Almodovar and Iglesia regular Carmen Maura swaps places with Bardem in Coppola's TETRO!!

Published at:  Apr 03, 2008 4:46:23 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This is a weird bit of recasting. Originally Javier Bardem was to star in Francis Ford Coppola's next flick, TETRO, but his schedule ended up not working out. Instead of just recasting, Coppola got to thinking about the character and decided to rewrite it to change the sex of the lead and has now cast Carmen Maura.

Fans of Alex de la Iglesia's work will remember her from LA COMMUNIDAD and 800 BALAS and fans of Pedro Almodovar's will remember her from VOLVER.

I don't know much about the story, but the Hollywood Reporter says this:

Maura will play a literary critic and mentor to Tetro, whose younger brother (Alden Ehrenreich) searches for him in Argentinia's capital city.

Replacing a hot property Oscar Winner actor with someone who I personally don't have the foggiest about, well who knows how it will work out? Though for the film's success's sake, the replacement of 'big name' with 'who?' does give me doubts and is a questionable dissapointment to me. Then again, I haven't a clue what I'm talking about. Though I must say, since Coppola can be such an unpredictable fuckwit at times like replacing Winona Ryder with Sophia Coppola in Godfather 3, so this recent news of not just recasting but reSEXING the lead does give me the shakes. I mean, with all the previous Coppola 'I destroy every movie I make, deliberately' (tm) fahk ups, I wouldn't even trust him if he casted ELLEN!!!! Page.

I hope to read any news about an upcoming project or something. But Carmen Maura in a Coppola movie is interesting enough anyway. :)

She is a good writer. I like her works. It is said she is dating friends on a millionaire dating site called meetingwealthy.com. Her sexy photos and profile are found there.

Still waiting for de la Iglesia's big break...

    by king_knut

He's had a rough ride making headway outside of Europe. Even in the UK, most people don't have a Scooby who he is. From what I've seen of The Oxford Murders, the language barrier has impeded his characteristic sense of humour somewhat, which is a great shame.

In a word: No. One of my mates described it best: "It's like soemthing a retard carved out of white gold." Technically the film is brilliant, with top notch cinemaography, costumes, sound editing etc, but narrative-wise the movie is a total disaster.
