time that Lee was playing John Adams in the Baltar courtroom scenes...I dunno.
I guess I'll just wait for some official word on this. -
... retard?
-
God, this sounds like "Cane" (with Jimmy Smits) with SciFi overtones instead of rum. (BTW, Cane == Falcon Crest)
Please just let BSG end.
After season 3 I am done.
Lets wrap it up. Release season 4 (and 4.5 or 5) on DVD and let me use PowerDVD to watch it at 1.5x speed.
I know the potential of BSG will never be fulfilled.
I know the show started swaying wildly in season 2 and went totally off the rails in season 3, but I would like closure. I did wait since the 80s for this.
I used to describe myself in relation to BSG as Charlie Brown with the football, but I am done now.
Let me know when Moore is done and I'll speed watch his craptastic ending.
F'ing All Along the Watchtower ... check please. -
So Commander Adama never has mentioned that his Dad was involved in the creation of the cylons.
Oh, wait, it was a secret.
Uh, okay. -

So they are the head Baltar and head Sixes we see on Galactica, I presume?
-
Sounds like a comic book name.
-
I think this whole thing not only looks to be a disaster, but will screw up the whole timeline for BSG especially if they decide to the a First Cylon war show. The original miniseries made it sound like the Cylons were very much like the Cylons of the original series and the whole one god thing were for the new Cylons that the 12 colonies were unaware of before they destroyed them.
Now they are going to make it that not only is the one true god being a human concept, but everything the Cylons believe is not a mystical concept that makes them better than the humans as they believe but the ravings of a cult leader from Caprica? And the Adama family are directly responsible for the Cylons?
Didn't the producers learn from the Star Wars prequels that it isn't good that in a big galaxy that all the major events happen to a handful of people even when it spans over decades? maybe Chewbacca will show up in Caprica too. -
I'm pretty sure!
-
... still sounds better than Amanda Hugginkiss.
-
maybe.
-
His name is Michael Baltar, but on "Caprica" he'll be referred to as "Michael Bolton".
-
.. you just don't get the brilliance of Battlestar Galactica.

Baltar is a little young to be going around creating Cylons
by hercules
Still, the Baltar, Tigh, Zarek and Lampkin families could be lurking about. If this goes to series.
-
Ambassador Zarek and his wife, Amanda Greystone. I get it now!
-
Adams Family. I think it'll stick. Good job.
-
I do not like the idea that Adama's family is so close in proximity to the creation of the Cylons. It's too easy and convenient. (And I'm already imagining that William changed his last name from "Adams" to "Adama" out of shame over the whole thing...)
-
Bill Adama is the 12th Cylon. You know it to be true.

Did you see the final scene of the Razor webisodes?
-
Yes, I did see them but my memory is a little fuzzy. What's up?
-
I was really hoping for an animated Saturday morning cartoon where we learn of the adventures of baby Tigh, little Will Adama, his cylon friend Cylie, "Laurie" Roslin and neighborhood bully Tommy Zarek.
First episode ("Pilot"): Galactica fans will appreciate the foreshadowing, but there is little depth to this adventure when Cylie hits his head and thinks he is a "bad robot." Voice of Aaron Douglas as Cylie, Adama, Laurie, Zarek. -
...are you watching a screener for the premier? If so, I hope it's a 5-star blow out!
-
There's a guy on the SciFi boards who does all these great illustrations of the Galactica crew as kids. I think he does Tigh as a baby. He gets the residuals for this one...
-
stay tuned!
-
I just finished re-watching the last 3 episodes of season III, and I don't think I can hold out for another 21 hours.

First Half of the Last Season to be Concluded in 2009

That is not cool.
-
If they're going to drag this out for another whole year or more, they damn sure better make it worth the wait!
-
"All Along the Watchtower" actually grows on you a bit the 2nd time around.
-
Ahhh Bliss...Still, Sci-Fi channel, your days are numbered.
-
So they started as Adams...does this mean that Adama is really a bastardization of a previous designation? In other words, is William Adama actually Adam-A? The first Cylon?
-
Haven't you seen any of the Flash Gordon episodes? Now THAT is quality television. Shit...I laughed so hard, milk shot out of my nose.
-
Awesome.
-
Herc was referring to the fact that in the first Cylon war, the one and only time Husker Adama flew in combat saw him encounter the experiments behind the creation of the first hybrid and the beginnings of the whole humanoid-Cylon line, as well as happening to be mere moments before the armistice was called (although thinking about it now, I guess the successful creation of the first hybrid and the 'cracking' of the tehe humanoid machine technology may actually be *why* the Cylons agreed to a peace deal, hadn't thought of that before), so coincidences already abound there.
-
i will like it.
-
she was a real bitch to Kara in the episode 'Maelstrom".
-
Was the Spacey-looking Cylon talking to Bill Adama about bringing Lee Adama out for the big ceremony.
-
he was from the poor planet, Aerilon. he said so himself.
-
I believed leoben when he told roslin that adama was a cylon. Adam-A. good one. we allready figured it out. the real adama dies with his mom and sister and the 9-year old kid in the show is his cylon model who grows up never knowing he was a cylon. that would explain why he can talk to his dead wife like balta

-
Have we learned NOTHING from the PT?
-
so what does that have to do with what mrnicegaius was talking about with the adamas being involved with the creation of the cylons?
-
or so i have read.
-
Perhaps somewhere along the line, before Romo Lampkin, Joe Adams changed his name to Joe Adama. We don't know.
Don't you remember the animosity that Admiral Adama showed towards the memory of his father? He certainly didn't very well of him to Lee at the end of season 3. Mad about his father's involvement in the creation of the cylons perhaps? I'm interested in seeing this mini-series... though it sounds like some boring farscape shit and won't be nearly as well done as bsg has been to this point. -
It actually wouldn't break continuity if Adama is the final Cylon. The suggestion thus far is that the Final Five have been living and working in the Colonies for their entire lives--they even believed they were human. Maybe that's what so completely sets them apart from the other models. So if they were (to their own knowledge) fully human, then for all intents and purposes, the fleet has had reason to believe there were no skin-jobs prior to the war. They'd just be wrong.
Adam-A--I really hope it's not that simple. -
if adama wanted to change his name, its as easy as lookin at a computer keyboard. the A is right next to the S....think of all the other letters nearby that coulda made it sound real stupid....adamZ, adamQ, adamE, ..lol
-
will there be lions or daggits in the family portrait?
-
I have plenty of doubts about Season 4 and this Caprica thing.
-
I hope you're wrong!
-
Just a hunch, but going by the fact that the lyrics to the Adama family theme ‘wander my friends’ is in Irish (Gaelic), the name change might by the equivalent of how many Irish people (and people from other cultures) Anglicised their names to hide their heritage when they moved to America
-
It all started here:
http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/detail/index.jsp?uuid=e1304fb7-b29d-4d3e-9873-d2230fcfc998
It's an April Fool's Day joke, nothing more. You can't possibly all be this gullible. -
I've not seen any proof that this is a joke. Another copy of the casting call is at the following site: http://tinyurl.com/3zjvfa where the name change of Adams/Adama is explained. If you have access to that same casting call sheet, Herc, why didn't you just tell us that an explanation is provided. And why didn't you source your story?
-
...I'll check it out. And yeah, I have to wonder why AICN pretended this was exclusive when E! Online had posted the info two days earlier.
-
some of the people that "write" the articles, don't quite understand the big words such, i.e. exclusive, and journalistic integrity
-
...journalistic integrity and this site have never been on the same site...or writing ability...or good website design...great screen-name, by the way. I'm a big fan of the L. Neil Smith books.
-
..."on the same planet," not "on the same site."
-
This description leads me to believe that, but then why would the Adamas make friends with the family of the girl that killed their own? Is it supposed to be some kind of big revelation?
-
like the other guy said, Razor sucked and most of S3 was lame...
Ron Moore's one saving grace - he knew when to call it quits and get out before this turned into the same kinda retarded bullshit Trek turned into -
Even though I love what the writers have done so far with Galactica proper, I haven't been thrilled about the idea of Caprica, but now I think it sounds AWESOME. Sounds like we learn a lot more about the nuances of their society from the tribalism alluded to in Season 3 w/ the Sagitaron episode & Baltar's admission of losing his accent. Plus it sounds like we get deeper into the religious ideas. I love this idea about closet monotheists. Here's to hoping all the gods in Galactica turn out to be false ones.
-
... are we sure the Colonials use QWERTY?
-
Just so you know, the character of Tamara Adams has NOT been cast by Candace Bailey becuase I am going in for an audition for the role of Tamara in a few days. Stop posting false information
