Brief Set report from A TRAVESTY

Published at:  May 17, 1999 11:25:33 AM CDT

Ya know... I love reports like this. A snapshot of a film set that we don't really know anything about. But, for the 'spy', this was an exciting brush with the fabulous world of filmdom. We don't get a terrible amount of knowledge about the movie... but it is a sip. A bit like smelling the cork of a freshly opened bottle of wine. We get a whiff, but we still don't know what it tastes like. So.... Let it be known that a movie called A TRAVESTY exists, that William H Macy appears in a cab whilst it drives in the rain. Heh heh heh... Are they going to a hospital? A symphony? A restaurant? An enticing mystery eh?

I went to see Rushmore at a tiny little theatre on the corner of Yonge and
Carlton in downtown Toronto last Friday night. On my way out of the film,
around 11:30 pm, I saw a yellow NYC taxi sitting on a trailer with a film
crew surrounding it. There were about 30-40 spectators standing around, and
one of them told me that the film being shot was called "A Travesty," and
that William H. Macy was in the back of the cab. I stuck around for about
twenty minutes as they filmed inside the car with simulated rain effects
being provided by a guy with a hose. When they were done the trailer
pulled the cab away, and I caught a brief glimpse of Macy in the back seat
with an attractive female. Unfortunately, no one seemed to know who she
was, and no one could tell me anything else about the film.

The Supreme Cow.

Yeah, I'm first. Since this article has virtually nothing to report, I, in turn, have nothing else to say.

    Donald Westlake's "A Travesty"

    by dr. fell

This movie is most likely based on a novella of the same name by much-filmed crime writer Donald Westlake (known as Richard Stark to you Point Blank/Payback fans). The story is a black comic murder mystery/parody about a film critic who accidentally kills his girlfriend and has various adventures while trying to cover up his crime. Those interested can find the story in Westlake's book "Enough!"
