Ride The PINEAPPLE EXPRESS!! All Hail Gary Cole!!

Published at:  Apr 03, 2008 9:56:37 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Yahoo has posted a trailer for PINEAPPLE EXPRESS in all kinds of glorious QuickTime (notably HD).

We've received boatloads of consistently good reviews for this film...too many to link out to, actually. Also, several trusted sources (whose reviews have not appeared on this site) say this movie is funny, cool, and "the real thing".

James Franco looks awesome here. I wouldn't have pictured him in this kind of role, but it makes total sense for him. The super-mega awesome Gary Cole (not to be confused with Gary Coleman, the black kid from DIFF'RENT STROKES) pretty much rocks in anything. Not that Gary ColeMAN didn't rock in his own way...well, maybe he didn't.

Cole was a better Mike Brady than the original Mike Brady. He would've been a kick-ass spaceship captain in CRUSADE if the show around him hadn't sucked donkey balls. Never saw him as the Vice President in WEST WING, but "Cole For President" sounds fine by me.

This one's written by Evan Goldberg and David Gordon Green (DA ALI G SHOW, SUPERBAD).

Pull Gary's trigger (ahem) to see the trailer!

this crew's movies are soooo much better than the Will Farell / Vince Vaugn / Owen Wilson triumvirate of a few years ago. I am so glad someone has removed them from the top of the very short list of people who make comedies.

I especially enjoy the MIA music towards the end. Pretty fitting. This looks like it might give Hot Fuzz a run for its money in action comedy bracket (and I do love that movie)... And this is from someone who is wary of the Apatowian hordes.

Several credits are a bit off Merrick

    by hegele

Not to be a dick but this is written by Evan Goldberg and SETH ROGEN. David Gordon Green is directing, not writing, and his credits include the fantastic All The Real Girls, George Washington and Undertow, not Da Ali G Show and Superbad (which are Goldberg's)

anyway, this looks amazing, can't wait!

Gary Cole can shine in whatever role he's given. I remember him from that miniseries about Jeffrey McDonald, the guy who blamed the Manson family for killing his wife. He even shined in a crapfest like I Spy as the Banderas-type agent.

Can't believe we are only going to get 5 months of reviews for this! Man why cut it so short? We at least had a good 12 months of reviews for Superbad. And about 2 years of reviews for Knocked up? Well let just get them reviews rolling! Can't wait to not hear a single bad word about this!

I think its funny how both Gary Cole and Stephen Root seem to be in everything these days while Mike Juge couldn't even get his second movie into more then 4 theaters and last I heard no one still knows who Ron Livingston is. Wonder why Ajay Naidu hasn't gotten any Family Guy/American Dad time? He has a very funny voice.

    by freakemovie

This is almost identical to the red-band trailer released last month. And actually, this exact trailer's at least two weeks old. And as has been previously mentioned, you screwed up the credits. Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen wrote it. David Gordon Green is an acclaimed indie director who hasn't really done anything like this before, but from the look of it, it looks like it works in a BIG way. But hey man...whatever. This looks unique and hilarious, and that song is utterly perfect.

Everything about this trailer is solid gold and the red-band trailer is platinum.

eat out our girlfriends and kick us in the balls to quote Neil Cumptson. Comedy wise we have this which WILL be genius and hilarious (David Gordon Green is amazing, All the Real Girls blew me away) plus Tropic Thunder and Step Brothers both of which look hilarious, then we have some superheroes (TDK is a sure thing, Iron Man looks unreal and Hulk and i'm not sold on but it should be a good time and Norton's involvement moves it up a few pegs) It needs to be summer NOW

Come on now: "James Franco looks awesome here. I wouldn't have pictured him in this kind of role, but it makes total sense for him." Have you EVER watched Freaks and Geeks, this is his character kinda nearly 10 years later! Do you're homework and watch the best show to get axed after one season. Proof behind that statement, half the dudes in Freaks and Geeks are bum-rushing the comedy silver screen with Judd Apatow.

Anyone know? Kind of different and catchy I think. Maybe it's just because I've watched the preview like five times because it's great. By the way, the trailer for Step Brothers is up on apple's website too and it's pretty great as well.

That song is great, and with your recommendation and the trailer alone I am seriously looking forward to this one. I always thought Franco was great, even in the made for TNT James Dean story. Just watching him crack up at The Jeffersons (or Good Times, whatever that was) and getting his foot caught in the cop car windshield had me rolling! Can't wait for this one.

    Franco was horrendous in Flyboys

    by badmrwonka

and in Spiderman...but I admit he can be funny as hell. I just think he's terrible when he's trying to be serious. he always talks like you do when you're trying to talk without throwing up. all clenched and whatnot.this does look amazing however, it will be seen. I think this has potential for some huge moolah...great formula, great trailer, great built in fanbase, very simple plot. I think Dewey Cox was just a little too weird for people, but this one is going to throw a strike right up the middle.
