Images From "The Enterprise Incident" - This Weekend's STAR TREK REMASTERED!!

Merrick here...

...with some shots from this weekend's installment of STAR TREK REMASTERED.

It's "The Enterprise Incident", in which Kirk & Spock have a spat because Enterprise is captured by a Romulan fleet.

The original iteration of this episode always confused me when I was a kid because the "Romulan" ships looked just like the "Klingon" ships we'd seen previously, and not like the ROMULAN ships we'd seen before.

Sure, Spock says something here about the Romulans using Klingon design in this episode...but...damn it...I wanted to see the Warbird stencil that the Romulans slapped on the bottom of their ships & it just wasn't there.

The Remastered iteration corrects this shortcoming. The (Klingon-design) Romulan cruisers now sport the Romulan Warbird insignia on their underside (what's the technical term for a ship's underside?). One of the three cruisers that surrounds Enterprise has been replaced with a Romulan ship of traditional design.

Also in this episode: Kirk & the gang swipe a Romulan cloaking device and plug it into Enterprise, which is then rendered "invisible" like Romulan ships. If I recall correctly, this intriguing thread was never touched on again. Guess it would've leveled the playing field too much if Enterprise had the same capabilities as her enemies.

Here are some "before and after" shots...

HERE's a newly updated list of stations carrying the next wave of REMASTERED episodes.

PLEASE NOTE that alterations may be made to this list; some stations & airtimes could change altogether. So, if you've been watching the Remasters (or wanting to find them), be sure to check for changes in your area.

If you can't find a station near you, they can also be downloaded via iTunes and XBOX Live (where an increasing number of episodes are available in High Definition - the series is not shown in HD by many broadcasters).

    Cloak...

    by blindogre

The trade-off for a cloaking device is that it cannot be used at the same time as deflector shields, a weakness that could often be exploited by tracking the cloaked ship by unconventional means (exhaust, warp signature, etc.).

It would also make fairly boring exterior shots... nothing but starscapes... unless they did a weird LOTR style ethereal plane view... but that would just be too goofy :)

Give me the original any time. This is worse than Lucas fixing Solo vs Greedo.

    cloaking technology

    by slkboxrman

im not sure if it was ever referenced in the original series but the federation signed a treaty stating they would never use cloaking technology, now why they would sign a treaty like that , only god knows...but the romulans did let them borrow a cloaking device on DS9 when sisko brought the defiant back to the station to fight the dominion

cloaking device in a TNG episode. They signed the Treaty of Algeron.According to the Star Trek Wiki (Memory Alpha), Gene Roddenberry didn't like the ideas of the Federation "heroes" using a cloaking device to "sneak around."

This could never have happened. Something conveniently overlooked in Enterprise.

    Federation ships not cloaking...

    by antibody

If I remember correctly, at some point in TNG they explain that the reason why Federation ships don't cloak is because of a treaty -- not because of technological limitations. In fact, didn't the most recent ship in the Series Finale have cloaking capabilities?

    the word is "HULL"

A lot of "experts" around here.

    by excommunicated

Problem is they are all wrong.

Hull = the metal skin of the ship
Dorsal Surface = "Top" of the ship
Ventral Surface = "Bottom" of the ship

A starship has no "keel" - it would only be used as a figure of speech.
